Two of us decided to have a year-end party, so we met up at Kyoto Station without making a reservation at the restaurant. It seems that this place requires reservations to enter, but there is a non-reservation slot available, so we lined up before the opening at 5:30 pm and were the first in line at 5:15 pm. The place quickly got crowded after that. It seems to be a popular spot. The restaurant is very small, with a counter and small 4-person tables packed with about 30 people. There were no appetizers, which was nice. The assorted sashimi platter had salmon, yellowtail, and ark shell with a good amount of fat and freshness. The famous potato salad, ham cutlet, grilled seseri (chicken neck), rolled omelette, and assorted oden with beer and highball! Everything was cooked right in front of us at the counter, and all the dishes were well-prepared. And they were all delicious! We ended up losing track of time because the atmosphere was so comfortable. We left around 11 pm, so we stayed for 5 and a half hours. We didn't plan on staying that long, but many other customers were also lingering. It's a bit embarrassing that we didn't even spend 10,000 yen for all the food and drinks we had. I'll definitely go back when I want to drink around Kyoto Station!

A popular izakaya near Kyoto Station where you need to make a reservation in advance. The potato salad is delicious and popular. Personally, I wish they served thick fried tofu too! It's always good, but this time it was especially delicious. I recommend it to anyone planning to go!

I visited around 11 o'clock for the second time! Despite the late hour, the restaurant was bustling, possibly due to its proximity to the station. I had never been to this area before, but it had a cool and lovely atmosphere. I want to explore more! The staff were friendly and the place was very cozy. Definitely a great choice in the New chain!

I made a detour on my way back home for GW and visited this restaurant for the third time. It was Friday night, so when I tried to make a reservation in advance, there were no available slots. However, when I called on the day, there was an opening and I was able to go. The taste is always consistent and everything I eat is delicious. The potato salad is especially a must-try.

This is my second stay in Kyoto this year. This time, I stayed the night before because I have an early start the next day, so I was alone at night. Since I am not familiar with the area, I searched for restaurants around Kyoto Station on Tabelog and chose this place. It was quite busy even though it was a weekday. When I arrived, they asked if I had a reservation at the entrance. I told them I was a walk-in, and after a brief discussion with a senior staff member, I was able to secure a seat at the counter. It seems that it's better to make a reservation if you are coming with multiple people. The restaurant has a Showa-era izakaya atmosphere, but the staff is young and works efficiently. I started with a bottle of beer and the recommended menu items, beef tendon stew and tuna offal. The beef tendon was tender and had a mild seasoning that brought out the flavor of the meat. I also added the eggplant simmered in today's special side dish. I switched to barley shochu for my drink. The simmered eggplant was gentle and comforting. Lastly, I ordered the tuna tartare in a yukhoe style, which you eat by wrapping it in seaweed. It was quite filling and went well with the drinks. It was a fun night in Kyoto.

There are several affiliated stores near Kyoto Station where smoking is allowed. A friend recommended this place for its delicious fish dishes, so we decided to visit. The interior of the restaurant was simple and not too crowded, which was nice. The prices were reasonable and the portions were generous. The food was just as tasty as my friend had mentioned, with plenty of seasonal dishes available. The salted fish roe was particularly delicious. The menu at this casual izakaya was also surprisingly good. The selection of sake was not very familiar to me, but the owner explained that they were carefully selected and all of them were good. I would like to visit their other stores in the future. Thank you for the meal!

As I was walking around wondering where to have dinner alone, I came across a lively restaurant that seemed inviting. I decided to go in and found that it was almost full, likely due to the Golden Week holiday. I ordered a draft beer, a sashimi platter, chilled tomatoes, and Tate Gami Ponzu. The sashimi platter consisted of octopus, amberjack, and tuna. The octopus was chewy and delicious, the amberjack had a nice aroma, and the tuna was also very tasty. It seemed like a restaurant that knows how to serve good fish. So, I decided to add a bonito tataki to my order. The chilled tomatoes were dressed with a flavorful sauce and a sprinkle of black pepper, which added a nice touch. The bonito tataki was generously topped with garnishes. While the restaurant seemed confident in their bonito, it was indeed delicious! The garnishes, such as myoga, green onion, onion, and garlic, enhanced the flavor of the bonito. Then, the Tate Gami arrived fashionably late. When eaten with onion, the rich umami flavor of the Tate Gami combined with the refreshing taste of the onion created a perfect balance. I randomly walked in, but I was fortunate to discover a great restaurant.

[Izakaya New Ebisuno] - Kyoto: Just a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station, after eating yakiniku at Fujimura-san, we went to the first Kyoto izakaya, "New Ebisuno"! It was our fourth stop of the day (laughs). Despite being a popular spot, it was packed even on a weekday night. The potato salad with plenty of sauce was delicious and addictive. We also tried oden with Kyoto-style white dashi, topped with Kujo negi and bonito flakes, and it had a gentle flavor. The staff were very friendly, and it was great that the restaurant stays open late. Thank you for the wonderful meal! - Potato Salad (with sauce) - Oden (with white dashi, Kujo negi, and bonito flakes) - Blowfish skin with ponzu sauce - Harusame salad (appetizer)

I went before 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. I didn't have a reservation but was able to enter right away. After that, more and more reserved customers came in, and I realized that it was a popular restaurant. I recommend wearing clothes that are okay to get fishy smell on them. - Maguro Butsugiri (tuna sashimi) - Kanburi sashimi (today's catch) They write the seafood menu that they caught that day on the whiteboard in addition to the regular menu. The buri was really delicious and made me happy. - Mekabuto ika yakitori, choice of sauce or salt. It comes out on a skewer, like yakitori, and was very easy to eat. Comes in 2 pieces. - Gyusuji dotenabe (beef tendon stew) It was quite spicy. I don't like spicy food so it may have felt spicier for me, but even my friend who is okay with spiciness said it was quite spicy. It tasted delicious, so if you can handle spicy food, it's a must-try. - Crispy cheese sticks They bring ketchup in a small dish. I ate it with salt. Cheese wrapped in spring roll skin and fried. - Kamaage shirasu donburi It's about the size of a man's rice bowl, so it's a good size and portion even if you have it as a meal. Everything was delicious! I wonder why I didn't go there sooner. I definitely want to go back.

After returning from enjoying the autumn leaves in Arashiyama, we were turned away from the izakaya we had planned to visit, but my boyfriend found another one for us. It seems like there are not many izakayas in Kyoto, and it's difficult to find a place to just walk into without a reservation. We arrived a few minutes before the 5:30 opening time and there were already two groups waiting ahead of us. The restaurant opened a few minutes late, and after asking about reservations and the number of people, we had to wait a bit. The guests with reservations were seated first, and then we were allowed in. However, soon after we were seated, the place was fully booked except for one seat at the counter. The staff explained that they were fully booked and operating on a first-come, first-served basis. We started with a toast with beer and ordered the sashimi of the day, firefly squid sashimi, chicken nanban, and three types of oden. The chicken nanban was taking a while, so we ordered sake - my boyfriend had cold sake and I had hot sake. We also ordered thick fried tofu, but were warned that it would take some time. Despite the wait, both the chicken nanban and the thick fried tofu were delicious. We also ordered some fried fish cakes, which were popular due to their generous portion size. My boyfriend had seen good reviews on Tabelog. We had a great time enjoying delicious food and drinks. Thank you for the meal!

To entertain guests from Kanto, we searched for an izakaya near Kyoto Station and ended up at New Ebisuno. The storefront and entrance are covered with thick vinyl sheets, giving it a cool vibe. Inside, the kitchen island is surrounded by customer seating. Since we had made a reservation, we were guided to the "private room" in the back of the restaurant. The room had two tables for 2 people and two tables for 4 people. The interior is stylish. After ordering drinks, we tried the famous half-sized potato salad, sashimi, saury sashimi, french fries, oyster fry, chicken skin, thick fried tofu, minced tuna with green onions, simmered beef tendon, chicken ramen, and rice with raw egg. The famous potato salad had sauce on it, and while it looked ordinary, it was delicious. The sashimi was tasty, and the thick fried tofu was also good. The combination of ginger, grated radish, and green onions was nice. The simmered beef tendon, being homemade, went well with the sake. Overall, every dish we ordered was great. The staff here are very attentive and friendly, making it clear why this izakaya is popular among customers. I would love to try different dishes here next time.

It is located about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station. Before opening, it is not very noticeable and easy to miss. There are many reviews mentioning that it is reasonably priced, but I felt that the prices were not high or low. The sashimi of fish was average (from the perspective of someone living closer to the sea, it might be considered cheap and delicious in Kyoto). The sashimi of meat was quite delicious and reasonably priced. The potato salad was served in generous portions, similar to Kyoto Tower. It is cheap and delicious. The prices of alcoholic beverages are average. I felt that there was a bit too much ice in the sour drinks, making them seem overpriced. There is a wide variety of food options with a good balance of price, quantity, and quality, making it a place you would want to revisit if you are undecided.

This is a izakaya near Kyoto Station! We ordered the following: Half portion of potato salad (280 yen), fried kisu fish (480 yen), sashimi of flounder (680 yen), grilled eggplant with bonito flakes (380 yen), and rolled omelette (380 yen). The flounder sashimi and rolled omelette were delicious. The restaurant seems to be more geared towards young people, and those who are concerned about hygiene might find it a bit challenging. We stayed for about an hour and a half, and the place was constantly full with about 10 groups being turned away. Thank you for the meal!

Near the intersection of Shichijo Street and Shinmachi Street, this shop facing Shichijo Street is covered with vinyl sheets on the front. Once you pass through the vinyl sheet "door," you'll find a cluttered interior with counter seats and table seats, bustling with customers. The menu offers typical izakaya dishes found in the Osaka Station building area, with decent prices and good value. Let's cheers with a draft beer (480 yen) made with Suntory's Premium Malt. The "half" portion of potato salad (280 yen) surprises with its generous serving size and the amount of sauce poured over it, almost like what you'd find on fried foods. The salad seems to be seasoned as well. Trying it, you may not feel too uncomfortable, but the sauce somewhat dilutes the taste of the potato salad. It feels like eating the filling of a croquette. The bonito tataki (650 yen) comes with plenty of onions, green onions, garlic, and myoga, almost hiding the fish. Enjoying it with ponzu and various condiments makes the bonito quite delicious. The thick ham cutlet (300 yen) offers a solid meaty texture. Although there were still many more dishes to try, this is where the review ends. This restaurant left an impression as a place you'd find in Kyoto, offering an izakaya experience.

I visited New Ebisu in Kyoto during a business trip as recommended by a friend who lives in Kyoto! I was excited by the casual izakaya atmosphere that was evident from the exterior as I entered the restaurant! It was a weekday but the place was bustling with customers! I was led to a separate area, which had a charming ambiance! I started with a draft beer! For food, I had a sashimi platter, fugu tempura, potato salad, and ikura donburi! Everything was delicious and reasonably priced! It was perfect for everyday dining with great value for money! The potato salad, in particular, was a new experience for me with its sauce topping! It looked impressive and tasted great with the sauce! It went well with the beer! The menu was diverse and I wanted to try more dishes, but this time I only had about an hour. I would love to come back and enjoy a leisurely meal next time!

Popular izakaya within walking distance from Kyoto Station. If I hadn't known about it, I might not have entered this shop with vinyl curtains, as it is always full and requires a reservation. Thanks to my friend's reservation, we were able to enter right when it opened. The menu is cheap, generous in portion size, and delicious. The amberjack sashimi is thickly sliced, and the specialty dashimaki is fluffy and filling. It was so delicious that we ordered it twice (laughs). The oden, dotemaki, and oyster fry are all delicious as well. The broth is also delicious! It's a great place to go casually after work.

After watching a live performance at a live house in Kawaramachi, I always stop by here before catching the late-night bus back home. Even though I usually arrive late and most of the dishes are sold out, just being able to have their thick fried tofu is enough to make me happy. Is tofu really that delicious in Kyoto? Even when I try to replicate the taste at home, I can't quite capture the flavor here.

During a business trip to Kyoto, we had dinner with six staff members. I was worried that this restaurant might not accommodate a group this size, but when I called, they said they had a separate room available. So we made a reservation and headed to the restaurant. I had been here once before, but couldn't eat much because the first restaurant we went to had huge portions. This time, I wanted to try again. The entrance of the restaurant was covered with plastic, and the separate room was at the back. As we walked through the restaurant, a small room appeared at the back, which felt very Kyoto-like. Despite being close to Kyoto Station, this restaurant is reasonably priced. It's perfect for bringing a group of young staff members. We ordered various dishes like tofu, fried tofu, fried taro, rolled omelette, grilled ginkgo nuts, grilled sea bream with salt, tempura with pickled ginger, and the famous potato salad. The sauce-covered potato salad, the delicious sea bream with crispy skin, and the tofu dishes were all surprisingly tasty for the price. We kept ordering more dishes, and even though it took a bit of effort to call the staff in the separate room, it allowed us to relax and enjoy our drinks. The total bill for six people was less than 15,000 yen, which is quite reasonable for Kyoto. This restaurant is a great choice for enjoying Kyoto on a budget. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I returned to Kyoto from Tokyo by Shinkansen in the evening. At night, I had a drinking party with my work friends. We went to an izakaya within walking distance from Kyoto Station. The izakaya seemed to offer fresh seafood at a reasonable price. Since it was Saturday, the place was packed with people and we had to wait a bit to get in. Eventually, we were seated at the counter and tried the specialty, a mountain of potato salad. It looked a bit strange but tasted surprisingly good. We ordered various dishes such as ankimo, sashimi, and bamboo shoots, all of which were delicious. They also had classic izakaya items like chicken karaage and ham katsu. We ended the meal with some chicken ramen. Overall, it was a great seafood izakaya where you can enjoy tasty fish dishes.

I found this izakaya while in Kyoto for work and wanted to grab a meal before heading back. It's conveniently close to Kyoto Station and has a nice atmosphere. Plus, the prices are good. I have a feeling I'll end up eating too much. First, I tried the potato salad. It was presented in a mountain-like style with sauce drizzled on top, and it was delicious. I also enjoyed some eggplant and thought to myself that I really want some sake. I had some local Kyoto sake and then moved on to the generously portioned sashimi. It was worth more than the price. I also had a ham cutlet sandwich and a freshly made dashimaki tamago with Kujo green onions. It was amazing. The warm tamago paired well with the cold sake. For dessert, I had koyadofu, which was also delicious. It's great to find a popular izakaya like this in Kyoto that serves good food and is enjoyable.
