This is a tofu shop in Arashiyama (≧∀≦). I love tofu, so when I passed by the store, I couldn't help but go in (о´∀`о). I tried the yudofu menu and had a blissful time enjoying it ( ̄+ー ̄) (^ν^).

I walk across Togetsukyo Bridge from the station. As expected in Kyoto, there are many shops selling traditional Japanese goods. It's already past 11:30, so I decide to have lunch. I enter "Arashiyama Tofu Aoi" where they sell tofu and yuba. Inside, there is a place where you can eat tofu dishes made by the shop. I ordered the "Assorted Agedashi" (1995 yen) which comes with fried tofu and yuba. They also have options like Yudofu (1995 yen), Yuba Donburi set (1785 yen), and Tofu Curry (1365 yen). It's nice to see such a variety of tofu dishes. I enjoyed the Kyoto-style tofu dishes.

Near JR Saga Arashiyama Station, there is a shop that used to serve tofu dishes like Yudofu, but according to information on Tabelog, it seems they have closed that part of the business and now focus on selling tofu and soy milk products. The shop has a nice sign outside, giving the impression that they still serve food, but the space is actually being rented out to another store. The owner mentioned that cooking dishes took too much effort and time, so they decided to stop. You can enjoy soy milk products like soy milk shakes at the shop. The soy milk shake with kinako topping is delicious. I thought a shake would be a cold drink with ice, but it was actually a warm soy milk base. You can also take home tofu and yuba products, so I would like to try that next time.

Before boarding the tram train, I headed towards the shopping street to find a post office. I stumbled upon a tofu shop and bought a cup of soy milk. It was a weekend morning, so they didn't have soy milk pudding. The soy milk itself tasted pure and delicious, perhaps because the water was clean. The aftertaste was refreshing as well. It reminded me of when I first tried soy milk as a child and thought it was "gross." I started my weekend with delicious soy milk from a tofu shop in Kyoto, near the mountains.

I came to Arashiyama for a stroll. I came to try the tofu chazuke that he recommended. I wondered if it was different from ochazuke as I walked from JR Saga Arashiyama to the shop right away from Hankyu Arashiyama. He ordered the yuba rice bowl set this time. I had the tofu chazuke. The yuba rice bowl had various textures of yuba with a special sauce that was delicious! It had a subtle flavor of beans and was light and tasty. And my tofu chazuke had soft tofu diced on top of rice, with plenty of dashi broth and topped with plum sauce. It was really delicious with the plum sauce adding a nice accent. It had an elegant and gentle flavor. I finished it quickly. The pickles and rolled omelette served on the side were also delicious. I would like to try something different next time!

I visited Arashiyama, a place I have loved since my student days, for lunch to try their tofu rice porridge. Tofu dishes can be surprisingly expensive, but this place offers a casual dining experience with tofu dishes. It is located just a minute's walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station. I ordered the "Aoi Tea-Infused Set" along with a side of fried tofu croquettes. In addition to the tofu rice porridge I ordered, there were various tofu dishes available, including set meals and individual items. The "Aoi Tea-Infused Set" included tofu rice porridge, rolled omelette, mustard miso seasoned shiitake mushrooms, and pickles, all with a light and subtle Kyoto-style flavor. The plum paste on top of the rice porridge added a nice touch. It was healthy and light, but perhaps a bit too light, leaving me slightly unsatisfied. One thing that bothered me a bit was that the dishes took a while to come out. The restaurant wasn't too crowded, so I didn't expect the dishes to take so long to be served. However, the food was delicious, so overall it was a good experience.

Located near Saga Arashiyama Station, there is a tofu shop with a dining area. They offer a variety of dishes using different types of tofu such as tofu hot pot, tofu rice bowl, tofu curry, and yudofu. We tried the "Aoi Chazuke Set" which includes tofu tea-soaked rice, dashi roll, boiled vegetables, and Kyoto pickles. It was very refreshing and delicious. The price is ¥945, and according to the restaurant's website, it contains 448kcal. It's no surprise that tofu dishes are low in calories.

Many people might think of "Yudofu" when it comes to dining in Kyoto. However, Yudofu tends to be over 1000 yen. For those who feel like they can't spend that much on tofu dishes, I recommend the "Aoi Chazuke Set" here. Priced at 945 yen, it's just right for a lunch budget. The set includes tofu chazuke, dashimaki, ohitashi, and Kyoto pickles. The clear and fragrant broth with diced soft tofu and accented with umeboshi is delightful. It's light and easy to eat, and my companion even said, "I want to have this for breakfast after a night of drinking." The restaurant's website shows the calorie count at 440kcal, which is relatively low. It's perfect for a lunch during a trip when you tend to overeat. They also offer a variety of tofu dishes a la carte, so men may want to add an extra dish.

Arashiyama Yudofu Set: Yudofu, Black and White Sesame Tofu, Hiro-Usu, Kakiage, Seasonal Vegetables, Kyoto Pickles Assorted Agedashi Set: Agedashi Tofu, Hiro-Usu, Sesame Tofu, Oboro Tofu, Seasonal Vegetables, Kyoto Pickles I love tofu. The variety of tofu dishes available is great, and you get to try a little bit of each, making it quite a good deal. Personally, I really enjoyed the Agedashi Tofu, it had a great flavor. The only downside might be that it's a bit pricey (1995 yen). There is a coupon available on their website for a 5% discount.
