Located about a 3-minute walk from Shinjuku Gyoenmae Station on the Marunouchi Line, this popular restaurant has been listed in the top 100 on Tabelog and has also been featured in the Michelin Guide Japan. I visited this place for a post-meal carb intake after finishing a meal nearby. It was around 9:30 PM on a weekday, and the restaurant was full with a wait of one group. It seems to always be busy, so it's recommended to visit with some extra time. On this day, I had: - Kake Udon - Squid Tempura After drinking too many cold drinks at the first restaurant, I felt a bit cold, so I ordered warm udon. The udon soup was not too soy sauce-based but more focused on the flavor of the dashi, making it gentle even after the meal. The noodles were medium thick and chewy. A sign in the restroom mentioned their commitment to making udon fresh and not pre-cooking it, which I understood. The tempura was crispy and freshly fried. The squid was cooked just right, not too tough. There were also snack-like menu items, and the restaurant had a wide selection of sake, so it seems like many people enjoy a light drink with udon as a finish. There were also counter seats, making it convenient for solo diners.

I visited before noon at around 12 o'clock. This place is a popular udon shop where there are always people waiting outside, but luckily I was able to go in without waiting just before the lunch peak... very lucky (≧∀≦). I have a slight fever due to the side effects of yesterday's COVID vaccine shot and muscle soreness from the gym. I wanted to take a day off, but my body is surprisingly strong and I don't easily get sick... I'm really serious about it~ lol There was a staff member at work who was sneezing suddenly... It has suddenly become cooler, so please take care of your health. So, I ordered a warm and gentle udon ♡ with 3 pieces of crispy fried tofu and a soft-boiled egg tempura for 1000 yen. *100 yen off for half portion of noodles. The photo is bad... I couldn't take a good picture of the soft-boiled egg either, but the crispy outer layer and runny inside are delicious whether dipped in the broth or not. The ginger and tempura crumbs are a nice touch. The noodles didn't have a strong texture, but they were delicious and blended well with the broth~ This might be my first time having udon at Gyoen ♡ Thank you for the meal♪

Visited around 7 pm on the weekend. It was full, so we waited outside for about 5 minutes before getting a table. I knew it was a popular spot, so I was lucky to get in! It was our second stop of the night, so we started with some appetizers and bottled beer. The "eel tempura" was thick and chewy, very delicious. The "blowfish roe pickles" were extremely salty! Sipping on sake and shochu on the rocks was perfect! The "zaru udon" was smooth and chewy, very tasty. We enjoyed drinks and appetizers first, then finished with udon. It's a wonderful place to dine.

The last two times I had the large 600g portion, so this time I decided to go for the special size. It's so amazing to be able to eat unlimited delicious udon. It feels much lighter than the 900g serving of tsukemen. Maybe it's because udon has a higher water content. The units used to describe portion sizes vary from restaurant to restaurant, making it hard to grasp. As always, the udon and tempura are delicious. The udon bowl is so big that sometimes the chopsticks interfere with the edge of the bowl, so I think zaru udon is easier to eat. I always struggle with how much sauce to pour over the bukkake udon at first. I always order the Man'nenji Togarashi Tempura, but I've only had it once. It's so delicious, so definitely give it a try. I hope it's available next time too.

This restaurant is popular for its cold udon noodles with toppings such as sudachi (Japanese citrus), green onions, squid legs tempura, scallop tempura, and pickled fugu (blowfish) ovaries. The turnover is high, so even though there is usually a line, you won't have to wait long. Many foreign visitors come here. The cold noodles with tsuyu (dipping sauce) and sudachi are a heavenly combination. I love the cold noodles, especially in the summer. They also have a great selection of side dishes and delicacies. Eating fugu ovaries can be a bit nerve-wracking, even though they are farmed and safe to eat. Overall, it was a delicious meal!

I visited around 3 pm on a national holiday! We were able to enter smoothly with only one group waiting in line. The noodles and tempura were high quality, and it was clear why this place is so popular. I ordered the cold noodles with extra toppings, and I finished it all easily. Men might find the regular portion size a bit small and may want to order a larger size. I would like to visit again and try other menu items.

The food was delicious, but considering the waiting time and other factors, I honestly feel like I could go to another restaurant. The vegetable tempura was good, but the shiso leaf didn't stand out much due to the batter, which was a bit disappointing. The udon noodles were smooth and good.

Parent-child tempura, chicken tempura x3, soft-boiled egg tempura x1, and udon noodles with a texture as soft as an angel's upper arm. I poured the separate broth over the udon noodles because it was a tempura dish. The correct way to eat it is unknown. The udon noodles have a good texture with just the right amount of firmness. It's best to chew well before swallowing. You can taste the sweetness of the wheat firmly. The tempura is crispy and the meat is tender and juicy. The half-boiled egg is soft and gooey, creating a river of yolk on top of the udon noodles. The broth doesn't have a clear standard of good or bad, but it tastes delicious. I arrived at the restaurant around noon and was able to get a ticket for the 12:30-13:00 seating. It's a popular place, so I was worried about the crowds on a Sunday, but surprisingly I was able to enter at a normal time. There is a café near the restaurant where you can pass the time. It's a perfect setup. When it's time, line up in front of the restaurant and place your order before entering. It can get a bit hectic, so it's best to look at the menu beforehand. It seems nice to have the tempura with a drink, but with the waiting line outside, there's no time for leisure. Someday, someday I want to go for a drink...

・Visited right at the opening time on Saturday night, entered on the 9th turn ・Friendly and pleasant customer service from the staff ・The portion size of the small dishes is not too large, so solo diners can feel at ease ・The udon noodles have a smooth and elegant texture, so they may not be suitable for those who prefer a firmer texture, but even when eaten with salt, the wheat flavor is still enjoyable

This is my second time this month (lol). I had delicious udon and tempura. I had salted chicken udon, grated yam and wasabi set, and oyster tempura. I was able to get a large serving of udon for an extra 150 yen. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also nice. You can pay with PayPay.

I had delicious udon and tempura. I had tempura udon with crispy batter which was really tasty. The udon itself was also delicious. I also ordered separate fried squid legs which were also very tasty.

I visited during lunchtime on a regular day. I was able to be seated right away since it was around 11:40. After 12 o'clock, there seemed to be a line forming outside the restaurant. I ordered summer vegetable tempura and a large portion of bukkake udon. The tempura was crispy and went well with the curry salt. The udon had a good chewiness and was easy to eat. I think it's perfect for hot days. The atmosphere was stylish, so I recommend it for when you want to have a quick and affordable lunch with friends.

I started lining up at 11:20 on Sunday afternoon and was already 4 groups behind. The system was to take orders while waiting in line, and I entered the store as soon as it opened. It was very hot while waiting in line, so I was grateful for the hand fan placed on the seat. I ordered the "tempura udon" cold noodles. It was brought to me in about 5 minutes. The udon had a good texture and was perfect for the hot weather. The tempura was freshly fried and delicious. I thought the portion was large for a woman, but I finished it all in no time.

[Visit Date] September 9, 2023 (Saturday) 6:41 PM [Crowdedness] - Wait time: 30 minutes - Service time: 10 minutes [Taste] Absolutely delicious. The noodles are silky and moist. The tempura is crispy and equally refined as the udon. [Atmosphere] It's a bit crowded, but you don't feel rushed. It's a place to enjoy the taste. [Service] Good. They provide hospitality with English support, making it foreigner-friendly. [Cost Performance] Very affordable. With this taste and portion size, it's high cost performance. [Order] - Tempura Udon: 1,450 yen - Large portion: 100 yen - Smelt tempura: 250 yen It's worth waiting in line for this famous restaurant. Among the top 100 udon shops, this place offers refined udon.

I entered the restaurant a little after it opened on the day of the typhoon, and it was already crowded, with only a few seats left before it was full. This time, I had the mentaiko kamatama udon. The noodles were chewy and very delicious. The interior of the restaurant was clean and cozy, so I would like to visit again.

I received the Mentaiko Kamatama. The combination of dashi shoyu, mentaiko, and egg with chewy noodles was exquisite. It was on a different level compared to other restaurants' Mentaiko Kamatama, with a refined taste that I savored with each bite. I felt happy (lol). Be careful not to add too much dashi shoyu. It's recommended to visit around 11:30-11:45, right after opening, to avoid long lines! As I looked at the menu after the meal, I decided to try the Summer Vegetable Plate next time, while glancing around. Cards are not accepted, but PayPay is available.

Sometimes I thought, "Let's grab a meal in Shinjuku!" and got off the train. It was around 5 p.m. and I wandered around for about 30 minutes looking for a restaurant. I ended up at Mantan Jiro, but then I saw Jinroku Udon nearby and hesitated. Ultimately, I should have stuck with Mantan Jiro. I ordered the parent and child tempura udon (cold). Compared to chain restaurants, the flavor and texture of the noodles were different, but I didn't feel a significant difference. The chicken tempura was delicious, but the egg tempura was overcooked (unlike my friend's, which was perfectly runny). If it costs over 1,000 yen per person, I'd say Hanamaru Udon is much tastier. Lately, I've been disappointed by many restaurants. Are we being swayed too much by popularity and Instagram information, causing everyone's senses to go haywire?

I felt like having udon after a long time and debated between going to Mandajiro nearby. However, I decided to visit this place for the first time. My honest impression is that it's just regular udon that you can get anywhere. I ordered the Kama Tamago Udon, but the yolk was already broken. I prefer to break it myself, so I was a little disappointed. The noodles were not particularly firm, more like the level of Tsurutontan. It's easy to eat, which is nice. However, the tempura seemed like it wasn't drained properly as the paper on the plate was soaked. The Fried Sardine with Plum and Shiso was probably cooked and transferred directly to the plate, making it soggy and heavy. It wasn't inedible, but I expected better. The Egg Tempura was not as gooey as my friend's, but mine looked like the photo. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant on a regular night. When I arrived before opening, there were overseas tourists lining up. It's popular! Based on my previous experience, I ordered a small drink set and seasonal tempura. The tempura of whiting and sardine was delicious! Freshly fried is so tasty! I ordered vegetable tempura udon with soy sauce. Soy sauce was the perfect choice! The deliciousness of the noodles stands out and it's the best! There are various options like kake, bukkake, zaru, but please try soy sauce! Vegetable tempura is delicious, but it's best to order something else as well. I think chicken tempura is the best choice! I will come back again!

I visited Kirimugiya Jinroku for the first time. The location is great, just a few minutes' walk from Shinjuku Gyoen Station, and the storefront looks lovely, increasing expectations even before entering. I went just before the lunch opening time on a weekday, and it quickly became full right after opening. It seems to be a very popular restaurant. This is because it has been selected as one of the top 100 udon restaurants on Tabelog in 2019, 2020, and 2022, and one of only two udon restaurants in Tokyo selected for the 2022 Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand. It is also ranked 2nd in the "Best Tempura Udon Restaurants in Tokyo" on SARAH. The lunchtime on weekends seems to have long lines. I ordered the parent and child chikuwa tempura bukkake udon. The parent and child kashiwa tempura was soft, and the half-cooked egg was just right, so I mixed the yolk with the udon halfway through eating. The chikuwa tempura was a bit thin and lacked elasticity, which was a bit disappointing for chikuwa. The bukkake udon was not ice-cold, not too firm, but had a moderate firmness and was smooth. The wheat flavor was sufficient, and it was delicious even with just the jelly and bonito flakes on the udon. The bonito flakes seemed freshly grated, and the aroma spread in my mouth. I enjoyed adding a little bit of broth, tasting the tempura, then mixing in the yolk, and finally sprinkling plenty of white sesame seeds on the table and mixing well. In the process of eating like that, the smooth udon went down my throat quickly, and before I knew it, I had finished it. It truly lives up to being a popular udon restaurant.
