★ In front of the Jidori croquette shop, there are delicious looking ayu and eel lined up. The Shizuoka-produced eel and skewered ayu with roe caught my eye, but I just had to order the croquette. It had a spicy seasoning and was very easy to eat. You could easily eat as many as you want. For me, it's a must-have food for food hopping. Thank you for the meal. It was incredibly delicious, as expected from a popular shop. I definitely want to try it again when I visit Arashiyama. ★ Saga Arashiyama Croquette uses the okara from Sagatofu Morika, so it's very healthy. It also has vegetables in it, so it might be better for women compared to croquettes with more meat. The triangular shape is cute. It might even be zero calories if you eat while walking around (laughs). I recommend the croquette with plenty of okara and vegetables. Thank you for the meal. Nowadays, croquettes are becoming more famous than eel or ayu. That's because Arashiyama Tanaka is a shop frequented by Michelin-starred restaurants. Arashiyama Tanaka is a shop loved by locals, located right next to JR Saga Arashiyama Station. It sells local Kyoto ingredients such as local chicken, duck, river fish, and softshell turtle, which are used in high-end Kyoto restaurants. The actual store located near Saga Arashiyama Station is popular for its deli dishes made with Kyoto ingredients. It is famous for eel, but the deli dishes are also quite good. There are also photos and autographs of famous people on the walls and in the kitchen. For more details about Arashiyama Tanaka, visit → https://sayakahime2023.fc2.net/blog-entry-301.html

After shopping at Morika, I found this store on the way from Saga-Arashiyama Station to Arashiyama Station. It seems like a deli shop that sells dishes such as sweet simmered child-bearing ayu, mackerel simmered in ginger, grilled ayu, croquettes, and side dishes. Let's buy something for tonight's dinner! ☆ Chicken croquette for 100 yen. Inside, there is minced chicken meat with potatoes and onions. The ratio of minced meat to potatoes is about 7:3, so it's more like a minced meat cutlet than a croquette. I thought it would be light because it's chicken meat, but it was seasoned well and delicious! Unfortunately, they were sold out on the day I visited, but it seemed like they were grilling salt-grilled ayu at the storefront. If they had that, I would have bought it along with a craft beer from Saga-Arashiyama Station. Oh well, I'll save that for next time!

Arashiyama Tanaka (Tanaka Shoten) is located in Imahori-cho, Tenryuji, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City, near JR Saga-Arashiyama Station on the Saga Line. It is a place I have always wanted to visit. You can buy items that are already fried, but if you order, you will get freshly fried ones after waiting for about 10 minutes. The walls of the shop and the kitchen are decorated with photos and autographs of many famous people who have visited. There are red benches where you can eat right away. Some recognizable autographs include those of Izumi Pinko, En Hiroshi, Minami Kazuho, Mita Kunihiko, Miyagawa Daisuke, Ohtomo Yasuhei, En Hiroshi, Nishikawa Kiyoshi, and Yamaguchi Tomomitsu. I ordered the local chicken croquette (minced chicken) and waited for about 10 minutes outside the shop. It was so hot that I almost dropped it, but it was crispy on the outside and had large chunks of potatoes inside, which were moist and delicious. It was not as heavy as beef croquettes, and I enjoyed it very much. I also wanted to try the Saga-no-Korokke (made from okara) at that time, but I had plans to eat lunch soon after, so I resisted the temptation. However, I regretted not buying it later. Check out my blog "Eternal Rose" for more photos not featured on Tabelog. Thank you for reading.

[Visit on May 2, 2019] The place is located about a 1-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station. Around 2 p.m., I couldn't help but stop by the shop. They had grilled ayu (sweetfish) and other items displayed outside. I bought a croquette for 90 yen, thinking it must be delicious. It's perfect for eating on the go. The taste is simple and nostalgic. Besides ayu and croquettes, they had various other items, so it's nice to stop by while exploring Arashiyama. Thank you for the meal.

Returning to the Kyoto review. In December, I enjoyed a food tour in Kyoto, starting with a stroll through Nishiki Market, known as Kyoto's kitchen. After that, I headed to Arashiyama to ride the Sagano Scenic Railway. I purchased tickets on the day and had some time to spare before the train departure, so I decided to explore the food scene in Arashiyama. My first stop was a meat shop called Arashiyama Tanaka, where they sell croquettes and fried items like minced cutlets and shrimp cutlets. I tried their second most popular item, the Sagano Croquette, which is made with plenty of tofu for a healthy twist. It had a light and fluffy texture, making it a delightful snack for my food tour.

I had a delicious time trying out the minced chicken cutlet with Kujo green onions and the Sagano croquette with okara while walking and eating. The crispy freshly fried dishes were perfect for my hungry body! Definitely try the minced chicken cutlet!

I visited after reading a souvenir book. I tried the smoked duck and ordered one chicken croquette, which seemed to be popular. I chose while eating the croquette. It was 800 yen for 100 grams of smoked duck. The flavor was rich and very delicious. It would make a great souvenir.

I stopped by on my way back from the Den-den Palace at the Kukurinji Temple in Arashiyama. It's near the Arashiyama Station. Grilled ayu fish may be common, but I saw something new called "anago hachimaki" and decided to try it. It was a roll of burdock root wrapped with eel. It was interesting and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited "Sagano Yu" but it was full so I went to "Tanaka" across the street and tried their "Jidori Croquette". It was a bonus episode of my Kyoto touring with Mimi-chan! The store had delicious side dishes and live sales of grilled ayu fish. I wish I had some alcohol with me. The "Jidori Croquette" had a firm texture with minced chicken inside, which was different from the usual beef mince. The chicken meat was firm and had a nice texture, making it a satisfying croquette. Delicious! Thank you for the meal.

"Chicken Croquette 80 yen" Tanaka's special croquette made with minced chicken. It has a delicious flavor with plenty of fluffy potatoes and minced chicken meat. The crispy texture makes it enjoyable even without sauce. Perfect for eating on the go!

This summer, I visited Arashiyama for the third time. I went to the pre-art exhibition, took a boat ride on the Hozugawa River, and also visited the post-art exhibition. On my way to the boat ride, I stopped by a shop that sells fried food. I was intrigued by the eel kabayaki displayed at the storefront. The eel is sourced from Shizuoka Prefecture. I decided to buy the largest one, as I thought one per person would be too much. I also bought a pack of carp sashimi, a sweet simmered ayu as a complimentary item, and a vacuum-packed conger eel. When I got home, I found the eel to be huge and just fitting in my gas grill. I enjoyed the carp sashimi while warming up the eel. The carp sashimi was surprisingly large and delicious. The next day, I had the sweet simmered ayu and conger eel for dinner. The conger eel was incredibly delicious, much better than I had expected. It was soft, refreshing, and had a subtle sweetness. The sweet simmered ayu, despite being a slightly damaged item, was still delicious. The shop also offers other items like chicken skin stew and smoked local chicken, which I found enviable. The prices were as follows: Eel (depending on size) 3700 yen, Carp sashimi 450 yen, Conger eel 520 yen, Sweet simmered ayu (originally 700 yen) 500 yen.

I took a ride on a trolley train to Kameyama and wanted to buy something to eat, but unfortunately, eating and drinking are not allowed on the trolley. So, I waited until I got off the train and enjoyed the minced chicken and fried chicken I bought near the boat dock for the Hozugawa River cruise. It was a bit cold by then, but the green onions added a nice touch to the flavor. The fried chicken was also quite spicy. Another day, I tried the river fish dishes. The large grilled eel was excellent, and the carp simmered in sweet sauce was surprisingly delicious for only 450 yen. The conger eel wrapped in egg and the sweet-simmered child-bearing sweetfish were also outstanding. This restaurant is perfect for everyday dining. It's amazing to have such great restaurants in ordinary neighborhoods in Kyoto.

I went to Arashiyama and took a trolley train and a boat ride down the Hozu River. I didn't expect to go back to Arashiyama just 10 days after my last visit. I stopped by a shop near the Torokko Saga Station to do some shopping. They sold river fish, chicken, and fried foods. They also had eel, sweetfish, and carp on the menu. It's a convenient shop if you live nearby! While waiting for my fried food order, a local elderly lady came in to shop. Since the trolley was about to depart, I took my food with me and enjoyed it by the riverbank in Kameoka while waiting for the boat ride down the Hozu River. It got all steamy and soggy, but the minced local chicken was delicious. It had some Kyoto green onions mixed in, was well-seasoned, and even though the breading got soggy from the steam, the inside was tasty. I would love to eat it again in its best condition. Local chicken minced cutlet for 220 yen.

I happened to pass by and visit, tried various sweet treats, but what caught my eye was the Kyujyo Negi (Japanese green onion) ground chicken cutlet. The TV crew was there for an interview. The cutlet was freshly fried, and I waited for 10 minutes. It was not overly meaty, and the Kyujyo Negi added sweetness and umami to the dish. I was glad I tried it.
