Once again this year, I had the opportunity to enjoy the riverside dining experience in Kibune, the hidden gem of Kyoto. Due to heavy rain the other day, there was a section of the Eizan Railway that was not operating, so I had to take the subway and city bus to get there. Even though I can feel the scent of early autumn, the city area, with its basin climate, is still quite hot. However, once I arrived in Kibune, I was enveloped in the cool air filled with phytoncides. This year, I visited Kibunesou. I had a mini kaiseki meal, a draft beer, and a whisky on the rocks. As you can see, the food presentation was quite impressive. As a special bonus for making a reservation in advance, I also received a small glass of white wine to enjoy. Last year, I celebrated my birthday by experiencing the riverside dining in Kibune for the first time, but my daughter, who had other plans that day, was not able to join me. She was quite upset about it, so this year, she made sure to come along. The kaiseki meal was served in courses, which I personally prefer over having everything served at once. The sweetfish was still young, but I was happy that I could eat it whole, including the head. I always hold my chopsticks in one hand and my glass in the other when I drink, so having a soup bowl that I can easily hold with one hand is very convenient for me as someone from Nagoya. The use of white miso, which is prone to spoilage in the summer, was a nice touch, and the appearance of Kyoto's red miso during the summer was a treat. I am grateful to be able to fully enjoy the cool atmosphere of Kyoto's hidden gem once again this year. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
