The course costs 4,000 yen and includes sashimi (octopus, tuna, yellowtail, sea bream), miso soup, tempura (2 shrimp and broccoli), sweet and savory miso grilled chicken and eggplant, lotus root dumpling, sliced raw fish, corn soup with steamed egg, clam and vegetable hot pot, fried sweet and sour flounder, coffee ice cream and mandarin orange jelly. Everything was delicious! Thank you as always.

Finally got to visit Oonosan after struggling to make a reservation. We started with lunch. When making a phone reservation, you have to decide on your order in advance, and the recommended option seems to be the tempura set for two. Reservations are only available for 11:30 or 13:00, so you have to choose one of those times. The tempura is fried in three batches and served hot. On this day, we had shrimp, pumpkin, eggplant, okra, corn, chikuwa (fish cake), and 3 kinds of beans. It was a satisfying meal. I think tempura is best enjoyed hot. The tempura set also comes with a small serving of cold udon noodles, which were chewy and delicious. I'm thinking of ordering tempura and cold udon next time. However, on this day, the interior of the restaurant was very hot, with no air conditioning or fan to cool us down. I was sweating a lot and worried about getting heatstroke. Next time, I'll try the evening course instead.

The cost performance was amazing. I made a reservation because of the good reputation. Sashimi with sea bream, tuna, squid, and sea bream. Is the tuna chu-toro? The portions were large. Grilled ayu fish with salt. Grilled conger eel over charcoal. The best way to eat conger eel, the skin needs to be well grilled. Chawanmushi with pressed sushi of conger eel inside. Unusual tempura with scallops and half-cooked egg. Sukiyaki with sweet potato. Red miso soup. Dessert. The portions were very large and everything was delicious, but I ate too much and felt uncomfortable. My partner said it was not like drinking too much at home.

This is my favorite restaurant that I have visited several times. The prices have gone up a bit, but the food is really delicious and offers good value for money! I haven't been able to go at night yet because it's hard to make a reservation on the days I want to go, but I really want to visit. The seating is in tatami rooms, so if it had sunken kotatsu tables, it would be perfect haha.

Located a 9-minute walk from Kintetsu Mukojima Station, this restaurant is known for its incredibly cost-effective lunch menu. They offer lunch sets like tempura and sashimi, as well as course meals for dinner. I visited during lunchtime and chose their famous tempura set, which is served in three separate batches of freshly fried tempura. I enjoyed the delicious tempura with salt and tempura dipping sauce. Thank you for the meal.

I had the beef loin meal and it was definitely worth it for the volume. I thought I would be eating it with yakiniku sauce, but it turns out you eat it with raw egg, like sukiyaki style. It was a pleasant surprise!

I challenged the incredibly cost-effective lunch that requires reservations for the third time. Finally, I was able to make a reservation and visited the place! The entrance was small and unassuming. Inside, there were only three raised tatami seating areas. I thought there was no way I could get a reservation, but I was proven wrong. I ordered the "Sashimi Set" for 1600 yen per person, which requires reservations for a minimum of two people by the day before. First, a variety of small dishes were served on a tray. Then, a large plate of sashimi was brought out, enough to serve three people! It was amazing! Next came the tempura, which was crispy and delicious. The quality of the tempura was outstanding, and it was served as a side dish! Starting with the "Chawanmushi" with plenty of yuzu and sakura shrimp, the unique flavor and texture were delightful. It was quite satisfying just with this dish alone! The tempura was crispy, the shrimp juicy, and the vegetables sweet. The high-quality tempura being served as a side dish was impressive! The "Daily Sashimi" platter was overwhelming with a total of 13 varieties, including raw shrimp, salmon, oysters, tuna, tuna tartare, toro rolls, gas shrimp, and four other types, as well as egg and yuba. The egg sauce served with the first tray was recommended to dip the sashimi in. It was amazing! The combination of the egg sauce and sashimi was incredible. The raw egg on top of the rice with sashimi dipped in and eaten was so delicious! The oysters were fresh and large, and the raw yuba felt luxurious. The sweet shrimp and other delicacies were irresistible. The combination of the egg sauce and sashimi was beyond words. The raw oysters were fresh and large, and the raw yuba felt luxurious. The sweet shrimp and other delicacies were irresistible. The combination of the egg sauce and sashimi was beyond words. The miso soup, rice (one free refill), pickles, and dessert were all included. The cost-effective lunch lived up to its reputation, and we enjoyed it immensely. They have two seating times at 11:30 and 13:00, with parking available for three cars. They kindly request that guests carpool if possible.

Oonosan is a popular restaurant known for its tempura, and reservations are essential as it gets fully booked as soon as it opens. Instead of the popular tempura set, I had the Miyazaki beef steak set which came with side dishes like hijiki, green tea soba, dried daikon, and tuna sashimi. It also included a variety of small dishes and fruits, all for around 2000 yen. It's a delicious and affordable lunch option that I highly recommend.

Today, my family and I visited this restaurant. We had been wanting to go for a while, but due to the pandemic, we had been holding off because the counter seats were not being used and it was difficult for our family to sit on the floor. With the state of emergency finally lifted, I called and was told that next week would be okay, so I made a reservation and secured a table and parking. We arrived at 11:30 on a holiday we had reserved. Lunchtime is from 11:30 to 1:00 in two sessions. The quiet restaurant had a compact layout with a kitchen on the left, a counter with 4 seats in front, and 3 small raised tatami seating for 4 on the right. It was run by 4 veteran staff members. The menu had about 13 set meals. We both ordered the popular "Tempura Set (9 items)". We drank warm tea, wiped our hands with cold towels, and got ready. First, a tray filled with small dishes was brought to us, all intricately prepared dishes including tuna sashimi. We started with the first serving of tempura, the classic "shrimp, eggplant, okra", all lightly fried and crispy. Whether eaten with tempura sauce or salt, it was delicious. The second serving included "fried dashi, yam, squid ink bun", a creative twist but also very tasty. The last serving included "bamboo ring salad roll, chicken, conger eel", with plum paste on the conger eel, soft and fluffy. The tempura changes according to the season and is always served hot from the kitchen, a great attention to detail. The chawanmushi with a citrus scent and strong broth was also excellent. We finished our meal, and even though rice refills were free, we were already full from the dishes. Finally, we were able to come and were very satisfied. I think this place deserves more recognition. The service was good. Thank you for the meal. Overall rating: ☆ Wheelchair accessibility: X, Western-style toilet near the entrance, parking for 3 cars next to the restaurant.

Lunch reservations are always necessary. As you can see from the photos, the high-quality dishes and freshly fried tempura are served one after another for only 1350 yen. That's why it's so popular, even though the transportation access is not great. There is a parking lot, but it's not very big, so you'll need to confirm availability.

The restaurant had a lot of creative ideas in the way they served the dishes, and it was a wonderful place. We had lunch there, and the prices were surprisingly affordable. We had already chosen our dishes when we made the reservation, but as soon as we were seated, they brought out a tray filled with small dishes. Even though it was lunchtime and we didn't have any alcohol, the person next to us seemed to be enjoying their drinks. It's no wonder with all these dishes laid out in front of them, and I couldn't help but envy them. We chose the tempura set with 9 items, so we were about to receive 9 different tempura dishes. As we enjoyed the dishes in front of us, they kept bringing out freshly fried tempura, 2 or 3 pieces at a time. It was a constant joy to eat the piping hot tempura. And all of this for only 1350 yen. I was amazed at the incredible work they put in without cutting corners at this price point. The dishes were also delicious at the perfect temperature. A lovely little restaurant that considers the feelings of the diners. I definitely want to come back for dinner next time. The restaurant is very small, so I recommend making a reservation.

I heard about a surprising lunch deal from an online source and planned to go to a Chinese restaurant, but it was unexpectedly closed. So, I had to change my plans last minute. I called another place and they said it was okay for me to come. Luckily, I made it in time. I had a freshly fried tempura set with 9 pieces, served with curry salt or tempura dipping sauce. The meal also included a vegetable salad, tuna sashimi, hijiki seaweed and beans, macaroni, udon noodles, a small plate of hiroshu (Japanese-style omelette), chawanmushi (savory egg custard), pickled vegetables, rice, and miso soup. All of this for only 1,350 yen. It was indeed a surprising lunch deal. The tempura included shrimp, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, squid, rolled omelette, chicken breast, potato-wrapped chikuwa (fish cake), and broccoli. It was like homemade food served at a casual eatery, but the number of dishes for the price really showed the generosity of the owner. Truly the ultimate lunch deal.

From Kintetsu Mukaijima Station, heading towards Kyoto, you will find the restaurant on the left side after a short walk. The name of the restaurant is "Oono" and they are known for their delicious tempura. While the standard choice is the tempura set meal, I recommend trying the "Shrimp Tempura Curry Set Meal" for 1150 yen. It comes with plenty of sashimi, side dishes, red miso soup, and chawanmushi. By the time I reached the European-style curry topped with three shrimp tempura, I was already full. Thank you for the feast.

Located an 8-minute walk from Kintetsu Mukaijima Station, this restaurant has a parking lot. While the exterior may give off the vibe of a traditional Japanese restaurant, the interior features three raised tatami seating areas separated by screens and a counter, creating a calm and cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a Japanese-style izakaya. The main draw of this restaurant is the tempura crafted by a chef who honed his skills at a famous hotel in Osaka. I ordered the Tempura Set for 1350 yen including tax. The set includes tuna sashimi, simmered red fish, Ise udon noodles, cold tofu, vinegar dish, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), miso soup, rice (with seconds allowed), pickles, dessert, and the main tempura dish served in three parts. The first plate of tempura consists of shrimp, eggplant, and lotus root. The second plate includes shrimp, rolled omelet, and broccoli. The third plate features shrimp, sea bream, and bamboo ring with potato salad. The variety and presentation of the dishes are impressive, showcasing the chef's skill and creativity. The tempura is crispy and delicious. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance. This is a must-visit restaurant if you are in the area.

Located on the first floor of the third Choei Mansion at the corner of a crossroads, just north of the east exit of Mukaijima Station in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto City, this restaurant has a simple exterior with a traditional Japanese atmosphere. The menu mainly consists of various types of tempura sets, including tempura lunch sets and the Matsukado bento box, which requires advance reservation. The most popular item during lunchtime is the 1350 yen tempura set, which includes three different types of tempura served in three rounds. The tempura is freshly fried as you eat, and the set also includes a variety of side dishes. The tempura is served with curry salt and tempura dipping sauce, along with a side of chawanmushi (savory egg custard). The first round of tempura includes salad rolls with bamboo shoots, eggplant, and shrimp, followed by sardines, okra, and shiitake mushrooms in the second round. The final round consists of mochi tempura, rolled omelette, and whole shrimp. The tempura has a crispy and light texture, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through. The lunchtime service is split into two parts, attracting a loyal group of regular customers.

On December 22, 2019, I had lunch in Kyoto at Mukojima. The only option for lunch was the "Tempura set meal" for 1200 yen. First, a tray with "mountain tuna", "simmered dish", "ume salt", "silken tofu", "sesame sauce udon", "mentaiko, potato salad", "pickles", "red miso soup", "dessert", and "tempura dipping sauce" was brought out. Then came the rice, which was shiny and very delicious. It was sprinkled with seaweed flakes, adding a sweet flavor that complemented the tasty rice very well. The first round of tempura included "shrimp, edamame, eggplant" and was perfectly fried. The shrimp was cooked through and incredibly delicious. Next was a steamed egg custard, followed by the second round of tempura with "kisu, shiitake mushroom, warabi fern", and finally the third round with "sweetfish, shrimp, squid" to finish. Amazing! Overall, it was incredible! The thoughtfulness of serving the tempura in three rounds was impressive. Also, the option of "ume salt" and "tempura dipping sauce" catered to personal preferences. The meal focused on simmered dishes and traditional dashi broth, so the sesame sauce on the udon was a nice touch. The rice was refillable, and I left feeling fully satisfied. The warm dishes were always served at the perfect temperature, showing great attention to detail. This restaurant is a gem. All this for only 1200 yen! Reservations are a must, but I will definitely be back.

When making a reservation, I was asked about the menu, but since I had never been there before, I decided to choose after arriving. I ordered the tempura set meal (9 items) to be brought in three separate servings of freshly fried tempura. I intended to take photos of all three servings, but missed one plate. The contents of that plate were tempura of sand borer, salmon white roe, corn, and edamame. Additionally, shrimp appeared twice. The tempura was crispy and very delicious. The portion size was surprisingly large. I recommend going on an empty stomach. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant where 3-4 cars can park, but reservations are required. They will ask if you are driving when you make a reservation, so it's a good idea to book early.

The high cost-performance tempura set meal (9 items) at Mukojima is only ¥1400, and the quality and quantity at this price point is unbelievably high in the current times. I definitely want to try the sashimi set meal next!
