The seasonal bento at Kyoto cuisine restaurant Yuzuka was unexpectedly elegant and delicious. The service was also good. I would like to visit again, maybe next time for a leisurely dinner. #Kyoto cuisine #Kyoto #Yuzuka #Seasonal bento

On the last day of my trip to Kyoto, I wanted to enjoy Kyoto cuisine before heading home, so I searched on Tabelog and visited this place. It is tucked away in a residential area, so the location is a bit hard to find. It seems like they have converted part of a house into a restaurant, so the interior is a bit small with limited seating. However, it has a luxurious feel and a calm atmosphere where you can leisurely enjoy your meal. I ordered a 2,200 yen bento box. I had to wait a bit for the dishes to come out, but when the bento box arrived, I was impressed. The taste and delicate presentation did not disappoint. It was the perfect way to end my last day in Kyoto with such amazing cuisine. Thank you very much.

Delicious Kyoto cuisine enjoyed with a glass of cold Kyoto sake, all in the company of a dear friend. The cozy and heartwarming atmosphere of the restaurant "Yuzuka" made me feel truly happy. Here are some details about the restaurant: - Location: Just turn left on the road in front of Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) and walk about 100m. Look for the sign with the name "Yuzuka" and a picture of a yuzu fruit. - Interior: Clean and traditional, with a welcoming and calming feel. The warm smile of the owner adds to the cozy ambiance. - Seating: There is a counter and a few tables, creating an intimate setting. - Reservations: It's recommended to call ahead as the owner manages the restaurant alone. - Atmosphere: On the day of my visit, there were a few other guests, including a group and a couple, all enjoying the relaxed and friendly vibe. As for the food at "Yuzuka," it truly reflects the warmth and care of the owner. Each dish is a delightful experience, with flavors that capture the essence of Kyoto. While I may not be able to describe each dish in detail, I can share the overall experience: - The dish of fresh wheat gluten and sea urchin sauce was a harmonious blend of sweet dashi broth and velvety sauce, embodying the kindness of the owner. - The colorful assortment of vegetables on lacquered plates was a visual delight, showcasing the freshness and sweetness of Kyoto produce. - The mushroom-infused rice was fragrant and comforting, with a touch of Sansho pepper adding a Kyoto touch. Overall, dining at "Yuzuka" was a heartwarming experience, made even more special by the company of a dear friend and the thoughtful dishes prepared by the owner. I look forward to returning with my wife for another cozy and delightful meal.

Kyoto Cuisine Yutaka I usually eat ramen, so sometimes I crave something like shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine). I had the opportunity to travel to Kyoto, so I visited this restaurant near the Golden Pavilion. The restaurant, located on the first floor of a house, had a cozy atmosphere and was very comfortable. (Please take off your shoes before entering) Seasonal Bento Box (Lunch 2,100 yen) "The chef, who trained at a ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant, possibly Ise-cho), carefully selects seasonal ingredients and prepares dishes with great care and love," as mentioned, the dishes exuded a high-class feel, more like authentic Kyoto cuisine than Kyoto-style home cooking. The two-tiered "Seasonal Bento Box" includes sashimi on the bottom tier and over 10 seasonal dishes on the top tier. Sliding it sideways (like a sliding door) reveals the dishes. - Steamed Sea Bream from Shinshu: Sea bream fish paste rolled with soba, egg, and seaweed in a dashi broth. - Hexagonal Bento Box: <Bottom Tier> Sashimi (amberjack, sweet shrimp, squid); <Top Tier> Seasonal dishes that may vary. Pumpkin, red konjac, yuba, scallop with egg vinegar, rolled omelette, vegetarian fried wheat gluten, sea bream pressed sushi, shiitake mushroom, bamboo leaf roll, shrimp, etc. - Rice, red miso soup, pickles - Coffee after the meal The dishes had a light and refreshing flavor, highlighting the natural taste of the ingredients, and were very delicious. *I walked in without a reservation, but it's better to make one in advance for peace of mind.

During my visit to Kyoto, I went to this restaurant near the Golden Pavilion. Since I was in Kyoto, a friend recommended this restaurant for its traditional Japanese cuisine. The location is a bit hard to find, but with a map, it's a 5 to 10-minute walk from the Golden Pavilion. The restaurant is cozy, like a part of a house turned into a dining place. Inside, it feels welcoming and elegant for a traditional Japanese restaurant. There are L-shaped counter seats and a few table seats further back. The owners, a husband and wife, run the place, which seems just the right size. They offer various course options starting from around 4000 yen, making it affordable. The specialty here is the mackerel sushi, which I had reserved in advance based on recommendations. Each dish in the course was meticulously prepared, with delicate flavors and beautiful presentation, meeting the high expectations in Kyoto. The mackerel sushi was indeed outstanding, with a rich mackerel flavor and a hint of mellowness, combined with vinegared rice for a balanced taste. It was delicious. I also enjoyed hot sake, which was smooth and tasty. The owners were very friendly, and I had a pleasant experience savoring the taste of Kyoto. I would love to visit again during my next trip to Kyoto.

Located right next to the Kinkaku-ji temple, this restaurant looks more like a modern house than a traditional eatery. It's a bit hard to find, so I recommend checking the map beforehand. I visited during lunchtime and was very satisfied with the flavorful food. I ended up staying longer than planned with a friend, but the staff (probably family-run) were very accommodating, always refilling our tea without any sign of annoyance. It felt like being at a friend's house. If you're expecting a traditional Kyoto-style restaurant with a classic atmosphere, this might not be for you. But if you want to enjoy a leisurely meal after visiting Kinkaku-ji or Jingo-ji, I highly recommend it. As we were leaving, the chef greeted us very politely. It's rare to find such good hospitality in Kyoto these days, so I hope this restaurant continues to thrive and uphold the spirit of Kyoto's hospitality.

I stopped by on my way back from seeing the Omuro cherry blossoms at Jingo-ji Temple. The cherry blossoms were only about thirty percent bloomed, which was disappointing, but I was satisfied because I had been wanting to visit this shop. It is located in a quiet residential area near Kinkaku-ji Temple and is a small, cozy shop. The owner of this place trained at the famous ryotei "Ise Nagaya" in the past, and later worked as the head chef at a ryotei called "K" in Yamashina before opening his own shop. It had been seven years since I received an invitation to visit, and I finally made it. Since it was lunchtime, there were only two types of bento boxes available, but they also serve a kaiseki course for dinner. The interesting bento box had appetizers in the top tier, three types of sashimi in the bottom tier, along with steamed sea bream from Shinshu, red miso soup, rice, a glass of beer, and two bottles of sake for 4400 yen. There were no fancy decorations, just a classic Kyoto bento presentation. The 12 appetizers were each carefully seasoned, including Kyoto specialties like Daitoku-ji fu and yuba. The red Nenbutsuji konjac may have been a playful nod to the owner's origins. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance.

It is located near the Golden Pavilion. It is a small restaurant, with a capacity of around 20 people. You take off your shoes before entering, giving you a feeling of visiting someone's home. It is quiet and relaxing, with some regular customers from the neighborhood. The menu consists of course meals, with elegantly portioned dishes served one by one. The delicate flavors are reminiscent of Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine. It seems to be run by a husband and wife, so the service may take some time. It is a great place to enjoy home-style Kyoto cuisine.
