I went to have lunch at the long-established bistro "Bonheur" in Uji. The restaurant was spacious and almost full, so I was seated at the counter. I ordered today's A lunch set with dessert and coffee. First, warm French bread and butter were served, heated in a small oven on the kitchen counter. The bread was surprisingly delicious. Then, the main dish arrived on a single plate. It included white fish piccata with tartar sauce, hamburger steak, cream croquette, potato quiche, spaghetti with vegetables, and a cup salad. The aroma of demi-glace sauce was delightful. Although the portions were small, there was a variety of flavors to enjoy. The salad had a typical peppery dressing. The piccata with homemade tartar sauce had a distinct eggy flavor and tasted like flounder. The hamburger steak was topped with demi-glace sauce and had a tender texture. The cream croquette was also covered in demi-glace sauce, giving it a unique flavor. The potato quiche was layered like a mille-feuille and had a familiar taste. The pasta, cooked in a tomato sauce with vegetables, was slightly rich. The bread came with butter in a butter dish, but refills were not offered. For dessert, there were rare cheesecake balls, apple pie, caramel cake, sorbet, and stick-shaped cookies. The desserts, with a wide variety, were delicious, made by a former pastry chef. Finally, I enjoyed a leisurely cup of coffee. Each plate and cup had the restaurant's logo, adding to the traditional atmosphere. Although the one-plate lunch set was not fancy or surprising, the flavors were well-crafted and satisfying. It was a delicious meal. Thank you.
