いけずな京男
Isshin Western Food, which looks like a half of okonomiyaki, is similar but different from okonomiyaki. It doesn't contain soba or cabbage, and ingredients like konnyaku and bamboo shoots, which are different from okonomiyaki, are used. It has a crispy texture, but the broth seeps out moistly, which is unique. So, what is it exactly? Back in the Showa era, there were simple okonomiyaki-like snacks everywhere, just like there were candy stores all over the place. It was something easy to buy and eat while walking, to satisfy hunger. It was something even children could buy. Isshin Western Food is a luxurious version of that nostalgia. And as for the taste... it's the same as okonomiyaki. When eating in the store, you can choose from several sweet and savory sauces, but for takeout, there is only one option. I have received it as a souvenir many times since long ago, but I have never eaten it in the store. If you bring it home and heat it up, you can eat it hot, so you don't have to worry about it. Although there is only this one option for takeout, seasonal Japanese sweets are also lined up next to it. If you order one of those as well, it will be brought to you by a wagashi shop located on the opposite side of the street, at the corner of Shijo. Oh, I see, that makes sense, I understand. When eating in the store, you can enjoy the retro atmosphere reminiscent of a movie set, along with mannequins standing here and there, which adds an interesting touch. However, if you choose takeout, as shown in the attached photo, the packaging with a flashy Kansai design from the chopsticks to the shopping bag is thoroughly enjoyable, and that is also one of the reasons. Despite the flashy store appearance and packaging, the atmosphere is very polite and reminiscent of old Kyoto, which is quite appealing. The other day, I noticed a slight change from before, so I asked about it. It seems that they no longer sell matches with naughty designs for souvenirs. Similarly, the adult-themed Japanese painting cards that used to be freely available have now been changed to more subdued designs. It seems that it has become more difficult to enjoy such playful items in this day and age. Finally, I recently learned that a certain actress from Gion is related to this place. I will visit again. Additional note: For those who still want interesting matches, you can get ones that can be used for fortune-telling at Wakaoji Shrine, near Nanzenji Temple at the end of Philosopher's Path.
