午後の憂鬱

I had been passing by this place and trying to find a time when it was open, so I was surprised when I finally got in easily. It was almost full around 11:30 am on a weekday, which was another surprise. I had thought it was run by an elderly woman, but it turned out to be probably a couple and an employee. I ordered the famous inari udon for 680 yen. They told me they didn't have inari sushi because they didn't have sushi rice. The udon arrived in about 5 minutes. The broth had a nice aroma and the flavor was sweet. The way they boiled the egg just right to show the yolk was impressive.

I have always wanted to go to lunch at #Douhachi in front of Fushimi Inari Taisha, with its thousands of torii gates. Their specialty, the "inari udon," is a large sweetened piece of aburaage, which is a favorite treat of the fox messengers of the Inari shrine. It is served in a sweet and elegant broth that is typical of Kyoto. The noodles are soft and slurp-worthy, even in the hot summer. The kamaboko represents Mount Inari, and the egg symbolizes the sacred jewel that the fox holds in its mouth. This hidden gem of a restaurant is definitely worth trying the kitsune udon. I would love to go back with my kids and try the warabi mochi as well. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Due to some circumstances, I ended up at Fushimi Inari (^^;) I'm planning to go visit the Gankake Shrine! When I looked it up, it seems quite high up (◎_◎;) I remember climbing partway before and giving up on it (^^;) At that time, I was really not taking it seriously, carrying lots of souvenirs, so it was impossible (^^;) This time, I am prepared to make it to the top! But before that, lunch. I got off at the Keihan station and on the way to Fushimi Inari, I took a little detour. I went to "Dohachi" restaurant. The sign "Udon Zenzai" caught my eye. It looks like an ordinary house... (^^;) I went inside. It was a bit past 12 o'clock, but it seemed like it was full just a while ago. I sat at an empty seat. The prices are cheap! Not tourist prices! It seems like many locals are here to eat. There are also some tourists mixed in... As expected, I was curious about the "Inari Udon" because of Fushimi Inari (^-^) It's like Kitsune Udon with egg and fish cake. Let's build up some stamina before exercising! The udon arrived. The Kitsune is huge! It fills more than half of the bowl! The broth is sweet for Inari. The noodles are thin udon. The egg is perfectly half-cooked. It was delicious. And all this for 670 yen! The cheapest udon is 380 yen! The most expensive "Nabe Yaki" is 750 yen! It seems they also have desserts, so next time I come for a thank-you visit, I'll stop by again (^-^) Thank you for the meal.

Today I had lunch here♪ I'm exploring Kyoto today (*´∇`)ノ First, I visited Fushimi Inari, the gateway to Kyoto♪ I found this place on a back street from the approach, where many locals seem to visit. They offer delicious udon and sweets at a good cost performance. The shops near the approach seem to have tourist prices and the taste is not as good...(^o^; This place seems to be run by an old lady and someone in the kitchen, operating in a small scale. Is it Shippoku Udon? It seems like Kagawa's Sanuki Udon, right❗ The broth is slightly sweet and the udon noodles are a bit soft? Wasn't it supposed to be firmer? But, as I kept eating, I got used to it♪ There were plenty of ingredients as shown in the photo, and it was satisfying. However, the soft noodles left an impression (^o^; Thank you for the meal♪

When you get off at Keihan Inari Station and walk towards the canal on the approach, you will see a park and a restroom on your right. At the back, there is a local favorite udon restaurant called Michihachi. It's a historic shop where you can go without any pressure. My partner had kitsune udon. The broth is rich and flavorful. The thick and sweet aburaage is delicious. I had curry udon. It has plenty of diagonally sliced green onions. It's irresistible for green onion lovers. The soft green onions with flavorful broth make for a delicious and gentle udon. The noodles are soft and chewy. The bowls for both dishes are slightly small. It's a cozy and comforting place. The lady running the shop is efficient and kind. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Fushimi Inari is known for inari udon...no! Hanakou! Yuba! Inari! Kamaboko with sweet shiitake mushrooms are also included in the table udon let's go for today! The area around Japan's largest tourist spot, Fushimi Inari, is filled with foreign tourists everywhere, but there is a quiet, relaxed, and beautiful local restaurant here. The entrance is narrow and a bit confusing, but the inside is spacious and clean, with a somewhat cozy feel. The cute waitress, chatting about the heat, helps you decide what to order. The table udon is 620 yen. Probably about 200 yen cheaper than other restaurants on the street. It's a soft udon typical of Kansai, with a nice sweetness. The smell of bonito is good. The fried tofu and fried fish cake soaked in broth are delightful. For dessert, I had cold warabi mochi for 350 yen. The chewy warabi mochi comes with kinako, white sugar, and black syrup. I mixed everything together thoroughly. It's quite refreshing. The homemade warabi mochi seems to have some moisture. For example, "Mizu Warabi Mochi" doesn't leave a lingering sweetness and refreshes the throat. I come to Fushimi Inari about twice a year, but the comfortable atmosphere, casual vibe, and warm, delicious flavors here are a must-visit next time. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant at 3:30 PM and was the only customer. The kind old lady served me and the atmosphere was nice. The taste was very gentle and nostalgic.

The fried tofu in the kitsune udon is large, thick, and soft! It has a sweet flavor with a gentle dashi taste. The warabimochi is also famous, so I bought some for takeout after eating in the restaurant. It's a great place to relax and rejuvenate after a strenuous hike at Fushimi Inari. The owner is very friendly and down-to-earth, without the typical high-class Kyoto attitude. The cozy interior of the restaurant is intriguing, and I hope it stays the same. I will definitely go back!

When I was little, I loved the warabi mochi here. That was 50 years ago! Even now, I am happy to enjoy the same warabi mochi and kitsune udon as back then. It was so delicious. I want to visit this restaurant every month.

A familiar shop in the neighborhood. A nostalgic old-fashioned eatery serving light meals and desserts. Always crowded and popular.
