When I went to Kyoto, I visited a restaurant that I had been wanting to go to for a while. I couldn't make a reservation on the day, but since they had a lot of seats, I was able to get in without waiting. At this time of year, you can choose between outdoor terrace seating, indoor table seating, or counter seating, so you can change where you drink depending on your mood that day. I chose a table seat.
- Citrus Ale (715 yen): A refreshing beer with lime that is perfect for hot weather.
- Smoked Chicken Liver (649 yen): The smoked flavor is delicious, but the portion is a bit small for two people and a bit too much for one person.
- Cheese Assortment Small (748 yen): A perfect menu to enjoy while waiting for your food.
- Prosciutto and Nut Flower Salad (968 yen): A must-order! It looks beautiful and tastes delicious, with lots of healthy vegetables.
- Shrimp and Broccoli Ajillo (979 yen): A perfect dish to enjoy with bread and drinks.
- Fried Chicken with Nori (517 yen for 2 pieces): You can choose from 3 flavors. A classic dish.
- Penne Gorgonzola (858 yen): The cheese is so delicious, making the penne tasty too.
- Sausage (561 yen): Sausages are always delicious and go well with beer.
- Amber Ebisu (682 yen): I chose this beer for my second drink. It has a deep flavor and is excellent.
The beer and food were very satisfying. The only downside was that the staff in the hall were chatting. The restaurant seemed to be run by 3 part-time university students and 2 employees, and just before customers started coming in, the 3 students were chatting about university. It didn't seem bad individually, but when they gathered, they seemed to relax. If I were a staff member in this situation, could I give proper attention? Please let me know if you have any great ways to address this.
Later, foreign tourists came to the next table. The touch panel order pad can switch to English, but it's very confusing. I watched with concern, and suddenly 3 beers were delivered. The staff asked in Japanese, "Do you have the app?" and the foreigner replied, "NO." The staff then said, "Then it's the regular price." The staff smoothly communicated in Japanese. I imagine that the foreigner may have ordered one of the 3 beers with a half-price coupon in mind. The foreign tourists seemed to accept the 3 beers without fully understanding. I wonder if speaking English would have helped a little? Feeling a bit down about my own inadequacy, I went home. Anyway, the beer and food were incredibly delicious, so I plan to go again. The location is convenient, less than 5 minutes from JR Kyoto Station (on the 1st floor of Yodobashi).
