Located a 16-minute walk from Eizan Electric Railway Kibuneguchi Station, this restaurant has a parking lot (for about 6 cars). Despite being a long-established restaurant with over 100 years of history in Kibune, they have incorporated the needs of the times by offering both riverside dining and a stylish café. The point is that you can casually enjoy the high-end Kibune riverside dining experience. Additionally, they have a separate riverside area for pets to enjoy along with their owners. The exterior looks like a new café rather than an old-fashioned establishment. Inside, there is a spacious terrace where you can overlook the river, similar to the riverside dining area. To access the riverside dining area, there is a staircase with a seating fee of 550 yen per person including tax. First, order some sweets at the reception. The system is self-service where you pick up and return your own sweets. The items purchased were: ○ Furusato Parfait - Hojicha pudding x vanilla soft serve for 1,100 yen tax included ○ Shiratama Zenzai for 600 yen tax included ○ Peach juice for 600 yen tax included *Additional riverside seating fee for 550 yen tax included x 2 Initially, we thought the terrace seating was fine, but due to my wife's request to experience the riverside dining, we quickly paid the additional fee and headed there. The view of the river from above and from the riverside dining area is completely different. The riverside dining area is significantly cooler and more pleasant. It was worth paying the extra fee. If you've come this far, it's better not to skimp on the seating fee. If you were to dine at another riverside restaurant, the price would be much higher. However, the sweets were disappointing, as the containers were cheap and nothing special. Nevertheless, it was good to be able to experience the atmosphere in an easy and affordable way. A restaurant worth remembering and visiting again.

There is a cafe with a riverside terrace. Near Kibune Shrine, there are other restaurants with riverside terraces, but most of them are a bit on the expensive side. After walking from Kurama-dera Temple, feeling sweaty and tired, I don't feel like eating kaiseki cuisine. The only affordable option seems to be Denbei. However, if you walk down the hill from there, you'll find this restaurant where you can rest on the riverside terrace at a reasonable price. There is an extra charge of 550 yen per person for the terrace. The "Seseragi Set" (1500 yen) includes a small grilled ayu fish and a set of bite-sized somen noodles. Even on a holiday weekend, there were plenty of empty seats and we were seated right away. I think this is a perfect place to take a break on the riverside terrace while enjoying some tea.

From Iwakura, we sought even more coolness and headed to Kibune. This is the first shop you come across along the river. It seems casual and new, but in fact, it is a long-established shop that has been in business for over 100 years. That's why it has "Kokon" in its name. It was convenient to have a parking lot. However, I was surprised to see that there were so many foreign tourists in Kibune. More than half of the customers seemed to be foreigners. The system of ordering, paying, and receiving the products in advance was a bit confusing. I was expecting shaved ice, but they didn't have it! So, I switched to a Green Tea Float (900 yen). The sweets mostly used matcha and hojicha. For an additional fee, you can use the terrace seats by the river, which provided a cool atmosphere. The Green Tea Float seemed a bit overpriced considering the contents, but when you factor in the location, it's understandable. The soft-serve ice cream my friend ordered (600 yen) was stored in the freezer and was hard, which was disappointing.

I wanted to experience kawadoko cuisine in Kibune while in Kyoto. Despite the hot summer day, sitting in the shade with the soothing sound of water created a comfortable atmosphere that stimulated my appetite. The kaiseki meal was modest but delicious.

A cafe where you can enjoy sitting by the river in Kurama Kibune. It is very comfortable to spend time there during the summer, especially after 1:00 PM on weekdays when it is not too crowded. It is a place where you can drop by casually, which is rare, as most places require waiting in line. I had a pleasant time there. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Furukafu at Kibune, where you can enjoy lunch on the riverside. I sat on the terrace with my dog, feeling the cool breeze and listening to the sound of the stream, which was very soothing. They offer set meals such as somen noodles and grilled ayu fish, as well as sweets like Tsujiri matcha soft serve ice cream. The cold somen noodles were smooth and delicious, and the grilled ayu fish was fragrant and tasty. They also offer takeout, making it a recommended spot for a break during a stroll in Kibune.

Drive to Kibune entrance here, there are cold but outdoor seats with a stove. Kibune River is outside. This area is surrounded by cedar trees, so no autumn leaves yet. Coffee and roasted green tea latte are available. Kyoto will soon be crowded with tourists for autumn leaves, but it's still early so there are few people. Takao is beautiful.

We used this place for lunch with friends. It's surprising to be able to enjoy a riverside menu in the Kibune area at this price. You can also enjoy the café. It had a welcoming atmosphere that changed the image of high-end Kyoto riverside dining. The dishes were delicious and satisfying to enjoy with all five senses. The staff were attentive and considerate. It's also dog-friendly and hygienic. I would like to visit again.

We had tea at a café after visiting Kibune Shrine with our pet. There is a corner with a dog run, where pets are required to wear a leash and diaper. There is a fee of 550 yen per dog, and you have to carry your own order as there is a service charge. It's Kyoto after all. Only about 5 cars can park there. The dog café space was reserved in the evening at 4 pm. It's great that there is a café here!

Kibune's riverside dining is often associated with being expensive. Even for lunch, it's not uncommon to see bills that would make Fukuzawa Yukichi himself fly away. However, "Fujiya" is a new concept that offers a more casual riverside cafe experience, so the prices are not as high as one might expect. That being said, a meal including the riverside seating fee will still cost around 5000 yen. The Yamasu Gozen set includes: - Chilled tofu and summer vegetable with shrimp jelly - Eel chirashi sushi - Junna grated yam - Grilled conger eel, bamboo shoot gluten roll, and corn wrapped in bamboo leaves - Special ultra-thin silk roll noodles with condiments - Grilled ayu salted fish from Lake Biwa and edamame Despite the scorching heat, the riverside seating provides a different world with cool breezes from the river, shade from the trees, and the sounds of cicadas. The bus stop right in front of the restaurant makes it easy to get there from Kibuneguchi Station. The ordering and payment process at the same counter as the takeout can be a bit chaotic. The staff also seem a bit inexperienced, leading to a slightly rushed atmosphere. Was the placement of the grilled ayu fish upside down?

Before visiting Kifune Shrine, I went to the restaurant called Kokon Fujii where I had made a lunch reservation. The temperature in the area was about 6 degrees lower at 29°C. Having lunch by the riverside was nice as the cool breeze from the river made it pleasant. The lunch was not very luxurious and might not be satisfying for younger people. It's more about enjoying the atmosphere, and it's the most reasonable option for riverside dining near Kifune. I then walked to Kifune Shrine, but the sun was strong and it was hot, yet it was a nice walking route. Driving there can be challenging with narrow roads and traffic jams near the shrine. Parking is limited and it can take time to find a spot. Many people seemed to come by bus.

It was a mid-afternoon after finishing work in the area around Kuramaguchi Station on the Eizan Electric Railway Kurama Line. There was no rush on any projects, so I decided to take a leisurely trip to Kibune, a place I had always wanted to visit. It's about a 30-minute train ride from Demachiyanagi Station on the Keihan Line to Kurama Station, followed by a 5-minute bus ride from the station. In less than 40 minutes, I went from the scorching city to a cool and refreshing town. It was just the right balance. However, when I arrived at Kibune, I found out that the riverside dining platforms, a summer tradition in the area, required reservations. So, I changed my plans from dining by the river to simply strolling around Kibune and soaking in the Kyoto atmosphere. It turned out to be a pleasant experience. As I walked back to the station, I spotted a cozy cafe-like place where I decided to have some tea before heading home. It was located less than a 10-minute walk from Kibune Shrine. The warm and inviting atmosphere of the place was truly delightful. I ordered an iced coffee for 500 yen and a green tea for my friend nursing a hangover for 500 yen. After settling the bill, we were shown to a terrace seat. The gentle breeze and slightly cool air made for a relaxing afternoon tea. As we sat on the terrace, we noticed a riverside platform below us. The staff mentioned that we could use it for an additional charge of 500 yen per person. So, we decided to splurge and experience dining on the riverside platform. We ordered a highball for 700 yen plus the additional charge, as well as a draft beer for 800 yen plus the charge. Despite the high prices, we enjoyed our riverside dining debut with a toast. Sitting on the edge of the platform, dipping our feet in the water, and sipping our drinks, it was a truly enjoyable experience. Overall, it was a great way to spend a casual and carefree afternoon. I recommend this hidden gem of a place just a short walk from Kibuneguchi Station.

I went to Kibune Shrine. Since it's in the mountains, the riverside seating was a bit chilly. Lunch on the riverside can give off a pricey impression, but they have reasonably priced menu options here. They also have terrace seating, but for just 500 yen extra, you can dine by the riverside. I wasn't very hungry, so I opted for a light set meal - grilled sweetfish and somen noodles. Eating by the riverside made the meal even more delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I went sightseeing at temples and shrines in Kyoto with my high school classmates. We found a nice cafe in Kibune, so we decided to go in! There were four men in their 50s, and we ordered sweets. I chose the hojicha pudding. I quickly took off my mask to eat it! The roasted green tea flavor and the sweetness of the pudding were a perfect match! The red bean paste and whipped cream toppings enhanced the deliciousness of the hojicha pudding even more. I like hojicha, but I rarely drink it at home, and in the world of sweets, matcha is more popular than hojicha. We sat on the terrace seat along the river, enjoying the greenery and the sound of the river, and had a pleasant time. In the afternoon, it started to get cloudy, and since we were in a mountainous area, it quickly got dark even though it was before 4 pm. It's time to leave the restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

Kibune is unable to dine on the riverbed when it rains, so I made a reservation on the day before the weather forecast confirmed clear skies, and decided to try it out because the lunch seemed reasonably priced. The restaurant had a cafe-like atmosphere and the riverbed was located in the back, not visible from the front. If the riverbed is available, you can also visit for cafe use or light meals like somen even on the same day, but those who reserved the lunch set seem to have priority. The river at this location, lower than the shops around Kibune Shrine, is not as powerful or intense, it's more gentle and soothing. The temperature also feels slightly different. Not all seats are right next to the river, so it might not be suitable for those who want to leisurely enjoy a course meal while occasionally dipping their feet in the river. The meal is served in a set menu rather than a course meal. The seasoning was good, there were no ingredients I disliked, and it was delicious. The portion is just right for women, but may be a bit small for men. The pudding dessert was soft and jiggly, very delicious.

I visited Kibune for the first time and it was a nightmare. The parking lot in a good location was full, and I couldn't even make a U-turn due to the traffic jam. Climbing uphill on a narrow 4m road, surrounded by cars and people near Kibune Shrine. It was chaotic and there was no place to take a break as everything was fully booked. Finally, I arrived at Kibune Shrine and immediately turned back. Kibune is a fearsome place. The elegant image of Kibune, is it only allowed for a select few or those who have made reservations and struggled to reach it? Eventually, I found a cafe where I could wait in line for about 20 minutes. It turned out that for an additional 500 yen per person, I could sit at a riverside table. It was paradise. The riverside was cool and beautiful, completely different from the main road. The temperature was 10 degrees lower than Kyoto, a real bargain for meals. Do not underestimate Kibune. The only elegant place is the riverside. For those who cannot do the traditional way of visiting Kibune, make a reservation and visit this place. It is easy to access and a great find. Thank you for the wonderful encounter. Today, I was exploring from Kurama to Kibune. On the way back from Kibune Shrine, I stopped by a cafe. It's a cafe located about halfway between Kibune Shrine and Eizan Electric Railway Kibuneguchi Station. They offer dishes like grilled ayu fish, somen noodles, and sweets that you can enjoy by the riverside. The cafe opened in 2018 and has a fresh and new interior. After purchasing at the counter, I moved to the terrace seating facing the Kibune River. They also have riverside seating, but it was raining today. They operate riverside seating until September 30th. The "Koko Parfait" uses Uji matcha and features matcha soft serve topped with white cream and cylindrical "tsujiri no sato". The matcha soft serve is moist and elegant. As you eat the soft serve, you'll find cornflakes and matcha pudding inside. Eating sweets while listening to the sound of the flowing river is especially delicious. It's a cafe that you might miss if you take the bus from Kibuneguchi. Due to its location, it's not as crowded as near Kibune Shrine, allowing for a leisurely and enjoyable experience.

Last year, I was very impressed by the delicate color, aroma, and rich flavor of the somen dipping sauce that was typical of Kyoto. However, this summer, I was truly disappointed by the completely tasteless somen dipping sauce that seemed like just water. Since the sauce was very delicious last year, it's better not to leave the taste of the sauce to the part-timers. The location is excellent. I hope to have high expectations for next summer.
