I had the opportunity to stay in Kyoto and decided to take a leisurely walk in Arashiyama during the holiday. It seemed that the impact of the coronavirus was starting to subside, as there were many domestic and international tourists. I was sweating a lot during my stroll, but when I entered the restaurant, I was seated in a cool area which was a relief. Since it was the midsummer day of the Ox, I ordered a draft beer and grilled eel. I was satisfied with the portion and taste. The side dishes and soup that came with it were also delicious.

Here, in the back garden! In the heart of Arashiyama! All the customers are foreigners! There are no Japanese people... Everyone seems to be wanting a Japanese atmosphere... They are cooking in a big pot since noon. I am Japanese... but I even felt like I was overseas! ✨

After buying a meal ticket, I sat down at a compact restaurant with many seats. It's self-service, so you have to go pick up your order when called. The front of the store is lively with people enjoying fried yuba on the go, but inside you can also order a set of fried yuba and udon to eat leisurely. The udon is delicious, and when paired with fried yuba, it's quite filling. Highly recommended for those who want to sit and enjoy their meal.

Before experiencing the Twelve Layered Yuba in Arashiyama, I decided to have lunch at this place. It was a bit hidden from the crowded tourist spots in Arashiyama, so it wasn't too busy. I tried the Oboro Tofu Steamed Dish, which consisted of rice topped with yuba and a savory sauce, then steamed. It had a gentle flavor and was quite delicious. I think it's a rare dish to find in many restaurants. I also enjoyed the tempura and assorted dishes. The restaurant had a luxurious atmosphere, but the staff were friendly and made me feel comfortable. I especially liked the staff member with a Muslim background who covered their hair with a Japanese-style cloth. I felt that this place is perfect for those who want to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of Arashiyama.

On this day, the main purpose was not Arashiyama itself, but a visit to the Kurama Shrine. After finishing our visit in the morning, we decided to extend our trip to Arashiyama for lunch. Although I was in the mood for soba, I ended up choosing udon. I had the "Yuba Tamago Ankake Udon with Yuba Cheese" for 1350 yen, while my daughter had the "Creamy Uji Matcha Udon" for 1150 yen. The udon noodles were thin and had a smooth texture, which I haven't tasted in a while. The yuba was fried and became soft when dipped in the broth, allowing us to enjoy two different textures. The Yuba Cheese dish consisted of yuba wrapped around cheese and deep-fried, providing a satisfying crunch.

I stopped by Arashiyama for work and decided to visit this shop. Although the exterior looks like a souvenir shop, there is a restaurant inside. I wanted to dine on the second floor with a view of Togetsukyo Bridge, but it was only available for groups, so I dined on the first floor. I chose this place because I could use a travel support coupon and they offer a variety of dishes such as yudofu, yuba dishes, udon, and bento boxes. The restaurant was spacious, clean, and had a pleasant atmosphere. There were a few foreign customers and foreign staff members, but overall, the service was good. I ordered the Kayaryu Yudofu hot pot, which allowed me to enjoy various Kyoto Sagano dishes centered around yudofu in small portions. It was a leisurely and delicious dining experience. The 70 years of history in Arashiyama is truly reflected in the quality of the food and the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant. The dishes were both refined and approachable. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Lunch at a restaurant in Arashiyama during winter. The soba shop that many tourists were trying to go to was full, so we ended up here. We were able to get a table inside with almost no wait, which was very helpful. I ordered the yuba cheese udon. The udon had plenty of cheese inside, giving it a strong flavor. The yuba cheese also had cheese inside the processed food, giving it a satisfying texture. It was a good meal.

The atmosphere is very Kyoto! It's fun to make yuba and tofu by hand! You can enter from the souvenir shop facing the bus street along the Katsura River, but it's recommended to enter from the back entrance through the alley on the west side of the building for a doubled atmosphere. Inside the store, from the washroom where water comes out of bamboo tubes, everywhere you look, it fills you with the feeling of "This is Arashiyama!". I wanted to enjoy making yuba and tofu by hand, so I chose the Matsukado set meal (around ¥3300?), while my family chose the chicken cutlet set meal and tempura set meal (each around 2,000 yen?), and we shared them. It's nice that the set meals come with zaru soba, but it was a bit cold as there was a cold wave. It would be even better to change to warm soba. By the way, there are udon and rice bowls for less than 1,000 yen each. They were all delicious with a beautiful appearance and a rich dashi flavor. Next time, I will bring my grandma who I don't get to see often!

On Saturday at noon, the shop I had my eye on in Arashiyama turned out to be super crowded!? I casually stumbled upon this place and decided to visit without much expectation. The shop had a dark and cozy atmosphere. With the help of the staff, I was guided to a terrace-like space at the back that seemed to have been expanded, with creatively designed furniture and a unique ambiance. I carefully looked through the menu, which offered various soba dishes, set meals, and Matsukado bento boxes. I decided to try the Kyoto-style oboro yudofu with a Matsukado bento box. The oboro yudofu, served in a paper pot, was a delight with its cloudy broth and garnishes like watercress and carrots. The Matsukado bento box included tempura, seared trout, and other Kyoto-style dishes, all of which were delicious. The oboro yudofu was warm and creamy, perfect with a touch of ponzu or soy sauce. The tempura was crispy and the shrimp was juicy, while the seared trout had a nice umami flavor. The other dishes, like the simmered fu, sesame tofu, and rice, were also excellent. Overall, I enjoyed the Kyoto-like atmosphere and had a great lunch experience at "Ryoya Oku no Niwa" restaurant. Highly recommended!

Visited the famous Hojo-in temple known for its autumn leaves on November 28, 2021. For lunch, I came here. If you go a little further back, the lunch would cost around 3000 yen, but here you can eat for just a little over 1000 yen. It was quite delicious. I ordered the fluffy tofu udon for 1200 yen (excluding tax) with a large serving for an additional 200 yen. Thank you for the meal. Hojo-in Temple.

I had the seasonal Matsukado bento. The portion size was not huge, but each dish was refined and you could taste the essence of the ingredients, typical of Kyoto cuisine. The restaurant is located near Togetsukyo Bridge, hidden behind a souvenir shop facing the street, so it might be a bit of a hidden gem. Even during the peak autumn foliage season with crowds of tourists on the streets, we were able to enter the restaurant with little to no wait. The prices are a bit high for the portion size, but it's a tourist-oriented restaurant with a good location, so I have no complaints. When you're sightseeing in Arashiyama and unsure where to have lunch, this restaurant is worth considering.

A few minutes west along the Katsura River from the north end of Togetsukyo Bridge, tucked away quietly off a side street lined with souvenir shops, you'll find this place. Just before the second floor is Arashino-tei, where you can enjoy a view of the Katsura River. I visited around 5 pm, just before last order (they are only open during the day). My companion ordered the seasonal Matsukado bento box, while I chose the option with Yudofu (citrus tofu hot pot) and Matsukado. Both bento boxes were the same, with the only difference being the addition of Yudofu. The dishes, including Hassun and Namafu, were gently seasoned, allowing the flavors of the ingredients to shine through. The tempura consisted of two lotus roots, one shrimp, and a lotus root with roast beef sandwiched inside, which was particularly delicious. COVID-19 precautions included temperature checks and hand sanitizing upon entry, staff wearing masks and face shields, spacious seating with tables placed at a distance, and partitions between tables. There were also private rooms available. Since it was a weekday and close to closing time, we had the place to ourselves and were able to relax.

I visited this restaurant while sightseeing in Arashiyama! The interior was very stylish with glass walls with flowing water and large wooden tables. The menu had a variety of options including soba and Japanese set meals, but this time I chose the tempura soba! The light soup with duck breast and tempura had a gentle flavor, making it very easy to eat!

I visited this restaurant in Arashiyama that I found on the internet for lunch during my trip to Kyoto. It is located near Togetsukyo Bridge. I visited around 12:00 on a Sunday, expecting to wait for a table during lunchtime, but surprisingly, I was seated right away. The restaurant was about 80% full. I ordered the Chicken Cutlet Set Meal for 1,680 yen, the Grated Tofu Set Meal for 1,580 yen, and a draft beer for 593 yen. The set meals come with a main dish, soba noodles, and side dishes. The Grated Tofu Set Meal had tofu simmered in sweet and savory sauce served on top of rice. Personally, I got a little tired of it halfway through. Overall, it was a convenient place to experience Kyoto cuisine.

When I visited this restaurant in Arashiyama while accompanying a friend on a Kyoto sightseeing trip, the taste of the udon was average and I found the pricing to be a bit lacking. It's a place mainly catered towards tourists, where you can eat udon, soba noodles, and yudofu.

From the Hankyu Arashiyama Station side, walk to the right of Togetsukyo Bridge and cross to the right. Around three shops with a variety of stores. Right in front of the Arashiyama bus stop. It was New Year's Day, so Arashiyama was very crowded. I was looking for a place to have dinner with a typical Kyoto atmosphere, but the crowds made it difficult. I decided to explore an area I don't usually go to... but most of the shops were souvenir shops, and there were not many places for a hearty meal. However, I saw a sign for "Kyoto Saga Cuisine Ryo-ya" and decided to give it a try. Tempura set meal for 1800 yen (excluding tax) - Tempura: 2 prawns, lotus root, shiso leaf, shimeji mushrooms, pumpkin, and green onion. Soba noodles. Tofu. Miso soup. Pickles.

There is a shop where you can eat yuba cheese! I ordered matcha soba with yuba cheese on top! Whenever I go to Arashiyama, I always eat yuba cheese! The yuba is crispy and delicious. The matcha-scented soba is also enjoyable and very satisfying. I ended up eating three yuba cheeses that day! It's so delicious, be careful not to overeat (*´Д`*) The atmosphere inside the restaurant is calm, and you can enjoy your meal slowly.

While on a family trip to Kyoto, we tried yuba for the first time and it was recommended by a friend. We ordered the Yuba set meal, which came in a white milk pot, similar to a tofu hot pot, and it looked delicious as it bubbled away. The yuba was delicate and seemed like it would fall apart easily, so we carefully scooped it up with chopsticks and enjoyed it. It was a relaxing lunch at a yuba specialty store!

I visited Kyoto after a long time. I had only been there when I was young, but recently I have become interested in visiting temples, so I was looking forward to this trip. For lunch on the first day, I was looking for a Japanese restaurant with a traditional atmosphere, and I chose this restaurant. There were various menu items such as yuba, but I chose the most popular dish, the Oboro Tofu set meal. It was delicious and refreshing with fried tofu, green onions, and pickled ginger. I also tried the matcha soba, which was light and had firm noodles, just the way I like it. I also had dessert and it was a satisfying start to my trip.

I went to Arashiyama for autumn leaf viewing. There were a lot of people from Hankyu Arashiyama to Togetsukyo Bridge. I experienced human traffic congestion for the first time. I crossed the Togetsukyo Bridge and enjoyed viewing autumn leaves around Hogonin, then on my way back, I looked for a place where I could have dinner and smoke, but there were not many options. I planned to go to Arashiyama Restaurant by turning left before crossing the Togetsukyo Bridge, but I couldn't enter because it was for reserved guests only. So, I found a restaurant called Oku no Niwa a little further ahead and went in. The atmosphere was quiet and calm with live piano music playing automatically, which was nice. I couldn't smoke inside, but there was a smoking area outside, so my wife agreed. I had the cheapest set meal called "Kyosanmai Gozen" (1330 yen). It included Yudofu and Gomadofu, with a light but flavorful dashi broth for the Yudofu, which was delicious. The two skewers of soft mochi-like Tofu Dengaku with red miso and white miso were also tasty. The Kyoto pickles and Wasabi Shiitake mushrooms were included, and the Wasabi Shiitake mushrooms were delicious. The broth was moderately hot and had a nice flavor from the dashi. I felt like the portion was a bit small, but the taste was very elegant.
