While strolling in Arashiyama, I came across a sign for the original "Yatsuhashi" and decided to buy the "Yatsuhashi yokan" that had caught my eye. I ended up purchasing three flavors: cinnamon, matcha, and chestnut. However, I misunderstood and realized that only the cinnamon flavor was actually Yatsuhashi-flavored yokan, while the others were just regular yokan. Despite being in mini sizes and convenient for souvenirs, as a local with a taste for unique items, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed with my purchase.

I visited the original Yatsuhashi shop in Arashiyama during my stay. Established in the Genroku era, over 320 years ago in Kyoto, this traditional shop uses carefully selected ingredients and skilled artisans to maintain their time-honored production methods. I tried their luxurious chestnut Yatsuhashi called "Kuri Ujibashi," which was filled with chunky sweet bean paste, whole chestnuts, and matcha. It was a treat for myself, and it was delicious. I will try their cinnamon flavor next time!

I had the best soft serve ice cream in terms of cost performance! The milk and matcha flavors were rich and delicious! It's perfect for a hot day in Arashiyama!

When it comes to souvenirs from Kyoto, the classic choice is Yatsuhashi. There are various types such as Sei, Otabe, and Yūko. This time, I purchased the chestnut-filled Yatsuhashi from the original Yatsuhashi store. The number of stores is relatively small compared to major brands. Normally, a pack of 10 costs around 500 yen, but this 8-piece pack was priced at 1,210 yen, which is a bit on the expensive side. However, since there was a chestnut lover among us, we decided to go for this option. There was also a regular version available, but we chose the Uji matcha flavor. It was quite luxurious with a whole chestnut in the middle. The chestnut lover in our group was very pleased with this choice. If you're looking for a slightly different Yatsuhashi experience, this could be a good option.

I was able to stop by again, so I visited the store again. I feel at ease shopping here because I always receive polite service. I bought some Yatsuhashi and also ordered drip coffee that was being sold at the store. The staff was very kind and helpful when I asked for sugar. I was very pleased. I definitely want to stop by when I go to Kyoto or Osaka.

After getting off the Randen train and crossing the street, I walked a little towards the direction of the Togetsukyo Bridge and found Yatsuhashi shop. I heard that their red bean paste Yatsuhashi is something you can only find at the original shop, so I decided to buy some. The red bean paste was very sweet and it was perfect as a snack with tea. The staff at the shop were very polite and I had a pleasant shopping experience.

I saw a sign for Yatsuhashi near Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama, so I decided to stop by. Yatsuhashi is a popular souvenir from Kyoto, and I often buy it at JR Kyoto Isetan or at the station. I don't know much about the manufacturers other than the three stores inside JR Kyoto Isetan, so I wanted to check it out. Personally, the taste was a bit different from what I prefer. However, I think it's a decent choice as a souvenir. The price is comparable to other manufacturers. Since it's close to Togetsukyo Bridge, it's a good place to stop by on the way back.

My friend's daughter went on a school trip to Kyoto. Normally it's a one night, two day trip, but due to the influence of COVID, it was a day trip. Despite being a day trip, it's good that they were able to go safely (*^^*) She brought back souvenirs for me♪ This "Yatsuhashi" is a version without the cinnamon that I don't like, so I enjoyed it♥️
