This shop is known for its "kakinoha-zushi," but I love the "premium mackerel sushi"! The thick slices of mackerel have a great texture and the flavor of the fat is amazing. It's not greasy and has an elegant aftertaste. This time, I got the "half" portion for 648 yen, which is cheap.

I bought some Kakinoha sushi at the JR Kyoto Isetan on the B2 floor. It was a pack of 6 for 970 yen (excluding tax). The pack included mackerel, conger eel, salmon, shrimp, and sea bream. The sushi rice had a nice balance of vinegar, and a subtle fragrance of persimmon leaves, making it delicious.

I was wandering around Isetan when I spotted a shop selling mackerel sushi, which is my favorite. The price was surprisingly reasonable, so I decided to buy one even though I shouldn't. When I got home, I tried it.
- Dish Received: I bought my favorite mackerel sushi.
- Purpose of Use: To enjoy Kyoto's flavors easily at home.
- Satisfaction with the Dish: It was very delicious with thick slices of mackerel.
- Cleanliness of the Store: Since it was a takeout, cleanliness was not relevant.
- Quality of Customer Service: The service was polite.
- Convenience of Parking: I used a coin parking lot.
- Price Attractiveness: The price was surprisingly good for Kyoto, and the taste was excellent, so the cost performance is quite high.
- Willingness to Revisit: I will definitely buy it again when I visit Isetan.
- Recommendation Level (out of 5 stars): 4 stars. The mackerel was well-balanced and I really liked the taste. In Kyoto, there are many famous mackerel sushi restaurants, but they are usually quite expensive. However, with the price at this shop, you can buy without hesitation. I will definitely come back here when I visit Kyoto Station.

In the morning when heading to Tokyo, a convenient option for a light breakfast is this. Yes, it's Marisushi. It comes in a pack of 2, with pickled mustard greens and shiitake mushrooms for 500 yen. The portion size is just right. You can easily buy it at Kyoto Station, and the price is reasonable. It's refreshing and easy to eat. When you open it on the Shinkansen train, you'll find shiny sushi. It looks delicious and tastes delicious too. It was a satisfying breakfast. Thank you for the meal.

On the third day of my recent trip to Kansai, I stopped by Isetan in Kyoto to buy souvenirs from "Kaki Sen". I was originally planning to try Osaka sushi as well, but I wanted to go to Kobe sooner to visit some shops, so I decided to just buy some persimmon leaf sushi for myself. I ordered persimmon leaf sushi for 518 yen and bamboo-skinned mackerel sushi for 1,100 yen. I also purchased the mackerel sushi because I felt like I missed out on Osaka sushi. I made sure to ask about the storage period so that I could bring it back home safely. When I returned to Ishigaki Island and ate it, I realized that food like this tastes even better when enjoyed in the right atmosphere, so I think it would have been better to eat it on the spot in Kansai. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I missed out on eating kakinoha sushi in Nara... But it's okay! I'm sure they sell it at Kyoto Station. Just like how you can buy Akafuku at Nagoya Station... With that in mind, I went to the food floor at Isetan in JR Kyoto Station, which is also a station building. I found the shop called Kakinosen, which I don't hear much about in Nara. Since it was my first time, I bought a bit more. It's nice that you can buy various types starting from just one piece. Besides the classic mackerel, I also bought the almost classic salmon and the classic shrimp. I still think the classic mackerel is the best at any kakinoha sushi place. It's convenient to eat without getting your hands dirty, and I like kakinoha sushi even though it's not common in Kanto. I generally like pressed sushi, so I'm happy to find a variety in Kansai. It also has a good shelf life, but I wonder why it's considered minor in Kanto. There are kaki trees all over Kanto... Well, maybe the price is a factor. It's a bit pricey, around 200 yen per piece, because it's labor-intensive. I'll consider it a rare treat when I come to Kansai. Kakinosen's kakinoha sushi. So far, I give it an average rating. I'd like to try it alongside other varieties next time. Thank you for the meal! by Sunao.

I really enjoyed it. I stayed in Kyoto for two nights and three days with my cousin, combining it with attending a wedding. Despite the typhoon, I managed to arrive safely. On the first day, we went sightseeing, and for dinner, I had sabazushi, which cost 864 yen (tax included) for 4 pieces. It was delicious, not too raw, and not too soaked, just perfect. I also bought eel rolls from a chicken egg shop at Isetan's food department, and they were also very tasty. The level of the department store basement in Kyoto is quite high, isn't it? On the way back on the Shinkansen, I also tried their main product, kakinoha sushi, and it was also very delicious.

I had dinner that wasn't quite satisfying enough. I felt like I was just snacking and didn't feel satisfied. So, I decided to go to Isetan right before closing time to get some late-night snacks. Oh, they're on sale and in small sizes. I bought some persimmon leaf sushi. The mackerel had a decent thickness and the vinegar was just right. The salmon was also good, not too thin and quite tasty. I had never bought shrimp before, and I found the texture a bit tough. The sesame seeds added a nice touch. The rice was packed tightly, making it a bit difficult to eat in one bite.

Introducing Kaki Sen at JR Kyoto Isetan underground. Kaki Sen offers delicious stick sushi, including grilled and regular mackerel sushi. Both are tasty. The mackerel is just the right amount of oily and has a nice firm texture, using high-quality mackerel. Highly recommended, the stick sushi for 1100 yen is cheap and delicious. Definitely worth trying!

This is a specialty store for Kakinoha-zushi located near the bento corner of a long-established restaurant on the basement floor of JR Kyoto Isetan. It is a renowned product from the secluded area of Tennokawa, nestled in the mountains of Nara's Okuyoshino. Usually, the return journey from Kyoto is by Shinkansen or a flight from Osaka Itami Airport, but during the 18-ticket season, some travelers with a strong passion for train travel and cost-saving spirit opt to return to Yokohama by local train. I always prepare some emergency snacks for the train ride, and Kakinoha-zushi is a convenient option that can be easily eaten with just a few bites, even while standing in the crowded local train during the 18-ticket season. It is a functional food that is both traditional and modern. When I can't buy the Hishi-iwa bento on Sundays or during the summer season, this serves as a sufficient substitute. The fact that they are sold individually is also great. I particularly enjoy the Kakinoha-zushi with a good aroma of persimmon leaves, using Iga rice Koshihikari for a chewy texture, and a slightly sweet and mild vinegared rice seasoned with chirizu vinegar and sugar. I prefer the Kakinoha-zushi with marinated mackerel, red sea bream, or conger eel as toppings. The wonderful scent of persimmon leaves is truly addictive.

Kakisen is a shop that specializes in kakinoha sushi, located in the basement of JR Isetan in Kyoto. They are currently having a stock clearance sale with a large inventory. I love their kakinoha sushi and enjoy being able to buy them individually. It's perfect for a quick and easy dinner side dish. Before boarding the Shinkansen, I bought some to enjoy as a simple dinner side dish. The kakinoha sushi consists of vinegared rice wrapped in persimmon leaves with various toppings such as sea bream and mackerel. This time, I also tried the mackerel with plum meat, which enhanced the deliciousness of the mackerel with its refreshing sourness.

I drank near Kyoto Station and then got some souvenirs. Or maybe I was just a little hungry. I got a pack of Kakinohana sushi from Kaki Sen. Nowadays, there are varieties like salmon, but when it comes to Kakinohana sushi, mackerel is the best choice. In Tokyo, it's not easy to find Kakinohana sushi, and there are even discussions about eating the kaki leaves. I've never thought about eating kaki leaves before, so it was surprising. I heard that the leaves are for preservation and sterilization, but I was relieved when they were removed properly. It's not exceptionally delicious, but it's a comforting sushi.

It is a more sophisticated direction than the persimmon leaf sushi available inside Kyoto Station. The fact that they do not use chemical seasonings is also impressive.

I bought saba sushi from Izuna, but it was sold out, so I had to buy it here and eat it at home. I was happy that it was already cut, but the bottom part was stuck together and hard to eat. The rice was dry. If the rice is dry even with wrapping, it could be due to poor cooking or unsuitable rice. The saba itself was disappointing, as it was thin.

Visited on Saturday. The Foodlog rating at the time of visit was 3.09. I purchased it in between transferring to the Shinkansen at Kyoto Station. The store is located in Kyoto Isetan. I was looking for something easy to snack on, and decided to buy assorted sushi because they had it available a la carte. I bought... Anago (160 yen), Shirimen sansho (130 yen), and Hamo (278 yen). I ate them on the Shinkansen. They were all bite-sized and easy to eat. They all had sansho pepper in them, spreading a citrusy aroma and refreshing spiciness. It was great that there were many options to choose from a la carte. That's all, Osomatsu-san!

This time, I would like to introduce a review of Kakinomoto Sushi from 【Kakisen】, located in the secluded area of Tenkawa in Nara's Okuyoshino mountains (rated 3.07 on Tabelog). During my trip to Kyoto, I visited JR Kyoto Isetan's basement on my last day to purchase Kakinomoto Sushi from 【Kakisen】. Among the various Kakinomoto Sushi available, this one from 【Kakisen】 is my favorite. I was surprised that I had never reviewed it before, despite always buying and enjoying it. This time, I bought a total of 20 pieces, including 10 mackerel, 4 shrimp, 4 conger eel, and 2 grilled mackerel. This type of Kakinomoto Sushi can be carried around at room temperature and lasts until the next day, making it very convenient as a souvenir for children. I enjoyed it at home the next day after returning to Kyoto. While the vinegar in the sushi rice is a bit strong, it didn't bother me much as I like vinegar rice. My two children and I finished all 20 pieces in no time. Although you cannot purchase it in Kyoto, the "Deluxe Kakinomoto Sushi" sold at "Tengawa Saryo Kakisen" in Matsubara City, Osaka, or at the "Main Store Kakisen" in Hankyu Umeda Store is definitely more delicious! "Thank you for the meal."

[June 20, 2017] In Kyoto, I wandered around the department store basement. I discovered mackerel stick sushi! It looked delicious and was quite heavy. I wondered if I could finish it all, but I did! The flavor of the kelp was strong and the mackerel was thick and tasty. So satisfying! My stomach is full now. The dish I ordered was mackerel stick sushi for 1,620 yen (tax included) from Ajimiya Headquarters, Osaka. Founded in 1978, with 450 employees. Thank you for the delicious meal!

On the way home from Kyoto, it's my usual routine to browse through the basement of Isetan, Subako, and the Miyakomichi at Kintetsu. I often end up buying persimmon leaf sushi at this shop. My family loves persimmon leaf sushi. It can be carried at room temperature and lasts until the next day, which is convenient. And around 6 p.m., all items are already discounted to 108 yen each. This time, I bought souvenirs for my family. I was able to purchase them more affordably than usual. The main items were their favorite conger eel and sea bream... They were pleased.

I visited Kyoto Isetan next to Kyoto Station to buy souvenirs from Kyoto. In the basement floor, there are various bento boxes, side dishes, and sushi shops lined up. There is a specialty shop for Kakinoha sushi called "Kakisen" where various types of Kakinoha sushi are displayed. I was surprised to see so many varieties. This time, I purchased two types, mackerel and Pacific saury. The prices are affordable, which makes it easy to buy. The taste has a good balance of acidity and is great as a snack. Although the size is small, it is quite delicious. I would like to try more varieties. It's a shop I wish was closer to where I live.

I bought a beer and saba sushi as a sacred appetizer before boarding the Shinkansen♪───O(≧∇≦)O────♪ The taste was great with a strong vinegar flavor and the freshness of the mackerel. You can purchase them individually, so even if you're alone, you can enjoy it fully♪(*^^)o∀*∀o(^^*)♪ There are also sets with various types of sushi, so I would like to try them next time!
