I recently had a reason to go to Kameido. When in Kameido, I always crave for cheap and delicious horumon (offal) as much as possible. I called Shodai Yoshida around 1 p.m. on the same day and managed to make a reservation for 5 p.m. The restaurant is a 5-minute walk from the station, a bit far from Kameido Horumon. Upon arrival at the restaurant just before 5 p.m., we were guided to the second floor as soon as it opened. We ordered some horumon while enjoying a glass of draft beer. We quickly decided on Yoshida Kalbi, Harami, Gyutan, and Maruchou, and added Hachinosu sashimi based on the recommendation from the staff. We later added rice and corn soup, switched from beer to black Hoppy, and had two refills of Kinmiya. The Gyutan had a refreshing fat that spread in the mouth when chewed thickly, which was delicious. The Maruchou was round and had a great texture, perfect for horumon lovers. And all of this in Tokyo for just 750 yen! The Hachinosu sashimi had a crunchy texture and great seasoning, making it a great choice. The Yoshida Kalbi and Harami were also surprisingly generous in portion size, with a satisfying chewiness. Compared to what you would eat at a restaurant in Nagano City, the meat was meatier and truly felt like yakiniku. With these five items, we were full. One person had oolong tea, but the total bill for two people was just over 8,000 yen. I have grown to love yakiniku in Kameido even more.

The staff recommended various types of hormone dishes, and we tried a lot of them such as raw liver, cow udder, beef tongue, liver, and about 10 other meat dishes. We also had dishes like raw stomach, vinegar tripe, cabbage, and kimchi. The drinks were all delicious, including draft beer, Hoppy, Makgeolli bottle, tomato highball, and lemon highball. Kameido is an area known for its many popular yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurants, despite being a competitive district, it is still reasonably priced, making it even more popular. This particular restaurant requires reservations, but I happened to find an opening on a holiday by chance and was able to make a reservation, so I decided to visit at the last minute. It seems they have a 2-hour time limit, so even though we had reservations, there was a line forming to enter the restaurant before our scheduled time (laughs). And once inside, there was a bottleneck in taking orders as everyone was seated at the same time. My friend and I were taking turns ordering from the menu, but by the time we finished taking orders from all the tables, it had been 20 minutes since we started, and the food, both meat and drinks, had yet to arrive, so we couldn't start eating the meat right away. However, the meat was very fresh and inexpensive! The first item that arrived was the raw lamb meat that I had been curious about. It was so fresh that it didn't have any gamey smell, and it came with a special sauce that made it tender and delicious. After that, we had to constantly grill the meat on the tabletop grill, and the table was so small that we didn't have time to take photos leisurely and just focused on eating. Before we knew it, it was already 30 minutes before the last order. Especially the hormone dishes were all delicious and very satisfying. Despite eating and drinking to our heart's content, the bill didn't even reach 5,000 yen per person, which I think is amazing.

Kameido Station North Exit, 3 minutes walk from the station, "Shodai Yoshida". This time, I ordered a la carte after being seated. The items I ordered (☆ indicates my favorite menu items) were: Kimchi ¥400, Liver ¥750, Corotan ¥800, Hachinosu Sashi ¥660, Kobukuro ¥640, Namarosu ¥1590, Nama Shiro ¥640, Kami Mino ¥750. I started with a beer, served with the restaurant's logo. I snacked on kimchi while waiting for the meat. The liver arrived first! I grilled it and dipped it in sesame oil sauce, it was perfect! I was curious about Corotan when I ordered it. It turned out to be pork tongue in a chewy texture with a nice seasoning, very delicious. Hachinosu Sashi came with two types of sauce, one sesame oil-based and the other vinegar-miso-based. I particularly liked the sesame oil sauce that nicely coated the meat. Taste: I won't go back to a yakiniku restaurant if the rice isn't delicious, but here both the meat and rice are tasty so I've been back a few times. The horumon (offal) doesn't have a strong smell, and there are many types available with descriptions of texture on the menu, making it recommendable even for horumon grilling beginners.
Atmosphere: There are some slightly cramped seats, but there are partitions between neighboring seats. It can get a bit noisy, but it's still easy to have a conversation. It tends to be crowded on weekends. I went on a Thursday before 8 pm and got in without waiting. (August 2023)
Service: No issues with the service. They promptly responded to requests like changing the grill net or placing orders.
Cost performance: It's not cheap, but as mentioned above, I keep coming back.

"I always say 'Isn't this summer not hot?' every year, but this summer is really hot. On hot days, what I crave for is definitely meat. When I want to boost my stamina with meat, I always visit the first generation Yoshida in Kameido. I also visit Hormone Wa, which was established independently from the first generation Yoshida in Oshiage, and I am convinced that they are unquestionably part of the Yoshida lineage. This restaurant, which is one of the top three hormone spots in Kameido, is a famous shop in the downtown area where you can eat high-quality meat at a reasonable price. It's wonderful that they open from noon on weekends, allowing you to enjoy meat and beer in the middle of the day. The lineup I ordered today is as follows:
- Hachinosu sashimi: A favorite of my 4-year-old daughter. She will definitely be a drinker in the future.
- Chorogi salad: The sweet Chorogi dressing is excellent. I always order this as a warm-up dish before eating meat.
- Tanmoto: A special recommendation for today that we ordered from the regular menu. It's a part with more fat and tenderness than the regular tongue, and it's delicious.
- Tansuji: This is a part of the tongue with a bit more chewiness. The combination of the chewy texture and refreshing wasabi is superb.
- Yang: I got hooked on this part since I first tried it at the first generation Yoshida. The crunchy texture is like a clam, and my teeth are delighted.
- Hatsumoto: Another part that I got hooked on since I first tried it at the first generation Yoshida. The combination of the crunchy part and the perfectly processed fat, with no smell at all, is a devilishly delicious dish that goes well with rice.
- Matsusaka beef Tsurami: I also ordered this from the special recommendation for today. The umami of the meat directly pierces through the top of my head, and to put it mildly, it's amazing. Many places serve Tsurami with sauce, but I take my hat off to the way they bring out the true potential of the meat with salt.
In summary, I was very satisfied this day as well. The service was impeccable, the taste was unquestionably the best, and the cost performance was outstanding. It's relatively easy to make a reservation, so I will continue to use their services in the future. Thank you for the meal."

Kameido has the best cost performance for yakiniku! The beef tongue is so delicious that you might think it's drinkable. Personally, I prefer thinly sliced meat. We used it for two people and had 3 drinks each, totaling 14,000 yen. They use high-quality A5 meat, so this price is too cheap. I was worried that the charcoal grill would fill the room with smoke, but the exhaust duct is excellent at sucking up most of the smoke. There is minimal smoke inside the restaurant.

However, it was a bit chaotic inside as customers were coming in all at once and there was no clear order in serving them. When I tried to order drinks and food, I was told to start with drinks first, causing more confusion. The quality of the meat was good as expected for a top-rated restaurant, but they were often out of certain items like yakiniku cuts, which was disappointing. Overall, the meat quality was excellent, with no unpleasant odor in the horumon. The beer was also well-maintained, with clean glasses and good quality. If the service was improved, it would be a great restaurant.

I felt like eating horumon in Kameido after a long time, so I visited Yoshida, which accepts reservations for two people. They operate on a shift system even during lunch, so if you make a reservation, you must arrive on time. When the time comes, everyone orders at once. There are often order mistakes at the beginning, so be sure to remember what you ordered! It is rare in Tokyo, but smoking is allowed at the table, so it is recommended for smokers. The beef tongue and all horumon dishes have good value and are delicious! The kimchi might be a bit powdery. I enjoyed the cold noodles for the finish and left with a full stomach!
