"Nishiki Market's specialty shop founded in 1928, specializing in dashimaki tamago. Since its establishment, they have maintained the same taste with traditional techniques. The dashimaki tamago that adorns the dining tables in Kyoto is a must-have delicacy for special occasions and New Year's osechi dishes. Using the clear dashi made from the 'Ido water' of Nishiki and abundant Rishiri kombu, they slowly extract the umami flavor of the kombu to the maximum. With carefully selected ingredients like urume bushi, Motosu bonito, and mackerel flakes, they create a unique and flavorful dashi for their dashimaki. The dashimaki tamago at Sanmoku Tamago is still hand-cooked by artisans, using a copper tamagoyaki pan specially made by 'Yuji'. The 'Kyomaki' style, where they roll from front to back, creates a fluffy and soft dashimaki with a rich dashi. The skilled artisans are able to use three large pans simultaneously, showcasing their exceptional technique. During the busy year-end period at Nishiki, many artisans come together to work. The 'Dashimaki (large)' (1,300 yen) - as shown in the photo. I received two packs of the dashimaki tamago. It is a gentle and flavorful dashimaki with a delicate dashi taste. Some may find it too light or lacking in flavor if they are accustomed to strong flavors, but this is the taste of this shop that many people seek out. Both tourists and locals have cherished this shop for a long time."

In Nishiki Market, I enjoyed some morning food walking. I found a dashimaki tamago burger for 500 yen. It was a mini size, easy to eat. When food walking, I like to try a variety of things in small portions, so the size was just right. I bought it without knowing much, but I heard that Miki Tamago is a famous dashimaki tamago shop in Kyoto. The taste was amazing! The dashimaki tamago from a famous shop in Kyoto was on a different level. It wasn't salty, but had a rich dashi flavor, smooth texture, and it melted in the mouth. It paired well with the bread. I highly recommend it for breakfast.

"Established in 1928, the long-established egg shop 'Miki Eggs'. Long time no see. The dashimaki (¥530) is delicious... Eating it after a long time, it's still tasty. The texture is not as fluffy and creamy as it could be in a Japanese restaurant, but when eaten at home in a cold state, it's surprisingly delicious. While their main business is supposed to be eggs, the presence of dashi is quite strong."

On Saturday around 4 pm, the selection was decent. I was looking for cream puffs, but they were out, so I got a rolled omelette sandwich instead. The bread was average, but the rolled omelette was delicious and to my liking. It had a nice balance of sweetness and dashi flavor. There was mustard mayo spread between the bread and omelette, but it wasn't overpowering, which was nice.

"Kuromon Market" has a history of about 400 years and thanks to the Showa era well water project, most stores have underground water circulating. This market, along with the underground water, is rare nationwide and supports Kyoto's food culture with many excellent shops, including those where you can buy market products and eat in. One famous shop in the market, specializing in rolled omelets, was established in 1928. I had tried it a long time ago and had average expectations seeing the name "Miki Chicken Eggs", but it was just good within the normal range. Fast forward to late December 2022, I decided to try the "Rolled Omelet (small size for 530 yen)" again. I purchased it and enjoyed it at "Tango TABLE," one of the six shops in Kuromon Market where you can eat purchased items. The omelet had a gentle and mellow dashi flavor and aroma. Overall, it was satisfying but lacked that extra something I remembered from before. If you're looking for takeout options, there are other amazing rolled omelet shops like "Sugiichi Shidashi-ten," where Ryoma Sakamoto also ate, and "Iyo Mata," a super old shop in the market. Although the small size for 530 yen felt a bit expensive, I indulged in a luxurious combination of the omelet, mackerel sushi from "Iyo Mata," and craft beer from Tango. Sharing and enjoying market foods in Kuromon Market is one of the pleasures. My recent rolled omelet experience fell slightly below my expectations with a total score of 3.49 in December 2022, but this is just my personal opinion. If you're interested, don't hesitate to try it out."

This is a visit from last November. Whenever I come to Nishiki Koji, I always make sure to stop by this place. It's a shop where you can enjoy my favorite Kyoto-style "dashimaki." I had it freshly made and piping hot. The depth of flavor from the lightly seasoned dashi is amazing! It's truly exceptional when it's freshly made and piping hot!! The photos of the dashimaki and the shop, as well as the ones taken at Kiyomizu-dera and Kiyomizu-dera after this visit, are included. The last photo is of the arcade in Nishiki Koji, where I was surprised to see a giant QR code when I looked up. It used to be ukiyo-e posters before. Kyoto is a city that values its old culture and traditions, but at the same time, it is always incorporating new things to survive. I always get that impression.

I stopped by when I was exploring Kyoto's Nishiki Market. There were packaged egg rolls and bread on display. Originally, I planned to eat the egg roll on the train ride back, but I visited earlier than expected and was feeling a bit hungry, so I ended up eating both items at a different location. The "Dashimaki Tamago" was priced at 530 yen and was wrapped in a beautiful green packaging. I chose the plain type, which had a perfect balance of dashi flavor, egg aroma, and a hint of salt, making it very delicious. I usually struggle to find egg rolls with the right balance of flavors, but this one was just right and I personally loved it. The "Kogane An Pan" was priced at 190 yen and had a small yellow bean paste filling inside a bread with white sesame seeds on top. The egg yolk-based filling had a nice egg flavor and a dense texture, providing a satisfying experience despite the small size. The bread itself was quite basic and could have used a bit more flavor. I would love to try the egg roll with additional ingredients or the dashi yaki sandwich if I have the chance again.

On this day, after enjoying a smoked parfait at "parfait smoke" in Kyoto, I stopped by a bookstore recommended to me and picked up a back issue featuring parfaits. On my way to dinner at "Tomikoji Yamagishi," I walked along "Tomikoji Street" and had some time to spare, so I visited the bustling tourist spot of "Nishiki Market." There, I found a shop called "Miki Egg" which specializes in dashimaki tamago, a traditional Kyoto dish. I remembered visiting this shop during a previous trip to Kyoto before I started using Tabelog. The shop was featured on a TV show called "Secret Kenmin Show" as a favorite among Kansai locals who love dashimaki set meals. I purchased a small dashimaki tamago for 530 yen, which the shop prides itself on for its dedication to using high-quality dashi stock made with Rishiri kelp, as well as carefully selected bonito flakes. The dashimaki tamago was soft and fluffy with a subtle and elegant dashi flavor. The next morning, I enjoyed it for breakfast at my hotel, and it was absolutely delicious.

I didn't go on a food tour, I ate in the car lol. It was full of ingredients and delicious!! There are several shops in Nishiki Market that sell dashimaki, I wonder which one is the best... I'm also curious about the dashimaki sandwich. It would be nice if there was one nearby.

I tried the Custard Cream Bread from Miki Tamago at Nishiki Market in Kyoto for 260 yen. It was my first time visiting, and I had heard good things about it. The custard cream made with eggs from Miki Tamago was indeed different and flavorful. The bread itself was dense and satisfying, but it did feel a bit heavy in the throat. Overall, it was delicious. Located at 182 Higashi Uoya-cho, Nishiki Nishi-iru, Tomiko-ji, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto.

I was surprised to find that the first customer I visited was right next to Nishiki Market. Since it would be rude to visit during lunchtime, I decided to kill time by walking around and stumbled upon a tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) shop. I decided to buy tamagoyaki and bread since I was already there. - Small Tamagoyaki: 530 yen (including tax) It has an elegant Kyoto-like flavor with a strong dashi taste. However, I prefer it with less dashi flavor compared to the one I make at home. - Custard Cream Bread: 260 yen The custard cream with plenty of egg is delicious. However, the bread itself is a bit dry and not very tasty. The overall quality of the bread is not very high. - Egg Yolk Anko Bread: 190 yen This is a luxurious anko (sweet red bean paste) made with plenty of egg yolk. It has a perfect moist and delicious texture when combined with the white anko. However, the bread itself is not that great. Date of Visit: December 16, 2021

●●Order●● I chose the "Kujou Negi Maki" for 910 yen! ●●Dashimaki●● The sweetness of the eggs is distinct, making it a very delicious dashimaki. The Kujou Negi (leek) also adds a nice accent to it! ●●Overall impression●● It may be a bit pricey, but it was a delicious dashimaki! It may not exceed expectations, but if you're craving dashimaki, I recommend it (*´-`)

■Visit Date: June 26, 2021■Items Received: Dashimaki Tamago (Rolled Omelette) - Medium■MEMOI visited this establishment on June 26, 2021. It is a historic dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette) shop boasting 93 years of tradition located in Kyoto's Nishiki Market. It is a well-known shop among those in the know. Since coming to Kyoto, I had been avoiding Nishiki Market due to the crowds of tourists and inbound visitors, making it almost impossible to walk through. However, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant increase in local visitors, creating a more manageable shopping environment. Today, I experienced shopping at Nishiki Market for the first time. The first shop I visited was this dashimaki tamago shop. They offer various types of egg dishes, but I purchased a medium-sized traditional dashimaki tamago. It has a beautiful color and the taste is outstanding, with a rich and delicious flavor. Personally, I was very happy to be able to eat this. It was a highly satisfying dashimaki tamago. They have a variety of options, so I would like to purchase from them again on another occasion.■Blog Posthttps://ay-style.net/?p=61750

Miki Tamago in Kawaramachi, Kyoto is a famous shop known for its dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette). The dashimaki chuu (700 yen) has a strong dashi flavor while bringing out the natural sweetness of the egg, making it delicious! It's fluffy and has a taste that kids would enjoy, but it's also sophisticated for adults. I finished it in no time and really liked it. The Fukusayaki (180 yen) contains mitsuba, onion, green peas, carrot, and corn, with a strong dashi flavor. It's tasty, but personally, I prefer the regular dashimaki that allows you to enjoy the natural sweetness of the egg. The Kizami An Pan (170 yen) is a bread with a sweet bean paste filling. It's like a bread version of manju. The dashimaki tamago was incredibly delicious.

Established in 1928, this is a long-established shop specializing in rolled omelettes located in Nishiki Market. The rolled omelette (¥480) was delicious! The egg flavor is not very strong, but the refined taste of Japanese dashi is rich and light at the same time. Each layer is very thin and delicate. The yellow bean paste bun (¥170) was also tasty, but not as expected. It has egg yolk mixed into white bean paste, but the egg yolk flavor is not very strong, so it feels like eating a regular white bean paste bun. However, it was delicious with a refreshing sweetness. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I bought it as a souvenir - walked through Nishiki Market - got a dashimaki (medium) for ¥700. Ate it at home on the same day - it has a smooth and tender texture. The aftertaste is fragrant with dashi. It's quite different from the dashimaki in Osaka that I know. I would like to eat it fresh as it still smells good even when it cools down. Thank you for the meal.

Looking for breakfast, I headed to Nishiki Market. However, most of the shops were still closed with shutters down. It was before 9:00, and I thought markets were supposed to open earlier, but maybe Nishiki Market is different? Or perhaps it's due to the pandemic, with some shops closed as a precaution? I decided to keep walking, hoping to find something open. I really wanted to visit the egg shop, Miki Tamago, so I headed there. The popular dashimaki tamago I wanted was not ready yet, as it would be cooked by 9:00. Oh well... I decided to explore a bit more. I also visited the Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine and enjoyed the interesting mechanical dolls and other attractions. When I returned to the shop at exactly 9:00, the freshly cooked dashimaki tamago was just being displayed. There were many options, so I asked for a recommendation. The staff member didn't say anything and just went back inside the shop. I was a bit puzzled, wondering if they were prioritizing the freshly cooked eggs over serving customers. After a while, the staff member returned with a tamago roll and said, "This one has Kujo green onions." It was like a scene from "The Moon and Sixpence" with this mysterious attitude! I couldn't take this back to my hotel, so I asked if I could eat it there. They gave me chopsticks, and as I split it open, a delightful aroma of dashi wafted out. I took a bite, and it was delicious! The flavor of the dashi, the aroma of the Kujo green onions, it was amazing. Not too salty, just the right balance of flavors. Unlike the disappointing breakfast I had the day before, this was truly delicious! I shared it with someone, but I could easily eat a whole roll by myself. The staff member who recommended it was spot on! Thank you so much! I also bought a "Tamago Maru" pastry, which was just okay.

And so, I visited "Miki Eggs" at Nishiki Market in Kyoto, a specialty store for takeout. They have a flavorful dashimaki tamago with plenty of dashi. The cream pan they make is filled with custard and rich in egg flavor. It's so delicious!

In the middle of Nishiki Market in Kyoto, there is a tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette) shop that also sells bread and is popular. I decided to stop by and check it out. It was around 5 pm on a Sunday, and the market was moderately crowded. The shop had a variety of tamagoyaki in the showcase, but I stuck to my original plan and bought some bread. I purchased the "Small Tamago-Yolk Anpan 5 pieces (¥450)" and also got the limited edition "Custard Cream Pan (¥230)." The "Small Tamago-Yolk Anpan" came in a box with a character drawn on it, making it a perfect souvenir. Although it said 5 pieces, there were actually 6 inside, which was a nice surprise. The bread was bite-sized with a thin outer layer and a tamago-yolk filling inside. The flavor was lightly buttery and the white bean paste had a subtle taste. The sesame seeds added a nice crunch. The "Cream Pan" was smaller than usual but had a rich custard flavor and smooth texture, which was quite impressive. The bread itself was delicious, but considering the price, it may make you hesitate. Overall, it was a popular bread that was worth trying at least once. I would like to try their tamagoyaki next time as well as they seemed to have other items for eating on the go.

For a dinner drink, I stopped by Miki Tamago Nishiki Market. There were surprisingly few tourists, making it easier to walk around compared to before. However, there were many people walking in the middle of the road, making it difficult to walk. I peeked inside and saw a small dish (480 yen), which seemed appealing. Although it was expensive, it was delicious. The scent of the cypress wood was also nice, probably from the hinoki cypress wood. However, it is indeed pricey.

The shelves in the store are filled with various types of rolls such as kelp rolls, conger eel rolls, Kujo green onion rolls, dashi rolls, and eel rolls. I purchased a yellow yolk bun, which had a soft texture and a mildly sweet yellow yolk filling that allowed you to enjoy the flavor of the egg yolk. Next time, I plan to try the custard cream bun and the castella pudding.
