(2021, 10/16: Visit) In the early morning, Arashiyama was still peaceful with few people around, allowing for a leisurely experience. However, as lunchtime approached, it transformed into a bustling tourist destination. I was glad I had made a reservation as the place was quite crowded! Located just a 3-minute walk from Arashiyama Station on the Randen Arashiyama Line, this tofu cuisine specialty restaurant is situated right next to the Togetsukyo Bridge. The elegant and sophisticated atmosphere gives off a sense of luxury, as it is said to have been modeled after the residence of the Meiji-era Japanese painter Kawamura Manshu. After passing through the entrance with a long line of waiting guests, I was guided to a cozy semi-private seating area. Although I couldn't enjoy the renowned courtyard view, the quiet and pleasant ambiance of the seat was delightful. I had already placed my order when making the reservation, opting for the "Matsugaeda" course, which was in the middle of the three tofu dishes available. Considering its location in Arashiyama, the restaurant had a very reasonable pricing. The "Matsugaeda" course included appetizers, Kyoto-style side dishes, small plates, assorted tempura, yudofu (hot tofu), soba rice, and soba koji pickles! The appetizers, Kyoto-style side dishes, and tempura were all delicious with gentle flavors, and the hot tofu with Hiryu head sauce was particularly outstanding. The hot tempura with matcha salt, fragrant soba rice, and the main dish of homemade tofu in white and green resembling Kyoto moss garden were all very satisfying. The tofu was served with sesame sauce, ponzu, and salt, each enhancing the simple taste of tofu. Despite tofu being the main focus, the meal was surprisingly filling by the end. With such a variety of dishes, delicious food, and great ambiance, all for less than 3,000 yen, I felt it was a fantastic deal!
