I used this restaurant for lunch on a holiday in November 2020. The restaurant is located on the way up the mountain path (stairs) towards Jingoji Temple. By the way, it seems that there are about 400 steps to Jingoji Temple. Only those with strong legs can come here. If you are not confident in your physical strength, it's better to come when you are young. At the entrance building, you pay first and receive a number tag. There are a few seats inside the restaurant, and the rest is outdoors. You can sit wherever you like. The Yuba Udon (850 yen) had thin, soft noodles that might be easy for the elderly to eat. The Yuba had a gentle flavor. The udon tasted normal, but the view is nice and it lifts your mood.

I went up to Kango-ji Temple and found a shop on the way, so I stopped by on the way back. It was so nice to eat something sweet in the beautiful autumn leaves with a tired body. The specialty rice cake looked like Ise's Akafuku. I wish I could have stayed there longer because it was so pleasant. Thank you for the meal.

After visiting the Kangoji Temple, I took a break at the Suzuriishi Teahouse located along the approach. The atmosphere of the teahouse surrounded by autumn leaves was really lovely! I tried the fresh yuba udon (850 yen). The udon was slightly soft, and the yuba and broth were delicious! I felt soothed and relaxed while gazing at the orange-colored autumn leaves.

I visited the famous autumn foliage spot, Jingoji Temple. It was quite a journey down the valley, across the river, and up the mountain to finally reach the location. The temple seemed to be focused on mountain asceticism, so I made sure to brace my legs for the visit (I fell in Kanazawa recently and my bruises and sprain haven't fully healed yet). Since I hadn't eaten breakfast, I decided to have a brunch here. There were a few other places I wanted to try, but I chose this one specifically because I could enjoy the autumn foliage while dining. I didn't have high expectations for the food, but I chose to visit here for the atmosphere. I ordered at the counter, received a number tag, and chose a table with a view of the autumn leaves. The dishes were like those you would find at a tea house or rest area in a shrine or temple. The food was served promptly to the table. The oden was sweet, and the hot tofu had few toppings (I used the kelp as a snack!). I also tried the "Tsukasakura CAP ACE" for the first time. Ambient: ★★★☆☆ Day drinking: ★★☆☆☆ (They offer beer, sake, and hot sake, with 3-4 side dishes available) Notes: Self-serve tea, soap in the restroom. Today's treats: Oden, hot tofu, atsukan.

Collaboration between Anko and Domyoji: "Momiji Mochi"
Two years ago, I visited Kyoto from Tokyo by Shinkansen, which took about two hours and forty minutes. From Kyoto Station, I took a bus for about an hour to reach Kangoji. Walking along the approach from Takao bus stop, I encountered the welcoming sight of a raccoon dog made of Shigaraki ware. I couldn't resist making a detour, and it turned out to be a great decision! I enjoyed my first experience of "momiji mochi."
Sitting in the tatami room, I savored the bite-sized momiji mochi while admiring the autumn leaves in the rain. It felt as though the divine protection of the soon-to-be-revealed national treasure, the Yakushi Nyorai, had already manifested.

April 8th, daytime. Enjoyed cold amazake, milk sweet potato shaved ice, and maple leaf-shaped mochi. The maple leaf-shaped mochi from Domyoji was delicious. It helped me recover from the fatigue of climbing the stone steps and rejuvenated my energy.

A wonderful place to enjoy a meal in a beautiful setting is the tea house along the approach to Koko Shrine in Takao. This restaurant is included in a list of places where you can dine while admiring the autumn leaves. It is also featured on the cover of a DVD about Kyoto's autumn foliage, making it one of my favorites.

Maple leaf udon and maple leaf mochi are delicious. The maple leaf mochi is a small, perfect bite-sized sweet red bean paste on soft mochi.

In the middle of the approach to Shimogamo Shrine, there is a famous item called "Momiji Mochi" for 650 yen, which is made with delicious Doamyouji mochi and homemade sweet red bean paste. There are delicious specialties as well as famous items. It must be a wonderful place to visit during the autumn foliage season, nestled among the trees.

After enjoying the beautiful autumn leaves at Shingoji Temple, take a break at the nearby Kensuitei. It's a tea house commonly found near temples, but the location is just perfect! Relax while gazing at the stunning autumn leaves, and enjoy some red bean rice cakes and sweet sake. Kensuitei is located on the way to Shingoji Temple, so it's recommended for a quick break along the way. I stopped by after visiting the Shingo-ji Temple in Kaohsiung. It felt like a tea house. The most popular seats seemed to be the ones by the window, offering a great view. I saw a Chinese couple in wedding attire having their photos taken, and the photographers looked like professionals, so it might have been for an advertisement. I ordered the countryside hot pot for 1150 yen, but it never arrived, as it seemed they had forgotten my order. It had shrimp tempura, fish cake, green onions, and mountain vegetables. It was disappointing that the udon noodles were missing. The soup was not bad in taste. The falling autumn leaves created a nostalgic atmosphere.

I stopped by after seeing the autumn leaves at Jingo-ji Temple. It was around 12:00 on a Sunday. It's a bit crowded because it's the autumn leaf season. You order and get a seat yourself, buy a meal ticket, and get a number tag. When your food is ready, they call your number and bring it to you when you respond. Tea is also self-service. The hardest part is finding a seat. Everyone is aiming for a spot with a good view. We lost the battle and managed to sit in a tatami room-like place with a roof and vinyl curtains (like a temporary hut). But in the end, this seat was good. It was a windy day, so the vinyl blocked the wind. The soba was not particularly special, but it was just delicious soba. The momiji mochi (autumn leaf-shaped rice cake) was very delicious. I think it said they used shiratamako (sweet rice flour) outside the store. The refined taste of freshly made delicious mochi rice was solid. Eating soba and mochi in a lovely view was a delightful moment.

It is located halfway along the approach to Jingoji Temple, making it a perfect spot to take a break. During the autumn foliage season, you can enjoy the maple leaves from the seats here. This time, I ordered the maple mochi that was featured in the guidebook. The tea is self-service, like at a cafeteria, with a hot water dispenser. The taste of the tea is also similar to that style. The maple mochi is made by hand by the ladies after you order. The taste is like a small, slightly salty ohagi. It's not bad, but when they told me it was 630 yen, I wondered if most of it was for the location. It tasted good when I had it after visiting Jingoji Temple and feeling exhausted, but not so much before going there (laughs). I think I'll pass on the maple mochi next time. Maybe I'll try something udon-related next.
