Arashiyama Early in the rainy season, just before the start of GoTo Travel, my husband and I took a one-night trip to Arashiyama in Kyoto. We stayed at Watashizuki-tei, a charming inn located on the south side of Togetsukyo Bridge. The inn has three dining areas: Matsukaze-kan, Hekikawa-kan along the river, and Shuusankan, which was renovated in 2012 with a theme of "moon". We were guided to a 10-tatami mat room called Nagoso on the second floor of Shuusankan, which is located at the back closest to Togetsukyo Bridge. The room had a spacious natural hot spring bath, although it was not an open-air bath. The room had a soothing atmosphere with the scent of wood. The hot spring water from the private faucet was natural, and the communal bath water was even smoother and great for the skin. We enjoyed multiple baths and felt relaxed by the time we left. We arrived half an hour earlier than the 4:00 PM check-in time, but we were promptly guided to our room. We enjoyed some matcha tea and dried sweets to start off our stay. The yukatas provided for us to wear were cute and stylish, perfect for a stroll around Kyoto. For dinner and breakfast, we dined in the large hall of Hekikawa-kan, which overlooks the river. The view of the river was lovely, despite the muddy water due to heavy rain upstream that day. The early summer kaiseki meal was delightful, starting with appetizers like sesame tofu with caviar and a sashimi platter. The meal continued with a delicate soup, chilled simmered dish, and a unique dish of sweetfish with tade vinegar. The steamed rice dish was also delicious, with a crispy crust at the bottom. We ended the meal with a refreshing serving of yudofu, a specialty of Arashiyama. The next morning, we enjoyed a peaceful view of Togetsukyo Bridge at 4:00 AM, with no one else in sight. For breakfast, we indulged in more delicious dishes, with yudofu being the highlight. It was a luxurious experience that we would love to repeat if given the chance.

Accommodation support team @ Arashiyama, Kyoto. We stayed in Arashiyama during the peak autumn season. The neighborhood has a charming hot spring town atmosphere, and at night, there is the elegant Watatuki-tei. The young waitress who took care of us at this lovely inn provided excellent service and engaging conversation. We enjoyed talking with her so much that we wished she could be our waitress again. Dinner was served in the room, which was a rare treat. Although the portions seemed large at first, they were just right once we started eating. We admired the presentation and savored the flavors. The bath was relaxing, and slipping into the soft futon after warming up was a perfect way to unwind from our journey. Breakfast was served in a banquet hall, and while we expected a buffet, having breakfast while overlooking the river was truly luxurious. The price was on the higher side, but my girlfriend was so delighted that she wanted to stay for two nights and come back again. We were deeply impressed by the hospitality that exceeded the price. I highly recommend staying here to experience a level of hospitality like no other. It's a shame that words cannot fully express how wonderful our time at Watatuki-tei was. Thank you for the fantastic experience. We will definitely be back as a couple. #Arashiyama #Let's go to Kyoto #Watatuki-tei #Thank you Watatuki-tei

On the first day in Kyoto, we stayed at the Togetsutei near the Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama and had a wonderful kaiseki dinner. The dishes were meticulously prepared, and one interesting dish was the rice popcorn made from rice. It was like eating cotton snow. I was curious about the process of making it. We also enjoyed dishes like matsutake mushroom rice, conger eel and matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot, persimmon pot-au-feu, and a tasting of local sake. The chefs came out to explain each dish in detail, which was very touching. The warm hospitality of the landlady and the heartfelt dishes prepared by the chefs made us feel truly pampered. It was a rare experience for me, as I usually rush through meals and drinks in my daily life. I felt fortunate to have this relaxing time. I accompanied my husband on his business trip and planned some sightseeing, and I truly felt it was worth coming along. The calm and elegant cityscape left a deep impression on me. I reflected on my usual busy self and thought I should slow down more. I would love to come back and stay longer in Arashiyama next time.

During a 2-night stay at Watasetsutei, a ryokan we stayed at over the weekend, we opted for room service for dinner. The entrance did not seem to be wheelchair accessible. The first night we had a set course meal, but the following day we had the option to choose between a different set course meal, beef shabu-shabu, or sea bream shabu-shabu. We chose the beef shabu-shabu. The set course meal included a variety of dishes such as appetizers, sashimi, grilled fish, and hot pot. The beef shabu-shabu was satisfying with a decent amount of meat per person and good quality. Overall, the food served at this ryokan was quite good.

Located in Arashiyama Nakano Shimomachi, Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto, this onsen ryokan offers traditional Kyoto cuisine. The nearest station is Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Electric Railway Arashiyama Main Line, within walking distance, making it easy to find. Being a popular tourist spot, it is always crowded with visitors. The ryokan is situated near the Togetsukyo Bridge and has been a well-established inn since the Meiji era. The interior is made of Kitayama cedar, creating a unique and tranquil atmosphere. For lunch, they offer a buffet-style Kyoto cuisine, while dinner features a kaiseki meal using high-quality tofu and yuba. The Kyoto cuisine, made with seasonal ingredients, is unparalleled in taste. The dishes are not only visually appealing but also delicious.

It was a very nice location right next to the river. It was a little cold that day, so the hot tofu really warmed me up. It was very delicious!

I asked about the lunch during the company trip. The atmosphere is Japanese-style and calming. We had Kyoto Tamatebako, which was served in a stylish basket, giving a very Kyoto-like feel. It was a great restaurant.

It was a simple Japanese meal. I used it for lunch buffet. It was crowded as it was lunchtime, and we had to wait for a few groups. I had to change the time in the morning due to a change in our sightseeing plans, and they kindly accommodated us. The restaurant is located along the Hozugawa River, and the view was very nice, making it a relaxing place to eat.

You can enjoy delicious Kyoto obanzai dishes in the wonderful location of Arashiyama! As expected from a long-established ryokan, the taste is impeccable, and the thoughtfulness of the staff is also delightful.

I didn't know there was a hot spring in Arashiyama, Kyoto. The elegant inn was lovely and the food was quite delicious. Staying in Arashiyama and taking a leisurely stroll at night on the almost empty Togetsukyo Bridge and around the temples in the area made me feel luxurious. I had a great holiday. ❤
