Located within walking distance from Kyoto Station, this quiet and unassuming traditional Japanese confectionery shop is always bustling with customers. I tried their "Mame Mochi" (180 yen) and "Sakura Mochi" (180 yen) for takeout. The "Mame Mochi" had a perfect balance of mochi, sweet red bean paste, and beans. The texture of the mochi was just right - not too firm and not too soft. The red bean paste blended seamlessly with the mochi, creating a harmonious combination. The beans were cooked just right, with a slight crunch that complemented the mochi and red bean paste. The sweetness of the red bean paste was subtle, and the saltiness of the beans was well-balanced, resulting in a delicious overall flavor. The simplicity of the taste was actually quite complex, leaving a lasting impression. The "Sakura Mochi" surpassed the "Mame Mochi" with its exceptional flavor. The marinated sakura leaf added a unique and delightful taste, combining perfectly with the simple mochi and red bean paste. Personally, this was the best sakura mochi I have ever had.

Not only delicious, but the landlady and staff are kind and polite ✨ It must have been years since I met such a gentle and soothing Kyoto person. The ohagi I ate in front of the store keeps coming back like a revolving lantern. Needless to say, the bean daifuku was also amazing.

A shop located a short distance from Kyoto Station. It is said to be a branch of Demachi Futaba. Prices are cheaper than the main store. Maybe the beans are a little less? The taste is not inferior to the main store, with a moderate sweetness and very delicious. Personally, if I have to line up at Demachi, I would choose to buy here instead of waiting in line.

It's about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station. It's a small place. It seems to be a branch of Demachi Futaba. I went in the afternoon, so there was hardly anything left, but there were a few bean cakes. They were filled with sweet bean paste, not too sweet, and had a light texture. I enjoyed them as they were quite delicious.

JR Umekoji Kyoto Nishi Station is a 10-minute walk from our shop. No parking available. Nanajo Futaba was established in Showa 6 by the late Naosakae Fukuda. After training at Demachi Futaba, Fukuda was recognized for his skills and opened his own shop under the name "Nanajo Futaba". Here, you can also enjoy the famous mochi. I visited Demachi Futaba yesterday, but the sidewalk in front of the shop was overflowing with customers, and there was a long line extending to the shrine across the intersection, so I had to give up. Be careful when visiting Demachi Futaba on weekends. In contrast, there are no lines here, which is nice. It's a small shop, but it exudes elegance and a sense of tradition. I visited on a Sunday afternoon, and there were about 10 mochi left. I purchased three mochi for 180 yen each, tax included. I immediately tried them before the mochi hardened. The mochi was appropriately soft, with plenty of beans inside. The balance of saltiness and sweet red bean paste was excellent. Personally, I felt that it was just as good as the mochi from Demachi Futaba. Avoiding the long lines and enjoying this deliciousness, I am completely satisfied with the mochi here. I look forward to stopping by again.

On May 9, 2021, Sunday, around noon, I visited a shop in Kyoto. Due to the state of emergency, there were very few customers, which was unusual as the shop is usually crowded. The atmosphere of the shop also seemed a bit worrying. I purchased two bean mochi and kashiwamochi. The taste was beyond amazing! I feel guilty for not knowing about this shop before. Especially the bean mochi, which seemed softer in other shops in Demachi, but here they maintain the traditional firmness. I need to do a taste comparison sometime!

I always use Demachi Futaba in my neighborhood, but today, on my way from another location, I made my first purchase at Shichijo Futaba. I bought bean mochi for souvenirs and for home use. Bean mochi is different from bean daifuku. Bean mochi is an original traditional sweet from Kyoto, so let's call it "bean mochi" correctly. I often see people saying you can buy without waiting in line, but Demachi Futaba is Demachi Futaba, and Shichijo Futaba is Shichijo Futaba. I hear that there are several Futaba shops in Kyoto that are branches of the original Futaba, but each shop is independent. Each shop has its own unique taste, so I hope you enjoy comparing them. Today, I tried the "bean mochi" from Shichijo Futaba for the first time, and it had a more refined taste than Demachi, with a slightly less sweet and salty flavor, and the mochi and beans were a bit firmer. Which one is better? As a lover of bean mochi, it's a matter of preference, so let everyone evaluate both. One thing I can say is that after eating the bean mochi from Shichijo Futaba today, I felt like having the one from Demachi. I will definitely come back to Shichijo as well. The price is 200 yen at Demachi and 170 yen at Shichijo, so you can enjoy delicious bean mochi for 30 yen cheaper.

I stopped by a Japanese confectionery shop along Shichijo Street, south of Nishi Honganji temple. The shop is called Shichijo Futaba, established in 1931. It seems to be a branch of the popular confectionery shop Demachi Futaba in Demachiyanagi. I bought a traditional Kyoto sweet called "Ankoro Mochi" to enjoy during doyo no iri, a custom in Kyoto. The mochi from Futaba is always delicious, so I also bought some from this shop. Ankoro Mochi is a sweet where sweet bean paste is wrapped in a mochi coating. It is different from Ohagi, as Ankoro Mochi has a smooth mochi texture without visible grains. When I cut it, the mochi was smooth and chewy. The shop's specialty, Mame Mochi, features red peas from Furano popping out of the mochi. Inside the chewy mochi is a generous amount of sweet bean paste, with the peas adding a nice touch. It was delicious and affordable. The shop is conveniently located near tourist attractions like Nishi Honganji and Kyoto Aquarium, making it a great place to stop by while sightseeing.

"Futaba" in Demachiyanagi, Kyoto is famous for its "mame-daifuku" (bean-filled rice cake), and is one of the representative traditional Japanese sweet shops in Kyoto where there is always a long line of customers. Today, I visited "Futaba Shichijo," which is one of the branch shops. I was introduced to this place by a colleague. I was able to purchase the "mame-daifuku" without having to wait. I will enjoy it with my family before dinner. Although the mochi part has become slightly firm after some time since it was made, the combination of the salty bean flavor and texture with the refined sweetness of the sweet red bean paste is exquisite. The elegant sweetness that blows away the fatigue of the day has me completely captivated.

Located east of Nijojinjamae Omiya, there is "Futaba" restaurant. I stopped by Futaba before heading to Hello Work next to Kyoto Station, riding my bicycle from Omiya Street to Nijojinjamae. It was my first visit. When I drive, I usually go to Demachiyanagi, so I never had the chance to visit here before. I tried the bean mochi and sakura mochi. Personally, I liked the sakura mochi better. The sakura flavor was good, and the chewy texture of the mochi was also great. Thank you for the meal (⌒∇⌒).

I happened to pass by and noticed a shop I had been curious about, so I quickly bought some rice cakes. The rice cakes were chewy and the saltiness was just right. I never knew rice cakes could be this delicious! They were not too sweet and very tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Futaba Shichijo in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City (JR Umekoji Kyoto Nishi). ♡ Strawberry Daifuku with high-quality coarse red bean paste and the acidity of strawberries is good ♡ Ohagi. I came to eat the popular rice cakes, but they were sold out. #Futaba Shichijo #Demachi Futaba #Umekoji Kyoto Nishi #Shichijo Street #Japanese sweets #Strawberry Daifuku #Ohagi #Daifuku #Sweets #Kyoto Sweets #Kyoto Gourmet #Sweets Lover #Kyoto Food Tour #Takeout #Love Plants Man #Love Sun #AIUEO #Let's Eat in Kyoto with Love Sun #instafood #Love Plants Man Sweets

There is a shop located across from Ryukoku University Omiya Campus in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City. "Futaba Mochi" costs 160 yen. It has a moist and chewy texture, with a smooth red bean paste and a delightful texture of Hokkaido Furano-grown red kidney beans. The perfect balance of mochi, red bean paste, and red kidney beans makes it a delicious mochi. Thank you for the meal! (^O^)/

It seems to have some connection to the Futaba in Demachiyanagi, but when I arrived around 1 pm, there was no one there. It's cheaper than the Fushimi Inari location, but the taste ultimately falls short. If you're already in Kyoto, I think it's better to wait in line and eat at the main store instead. ^^

Three-colored dango costs 160 yen, while sweet bean mochi costs 180 yen. The dango is chewy and delicious, and the sweet bean paste in the mochi has a very refined sweetness. The casual conversation of the elegant lady at the shop was very pleasant. I hope this shop continues for a long time.

On the way from Ume Koji to Kyoto, I stopped by a cute Japanese sweets shop. The sweets had whole Tanba chestnuts inside, not just pieces like in steamed yokan. The sweet bean paste was very delicious and had a great texture. The sweets were big and very satisfying to eat.

Visited during the day on March 21, 2022, and April 3, 2022. A curtain-sharing shop in Demachi Futaba. I had known about this place since my time living in Kyoto, but always missed the opportunity to visit. Finally, I made it! A budget-friendly mochi shop that is kind to both your body and wallet! On my first visit, the bean mochi I wanted was sold out. Today, I revisited after calling ahead to reserve the bean mochi. Honestly, I prefer the bean mochi here over the original shop. The mochi is excellent, with a chewy texture. The number of beans is fewer than the original shop, and perhaps because of that, the saltiness is more subtle. The sweetness of the sugar is the star in the bean paste rather than the saltiness. Both the mochi and bean paste at this shop are far more to my liking than the original shop. So in the future, if I want bean mochi, I will definitely visit this shop first. (Although I also have a desire to try the Futaba shop at Fushimi Inari.) **Purchased Items:** - Taste Department Store and souvenir shop wagashi are different from any item, all items go into the body without any burden (March 21, 2022) - Sakura Mochi (☆3.7) 180 yen: Good scent of cherry blossoms and a hint of saltiness from the leaves (April 3, 2022) - Bean Mochi (☆3.8) 180 yen: Excellent chewy texture of the mochi, the sweetness of sugar stands out in the bean paste without much saltiness - Strawberry Daifuku (☆3.6) 200 yen: Good accent of strawberry's acidity **Visit Records:** - Date & Time: March 21, 2022, 14:46 (First visit) / April 3, 2022, 10:23 (Second visit) - Location: About 50m east from the southeast corner of the intersection of Shichijo Omiya on the south side of Shichijo Street - Shop Situation: Traditional atmosphere of a local wagashi shop, no waiting in line on both visits, two friendly female staff members assisted (April 3, 2022) - Reviews: 33, MyReviewer: 3.38 (3 reviews), MyReviewer: 3.23

I stopped by after visiting Ryukoku Museum. Just half an hour ago, I was stuck in a sudden thunderstorm with heavy rain. It was a little past 3 o'clock, nearing evening. My goal was to get some "mochi." I've tried several times before, but it was always sold out. This time, I decided to try my luck and peeked into the shop... and there it was, the "mochi"! Of course, there was no long line like at Demachiyanagi, so I quickly ordered and bought enough for my family without any trouble. I sent a message to my family saying "I got it," and their response was "Yay!" I hurried back to Kyoto Station and then home to enjoy the "mochi"... It was delicious! It's just as good as the one from Demachiyanagi, but 40 yen cheaper per piece, and the quality is just as great. The best part is that you can buy it without waiting in line, and it's conveniently close to Kyoto Station. If you're lucky enough to get some, there's no problem with buying it here.

I had been interested in this shop for a while. It faces Shichijo Street and there is no parking space for cars, making it difficult to visit. I happened to be nearby so I decided to stop by. The shop is called "Futaba", and it is similar to a shop in Demachiyanagi. The items they sell are also quite similar. I bought some rice cakes and they were delicious. You can buy them without waiting. Thank you for the meal.
