Located in the back of the Kaohsiung area, where the autumn leaves are at their best, this restaurant is like a hidden gem. We stumbled upon it while walking along the road. Since we were off schedule, we were able to be seated without a reservation. We ordered the chicken miso hot pot (either as a set meal or a regular meal, I can't remember). Personally, I would rate the food as just passing, but the view outside is outstanding. You'll want to take pictures to remember it by. All seating is traditional tatami style, so if you're not comfortable eating in that style, it might be a bit challenging. My companion was amazed by the very unique Taisho-Showa retro style restroom.

I visited Noya-ya and it has a wonderful location! It's amazing to listen to the sound of the river and see the beautiful autumn leaves. I ordered Tororo Soba and although the taste was average, I felt very healed. Thank you for the meal!

I had lunch at Toganochaya near Takao's Kozanji Temple. It is located by the Kiyotaki River, and the riverside seats offer a great view and a wonderful atmosphere. I had the herring soba and mountain vegetable soba, each for 1100 yen. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly with minimal waiting time. The taste was average, but the service was good, and most importantly, we were able to enjoy the touristy atmosphere.

I enjoyed the autumn leaves from Shinnyo-ji Temple to Kogen-ji Temple, and finally arrived at Tadori Noya. The place I was seated at was a riverside spot along the clear stream of Kiyotaki River, where the changing colors of the trees in the season could be appreciated. I ordered a grilled mushroom and young chicken set meal, which was reasonably priced, and what came out was a lovely assortment of dishes such as carp sashimi and obanzai, allowing me to enjoy the landscapes of Kyoto and the mountains and rivers. I could open the window, feel the cool breeze from the river, and enjoy the delicious meal, forgetting time for a while. Thank you for the meal.

I walked to Takayama Temple on Mt. Takaomine and got a little tired. I decided to take a break at Toganocha-ya in front of the back approach to Takayama Temple. I can drink tea while looking at the beautiful river. I was guided to the back parlor. There was no one else there. It was like a private room. I ordered zenzai (sweet red bean soup) and matcha. I can also see the autumn leaves and hear the sound of the beautiful river. Oh... this is the best. I received a yuzu (citrus fruit) on my way out. Those who use the shop can receive it. When I get home, I'll take a yuzu bath~♪

After visiting Kiyomizudera Temple, we decided to stop by this restaurant for lunch since the bus only comes once an hour. We were seated by the river, enjoying the view of the lush greenery and the soothing sound of the water. It was a pleasant atmosphere for a meal and our conversation flowed easily. I ordered the tempura soba, which turned out to be more than I could eat, but it was delicious. Both the tempura and the soba were tasty. The staff was also very friendly.

The staff provided a small cup of cold water in response to the heat. The service was a bit strict but the food was delicious!

After enjoying the Bird and Animal Caricatures at Kozan-ji Temple, I checked the time for my bus back. I decided to stop by this charming restaurant right next to the bus stop. I was drawn in by the sign that mentioned dining with a nice view along the river. I ordered the Tempura Soba for 1,500 yen and a bottle of beer for 650 yen. It took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive, but the view outside the window was so pleasant that I didn't mind the wait. The soba was decent, nothing particularly special, but the portion was generous and satisfying. The tempura was crispy and delicious. The warm and friendly service also left a good impression. I would love to revisit the Kozan-ji area in mid-November when it's the peak season. I'm sure this restaurant will be bustling with customers then. Bon appétit!

The area around Takao was empty, probably because the autumn leaves had already fallen. It felt almost like having the place to ourselves. It was cold along the river due to the low airtightness, but it seemed like it would be pleasant in early summer. We walked about 5 kilometers from Saga-Arashiyama Station to Daikaku-ji, Shisendo, and the bus stop in front of Takao Hospital. My feet were already sore and tired from not being able to sleep on the night bus, so I wasn't particularly impressed by the food, which was priced like a tourist spot. Maybe the soba noodles would have been better? However, the staff were kind and the place wasn't crowded, so it helped to alleviate the fatigue. I would like to visit again if I have the chance to go back to the Takao area.

There are probably only two shops at this bus stop, and it's quite a distance to walk to get to another one. I decided to go down the stairs of the shop because I figured you can't go wrong with soba noodles. The view outside was of a big river, and it must be beautiful with autumn leaves. The interior had tatami mats and a traditional atmosphere. I ordered soba noodles and grilled ayu fish. The soba noodles were average, a bit lukewarm. The grilled ayu fish was also just okay. The prices were a bit high, but I guess it's expected in a tourist area.

During the autumn season, I decided to visit Takao in the northern part of Arashiyama to enjoy the autumn leaves. I was drawn to a tea shop with a history of over 130 years called Kozanji, located in front of the oldest tea plantation temple in Japan. I chose to sit by the river and eat, intrigued by the phrase "eating by the river". There were various menu options, from individual dishes to luxurious meals. Since I wasn't in a situation to eat a lot, I opted for the herring soba for 1,050 yen. The soba itself was average, maybe because it was boiled in a pot, it felt a bit stretchy. The broth, however, was well made and delicious, suitable for a trip. The herring was cooked lightly and tasty without being too heavy. The meal was good, but the river and autumn leaves in the background were quite something to behold.

I visited the famous Takayama-dera temple during the season of fresh greenery. As I had imagined, the location and atmosphere were exceptional. The traditional Japanese building by the stream, covered with fresh green maple leaves, was truly breathtaking. The menu options were not extensive, but they were sufficient for a satisfying lunch. We ordered soba, tofu hot pot, grilled sweetfish, and shared them as a family. It seems that ayu fish is a specialty here. The restroom was clean, but lacked Western-style toilets, which was difficult for my mother who has mobility issues. It would be great if they could provide at least one. Above all, the warm and attentive service from the hostess left a deep impression on me. While people in Kyoto are said to be cold towards visitors, the hostess here was completely different. I highly recommend visiting this place. You will surely be satisfied. During peak seasons like autumn foliage or holidays, it may get crowded. So, if possible, try to avoid peak times when visiting. Overall, it is a wonderful place.
