Arashiyama was very crowded, so we quickly escaped to a less crowded restaurant. The menu had similar pricing for all items, so I ordered the Hanton Rice. I thought Hanton Rice was from Kanazawa, but it was still delicious! However, the cost performance was not the best... Well, it is a bustling tourist spot after all. Thank you for the meal!

This year's first shrine visit was at Nonomiya Shrine. I took the train to Arashiyama after a long time. During the first three days of the New Year, it was crowded with people. I decided to have a quick lunch at this restaurant right after getting off the Randen train. The restaurant seemed quite spacious. Despite it being the first three days of the New Year, we were seated immediately without having to wait. The menu consisted only of rice bowls, fitting for a place called "Arashidon." The prices were a bit high due to being a tourist spot, but within an acceptable range. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Bowl, while my husband ordered the Arashiyama Bowl. The food arrived quickly. The taste was neither good nor bad. The service felt a bit impersonal, maybe because they were busy. This restaurant was perfect for us who wanted a quick lunch without much waiting before sightseeing.

Arashidon is a restaurant located near Arashiyama Station, specializing in rice bowl dishes. I visited on a weekday lunchtime in December, when it was not too crowded due to the cold weather. The restaurant seemed to cater to tourists, with a spacious interior and a variety of table seating. The staff were friendly and the menu mainly consisted of seafood rice bowls, including the Sagano Bowl for 1500 yen. This bowl contained tofu, ikura, ginger, nori, and green onions, served with dashi soy sauce on the side. It was light and healthy, with a slightly sticky texture to the tofu and a crispy texture to the yuba. Overall, it was a simple and gentle dish that was reasonably priced for a tourist area. While I may not have the opportunity to visit again, I would be interested in trying their larger rice bowl dishes in the future.

My wife, daughter, and I took a trolley train in Arashiyama and got hungry, so we looked for a lunch spot. Everywhere had long lines, but when we looked at the line for the stairs leading to the second floor of a certain building, we noticed that there were two shops and one of them had no line. Inside, there were a few people waiting, but we were seated at a table after a short wait. My wife ordered the Arashiyama bowl, my daughter got the Negitoro bowl, and I noticed the Hanton rice, which I had never tried before, so I ordered that. The restaurant was quite crowded, and we waited about 10 minutes, but our dishes arrived. The Hanton rice was a first for me - it was like an omurice with white rice, demi-glace sauce, a white fish fry, and two shrimp fries topped with plenty of tartar sauce. It also came with miso soup and pickles. As for the taste, eating omurice with tartar sauce was surprisingly delicious. The tartar sauce was really tasty. The shrimp fries were a bit small, and the white fish fry was similar to frozen food you'd eat at home. Eating it with the demi-glace sauce and omurice was a bit lacking, but when eaten with the tartar sauce, white fish fry, and shrimp fry, it was delicious. The portion size was decent, but considering the price, it was a bit expensive. Maybe it's the price of a tourist spot? My wife and daughter also said the Arashiyama bowl and Negitoro bowl were delicious, but again, maybe it's the price of a tourist spot. Thank you for the meal.

In mid-November, I went to Kyoto to enjoy the autumn leaves and explore the city (including Nijo Castle, Myoshinji Temple, and Arashiyama). It was a weekday, so Nijo Castle and Myoshinji Temple were not too crowded, but Arashiyama was a different story. There were so many people there. I couldn't help but wonder how crowded it would be on the weekend... I ended up having a late lunch at this restaurant. It was located on the second floor of the commercial facility "Hannari Hokkori Square" at Arashiyama Station on the main street. Despite being on the main street, being on the second floor meant there was almost no line. However, there were about two groups waiting inside the restaurant. The menu mainly consisted of rice bowl dishes, as the name "Arashidon" suggests, and if you're not particular about Kyoto cuisine or yudofu, it's an easy place to eat. The restaurant had a surprisingly spacious interior with a capacity of over 100 seats. I was seated within about 5 minutes of entering, but I had to wait a bit because there were some empty seats around. The lunch menu had over 10 rice bowl options, such as Arashidon, Neba-Toro Don, Cajun Chicken Don, Seafood Don, Unagi Don, Sagano Don, Maguro Yukke Don, Salmon Yukke Don, Chicken Nanban Don, Pork Chop Rice, and oddly enough, Hanton Rice. Each rice bowl came with pickles and miso soup. I ordered the Arashidon (tofu, yuba, mizuna, ginger, ankake, kudzu) and Neba-Toro Don (tuna tataki, okra, nagaimo, natto, cucumber, quail egg, seaweed, wasabi). The rice bowls arrived quickly. The Arashidon was beautifully presented in a white porcelain bowl with two blocks of yuba and dried tofu arranged like noodles on top. The white bowl with thick ankake sauce, and the mizuna providing a colorful accent among the ingredients. It was a gentle and comforting flavor. The Neba-Toro Don was served in a large bowl with vibrant colors and intricate designs. My wife wasted no time mixing everything together and enjoying the rich and smooth texture. We shared both rice bowls and appreciated the difference in taste and texture. The prices were a bit high due to being in a tourist area, but that's the case for most restaurants there. On weekends, I imagine all restaurants in popular tourist spots would have long lines, but if you're not too picky, this spacious restaurant could be a hidden gem. Thank you for the delicious meal!

We happened to enter this restaurant in Arashiyama, Kyoto because it looked delicious. It's a restaurant mainly serving rice bowls, and we ordered the Arashiyama Don and Sagano Don. The Arashiyama Don is a delicious dish with Kyoto Arashiyama tofu, yuba, and dashi sauce, a taste that can only be experienced here in Arashiyama. The combination of tofu and fragrant yuba is irresistible. On the other hand, the Sagano Don features sashimi yuba from Toji Temple, combined with nori and soy sauce for a seafood flavor. The combination of fresh yuba, nori, and soy sauce was so impressive that we decided we will definitely come back. #ArashiyamaGourmet #KyotoArashiyamaArashiyamaDon #KyotoArashiyamaArashiyamaDon #KyotoArashiyamaSaganoDon #WillRepeat #Yuba #Tofu

I had lunch at a restaurant in Arashiyama, which was surprisingly crowded with cherry blossom viewers even on a regular day. Many restaurants were packed, but I chose this one which seemed less crowded. I wasn't expecting seafood in Arashiyama, but the meal was delicious and satisfying.

Kyoto Trip Record 2: During lunchtime in Arashiyama, all the streets were crowded, but we decided to eat here because it seemed relatively less busy. They had a wide variety of rice bowl dishes! Since it's a tourist spot, the prices are a bit high and it takes some time for the food to arrive, but the seafood bowl was luxurious with salmon, shrimp, salmon roe, tuna, scallops, and more! The interior of the restaurant had a wooden design which added to the atmosphere. The paper with a hand-drawn handball that was placed under the rice bowl was also cute. Overall, it had a touristy feel to it, but it was a good memory!

I visited Arashiyama for sightseeing and since it was crowded everywhere for lunch, I decided to go into this restaurant as they had available seats. I ordered the Yuba Bowl without hesitation. As a side menu, I also ordered some fried chicken. The restaurant was spacious and many tourists were dining there. It was my first time trying Yuba Bowl, and it was delicious.

After seeing the bamboo forest in Arashiyama in November 2020, we decided to have lunch somewhere, but everywhere was packed with people due to the Go To Travel campaign. Every restaurant was full, with long lines, and some even closed early due to the crowds. When we arrived at Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad, we saw that the stairs leading up to the station building were empty, so we quickly decided to go up there. It was great! The restaurant was very spacious with plenty of seating and good spacing between tables. The front side had large glass windows with a nice view. It was very relaxing. The donburi was delicious, and I was relieved to find a place that wasn't crowded. The Arashiyama donburi, made with yuba and oboro tofu, seemed to be popular with women. They also had a variety of tuna-based seafood donburi. I ordered the unusual Cajun grilled chicken donburi, which was incredibly tasty! It had a Jamaican jerk chicken flavor that was addictive. It felt like being in Jamaica while in Arashiyama. I'm already thinking about going back just for this dish. Despite being a bit busy, this place has a lot of seating and only serves donburi, so the turnover is quick. I recommend it as there are seats available soon. On the way out, we received tickets to go to the rooftop. The rooftop offers a 360-degree panorama view of Kyoto city. There is also a cafe and a sweets shop on the first floor near the station, which was a nice touch.

The base for exploring Arashiyama is the area around the Randen Arashiyama Station. There is a donburi restaurant on the second floor of the Han'nari Square commercial facility. It has a decently stylish interior with many tables, suitable for a tourist spot. Since it serves donburi, the wait time is short and the turnover seems good. This fits well with the bustling tourist area. However, the menu lacks a sense of Kyoto. Seafood donburi... So I decided to order the "Arashiyama Donburi" that seemed more Kyoto-like. It was a donburi with simmered yuba, grated tofu, nori, and fragrant ginger sauce. The taste is gentle on the body, but at 1580 yen including tax, it's a bit too expensive.

On the second day of the trip, the daughters explored Kyoto in rented kimonos, attracting a lot of attention at Fushimi Inari Taisha and having a smoother time at Arashiyama. They eventually got hungry and decided to try some Kyoto-style dishes at a local restaurant. The prices were a bit high due to it being a tourist area, with the most affordable option being the chicken nanban bowl at around 1300 yen. The food was decent but not exceptional, with the daughters enjoying their Arashiyama bowls more. Overall, the meal was okay, but they felt they could have tried something more unique to Kyoto, like soba noodles.

I like yuba and tofu dishes, so it was delicious. I arrived around 3:00 PM, but the staff didn't notice me because they were busy cleaning up after lunch. I tried calling out, but they were deep in wiping the tables, so I thought it would be nice if they had a bell or something to get their attention.

I went to Arashiyama to buy souvenirs before heading out of town. I usually just quickly shop by myself and head back home, but this time my eldest daughter was with me and said she was hungry, so we stopped at a nearby restaurant. I wasn't expecting much, but the experience was terrible. The place was filled with tourists, and the food didn't live up to the standards of Kyoto or Japan. The service was also extremely poor. It was disappointing in every aspect. The fried chicken we ordered seemed like it was just made in a karaoke box. It was so fresh that it was almost surprising!

13-tiered bowl series Kyoto edition A retro-modern Japanese-style bowl restaurant located in Arashiyama, just a 1-2 minute walk from Arashiyama Station. Arashiyama is a place where you can be overwhelmed by nature, making it a rewarding sightseeing spot for walking around and eating. Since I hadn't eaten anything yet, I was looking for a place to eat while sightseeing, and that's when I found this restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is spacious, with tables as the main seating option. I ordered the tuna yukhoe bowl and hanpen. The tuna yukhoe bowl didn't have a strong punch, and the seasoning was on the lighter side, which was okay. The hanpen had a nice texture and seemed like it would go well with sake. They also had a good selection of souvenirs, so it might be worth buying something from Arashiyama.

We used this restaurant during our school trip. The area around Arashiyama was crowded and everywhere was full, so we ended up at this restaurant. It's not bad. Luckily, there is an entrance on the second floor which is a bit hard to find.

During the peak season of autumn leaves, Arashiyama was very crowded on weekends. We only had to wait for about 10 minutes to get a table. The taste was okay, nothing special. However, the food came out quickly. The staff were fast and polite. In a busy tourist spot, a restaurant with quick turnover is great.
