I visited a okonomiyaki restaurant called "Genkame" around 7:00 pm on a weekday in August 2023. Located about a 2-3 minute walk from Kinshicho Station, the restaurant was about 80% full. We informed them of our reservation and were seated in a tatami room for three people. We started with a draft beer for ¥500, which was a refreshing Ebisu beer served in a medium-sized glass. We enjoyed a toast and the smoothness of the beer.
Genkame Cabbage ¥450: A salad-like dish made with chopped cabbage seasoned with tenkasu, sauce, pickled ginger, nori, resembling okonomiyaki flavors. It had a rich B-class taste, making it a good appetizer with beer.
Mentaiko Potato Salad ¥450: A smooth potato salad topped with whole mentaiko and mayonnaise. It had a strong salty flavor, but the joy of tasting the mentaiko was delightful. A perfect match for beer.
Wagyu Sirloin Steak ¥1,300: Sliced wagyu sirloin steak with stir-fried bean sprouts. Enjoyed the tenderness of the wagyu while savoring the wasabi provided. The dish showcased the quality of the meat.
Seafood Mix Genkayaki ¥1,300: A fluffy okonomiyaki with cheese in the middle, topped with squid, shrimp, and tuna. The seafood-themed okonomiyaki was light and fluffy, showcasing the deliciousness of the batter and sauce. It was a quality dish.
We switched from draft beer to red wine for ¥2,700, enjoying a dry "Nuviana Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon" that paired well with the okonomiyaki sauce.
Squid and Butter Saute ¥600: Small squid and onions sautéed in butter. The sweet seasoning reflected the restaurant's charm, making it a good side dish for drinks.
Deluxe Yakisoba ¥1,400: Yakisoba with plenty of toppings and a fried egg on top. The thin noodles were decent, but didn't have the same impact as the okonomiyaki. The sauce-flavored pork, squid, and shrimp were well-cooked, but the texture of the noodles was lacking.
Beef Tendon and Green Onion Tempura ¥1,200: A well-made okonomiyaki with beef tendon and green onions, a classic Osaka combination. The fluffy texture allowed us to fully enjoy the batter and ingredients. Topped with plenty of green laver, it was delicious.
We ordered another red wine for ¥2,700, enjoying a slightly lighter "Momesan Cabernet Sauvignon" that paired well with flour-based dishes.
Kyoto-style Negiyaki ¥1,000: A negiyaki with beef tendon mixed into the batter. The soy sauce-based flavor was different from okonomiyaki, with a refreshing taste of green onions. The aroma of the green onions was pleasant.
Camembert Monjayaki ¥1,500: For dessert, we had a monjayaki with two whole Camembert cheeses. The dish was not seasoned, so we adjusted the flavor by adding sauce at the end. The deliciousness of the batter was evident in the monjayaki, which was enhanced by the Camembert cheese. It paired well with red wine.
Overall, we were satisfied with the taste of the okonomiyaki at "Genkame." The pricing of the drinks was reasonable, and the overall satisfaction was very high. The hostess provided good service, making it a fun place to dine. A must-visit okonomiyaki restaurant in Kinshicho, Tokyo.
