This is my second visit. Last summer, my friend and I stumbled upon this shop in the shopping street because it was so hot and we decided to give it a try. We don't usually choose matcha desserts, but since it was a tea shop, we ordered without much expectation. With just one bite, we both exclaimed, "Matcha shaved ice is this delicious?!" It came with Uji milk, sweet potato, and white rice cakes for 650 yen. Uji ice is only 500 yen, which is a reasonable price. We thought maybe we found it delicious because we were tired from the heat at that time, but a year later, we visited again with my friend. We were in perfect condition, but it was still delicious.

There is a café located behind a tea shop on Fushimi Otesuji. This type of café may be rare in this area. There are several table seats, and people of various ages visit. This time, I ordered a matcha parfait. It was carefully made with jelly, shiratama dumplings, matcha ice cream, and other ingredients. The menu price listed on the website seems to be from some time ago. The matcha parfait is now priced at 750 yen, a 50 yen increase. Either way, this taste at this price is on the cheaper side. Payment at the café corner is cash only.

Located in the bustling arcade street, Charyo Aburanao offers tea sales and a cafe corner. I was aware of their popular matcha soft serve and matcha green tea, which I often enjoyed during breaks at other stores. I had seen a local TV program featuring Uji Junmai Sake Shaved Ice before and had wanted to try it, but it seemed to be a limited-time offering, so I missed out last year. Today, despite initially planning to have cold noodles, the heat drew me in to visit. I ended up ordering the Uji Junmai Sake Shaved Ice with shiratama and red bean, as well as the matcha porridge with sesame. The prices as of June 2023 (including tax) were 750 yen for the Uji Junmai Sake Shaved Ice and 600 yen for the matcha porridge (sesame). The shaved ice is served with separate Uji Junmai Sake syrup, and it starts melting quickly, so it's best to quickly drizzle the syrup and start eating. The fluffy shaved ice has a pleasant mouthfeel, and the Uji Junmai Sake syrup has a green tea-like flavor without a strong alcohol scent. The subtle sweetness and bitterness are enjoyable, and the Uji Junmai Sake and ice alone are delicious. The chewy shiratama and subtly sweet red bean add a touch of luxury to the experience. I would have liked to savor it slowly, but I finished it before the ice melted completely. If they had the cocktail "Shoyo Jyurin" available, it would have been perfect. After the cold shaved ice, the matcha porridge was served. You can choose from plum, salt, or sesame flavor, and I chose sesame this time, though plum or salt might have been better. The matcha porridge is lightly flavored, almost tasteless, allowing you to enjoy the aroma. It's made by blending matcha and tencha. The one-bite-size grilled mochi with white sesame topping can be added for 50 yen per piece. It comes with salted kelp and roasted green tea, which complement the porridge well. Eating the porridge mindfully creates a solemn atmosphere. Overall, if you don't enjoy the subtle flavors of tea porridge, it may not be to your taste, but sometimes a simple porridge can be quite satisfying. I enjoyed the Uji Junmai Sake Shaved Ice and matcha porridge. The store also displays and sells various tea utensils, and it seems like it would be fun to prepare and enjoy tea with guests in the tea room, but personally, I find it a bit formal.

Inside the tea house, there are various other sweets available, but if you're looking for something a little sweet, you can get a matcha soft serve ice cream to go for 250 yen. There is a small bench in front of the shop where you can take a little break, which is quite nice.

I went to "Saryo Aburanaga" in Fushimi shopping street. It was a bit hard to find as it's located at the back of a tea shop, but they had some sweets made with tea. The matcha roll cake had a hint of sake lees, maybe because it's in Fushimi. Most of the customers seemed to be locals, with many elderly people.

Matcha roll cake set for 750 yen. The whipped cream had a fragrant taste of Fushimi local sake, even though it wasn't mentioned on the menu. It was delicious. The cafe only accepts cash, unlike the neighboring shops that accept PayPay and cards. Also, my friend found it amusing that while coffee and tea are written without the honorific "o," matcha is written as "o-matcha." That's Kyoto for you!

I tried the recommended matcha roll cake from a popular shop in Fushimi Ward. I paired it with coffee and found it not too sweet as I had feared. The cake was fluffy and it is said to be left overnight before serving to prevent it from falling apart easily. They also offer a set with matcha.

Around 11 o'clock, two of us visited "Saryo Abura-cho" located in the Fushimi Otesuji shopping street, right near the Keihan Fushimi Momoyama Station and Kintetsu Momoyama Otokoyama-mae Station. I believe it is operated by the same parent company as "Ginjo Sakaba Abura-cho" located in the same shopping street. The sakaba offers a "Kakudachi" where you can try sake from 18 Fushimi breweries. The saryo, on the other hand, is an eat-in space at the back of the store that handles Uji tea and tea utensils. The space is adorned with red Japanese umbrellas and has table seating. Menu: - Kyoto-style Zenzai: 600 yen - Chestnut Zenzai: 700 yen - Cold Zenzai: 600 yen - Surprise Zenzai: 900 yen - Matcha Porridge: 600 yen - Red Bean Porridge: 650 yen - Matcha Roll Cake with Matcha Set: 750 yen - Hot Coffee: 450 yen - Hot Cafe au Lait: 550 yen - Cappuccino: 550 yen - Matcha Latte: 550 yen - Amazake: 500 yen - Special Green Tea: 400 yen - Milk Green Tea: 500 yen - Green Tea Float: 500 yen Dishes Tried: - Matcha Roll Cake with Matcha Set: 750 yen The matcha roll cake had a mild sweetness with matcha infused into the dough. It was a delightful dish with a noticeable matcha flavor. - Kyoto-style Zenzai: 600 yen It contained grilled rice cakes and came with a side of tsukudani. The saltiness enhanced the sweetness, just as they say. It was really true. Overall, the restaurant is somewhat hidden inside the store and may not be easily visible from the outside. Look out for the sign of the saryo so you don't miss it. It was a delightful meal. #Gourmet #KyotoGourmet #FushimiGourmet #JapaneseSweets #MatchaRoll #RollCake #Zenzai #Abura-cho

When you go deep into the back of the tea shop, you will find a hidden tea room. Despite its secretive nature, it is surprisingly bustling with customers of older age groups! I ordered the long-awaited "Uji Ginjo Sake Kakigori" for 650 yen. It came with a pure white shaved ice and a glass of chilled Japanese sake with matcha syrup. Pouring it myself, I took a sip and was amazed! At first, a refreshing sensation passed through me, like a "zing!" It was probably the high-grade sake! Then, a rich flavor followed by a lingering matcha taste reached my taste buds. The taste kept changing with each bite, with the matcha sweetness being subtle and the overall flavor being sophisticated. It was my first time trying such a refreshing shaved ice! I'm glad I tried it, and I'll definitely want to have it again every summer. This summer, I encountered a fantastic shaved ice.

After finishing work, I immediately went to a nearby sweet shop. It was a cold day in Kyoto, with rain and a little snow falling. Despite the cold, I entered the shop and looked at the menu. The shop had a tea room at the back, so I thought maybe matcha desserts would be recommended. I considered getting matcha soft serve, but as a reward for finishing work, I ordered a matcha parfait and sweet red bean soup to share. The matcha soft serve had two matcha ice creams and one vanilla ice cream, topped with chestnuts. Inside the parfait, there were chestnuts and white dumplings. The matcha ice cream was decent, with matcha sprinkled on the flakes at the bottom. However, it didn't quite meet my high expectations. The sweet red bean soup had a slightly firm texture, with not too sweet red beans and grilled mochi. I realized after ordering that they also had a "surprise sweet red bean soup" on the menu, which piqued my interest. Overall, the flavors were satisfactory.

I visited around 12:40 on Sunday. There was one group of customers already there. The interior of the shop is clean and bright, with natural light coming in from ceiling windows. I tried the matcha roll cake for 400 yen. The large roll cake was impressive. The fragrant bitter matcha powder stood out, but the generous amount of whipped cream balanced it out, creating a well-balanced dessert. As someone who can sometimes feel a bit sick from too much cream, I appreciated the sense of security from the whipped cream, but in terms of taste, I think I would have preferred more of the cream.

Feeling tired from walking, I found a place where I could have some tea. I decided to go to a tea shop located in a shopping street, which had a cozy café space in the back. It was not crowded, quiet, and felt safe. The high ceiling and the peaceful atmosphere were exactly what I needed. The tea quality was excellent, as expected from a tea shop, and the sweets were delicious as well. The way they prepared the matcha was impressive. Overall, it was a great experience in a calm and serene environment.

Located a few minutes' walk from Fushimi-Momoyama Station or Fushimi-Oinarisha Station, this place is next to Aburano-san, a shop that offers sake tasting and sales. They sell tea ceremony utensils and tea at the storefront, have a sweets corner at the back, and provide umbrellas for outdoor tea ceremonies. The menu includes morning coffee and tea, warabi mochi, zenzai, soft serve ice cream, matcha porridge, and red bean porridge. You can enjoy a relaxing break with a matcha set, matcha roll, and delicious sweets. It seems like a nice place to rest your liver after visiting the breweries in Fushimi.

After having lunch at a Japanese restaurant, my friend and I decided that we wanted to eat something sweet. We had heard about a particular dessert place that my friend was interested in, so we called ahead to make sure they had what we wanted. It was a little past 2 PM when we arrived, and the place was just starting to fill up. We decided to try the sake-infused shaved ice that we had been curious about. Since we had just eaten lunch, we decided to share one between the two of us. We also added some green tea ice cream as a topping. The shaved ice was flavored with Uji Junmai sake (green tea + sake) and topped with green tea ice cream. The portion was surprisingly generous, especially the syrup. We were glad we decided to share one. The shaved ice itself didn't have much flavor, but when we added the syrup, the green tea flavor really came through. The sake was also a nice touch. I've had green tea liqueur before, but this was definitely better! There was plenty of syrup, so it was a bit strong on its own, but I liked it that way. I think it would be interesting to try mixing it with a light white wine (laughs). The green tea ice cream topping was even more delicious than we expected. I had always associated green tea with Uji, but this place's green tea flavor was really good. If I have the chance, I might come back here again.

I visited Teradaya, a place associated with Ryoma Sakamoto, after walking down Fushimizu Sake Brewery Alley. Then I went to Kappa Country at Yellow Cherry Blossom Brewery, where I learned about the process of making sake and bought my own bottle. The weather was nice, so after walking around a bit, I felt a bit dehydrated and decided to take a tea break with my friends. We found a nice cafe called Aburacho Tea Shop, where we ordered Uji shaved ice with vanilla ice cream topping. The shaved ice was delicate and didn't melt quickly, with a rich matcha flavor. The vanilla ice cream was sweet, and the matcha syrup had a nice bitterness to it. The cafe did not offer hot tea or hot water, so we left after finishing our shaved ice. Overall, it was a delicious treat on a hot day.

On a holiday afternoon, I went with my best friend and tried the Matcha Soft Serve. The soft serve itself has a low fat content and a light, smooth texture. This allows the rich flavor of matcha to come through well. The sweetness of matcha, gentle bitterness, and refreshing aftertaste are all noticeable. It's a perfect dessert for a light and refreshing finish after a meal. Located near Uji, in Fushimi Momoyama, the shopping street has several shops that specialize in tea. Oilenaga is one of them. Inside the shop, you can try various sweets made with matcha, but this time we opted for the soft serve available at the storefront. It's easy to eat and enjoyable.

Located in Fushimi Higashiotemachi, Kyoto, this specialty store offers Uji tea and tea utensils within the Otesuji shopping street. At the back, there is a café space where you can take a break and enjoy Uji tea or matcha roll cake. On this occasion, I tried the Uji Ginjo sake ice cream made with Fushimi's premium sake. The combination of matcha and Ginjo sake is exquisite and incredibly delicious! It's even better when eaten on a hot day, providing a cool down effect for the body. For those coming by car, please enjoy the non-alcoholic version.

Café located at the back of a tea shop with the scent of tea in the air. While many places in Kyoto charge over 1,000 yen for matcha parfaits or shaved ice, the sweets here are reasonably priced and delicious.
