East Ginza Station is about a 3-minute walk away. It's located at the intersection behind the Kabuki-za theater. Today, we arrived a bit late but I wanted to share the deliciousness of this place with my family, so we came here. It's been a year since our last visit, but it's still a very popular restaurant! It was Sunday, 13:44, and there were 17 groups signed on the waiting list board, so it seemed like there would be a wait of over 30 people. It was a bit intimidating, but we didn't back down and signed up too! We thought we would have to wait for about an hour, so we enjoyed shopping at Matsuya and Kabuki-za until 14:50 when we were finally able to enter. Our order for today was the "Oni Set Meal" for 1450 yen, which includes Oni-kama (a special pot) and a small bowl. You can choose from 3 different small bowls (Small Ten-don, Joushuu Chicken Rice Small Bowl, or Nozawa Pickled Vegetables and Salmon Roe Small Bowl). You can also choose a free large serving of Himokawa. We also ordered the "Zaru Ni-mi" for 950 yen, which comes with two different dipping sauces (soy sauce and sesame sauce). The udon at Hanayama Udon is truly delicious! The Oni-kama with its sweet soy sauce and flavorful pork enhances the taste of the noodles. We started by tasting the noodles on their own to savor the sweetness of the wheat. Then we mixed the ingredients and broth to enjoy the chewy noodles and rich flavor. Finally, we added freshly grated wasabi for a refreshing twist. It was delicious no matter how we ate it. In between bites, we enjoyed the Nozawa pickled vegetables and the Joushuu Chicken on the small bowl, and refreshed our palates with the black soybean tea served at the beginning. The Zaru Ni-mi was also great. It paired perfectly with the sesame sauce. If you want to purely enjoy the noodles, you might prefer the Zaru, but I personally love the Oni-kama. There were also some unique items on the menu that I would like to try next time. As a souvenir, we bought the following items upon my wife's request: - Home Support Set for 1500 yen - Oni Himokawa Two-Flavor Set for 1512 yen This restaurant only has locations in Gunma's Takasaki, Ikaho, and Ginza. They also offer online shopping, but I recommend enjoying the noodles at the Ginza location. We had a satisfying meal today. Thank you for the delicious food!

Oni Gozen that we had at Hanayama Udon Ginza 5th Generation Store 1. Hanayama Udon is a long-established udon restaurant founded in 1894 in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture. They are known for their signature dish, the Oni Himogawa, which is a wide udon noodle developed in the Taisho era. As of May 2023, they have stores in Gunma and Tokyo. The store in Haneda Airport Garden, which opened in January 2023, has also been a popular topic. 2. Directions, exterior, queue situation, and business hours of Hanayama Udon Ginza 5th Generation Store Address: 3-14-13 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0061 Located a 3-minute walk from Higashi-Ginza Station (behind Kabuki-za) The exterior of the 5th Generation Hanayama Udon Ginza store and the long queue On a weekday at 1:30 PM, there was a long line in front of the store, with about 30 people. We waited for 90 minutes to enter and 100 minutes to eat. Surprisingly, there were mostly Chinese people in line, even though group tours from mainland China were not yet allowed due to COVID-19. 3. Menu and atmosphere of Hanayama Udon Ginza 5th Generation Store The popular menu item is the Oni Kamado (1,200 yen), which comes with pork, hot spring egg, green onions, and fish cake. The most popular dish is the Oni Gozen (Oni Kamado + a choice of small bowl for 1,890 yen). I chose the small bowl with tempura. The store has a counter seat with a decent space and a luxurious atmosphere. They served strong barley tea and a generous portion of delicious pickled vegetables. 4. Oni Gozen we had at Hanayama Udon Ginza 5th Generation Store The tanuki bowl is cute. The Oni Gozen at the 5th Generation Hanayama Udon Ginza store. It was Saturday and the restaurant opened at 11 am, so I thought I would arrive a little early, but when I got there it was 10:55. There was a long line, but the location of the restaurant was easy to find because of it. I didn't know how long the wait would be, but I decided to line up anyway. I think I ended up waiting for about 2 hours. Most of the customers waiting were tourists, mainly from Asian countries. Once inside the restaurant, after placing my order, the food came out pretty quickly. I ordered two types of cold udon noodles, one with soy sauce and the other with sesame sauce, both served with toppings. I also ordered the "Oni-kama," which they claimed had won three awards. The shiitake mushroom tempura looked appealing, so I ordered that as well. They use shiitake mushrooms with a high water content to make the tempura, which resulted in a very crispy and delicious dish. Everything was tasty, but waiting for 2 hours was quite a challenge... Be prepared for that. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the store right at 11:00, but was disappointed to see a long line already formed. I underestimated the weekday and bad weather, thinking it wouldn't be too crowded. After waiting for an hour, I finally entered the store and was comforted by the served buckwheat tea. I decided to order the popular "Oni Himokawa" dish, which includes a pot of noodles and a side of crispy shiitake mushroom tempura. The tempura was surprisingly light and crunchy, with a texture I had never experienced before. It came with salt, grated radish, and ginger on the side, but I preferred the salt. The chilled noodles were smooth and refreshing, with a good mouthfeel. The wide, thin noodles wrapped around the toppings like meat and onsen egg were delicious. The broth was flavorful and I wanted to drink it all up. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal. There was a guide on how to eat "Oni Himokawa" included with the dish. I saw a customer at the next table enjoying the curry version of the dish, which looked very appetizing. I will definitely try the curry version next time!

You should definitely line up to eat at Onihimokawa, one of the top restaurants in Gunma! I ordered the menu that has won first place three years in a row at the Onikama Competition. It includes Onihimokawa noodles, locally sourced wheat pork, seasoned egg, and green onions. The chicken broth Antarctic curry dip for the noodles is also delicious. The noodles are outstanding - smooth, chewy, and surprisingly delicious! I will definitely be coming back for more!

I started lining up 10 minutes before the store opened and waited for over 2 hours. The Onihimo Kawa Udon was chewy and had a delicious taste that I had never experienced before. However, even though I opted for the free extra-large portion, the regular size would have been enough as I got really full. I was so full that I didn't need dinner afterwards. It might be best to avoid the extra-large portion unless you really want to eat a lot. It was quite a long wait, so it might be difficult to revisit, but if I have the chance, I would like to eat it again.

I had the cold pasta dish for 1,580 yen and it was delicious. This restaurant is known for having long lines, but if you go near closing time at 3:00 PM, you might be able to get in without waiting. It's hard to say if 3:00 PM is considered lunchtime, but it's more practical than waiting for 2 hours from 1:00 PM.

"Himokawa Udon" is a famous and popular udon restaurant in Gunma, known for its wide and flat noodles. Even on a rainy day after 5 pm, the line was long with mostly foreigners, and I ended up waiting for an hour and a half. I ordered the "Oni-kama Men" large size for 1300 yen. The noodles were smooth and wide, with a strong and delicious flavor. The noodles were so good that even with the large size, I felt like I wanted more length to slurp. Himokawa Udon is easy to eat and delicious, so I recommend getting the large size. It was interesting to see so many foreigners enjoying the food. Everyone was eating slowly and enjoying their meal. Thank you for the delicious meal."

I really wanted to go to Hanayama Udon! I lined up for a record 1.5 hours, but it was worth it because the service was excellent! I usually don't expect good service in Tokyo, but here they explained everything with a smile, answered all my questions, and made me feel warm and fuzzy inside! The Oni-kama (demon pot) was beautiful, and the udon that won the Udon Championship three years in a row was amazing! The wide noodles, about 5cm in width, had a rich wheat aroma, a sweet and slightly bold flavor, and were delicious. Even the wasabi went well with it. It was the best! I'm ready to line up for 1.5 hours again for my next visit!

Fifth Generation Hanayama Udon Address: 3-14-13 Ginza, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo (inside Kabukiza) ⏰ Business hours: Monday to Friday 11:00 - 16:00, 18:00 - 22:00 Saturday, Sunday 11:00 - 16:00 Hanayama Udon is a udon restaurant from Gunma Prefecture. It is a fifth-generation udon shop with branches in Gunma, Haneda, Nihonbashi, and Ginza. The owner of Hanayama Udon insists on using Gunma-produced wheat and domestic ingredients for making noodles. Not only the ingredients, but there is also a focus on the dough. After mixing wheat flour, salt, water, etc., it is kneaded over 300 times in a large bag until it becomes elastic, then left to rest overnight to achieve a soft texture like a baby's skin. The next day, the dough is hand-kneaded and cut to a certain thickness for serving.

I was prepared to wait in line, but I didn't expect to wait this long. I arrived at the opening time and waited for about an hour and a half. There were many foreign visitors. The udon was delicious. It was even better than I had imagined, and the rice bowl was also tasty. I felt satisfied that it was worth the wait, but it was scorching hot and I felt like I used a lot of energy even after eating. After eating, I went shopping in Ginza and on the way back, I started to feel like going home earlier. If I could have this delicious udon without waiting in line, I would go there every week.

On August 23, 2023, at 11:20 a.m., I visited the 5th generation Hanayama Udon Ginza store, which is about a 10-minute walk from Yurakucho Station. When I arrived at 11:20 a.m., there was a line of about 20 people, and I had to wait for about 1 hour and 20 minutes before being seated. I ordered their specialty dish, the "Oni-kama" for 1,200 yen. The eating instructions suggested first trying the noodles as they are, then mixing everything together, and finally adding wasabi before eating. As a beginner, I followed these instructions and found the udon to be surprisingly delicious! Despite its fancy appearance, the flavor was well-balanced and the combination of meat and egg yolk created a sophisticated taste similar to a sukiyaki bowl, which paired perfectly with the udon. The wasabi added later on wasn't too spicy, so I think it's safe to add all of it at once!

After work, I took a leisurely walk and stumbled upon a long line. I ended up standing there for 90 minutes, watching a drama on my phone. I got hungry, so I decided to try Gunma's specialty mochi. It had a unique dry texture, but it was delicious. I ordered the Kabuki meal, only available for dinner. I was quite satisfied with the meal! I had expected to be disappointed after waiting for so long, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! The thickest noodle udon was definitely the most delicious. I also want to try the hot version. By the way, there was news about the first wave of a Chinese travel group arriving at Kansai Airport, but it seemed like everyone around me was Chinese. I wonder what will happen next week! (laughs)

Because it was the Bon Festival, I was mentally prepared, but still, I waited for about 1.5 hours for Splash Thunder Mountain at Disneyland. We barely made it in as the second group from the cutoff, and while waiting for the Oni Rope Udon, we snacked on miso dengaku (you can order one stick at a time ❤️) and grilled manju. Just as we finished eating, the awaited udon arrived. As expected, it was delicious like kishimen, and you can enjoy two types of flavors - sesame sauce and regular noodle soup. The tanuki bowl was even more delicious than expected, and the meat in it was also tasty. The small bowl of tempura and the sticky bowl with pickled vegetables, salmon roe, and seaweed were so good that we couldn't stop eating. They also have a carbonara dish available only at night, so I decided to revisit at night next time. By the way, the miso dengaku is made with konjac, so there isn't much difference in taste from regular miso dengaku, but it has a gentle seasoning. As for the manju, it felt like eating bread with sweet miso sauce. 😂

The restaurant is located in Ginza, a few minutes walk from Higashi-Ginza Station. People start lining up around 11am, and there was a wait of about 2 hours and 20 minutes. The first group of customers is unknown, but it might be better to arrive around 10am. The ordered items included "Oni Himokawa" (800 yen), Japanese sake (500 yen?), miso konnyaku (210 yen), grilled manju (350 yen), and two types of udon with shiitake mushroom tempura (650 yen). The udon was served with either sesame sauce or regular dashi. The sesame sauce had a strong sesame flavor with sweetness and umami, while the noodles were flat but had a firm and chewy texture. When dipped in the broth, the noodles absorbed the flavor well. The shiitake mushroom tempura was crispy like rice crackers or cookies. The grilled manju was soft and chewy like bread. The Japanese sake was refreshing and easy to drink with the meal. Overall, despite the long wait, the restaurant is worth revisiting for its delicious food.

I lined up for about 2 hours in the scorching sun before the store opened, but when I got closer, the staff lent me a parasol. Inside, the atmosphere was very calm and relaxing, not at all like the long line outside. The udon noodles were much chewier than I had imagined, and I ended up getting a large serving (for free) which left me quite full. The staff mentioned that the Nihonbashi location is less crowded compared to the Ginza location.

You can enjoy the local specialty dish called "Himokawa Udon" at this restaurant in Gunma. It's a popular spot with a long line, so arriving 30 minutes before opening, I was 15th in line. I ordered the "Onikama" cold Himokawa Udon with rich broth, soy sauce, and egg mixed with thick noodles. It was delicious and flavorful, especially with the strong soy sauce flavor. The meat was also enhanced by the broth, making it even more delicious. I also ordered the "Shimonita Miso Konnyaku" and Akagi Beef seared sushi, which were both incredibly satisfying.

I arrived at 11 o'clock and waited in line for an hour in the heat. The Himokawa Udon was delicious. I usually only eat it with men-tsuyu at home, so the sesame sauce was very tasty. It came with ikura don, but the rice was surprisingly hard. I wanted to ask the staff if this was intentional. I waited for an hour, but I probably won't go back. I think I can eat well enough at home.

Udon restaurant in Ginza. Located a 2-3 minute walk from Higashi-Ginza Station. One of the top 100 udon shops in 2022. This shop specializes in "oni himokawa," a wide noodle unique to Gunma's local cuisine. Visited around 14:30 on a weekday and there were about 20 people waiting in line. The line was even longer than usual on weekends. Despite the long line, we were able to get in after about 30 minutes. The majority of customers were inbound tourists. Today, I had the following: Zaru Niwai (980 yen). The cold black soybean tea instead of regular water was a nice touch, especially on a hot summer day. The dish arrived in about 10 minutes. The noodles were extremely wide, about 5 centimeters, and had a unique texture. The dipping sauce came in two flavors, soy sauce and sesame. Personally, I like to eat them with the soy sauce first and then switch to sesame for a different taste. The Ginza location always has long lines, so I might try visiting their Nihonbashi location next time. This udon is perfect for summer. Thank you for the meal!

On a regular Thursday, I arrived around 3 pm and was told there were 2 groups ahead of me. The last order was at 3:30 pm and the restaurant closed at 4 pm. I was seated within 10 minutes. I ordered the Chicken Dashi Antarctica Curry Udon and the Oni Himo Kawa. The udon noodles were thick and chewy at 5 centimeters wide! The curry with chunks of chicken was delicious and coated the noodles perfectly. I post gourmet reviews on Instagram as well. Instagram⇒ayapom1192.

When passing by, I was immediately drawn to this tanuki bowl, it was so cute! They also sold keychains with the tanuki bowl design. I ordered the "Onigomen" set, which includes udon and a tempura bowl. The udon was flat and wide, similar to "Red Kitsune" or "Donbei" noodles, but it tasted just like regular udon. It was a light soy sauce-based broth that paired well with the pork. The tempura was crispy and delicious, although it could have used a bit more sauce. Overall, the meal was tasty, but considering the long line under the scorching sun, I expected something more extraordinary. Still, I'm happy to have fulfilled my dream of eating from this tanuki bowl!
