I ordered a chocolate cake and coffee while enjoying the beautiful cherry blossoms. They accepted credit card payment! They also offered light snacks. It was a relaxing experience. You can also see the culture of Gokokuji and Cartier's cherry blossoms! I would like to come back again during cherry blossom season.

A French? Western-style restaurant located in the Reihokan area of Daigo-ji Temple. We waited for about 45 minutes on this day. I had a flat mushroom cream pasta similar to kishimen and a herbal soup, with an additional dessert of cheesecake. The herbal soup was a consommé soup with ginger and onions. The soft serve ice cream on the cheesecake was refreshing and a nice touch after the meal. The "Daigo-ji Temple macaron" that came with it was more like a baked cookie than a chewy macaron, with a random pattern on top.

★Inside the precincts of Rikugien Temple. ★Stylish atmosphere. Great view. ★The cuisine, including the medicinal herb soup and hamburger, is delicious. I wondered if miso was in the hamburger sauce, but it turns out it isn't. I poured the hamburger sauce over the rice and finished it all. The hamburger is made with a blend of beef and pork, making it juicy. After visiting three temples on the "Winter Journey in Kyoto," we enjoyed coffee. ★Credit cards accepted for payment.

Located in the Reihokan area of Daigo-ji Temple. The fusion of Japanese and French cuisine created a nice atmosphere. Excited, I entered the restaurant. There was only one other customer, as it was just before the end of lunchtime on a weekday. The medicinal herb soup served first was flavorful with ginger and the sweetness of onions. Then, a three-tiered bento box was brought out, featuring tricolor colors. It looked nice! However, I felt that the portion was a bit small. You can choose between bread or rice, and I opted for half a serving of rice, which was served in a small pot. I wondered how the regular portion would be served. The hamburger steak seemed thin, almost invisible in the sauce. The salad was a simple green salad, and dessert consisted of two petit cakes and a marshmallow. Despite the nice atmosphere and price, I found the dishes to be a bit disappointing. The sauce on the hamburger steak was delicious, rich with butter. The petit cakes, though small, were flavorful. Some of the staff members were unfriendly, which was unfortunate.

I visited a restaurant near the Daigo-ji temple. Although it caters to tourists, the food was delicious. The view of the garden from the window, along with the scent of blooming fragrant olive, made for a wonderful lunch. I also had the opportunity to experience the 150-year-old Tai Gen Sui Daifuku, leaving a lasting impression.

You can enjoy your meal or tea while looking at a very nice atmosphere garden. The presentation of the food is stylish. I had the set menu of beef cheek red wine stew (salad, soup, bread, dessert, drink). The herbal soup was very delicious. The main dish, beef cheek red wine stew, had tasty meat but the flavor was a bit light and not very rich. The desserts, although there were three varieties, were very small and although tasty, I felt they were not satisfying enough. Maybe they put too much emphasis on the presentation? I wished there was a bit more volume. It's French cuisine and the garden is lovely, so the price is understandable, but overall it felt a bit lacking, perhaps because of the tricolor bento box.

Hideyoshi held a grand "Daigo no Hanami" event, so I also wanted to see the wonderful cherry blossoms at Daigoji Temple! Daigoji Temple is divided into three main areas: Sanboin, Garan Area, and the next area I visited was the "Reihokan Area." The Reihokan houses valuable treasures of the temple and is surrounded by cherry blossom trees. It was absolutely amazing! There is also a cafe called "French Cafe Le Clos sur Le Sillage - Under the Cherry Blossom Tree." It may seem surprising to find such a stylish cafe at a temple, but it perfectly fits the atmosphere. Inside, you can see the weeping cherry blossoms through the large windows. I managed to get a seat at the counter by the window. After some hesitation, I decided to go for something sweet: Soft Serve for ¥550, with a mix of matcha and milk flavors topped with a macaron featuring Toyotomi Hideyoshi's family crest. The macaron was crispy and chewy, delicious! The soft serve had a rich flavor and a refreshing aftertaste, making it easy to eat. Enjoying soft serve in a cafe while gazing at cherry blossoms is a wonderful experience. This cafe also serves lunch, with options like hamburger, beef red wine stew, and sandwiches. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. Thank you for the meal!

I finished my errands and went to my parents' house. It was lunchtime when I arrived, and my father, who stopped eating out due to COVID, suggested going out for lunch. So, we ended up going to a restaurant near Daigo-ji Temple. My father, who takes a walk to Daigo-ji Temple almost every day, had been to this restaurant before. It had been decades since I last visited Daigo-ji Temple. This time, we went to Daigo-ji Temple just for lunch. It was a cold weekday around 12:30 pm, and the Daigo-ji Temple parking lot was not crowded. The restaurant had no other customers when we arrived. Even though I wasn't very hungry, I ordered the Daigo-ji Temple Herbal Curry, while my father ordered the Juicy Hamburger set, which he had enjoyed before. The herbal soup that came with the curry was easy to eat, with a mild herbal and spice flavor. My father enjoyed the hamburger, but we both found the curry to be just average. The prices were quite high, especially with the additional cost for parking. It made sense that the restaurant was not crowded except during cherry blossom season. It seemed more geared towards tourists rather than locals.

Located inside the Daigoji Reihokan in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, French Cafe Le Clos sur les Sillage offers a unique dining experience under the cherry blossom trees. My companion ordered the Yama-dera herbal curry, while I opted for the French pasta. Both dishes came with a side of herbal soup, which was served first. The herbal soup, infused with ginger, was delicious. The Yama-dera herbal curry costs 1,155 yen, while the French pasta "Nouille" with mushroom Japone sauce costs 1,210 yen. The large windows provide a great view of the outside scenery, making it an ideal spot during cherry blossom season.

On October 3rd, my second activity of the day was visiting Daigo-ji Temple on Mount Daigo, the 11th stop of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto. The temple is spacious and known for its beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. You can still get a temple stamp without going all the way up to Uda Daigo. Be careful as it is said to be quite a challenging spot. After that, I replenished my fluids at Le Clos Surjete, a French-style café located on the temple grounds. The café has a cozy atmosphere with a glass facade, perfect for relaxing. I ordered a platter of three petit sweets and an iced tea. The desserts included a chocolate cake, macaron, and cheesecake, with the macaron having a hint of mandarin flavor. The iced tea was refreshing. Overall, it was a delightful experience. I only visited two places today due to time constraints, but I will definitely come back for more. (Visited on October 3, 2021)

I visited Daigo-ji Temple where the weeping cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Even on a weekday, there were many names on the waiting board for the restaurant. I wrote my name and went to visit the Reihokan, and when I returned, it was just the right time. Groups of people were waiting outside the restaurant, enjoying the cherry blossoms while waiting. I couldn't wait for more than 30 minutes alone. I had curry last fall, so this time I had a baguette sandwich. I was served a cafe au lait first. Luckily, I got the same great seat in the corner as last time. I gazed at the swaying weeping cherry blossoms and felt entranced. The set came with a herbal soup. It had a strong ginger flavor but was a bit mild for herbal soup. The baguette sandwich came in a box like a bento box. The bread had a nice crispy crust and was hot to the touch. It was filled with camembert cheese and pastrami beef, with honey mustard spread on it. The camembert cheese was warm and gooey. The texture of the bread was excellent and delicious. The potatoes were served with only a cherry tomato, I wish there was ketchup. The weather was nice and calm, it was a really good day to visit. Outside the restaurant, they were preparing for the night viewing of the temple for a TV show. Baguette Sandwich 990, Drink Set (Cafe au Lait) 385, including tax.

Casual French cuisine within the grounds of Daigo-ji Reihokan. The 11th stop of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, Daigo-ji, is originally located on top of a mountain and offers a light trekking course. However, due to damage from a typhoon two years ago, you can still receive a temple seal at the temporary Kannon Hall in Shimo-Daigo. I visited during the autumn season when the cherry trees were changing color. While Daigo-ji is usually crowded during cherry blossom season, it seems to be less popular for autumn foliage viewing, resulting in fewer people and empty shops. Despite being a temple, the cuisine served is French-inspired, or rather European-style curry. Surprisingly, the curry has a medicinal quality to it. Turmeric in curry is actually the same as the Chinese herb, turmeric, so it's essentially medicinal, right? The curry is smooth and tangy, infused with vegetable broth. It has a good balance of medicinal spices, seamlessly blending into the European-style curry. It's a smooth and drinkable curry that feels more like a beverage. The only drawback is the finely chopped onions that tend to stick to the corners of your mouth. Not exactly a dish you'd want to eat on a date! I was dining alone and had to wipe my mouth several times with a paper napkin during the meal. The ingredients in the medicinal soup are finely chopped, making it easy to eat without worry. The clear consommé had a clean and elegant taste, typical of dining out. I was surprised to find a restaurant within the temple grounds serving delicious curry. The image of Lord Nobunaga from "Hyouge Mono" savoring curry came to mind. Daigo-ji Medicinal Curry: 1155 yen including tax.

The other day, I visited Le Clo Sur Surige located inside Daigoji Temple in Kyoto. Since it was just before 3pm, they were only serving coffee at that time. I had a café au lait and a plate of three mini sweets. The small, cute sweets were quite tasty. From left to right, there was cheesecake, macaron, and gateau chocolat, with the macaron being the famous "Daigoji Temple macaron." The cheesecake and gateau chocolat were both rich and satisfying. The view from inside the café was also lovely, and I found myself losing track of time while enjoying it. Next time, I would like to try their authentic French cuisine.

Visited Daigo-ji Temple and had lunch at the French cafe on the premises of the Reihokan Museum. It's very quiet now, unlike the busy cherry blossom or autumn seasons. The cafe has a bright atmosphere with IKEA furniture and large windows offering a lovely view outside. I ordered French pasta (Nui) and herbal pork cutlet curry, both served with herbal soup. Also got some apple juice. The dishes arrived promptly as the place was almost empty. The Nui was flat pasta with mushrooms, bacon, and rich cream sauce. The herbal pork cutlet curry had crispy hot cutlet and slightly spicy curry. The herbal soup with ginger seemed healthy and perfect for the cold winter. It was a delicious meal in a cozy and casual setting. Thank you for the meal.

French cafe located in the Daigoji Temple in Kyoto. Despite its temple setting, the interior is spacious and inviting. While the main focus is on French cuisine, they also offer dishes with a hint of Japanese influence. The cafe serves a variety of baked goods, including the popular Kyoto Matcha Parfait. This dessert features a mix of Western and Japanese elements, such as white balls, matcha soft serve, red bean paste, matcha cheesecake, and a special macaron with "Daigoji Temple" printed on it. The matcha cheesecake is rich and slightly bitter, with a strong matcha flavor. It can stand alone as a dessert.

I had a hamburger. The hamburger itself was soft and delicious, and the stew-like sauce was also tasty. It's even more enjoyable when you dip the bread in the sauce. It was cherry blossom viewing season, so you could see the cherry blossoms in full bloom from inside the restaurant. The large windows offer a clear view of the outside scenery, making it feel like you are surrounded by cherry blossoms. The interior, designed by IKEA, is simple and stylish.

This time, I visited "French Cafe Le Clos sur Surjier," which was renovated and reopened in October last year. Located in the Daigoji Temple grounds in the Yamashina area of Kyoto, known for its cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, the cafe originally opened as "Cafe Sur Surjier" in 2017, and in October 2018, it was rebranded through a collaboration with the famous Scandinavian furniture company IKEA and Daigoji Temple. The cuisine is supervised by Chef Koji Kuroiwa, the owner of the authentic French restaurant "Le Clos" with branches in Paris and Osaka. The interior is decorated with IKEA furniture and decorations, providing a relaxing atmosphere. The dishes come with a herbal soup, inspired by the main deity of Daigoji Temple, Yakushi Nyorai. I tried the "Daigoji Temple Special Macaron with Gâteau Chocolat 'Stone Pavement of Daigoji Temple' served with Matcha Soft Serve," which is essentially a matcha soft serve parfait with a matcha gâteau chocolat. The matcha gâteau chocolat was surprisingly not too sweet, and the generous amount of soft serve was delicious. The Western cuisine seemed authentic and appetizing. I would like to try their lunch menu next time. If you're curious, why not stop by and give it a try?

We visited this restaurant for lunch after visiting Daigo-ji Temple in conjunction with a special viewing at Sanbo-in. The restaurant had a bright and stylish interior with large windows, offering a view of the garden. We were lucky to be seated by the window, where we enjoyed our meal while looking out at the garden. We both ordered the Herbal Curry with Herbal Herb Soup (1155 yen) and added a coffee for 385 yen. The Herbal Herb Soup had a strong ginger flavor and was a delicious soup that warmed the body. The Herbal Curry, made with beef tendon, had a herbal aroma and was very tasty. After the meal, we relaxed with our coffee. Daigo-ji Temple has a large compound with many attractions like the main hall, Sanbo-in, and Reihokan, so it requires a considerable amount of time to explore. This restaurant is recommended for lunch or a break during your visit.

Daigo-ji Temple, a World Heritage Site and one of the Saigoku Pilgrimage temples, is famous for Toyotomi Hideyoshi's "Daigo no Hanami" cherry blossom viewing event. The temple grounds are beautiful, especially at night when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Recently, a French cafe opened on the temple grounds, managed by Kuroiwa Isao. The cafe is open from 10 am to 5 pm, with lunch served until 2 pm. I tried the medicinal herb curry for 918 yen, which included a popular medicinal herb soup. The cafe also offers a dessert set for an additional 800 yen. The view from the large windows is stunning, especially during cherry blossom season. The cafe is a nice option for dining at Daigo-ji Temple, which doesn't have many nearby restaurants. It's worth a visit for a relaxing meal with a beautiful view.
