It was a shop bustling with foreign tourists as it is a popular tourist spot. The croquettes were priced in the 200 yen range and since I was a little hungry, I ended up buying one. Inside, there was a mix of potatoes, a little sukiyaki, and yuba, which was quite delicious. It's perfect for eating while walking around.

Even while on a low-carb diet, I explored the gourmet street food in Arashiyama ♪♪ Freshly fried tofu croquettes for only 150 yen - so cheap! (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))) Instead of potatoes, they use tofu for the filling to cut down on carbs and get some protein (*^^*) I had to overlook the coating (´∩ω∩`)(lol) Oh... this is good!! Delicious ♡ It would be even better if the coating was yuba!! lol. Posted on Instagram @kanae.0402 in the Stories Archive for gourmet recommendations ♡

[2021.11.28] Started the day in Kyoto. Visited Katsura Imperial Villa (Imperial Household Agency). Around noon, arrived in Arashiyama. Bought croquettes. They were delicious!
Ordered the Yuba Croquette (or something like that) for 150 yen including tax. Thank you for the meal!

I walked around Arashiyama in Sagano and bought one piece at a store. I shared it with a friend. It was minced fish wrapped in yuba with cheese inside. The yuba was crispy, but quite oily. There was too little cheese. The sign at the store said "melty cheese," but it wasn't really... I wanted more cheese. The taste of the minced fish and yuba's oil was a bit strong. It wasn't bad as food, but if it's called "yuba cheese," I wanted more cheese flavor. Well, it's a tourist spot. It's Kyoto. So, it's to be expected. But the combination wasn't bad.

I was drawn to the line because everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. The processed fish cakes are good. It's quite oily, maybe I overdid it with two pieces. The yuba cheese had a softer texture than I expected, maybe the oil wasn't drained properly. The cheese and surimi combination is delicious. The shrimp and onion dish has a nice balance of flavors between the fragrant shrimp and generous amount of onions. It's also very tasty. If you're planning to eat out, wet wipes are a must.

12:48 I was relieved to see that "Hanawa" in Arashiyama, which had been closed due to the large flood, has reopened safely. While blessed with natural beauty attracting tourists, occasional reprimands from nature are unavoidable. Currently, efforts are being made for recovery in Kumamoto and Oita, Kyushu, after the earthquake. The weather is getting warmer and approaching the rainy season. It is urgent to secure places for people to sleep safely, especially in temporary shelters. My hometown experienced flooding with water reaching 80cm high, destroying all tatami mats and electrical appliances. However, the house remained standing and is still habitable. Comparatively, many of the current victims are facing more dire situations. Whenever I see donation requests on the streets, I contribute within my means. After confirming the revival of Arashiyama, I stumbled upon "Melting Yuba Cheese" and couldn't resist trying it. It was tempura (deep-fried fish cakes) topped with cheese and wrapped in yuba (tofu skin). I enjoyed it while leisurely strolling around.

We had lunch on the second floor as a group. The lunch included tempura, tofu hot pot, rice, and other small dishes like hamo, nama-fu, and warabi mochi. There was a variety of one-bite items that we wanted to try when visiting Kyoto. The hot pot with tofu in the broth was very delicious.

I ordered yuba cheese. It was like chikuwa cheese. When I tried to eat it, the skewer stick was very hot.

In Arashiyama, I tried the Yuba Cheese skewer that caught my eye✨ It's like a hanpen with cheese inside, wrapped in yuba! It was freshly fried and piping hot! The yuba was crispy and the hanpen was soft and chewy, very delicious♪ Perfect for a foodie stroll! 🚶♀️

Enjoy a casual takeout menu at Yorimaya, a long-established tofu and yuba (tofu skin) restaurant in Arashiyama. One of the pleasures of Kyoto sightseeing is food tasting. It's wonderful that a long-established restaurant offers that. The ladies chose Yuba Cheese from Yorimaya, which uses yuba. As for me, given the menu options, I reluctantly went for the Squid and Chive Red Tempura. Tempura tends to be oily no matter where you eat it, so I also chose a can of Kin no Hoshi to go with it. The Squid and Chive Red Tempura has a chewy texture and a subtle hint of spiciness, perhaps due to Kyoto's refined taste. The delicious flavor of the squid stands out in the tempura. The slight oiliness is taken care of by the Kin no Hoshi. The Knot Red Tempura has a crispy texture and a pleasant aroma. This might be easier to eat without worrying about the oil. It's very delicious. The view from Togetsukyo Bridge is also excellent. During the holiday season, various famous spots are holding special events. Kyoto never gets boring no matter how many times you visit.

I went to Arashiyama with my son. It was a quiet time of year, but there were a lot of people, which was surprising. Even though I'm a local from mafu's family, it was my son's first time riding a train and he was excited. It had been a while since I had been in tourist mode, so it was nice to enjoy it a bit. The food was quite delicious, especially the octopus! It was a bit expensive, but it was like a fancy version of fish cake (laughs). It would have been even better with a beer. Definitely better than buying fried chicken at Lawson. I don't know about the croquettes nearby.

My son recommended the Yuba Sukiyaki Croquette. He said he wanted to eat it again when we go to Arashiyama! So, despite the odd combination of soft serve ice cream and croquettes, we decided to go on a food adventure while exploring Arashiyama. The shop we were looking for was easy to find, but there was quite a line. It's no wonder, it's the busy year-end season after all. The recommended croquette had Yuba Sukiyaki inside. They gave us freshly fried croquettes in a bag. The crispy coating, slightly sweet croquette dough, and the aroma of Yuba were indeed delicious! If I wasn't so full, I would have wanted to try other varieties too.

Grandma wanted to go see the lantern floating event in Arashiyama, so we decided to go. I realized I had never seen it before, so I was curious. I thought the road to Arashiyama would be really crowded, but surprisingly we arrived easily and found parking quickly. We secured a spot on a bench and decided to grab a bite to eat. We came across a dish called "yuba cheese" and decided to try it. It was like a crispy outer layer filled with creamy cheese and wrapped in yuba before being fried. We then went to a nearby traditional Japanese restaurant and enjoyed the dish. The yuba cheese had a crunchy texture and the combination of flavors was quite good. It felt like a snack perfect for enjoying with a beer. Overall, it was a unique and tasty experience.

After visiting the beloved Suzumushi Temple, we headed to Arashiyama. We enjoyed the trolley ride and then got off at the Torokko Arashiyama Station, walked through the bamboo forest, and explored the souvenir shops and eateries near the Togetsukyo Bridge. We had a late lunch, or rather an early dinner, around 4 PM. We decided to try this ramen shop at that time. We bought our meal tickets and sat at the counter. The staff seemed unfriendly and unenthusiastic. The cooking process seemed slow and lazy, using frozen Chinese noodles. The Kyoto Ramen we ordered arrived, with a black soup base similar to the trendy Toyama Black Ramen. Despite the frozen noodles, they had a good texture. The soup was surprisingly delicious. However, the lackadaisical attitude of the staff was disappointing. The cook even turned his back to us while cleaning up, showing a lack of interest. Even my patient wife was taken aback by their behavior. The couple of foreigners who came in after us also received cold treatment. It seems like the staff member was more focused on his love for horumon (offal) than on serving customers. It's clear that this person lacks basic hospitality skills, which is essential in the service industry. Despite the beautiful location, the poor service left a bad impression. Thank you for the meal.

I went to "Arashiyama Hanatouro" on December 12, 2015. I had ramen in the Kita district and suddenly decided to go to Arashiyama because I had some time. It had been a long time since I last visited Arashiyama, and I was surprised by how much it had changed. I had always thought of it as a quiet area with old shops, but it seemed different now. I guess tourists know more about this area than I do, even though I've been living in Kyoto for decades. Despite being at night, there were a lot of people at the Hanatouro event. I walked along the illuminated path and explored the area, which I don't usually do at night. Some shops were open until around 8 pm to coincide with temple visits. The Hanatouro event itself ends with all the lights turning off at 8:30 pm, so you need to be careful. I visited "Yoshiya," also known as Yoshiya Honten. It is located near the Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama. There are three large parking lots near the bridge, but this one is the farthest from the bridge. The parking fee for a regular car was 1000 yen for the whole day. I tried their tofu croquette for 100 yen and their yuba suki croquette for 150 yen. It was nice to have them freshly fried and hot. It takes a bit of time, but they were quite delicious and healthy, with a high level of chicken meat and tofu. I thought they would be great for bento boxes before frying. The yuba croquette had a distinct taste of yuba and sukiyaki, complementing each other well. It was also delicious. The quality of food in this area for eating on the go is something that makes local Kyoto residents like me happy. Thank you for the meal.

The fried cheese yuba tempura looks delicious! My companion mentioned it twice, so I knew I had to try it. I also ordered a beer and the shrimp mayo tempura. When it was time to pay, I was handed the beer and headed towards the empty restaurant. However, I was told I couldn't enter because of the pouring rain. I had to enjoy my food and drink under the eaves. If I had known, I wouldn't have ordered the beer. The shrimp mayo tempura was okay, but the cheese yuba tempura was really tasty. I would buy it as a souvenir if they had it. The restaurant only had customers who ordered udon or other dishes. Despite being one of the first customers, I was surprised by this treatment.
