On the 10th floor of Kyoto Station Building, there is the only sweets shop 'Yakikama Sweets Chasen' in the ramen theme park 'Kyoto Ramen Koji', where famous ramen shops from all over the country are gathered. This shop is operated by "Foods Frontier Co., Ltd.", which runs cafe businesses, and take-out specialty stores (delicatessen shops). The Chasen store is also located in Kyoto and Kumamoto. According to the information on Tabelog, the Kyoto store opened on November 18, 2006. When Kyoto Ramen Koji was renovated and reopened on July 11, 2016, the take-out-only sweets shop "Chasen" was reborn with an eat-in space as "Yakikama Sweets Chasen". I have visited Kyoto Ramen Koji many times and this shop has caught my attention for a while. On this day, a Wednesday on a weekday, I visited the shop around 8:30 pm. At that time, there was only one group of customers and it was not crowded. The menu mainly consists of matcha sweets, including Dolce Pizza with matcha and fruits, and a variety of food pizzas. I was particularly interested in the 'Matcha Tamatebako Sweets', which contains various matcha sweets packed in paulownia boxes and served with dry ice. Since I arrived late at the shop, I was worried if it was sold out, but fortunately, it was still available. The 'Matcha Tamatebako Sweets' cost 1815 yen (tax included) and includes various matcha sweets made with tea from the long-established Uji tea garden "Maruri Yoshida Meichaen" served in the motif of a Kyoto kaiseki dish. When you open the paulownia box, you can enjoy a fantastic sweet with steam rising, imagining a souvenir from the princess of the Dragon Palace. The assortment includes a colorful authentic matcha parfait, a rich and light matcha tiramisu, a fragrant black bean matcha jelly, a carefully crafted matcha truffle, a delicious half-soldier fu of raw fu, a chewy homemade warabi mochi, a seasonal fruit dessert, and a large Nanoha azuki and freshly cooked black rice shiratama. The dry ice show adds a sense of movement. The box is served closed and the staff opens it, so I was able to capture the moment of opening on video. I was worried that the box was too big, but each item was small and manageable, allowing you to enjoy various sweets at the same time. The dry ice makes for a great video, and the photos are colorful and beautiful after the smoke disappears. I especially enjoyed the rich and creamy matcha truffle with a silky smooth texture and the creamy tiramisu with a mild matcha flavor. The tamatebako comes in matcha as well as seasonal limited editions such as strawberry, mango, and Halloween versions, which I am curious about. Thank you for the meal!
