I received some sweets from this shop. They are called "tea sweets". They are made of matcha-flavored langue de chat cookies sandwiched with white chocolate. The crispy texture of the langue de chat cookies combined with the matcha flavor spreads in your mouth. The bitterness of the matcha goes well with the white chocolate. It's delicious.

Arashiyama is always crowded with tourists, making it difficult to enjoy food without waiting in long lines. However, I stumbled upon a shop called "Chachabou" with no wait time. Although it is a souvenir shop, they make your order on the spot. I tried the Chachabou for 401 yen, which had crispy choux pastry with delicious matcha ice cream. I also had the rich Matcha Shake, which was thick and tasty.

This shop is a go-to place for souvenirs from Kyoto, especially for tea sweets. It is great for both giving out as gifts and enjoying at home, and it is conveniently located. I visited the shop on a weekday before 3 pm, and there were no other customers. Despite being right in front of the station, it is relatively easy to shop here. [Items purchased] - Water Mont Blanc ¥369 - Kiyomi no Shizuku ¥389 - Ryocha no Ka 5 pieces ¥695 - Mont Blanc Cream ¥450 Our favorite is the Mont Blanc Cream! It has a long shelf life and can be enjoyed with ice cream or spread on bread. It is very versatile. Our go-to snack after returning from Kyoto is a combination of Senbei crackers, ice cream, and Mont Blanc Cream. The tea sweets I tried for the first time were the summer version, without the cream filling and with chocolate mixed into the dough. Although I prefer the cream-filled ones, these were also delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this store located in a mall right across from Arashiyama Station on the Arashiyama Dentetsu line to try their exclusive matcha ice eclair, which is said to be delicious. The balance of sweetness and the bitterness of matcha is just right, and it's so good that you could eat as many as you want, but I restrained myself to just one!

Family trip to Kyoto during summer vacation. Taking a break at Maalbranche while strolling in Arashiyama. [Summary] Orange Ice Pop: 251 yen Small-sized ice pop, about 50x30mm in size and 10mm thick. Contains a lot of fruit pulp, with a refreshing bitterness that is very invigorating. Chachabo: 401 yen Will definitely come back for this. So delicious. Matcha soft serve is good, but the salted hachijo-shu pastry dough is really addictive.

I visited various shops in the Arashiyama area, and this shop stood out as my favorite. While souvenir sweets are often lacking in quality, the sweets here are delicious! I purchased the "Tea Sweets," "Cool Tea Sweets," "Lalala Madeleine," and "Green Tea Sweets." The "Tea Sweets" and "Cool Tea Sweets" with their crunchy langues de chat base were particularly surprising as souvenir sweets!

Maruburanshi's "Tea Sweets" is a must-buy souvenir in Kyoto, with a nice hint of bitterness that is delicious. The location is very easy to find. Nearby, "Youjiya" is also very popular. The "Kuromaru" at eX cafe is also delicious.

Whenever I come to Arashiyama, I always end up eating here! I love how they put soft serve on top after you order, so the choux pastry is always crispy and delicious. Weekdays are not crowded, so that's the best time to go. But even when it's busy, the staff always provide polite service, which is great!

MarieBelle Blanche is a place I often visit for treats, and this time I went to MarieBelle Blanche Arashiyama store located in front of Randen Arashiyama Station for the first time! The interior was more compact than I imagined, but the location is excellent as it is on the main street "Nagatsutsumi Street" where everyone passes by when visiting Arashiyama. I came here to try their store-exclusive item "Matcha Stick" (401 yen). I imagine it was introduced as a snack for people walking around Arashiyama. There are chairs placed in front of the store, so you can sit down and enjoy your treat. I thought it was a matcha cream eclair, but it turned out to be an ice eclair! In simple terms, it's like matcha soft-serve on a firm choux pastry. The choux pastry had a hint of saltiness to balance out the sweetness. It was delicious, but I don't think I'll come back for more. I recommend their classic "Tea Sweets" as souvenirs (although I forgot to take a picture). Thank you for the meal. Next time, I want to have tea at the Kitayama Main Store!

When you come to Kyoto, you can't help but buy "Chanoka" by Maaru Blansh. They are exquisite sweets representing the refined culture of Kyoto. Made from tea leaves grown in carefully cultivated tea fields, each with its own unique characteristics influenced by the climate and soil. The tea leaves are carefully selected by a tea connoisseur to ensure consistent quality. The aroma of rich tea will soothe your senses when you taste them. If you love tea and don't mind matcha, I highly recommend these sweets. During my visit around 10:30 am, I was initially planning to just buy the limited edition eclair called "Chanabou", but ended up purchasing the largest box of "Chanoka" at the register (laughs). I also bought a small amount of the limited edition chocolate sweets out of curiosity, which tasted similar to a well-known Japanese chocolate. The eclair with matcha ice cream was the highlight, with a crispy cookie base and flavorful matcha ice cream filling. The combination was perfect! It may be a bit messy to eat, so it might not be ideal for a date, but the ice cream was delicious. Make sure to visit early as they tend to sell out quickly, as they did by 11 am.

I tried the Tea Stick Ice Eclair Arashiyama limited edition, but it was a bit different than I expected. The eclair part had a strong meringue texture, not quite like a traditional eclair. It had a hint of saltiness and a slight cinnamon flavor. The matcha soft serve on top was generous in portion.

I was able to take some time off and went to Arashiyama in Kyoto! With the situation improving due to the end of the pandemic, it was my first long trip in a while. When I arrived, there were many elderly tour groups and school children on a field trip, making the place lively. It seemed like about 70-80% of the usual crowd had returned compared to before (pre-COVID). While looking for souvenirs, I stumbled upon "Maaruburanshu" where they sell a snack called "Tea Sweets" that I love. Tea Sweets are made with carefully selected Uji tea leaves, with a matcha-flavored langues de chat biscuit and white chocolate filling. The balance between the slight bitterness of matcha and the sweetness of white chocolate is exquisite. It's not too bitter, so unless you really dislike matcha, you'll enjoy it. It goes well with coffee, black tea, or green tea. I bought a box for myself this time, but they also have a "Arashiyama Limited Edition" packaging which makes it a perfect souvenir from Arashiyama.

I've always wanted to try this dessert called Chacha Bo, and it did not disappoint! It looks pretty and most importantly, it's delicious! The dessert consists of a crunchy pastry base similar to an eclair, topped with a generous amount of delicious matcha soft serve ice cream.

(10/16, visit) When I realized that I had only bought items with a mature taste like "chirimen sansho," "mackerel sushi," and "kinpira sugar," I decided to get a more traditional souvenir, so I headed to this place right in front of the Arashiyama Station on the Randen Arashiyama Line! The stylish and beautiful interior displayed many Kyoto-style sweets made with matcha, but what caught my eye was the "chanoka" sweets designed to look like bonsai trees! Chanoka is essentially a langues de chat cookie with a rich matcha flavor, made from stone-ground first-picked tea leaves to fully enjoy the original taste of matcha. The combination with white chocolate was truly exceptional. Another unique item was the "horohoro chouko reitou," a Kyoto-exclusive product with flavors like black sugar shichimi, black soybean kinako, matcha, yuzu, and white sesame, which my wife secretly purchased without me knowing! I chose the matcha flavor, which was packed in a unique package not in a box but sandwiched between two boards, with a playful and cute design even on the rubber band that held the boards together (probably forming the characters "Kyoto" and "M"). The square shape resembling a go board added to the Kyoto charm. When you bite into it, it feels like you're eating powdered sugar, a new texture sensation of "horohoro"! The matcha flavor was also delicious. I haven't had many good experiences with souvenir sweets, but the sweets from Maalbranche are visually and taste-wise satisfying, overturning the concept of souvenirs.

A couple visited Kyoto together, starting from the western side this time. They found a limited edition ice eclair in Arashiyama and tried it. Summary: "Chacha Bo" priced at 401 yen. A soft serve ice cream topped eclair with a thickness of about 40x40mm and a length of 140mm. It has a deep matcha aroma and a sweet buttery scent. The eclair has a crispy texture similar to a salt cookie, sablé, or choux pastry. The saltiness makes you sweat and feels like summer. The mild sweetness of the matcha soft serve enhances the overall taste. Initially, you taste the calm flavor and sweetness of matcha, followed by the richness of butter, and finally, the sharpness of good quality rock salt. It is quite delicious and refreshing. It is a sweet and salty dessert following the trend of salted caramel.

Marie Blanche Arashiyama Store 1F Arashiyama Shoryuen, Saga Tenryuji Monzen, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture Matcha Eclair ¥400 Arashiyama food walk part 2. Marie Blanche located in front of Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Line! The Matcha Langue de Chat called "Chano Hana" seems to be popular, and when I entered the store, I was allowed to sample one per person! I purchased the Matcha Eclair with matcha soft serve on top as part of my gourmet food walk! The pastry itself is crunchy and the matcha soft serve is rich and delicious. The price is a bit high, but the Langue de Chat is also recommended! LOL.

Matcha sweets are famous, and whenever I go to Kyoto, I always end up buying them. In Arashiyama, you can try an ice cream eclair called "Chacha Bo" from Marbland. The matcha ice cream is rich, but what really stands out is the matcha powder sprinkled on top. It's very matcha-flavored! This matcha dessert is very satisfying. Marbland never disappoints!

Marie Blanche, famous for their tea sweets, also has a store in Arashiyama. I went there specifically for the Arashiyama store exclusive matcha ice eclair called "Chachabo," but unfortunately it was sold out. Instead, I got a Marie Ice Pop to go, which you can also enjoy sitting down in the store. They offer three flavors: "Rich Matcha," "Strawberry, Berry & Milk," and "Orange & Lemon Peel." The Orange & Lemon Peel flavor (251 yen) is refreshing and perfect for a hot day. Available at both the Kiyomizuzaka store and the Arashiyama store.

Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always feel like I must visit one of the Marunouchi stores. And this time too (laughs), I came to the store in Arashiyama. I looked around the store but didn't find any new products, so I decided to purchase small packs of tea-flavored sweets and green tea-flavored sweets, each containing 3 pieces, which seemed like a good souvenir. The only thing I always buy at Marunouchi is the tea-flavored sweet with white chocolate sandwiched in langue de chat. I have tried other sweets like green tea-flavored sweets and pies, but I haven't repeated them. This time, after the forty-ninth day memorial service for my father who passed away in April, I also selected a set of these two sweets as a return gift and sent it to someone, so I wanted to taste the flavors myself. The tea-flavored sweet with rich matcha langue de chat and white chocolate sandwich was delicious as always. The green tea-flavored sweet was like a moist and rich green tea and white chocolate mixture. I chilled it well before tasting it, but hmm... what is it? It's a bit greasy or something. Since it's a small block-type sweet, I cut it into small pieces and after about half, I thought, "I'm good now." I wished I had just chosen a set of tea-flavored sweets. I have a feeling that our family will stick to repeating only the tea-flavored sweet with white chocolate sandwiched. Ease of reservation - Revisit rate: ★★★★, but for takeout, only the tea-flavored sweet with white chocolate sandwich. Thank you for the meal!

A shop that sells traditional tea sweets. Don't dismiss it just because there's one at Kyoto Station; this shop has limited edition tea sweets. Conveniently located across from the Arashiyama Randen Station, it might be worth buying from here. [Purchased Items] 5 pieces of tea sweets (limited edition packaging) ¥750. Tea sweets are becoming a popular Kyoto souvenir, but with a different package, it feels a bit special. It's a little pricey, but still within an acceptable range. They let you try a whole piece as a sample, so you can buy with confidence! For some reason, they also included an extra piece in the bag when I made my purchase. Very generous! Plus, the staff was incredibly kind. It was drizzling that day, but they didn't show any signs of annoyance and even offered to put a plastic bag over the paper bag from another store to keep it dry. I didn't even have to ask; they just said, "If you'd like..." It would have been a problem if it got wet and tore, so I really appreciated it. I'll definitely buy from here again when I come to Arashiyama! Thank you so much.
