The cafe on the second floor of Arashiyama! The shaved ice is so cute and delicious, and the cost performance is great! If you tried to eat this in Tokyo, it would probably cost 2000 yen! The matcha flavor has ice cream, red bean paste, and mochi balls, so it's very satisfying! The peach flavor is refreshing, and the black honey kinako is sweet! The sunlight pouring in because of the nice weather makes it even more beautiful!

I visited OBU CAFE for the first time, located on the second floor of the Keifuku Arashiyama Line Arashiyama Station, right near Arashiyama Station. I was exploring the area and feeling the heat, so I decided to take a break and went in around 3 pm. I was able to find a seat right away, which was a relief. Since it was tea time, I didn't have anything specific in mind to drink or eat, so I decided to try "hiyashi ame," a classic drink from the Kansai region. It's a drink made with malt syrup and ginger, and it has a simple sweet taste, just like the traditional one. The staff was friendly, and the cafe was comfortable, making it a perfect place to relax in Arashiyama, Kyoto. However, I was overwhelmed by the heat in Kyoto, the heat in Arashiyama, and the large number of foreign tourists, giving me a true experience of summer in Kyoto.

Around 2:00 PM, I was drawn in by the outdoor sign because it was too hot outside and I had some time. I think I waited outside for about 10 minutes before I could enter the store. The shaved ice was voluminous and satisfying. It was delicious. While eating, I was shivering from the double punch of the cold air conditioning. lol

I had the "Hannari Kyoto Gozen" meal - it was a bit pricey but it was delicious with plenty of Kyoto ingredients used! Especially the simmered Kinmedai (golden eye snapper) and bamboo shoot mixed rice had a gentle taste of elegant dashi, which I particularly liked. The amount of rice was generous and the oiliness of the steak was a bit bothersome, but the other side dishes were excellent. Highly recommended! ✨

I visited this restaurant during my sightseeing trip to Arashiyama for the autumn leaves. Despite the crowded shops, I was able to get in at this one, maybe due to good timing. I ordered the conger eel dish. The conger eel was soft and easy to eat. The style of this restaurant is to eat it normally and then add broth to eat it like ochazuke. It's nice that you can change the flavor by adding broth. If it's not too crowded, I wouldn't mind going back again.

During my stroll in Arashiyama, I came across this place and decided to check it out. The menu had a Kyoto flair, and the interior was calming with black bamboo decor. There was also a relaxing terrace seating area, although it was too hot to sit outside. The cafe offered a variety of dishes using seasonal vegetables and Kyoto ingredients like Kujo green onions and yuba. They also had traditional Kyoto-style sweets. I opted for a Kyoto-inspired meal and a visually refreshing Goldfish Bowl Soda for my drink. The soda came in blue, yellow, green, and red, and I chose Dragon Blue. Then we returned to the hotel and attended the morning sermons at Nishi Honganji and Higashi Honganji. Nishi Honganji, also known as "Oshisan," is the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha sect. It was originally founded by Lady Kakushinni, daughter of Shinran, near the current location of Chion-in. The temple moved to its current location in 1591. On the second day of our Kyoto trip, we started our sightseeing in Arashiyama. - Bamboo Grove: A popular spot in Kyoto where neatly arranged bamboo groves cover the sky. It is a 400-meter path leading from Nonomiya Shrine through Tenryuji Temple's north gate to Okochi Sanso Villa. This well-maintained bamboo grove is a representative tourist spot in Kyoto, once a villa area for nobles in the Heian period. Enjoy the cool breeze and the atmosphere of ancient Kyoto. - Tenryuji Temple: A Zen temple of the Rinzai sect located in Arashiyama, one of Kyoto's top tourist destinations. Although we couldn't see the Cloud Dragon painting, Tenryuji Temple is known for it. At "Ob Cafe" on the 2nd floor of HANNA-RI HOKURIKU SQUARE at Keifuku Arashiyama Station, we enjoyed dashi rice and traditional Japanese sweets in a modern Japanese space with a view of Arashiyama's stunning scenery. To beat the heat, we had cold noodles and classic summer gourmet curry. The cold noodles came with a side of chili oil for flavor variation. The curry had a taste similar to beef tendon curry. Enjoying curry on a hot day, we worked up a sweat.

Let's take a break from the heat while exploring Arashiyama and head to the cozy Han'nari Hokkori Square 2F cafe, OBU CAFE. To cool down, I ordered some shaved ice. There are 5 options to choose from, and I picked the strawberry, matcha, and black sugar kinako flavors. The shaved ice was simple but delicious!

It is located right next to Nagai Park. It seems popular for lunch. I arrived a bit after the usual lunch time, so I was able to get in without waiting. The banana cake was not too sweet, just the right amount of sweetness for me. I usually order a cafe au lait, but on this day I had a lemon squash which was refreshing and delicious.

After returning from Arashiyama to Arashiyama Station from Arashiden Arashiyama Station, I started to feel a bit hungry. I had a luxurious breakfast hot pot at Hoshinoya for breakfast and was full, so I didn't have lunch and wandered around until around 2:30 pm when I started to feel like eating something. There happened to be a cafe above the Arashiden Station, and since it was drizzling rain and windy, I wanted something warm to eat. When I looked at the menu, I found something perfect and decided to go in! After having my temperature checked and sanitizing my hands, I entered the store. Since it was an odd time, it was not crowded. I sat at my favorite seat. I ordered a stone-cooked soy milk tantan dipping seven-grain udon for 1350 yen, which came with salt koji flavored fried chicken. I also ordered a beer to go with it. The stone-cooked soy milk tantan arrived bubbling hot on the table. Carefully avoiding getting burned, I dipped the udon and ate it. The udon, being a slightly warm seven-grain udon, had a light color similar to soba noodles. It was chewy and delicious. The soy milk soup had plenty of large pieces of Hiyoshi pork, making it voluminous and tasty. The salt koji marinated fried chicken had just the right amount of saltiness, which paired well with the beer. It was just the right amount for my stomach at that time. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for the meal!

My husband and I, along with our friends, visited Kyoto as two couples. We visited Tenryu-ji Temple and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, and then looked for a place to have lunch. We walked along a street lined with souvenir shops, but most of the restaurants we saw seemed either too expensive or like typical tourist traps. Eventually, we decided to try OBU CAFE, which seemed a bit hidden but suitable for a relaxing break. To our surprise, the experience was quite different from the usual tourist spots - the service was friendly, the food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. We were satisfied with our meals, which consisted of the daily lunch special for the men and an oil pasta lunch for the women. The staff handled a small mishap with spilled water on our table gracefully, without any hint of annoyance. The daily special, oil-splashed chicken, was flavorful and satisfying, with generous portions. The women enjoyed their oil pasta, which had just the right amount of anchovy flavor. The set meal also included perfectly portioned bread. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the affordable and delicious food, as well as the heartfelt service at this tourist spot. For 1,200 yen each, it was a meal that left nothing to be desired.

I was lured in by the "strolling around Arashiyama and having beef steak set meal" and decided to order the beef steak for 1800 yen. There is a terrace seat and the terrace is great. It's a bit cold at this time of year, but... The beef steak was well... yeah... tough! Haha, tourist spots often have that kind of thing, right? The sauce was really delicious though! Haha, I enjoyed the post-meal roasted green tea while looking at the autumn leaves on the terrace. I'll come back when I visit Arashiyama again. Next time, I'll try ordering something different.

On the third day of a two-night, three-day trip to Kyoto enjoying autumn leaves, delicious sake, and cuisine, we visited the stylish OBUCAFE on the second floor of Tenryu-ji Temple in Arashiyama. I had the Japanese-style pasta peperoncino. The view from the second floor was nice, and the interior of the restaurant was clean and delicious.

The menu was extensive, the portions were generous, and the food was delicious. The restaurant was not very spacious, so there was a bit of a wait.

It did not taste good and there were issues with the service.
