~Previous Post~[December 1, 2021 13:19]Let's go to Kyoto. (It was a business trip to Kyoto after a long time... ^^;) I took the morning off, left my luggage at the hotel in the afternoon, and headed out for a little sightseeing. Along the way, I came across a nice-looking udon/soba restaurant that I had researched. I was drawn to its appealing exterior. Despite some hesitation, I decided to go in. (There is a nice restaurant with the same name in Yokohama as well.) Inside, there were six small tables and it was cozy. As soon as the previous customer finished eating, I was seated at a table in the back filled with autographs. I looked at the menu on the wall... noodle dishes, rice bowls, set menus, as well as alcoholic drinks and snacks. The lunch set menu options were as follows: ● Rice bowl + half portion of udon: (rice bowl price + 150 yen) ● Noodle dish + small kitsune don: (noodle price + 200 yen) I chose the ramen set and waited a bit. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was nice~ After about 5 minutes, my food was brought out one by one, and I dug in. ◇ Ramen It looked like your typical ramen. Lots of green onions, which was nice. The soup had a subtle pork flavor. Yes, it was delicious~ It was satisfying. The noodles were straight and went well with the pepper. ◇ Kitsune Don Chopped fried tofu and green onions. The sauce soaked into the rice and was delicious~ I added some shichimi to give it a kick. I alternated between the two dishes and was pleasantly full. Thank you for the meal~ (^^)/ I felt content. After eating, I visited the Honno-ji ruins, Honno-ji Temple, and the grave of Akechi Mitsuhide, enjoying a little sightseeing!~Next Post~

Located a 2.3-minute walk from Karasuma Station, this old-fashioned diner with a Tabelog rating of 3.48 exudes a strong sense of tradition. I visited around 3:00 pm on a weekday to make up for a missed lunch. The place is undeniably retro, both on the outside and inside, with a Showa-era vibe. Despite offering a variety of dishes like yakitori and udon, I ordered the "chuka soba" for 750 yen. The place was sparsely populated, and it took a while for my order to arrive. The dish itself also had a nostalgic feel to it. The toppings included chashu, green onions, and bean sprouts. The soup was a strong, animal-based chicken broth with a prominent ginger flavor. The taste was unexpected, but it had a unique quality that made me keep sipping the soup. The noodles had a chewy texture, providing a nice contrast to the crunchy bean sprouts. While I had ramen this time, I am curious to try other items on the menu in the future. Thank you for the meal.

Kyoto. In the city of Kyoto, along Karasuma and Shijo Street, at the southwest corner of Muromachi Street, I found this restaurant. I was looking for a lunch spot and happened to stumble upon it! The exterior looked like it was frozen in time, with a distinctly Showa-era atmosphere that made me stop in my tracks. As I entered the restaurant, the interior also had a strong Showa vibe. There was an LCD TV on the wall, beer taps, cases of bottled beer, newspapers, and magazines stacked haphazardly, giving off a truly old-school feel. I checked the menu on the wall and noticed a special explanation for their Chinese soba, which seemed to be their signature dish. However, I wasn't in the mood for ramen, so I decided to order the oyakodon instead. As I waited for my oyakodon, I noticed that the group at the next table all ordered the Chinese soba, making me wonder if I should have gone for that instead. The ramen bowls they received looked quite small, almost like they were for kids. I couldn't find a small or half-sized option on the menu, so I stuck with my original choice. When my oyakodon arrived in about 12-13 minutes, I found that the bowl itself wasn't small, but the portion was quite meager - only about half full. It was a oyakodon with scrambled eggs and chicken buried under the eggs, with very little chicken and a sparse amount of green onions. It tasted okay, but it was disappointing overall. Perhaps I got too caught up in the atmosphere of the place and set my expectations too high, but considering the price, portion, and quality, I was left feeling let down.

I visited this place after work, around 9 pm. There were about 4 or 5 tables, with only about 20% occupied. I always thought the atmosphere looked really nice when passing by, so I decided to stop by. The interior was very charming, like an old-fashioned Chinese restaurant in town. I tried their most popular dish, the Chinese soba. It only took about 5 minutes to arrive. The clear soy sauce-based traditional Chinese soba was comforting and delicious. It didn't disappoint visually. I finished it quickly and felt warm inside. The taste was not too unique, but it made me want to come back again. This addictive flavor. I will definitely go back!

Chuka soba with kitsune donburi (small) for 950 yen. I enjoyed the nostalgic taste of the Chuka soba in a retro-looking exterior and interior. The noodles were delicious and the kitsune donburi was a unique and tasty dish. I would definitely come back for more.

Simply delicious! I had been curious about this restaurant along Shijo Street for a while. It seemed like they specialized in Chinese noodles, but they also had udon and curry on the menu, so I thought of it as a general dining place. I decided to order the Chinese noodles, and they were really good! The noodles and soup went well together, and the green onions were unexpectedly a nice touch. The chashu was also delicious, creating a well-balanced dish. I was a bit wary because there were so many menu options, but it turned out to be a great ramen without any need for concern. ^_^

I stopped by after the Kyoto Daisakusen drinking party. The taste is simple, traditional soy sauce flavor that soothes the stomach after drinking. I love this kind of taste. The nostalgic atmosphere of the restaurant adds a comforting touch. I will definitely visit again when I come back to Kyoto.

Today, I was working in Shijo-Karasuma again and feeling like having some noodles because I had too much breakfast. I found this place, Manpuku, with a very retro vibe - it could fit right in with the Showa or Taisho era. Most people were ordering the Chuka Soba (Chinese noodles) and Mini Kitsune Don (rice bowl with fried tofu) set for 950 yen. It took a bit of time for the food to be served as it was quite busy. The Chuka Soba had that nostalgic taste, with a strong ginger flavor in the soup and slightly salty noodles. The Mini Kitsune Don had a hint of sansho pepper and was just the right size. It was also a bit salty. The place was getting more and more customers coming in, showing its legendary status. The people next to me were having a lunch drink, making me a bit envious. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. #Manpuku #NostalgicChukaSoba #CozyDiner #Gourmet #Foodstagram #ConnectWithNoodleLovers #VariousNoodleOptions #LunchLovers #InstagrammableChukaSoba #DeliciousKitsuneDon #PhotoSpotInKyoto #ConnectWithManpukuFans #KyotoEats #RetroInterior #JapaneseFood #PopularChukaSoba

Mamfuku-san, who had been away for a while, still has a distinctive appearance. This time, I tried their curry udon. It's Kyoto-style curry udon, so it comes with a thick sauce. The udon noodles are of medium thickness and cooked to a soft texture. The flavor is more on the sweet side rather than spicy, and the amount of ingredients is a bit on the light side. It would have been better if there were more ingredients, like green onions or fried tofu, instead of just meat. Thank you for the meal.

It was a traditional udon shop with a retro feel. I had the ramen, which had a strong flavor. The noodles were straight and the chashu was moist. It was very delicious.

I think this ramen shop uses no chemical seasonings. Located in the bustling district of Shijo, with ramen priced at 750 yen and rising costs, I believe they must be working extremely hard to survive. It's clear they have loyal customers. I think they make ramen with care!

Located a short walk west of Karasuma intersection and close to my usual lodging near Muromachi, this restaurant is easily noticeable from buses heading towards the direction of Nijo. It's never too crowded, unlike the famous line-up places in the city, so you can enjoy a leisurely meal. I always go for the Chuka Soba (750 yen) here. It has a refreshing soy sauce flavor based on chicken broth, topped with two slices of shoulder loin char siu, boiled bean sprouts, green onions, and two thin menma bamboo shoots. The noodles are slightly thin. The taste is simple, really simple. I wonder if it's just my imagination, but it seems even more delicious than before.

I visited the restaurant after 7:00 pm and didn't have to wait to get in. I tried their Chuka Soba for 750 yen. The exterior of the restaurant is a historic building, and the taste of the ramen also feels nostalgic and traditional. It's not the kind of ramen that focuses on modern deliciousness. The chashu was a bit tough, the noodles were a bit chewy, but isn't that how ramen used to be? The price of 750 yen is a bit high, but considering the location, it's understandable. It was a ramen that reminded me of the past. Thank you for the meal ♫

You can enjoy simple Chinese noodles here. I visited once before around 11 pm and they were sold out, so I came back again. Even though I was really hungry, I still visited. I ordered the Chinese noodles without hesitation. The simple taste made me feel warm inside. I admire how they can run a dining hall in such a prime location at that price. I hope this traditional Kyoto Chinese noodle shop continues for a long time. Thank you for the meal. #Hungry

Well, go ahead and try it♪ #Nostalgic, additive-free ramen Second stop of the day Even though I ate my fill at the first place, my companion suggested getting ramen, so we ended up here. The atmosphere is quite nice. I was thinking of getting udon, but there were signs on the wall recommending the Chinese soba, so I decided to try it. Wow? It was even better than I imagined! The noodles and the soup were delicious! What a hit! When I talked to the owner on the way out, they mentioned that it's all additive-free. Fantastic! I will definitely come back!

There were a lot of tourists, and the atmosphere of the shop was nice with people taking pictures inside. I'm not a fan of Chinese noodles, so I had curry udon, and the broth was very delicious. The beef tendons inside were also very tender and tasty! I would like to go again!

I was looking for a place in Kyoto where I could have a quick lunch, and decided to enter this restaurant after looking around. There were only about four tables inside, so I waited for one to be cleared before entering. It had a nostalgic feel, like old-fashioned ramen!

"Nostalgic Chinese soba" at Manpuku (Shijo/Karasuma), established around 1944. Large serving of char siu + kitsune don (small) [lunch set]. Both the exterior and interior have a significant Showa retro vibe. The current owner is possibly the fourth generation. It is unclear if Manpuku has been serving ramen since its establishment, but in Kyoto, it can be compared to Shinpukusai-kan (1938), Daiichi Asahi (1947, originally Asahi Shokudo), and Mastani (1948) in terms of history. There is also the super-old establishment, Shinodaya (1904). Not related to Ramen Manpuku in Fushimi (1980). Full house at 12:08 (a few spots left).

I am at a popular diner located in front of Karasuma Station. The interior and exterior have a nostalgic feel, like stepping back into the Showa era. I ordered the Chinese noodles with bean sprouts and roasted pork, and everything tasted retro. I got carried away and also ordered the Char Siu Ramen, but now I am stuffed! The portion size was crazy!

I visited the shop around 1:00 pm and was drawn in by its nostalgic exterior. Inside, there were foreign tourists, Japanese tourists, and local regulars, creating a lively atmosphere. I sat at a table and ordered the "Chuka Soba" (750 yen). The menu featured other items like udon and rice bowls, giving off a traditional diner vibe. The bowl of Chuka Soba came with chashu pork, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and chopped green onions. The soup was light and had a subtle soy sauce tang with a gentle flavor. The soup seemed to be a light tonkotsu broth mixed with dashi. The noodles were medium thickness with a chewy texture that complemented the soup well. The crunchy bean sprouts and green onions added a nice contrast. The chashu pork was made from pork leg and had a flavorful seasoning that enhanced the overall dish. It was a nostalgic Chuka Soba that differed from what you would find at a specialty ramen shop, reminiscent of the kind you would enjoy at a traditional diner.

This is an old noodle shop near Karasuma Station, and I think the buildings on both sides are also old, but this one in particular stands out for its age. The exterior of the shop has a Showa era style with sample displays, and inside, there are small dining tables in a narrow space with many colorful papers on the walls. A commercial TV is playing, creating a nostalgic atmosphere of a popular diner. The mother in charge of the hall seemed to be working hard wiping down the tables and chairs meticulously as part of the COVID-19 measures. The menu includes kitsune udon, beef tendon stew udon, ramen, curry udon, tempura udon, kitsune don, oyakodon, tendon don, and various other items. I ordered the ramen. It arrived in about 7 minutes with a seasoning shaker. The Showa retro-style ramen in the diner was very nice. The soup seemed to be made with chicken, pork, and dashi, and despite having low expectations for diner ramen, it was surprisingly delicious! The soy sauce flavor blended well with the soup. The noodles were medium-thin straight noodles with a good firmness, more like those from a specialty shop. The toppings included tender chashu, menma, plenty of bean sprouts, and green onions, with the chashu being particularly tasty. I've had diner ramen like this before, but this one might be the best I've had. It was much more delicious than I expected. Thank you for the meal.
