On Tanuki Koji Street, there is a Taiwanese tapioca milk tea shop with branches nationwide, including one in Sapporo. Despite the trend fading, there seems to still be a steady demand. On this day, the intended shop on Tanuki Koji was unexpectedly closed, so we decided to stop by the market and my companion was thirsty. We purchased the popular "Black Sugar Bubble Milk (L) (760 yen)" - a large tapioca soaked in black sugar syrup and milk. It was simply delicious. It's great for getting both sugar and hydration on a hot day. I personally don't plan to buy it myself in the future, but my wife likes it so I might occasionally take a sip when she buys it.

On a holiday morning, I wandered around the city and ended up at Tanukikoji 1-chome upon my wife's request for something to drink. We visited "Tanshunju Sapporo Tanukikoji Store," a shop that seems to be trying its best despite the declining popularity of tapioca. Inside, there were two female staff members. I ordered a "Blue Lagoon @600" and waited about 4 minutes for it to be served. The drink, made with butterfly pea, changed color when mixed. It had a mild sweetness, a faint acidity from muscat, and a refreshing soda base, making it perfect for the hot summer season. Despite tapioca's decline in popularity, the shop still had some customers coming in, showing that there is still demand. The location is perfect for a break during a walk around Tanukikoji, and I will visit occasionally. Thank you for the meal.

There is a tapioca shop on Tanuki Koji 1-chome. Originally, there was a Sasebo Burger shop here. They jumped on the tapioca boom just before the pandemic hit and opened this shop. There used to be long lines during the boom, but now it's much easier to purchase without waiting. Due to COVID-19 prevention measures, they are currently open until 8 pm. I managed to make it just in time after work. There was a couple in front of me. The interior of the shop is stylish, and they also offer seating for dining in. I chose the most popular item, the Large Black Sugar Bubble Milk for 680 yen. The sweetness level and ice amount cannot be adjusted. The ample black sugar mixed with milk creates a perfect contrast of black and white. The thick straw sucks up the drink, bringing out the rich sweetness of the black sugar at the bottom of the cup. The chewy black tapioca pearls are from Taiwan. Mixing the drink well inside the cup creates a delicious blend of black sugar and milk.

I received a drink with amber. It's a lovely flavored tea with a hint of orange. Every time I drink it, a sweet citrusy aroma fills my nostrils. This shop is famous for its tapioca drinks, but I'm not really into tapioca so I ordered this instead, and it was the right choice. The drink without tapioca is also delicious, it's a traditional drink shop. It has thick slices of orange in it, which makes it look refreshing, and it's nice to eat the fruit after finishing the drink. I will definitely come back for this. It was really a delightful taste.

I chose the jelly topping with a Twitter follow and retweet promotion. I got the black sugar bubble milk tea. The black sugar flavor was strong and sweet. The tapioca pearls were small but soft and chewy. However, because they were small, they got lost in the ice and became hard to suck up once the liquid was gone. Then, a young couple came and ordered the same drink, but they asked for it to be shaken 13 times. Why didn't they tell me that? Did I look like a tapioca expert? Also, there was a light on the counter, and when you put the tapioca on it, it looked beautiful! I wish I had chosen strawberry and put it on the light. I want to try it next time! Thank you for the meal.

Craving for tapioca, I went to a popular store on the first floor of Akapura, but was deterred by a line of about 30 people. So, I decided to visit "Tatsu Kyouju" which opened at the former location of "Sasebo Burger" in Tanukikoji 1-chome. There was only one group of customers ahead of me, so it was quite peaceful. I ordered a "Black Sugar Bubble Milk (M) @540 (including 8% tax)" and was told to mix it 13 times when I received it. The tapioca was slightly warm, soft, and slightly on the larger side, making it a bit difficult to suck up. The black sugar was quite sweet but not overwhelming, with a delicious taste that seeped into my body. The tapioca boom continues with new stores opening even at this time of year. Next, I will try the most popular tapioca in Sapporo, "Gong Cha" at Akapura. Thank you for the meal.

I had lunch and on my way home, I suddenly felt like having tapioca drink after a long time. I decided to stop by and give it a try. Surprisingly, there were no customers today! The atmosphere was welcoming even for a man alone. I took my time looking at the menu and asked the staff for a drink with less sweetness. They told me I could choose the sweetness level myself! Today, I ordered a Royal Condensed Milk Tea (large size) with less sugar and normal amount of ice. It was ready in no time. I just took a picture and got it to go. I chilled it thoroughly at home and enjoyed it. The reduced sweetness allowed the tea's bitterness to blend well with the milk, making it delicious. Chilling the tapioca once in the fridge can help reduce the sweetness, making it a more grown-up tapioca drink. It was especially tasty today because of the heat.

"Tatsunokashu Sapporo Tanukikoji Store" on this holiday. After having lunch nearby, my daughter wanted to have dessert, so we decided to stop by for some tapioca since she kept mentioning it! When the store first opened, there used to be long lines, but in these times... we were able to buy without waiting. The tapioca menu had various options and toppings to choose from. Since I didn't really understand the menu, I left the order up to my daughter! We ordered: - "Black Sugar Bubble Milk, size M @540 yen" - "Tapioca Strawberry Milk Tea, size M @630 yen" I don't usually order tapioca for myself, but the sweet yet guilt-free healthy sweetness of the black sugar and the chewy texture of the large tapioca pearls from Taiwan made it taste really good! The price of around 500-600 yen per cup may seem a bit high, but when you think about it, a glass of beer costs about the same, and once you start drinking alcohol, you end up having more than one, so in that sense, it may not be that expensive after all. The store also had photo spots for Instagram-worthy shots, making it a hit with girls. I'm not sure how it compares to tapioca from other stores, but my daughter was very happy, so I thought it was worth it once in a while. It was a delicious meal! Thank you!"

Sapporo Tanukikoji is a tapioca shop located on the east side of the first block, near the Sosei River. The shop is small and not particularly spacious. It seems to be a chain store. This time, I ordered a large size black sugar bubble milk. It was the type where the tapioca and black sugar syrup were at the bottom, and milk was on top. They recommended mixing it before drinking, even though it was a bit difficult to mix. The drink was quite sweet, but I enjoyed the tapioca which had a good chewy texture. By the time I finished the large size, I was quite full (laughs). I would like to visit again if I pass by the area.

On a certain weekday during a challenging period in Hokkaido, I stumbled upon a tapioca shop on Tanukikoji 1-chome while out for a walk. It was located next to a famous curry restaurant and had a simple interior with a narrow counter and stools with vinyl sheets. I decided to try something unique from the menu and ordered the "Kaokaugerii M (580 yen)." I enjoyed it on a bench by the Sorasegawa River. The jelly had a strong black sugar flavor, and the tapioca and fine ice added a nice texture. I found myself quickly finishing the milk, struggling to suck up the jelly and tapioca. Each component was delicious. However, I became self-conscious about the noise I was making while sucking up the drink, considering the current situation. It was a bit embarrassing. Thank you for the meal.

On my way back from shopping, I discovered a new tapioca shop where a hamburger shop used to be. As I was about to peek inside the store, the owner approached me and recommended their signature black sugar bubble milk. Feeling tired from walking, I decided to purchase it for my 3 o'clock tea time. Since the store was filled with young women and couples, I felt embarrassed and opted for a takeout. I enjoyed the drink comfortably at home, savoring the tapioca cooked slowly in black sugar, mixed with black sugar syrup and locally sourced milk. It was delicious and perfect for an Instagram-worthy photo, especially when freshly purchased. Although it got a bit mixed up on the way home, it turned out to be just fine. I will definitely purchase it again when I feel tired. It was delicious.

Finally, the shop is open! It was supposed to open around November last year, but it was delayed. I tried the Black Sugar Bubble Milk for 540 yen, which is their recommended drink. It has a rich sweetness without being too overpowering, and it tastes delicious. There is another tapioca drink shop on the other side of Souseigawa, so you can compare the drinks from both places.
