When I looked at it again, I realized that it was quite a large portion. It had small pieces of chicken, various vegetables like bamboo shoots, carrots, and onions mixed in sweet and sour sauce. There were also small shumai and a decent amount of rice with pickles. In the end, I was full. It's best to eat this bento as a proper lunch rather than a late-night snack. I think it's okay to eat this once a day. I was ashamed of myself for thinking that this bento, priced so low, would be of poor quality.

When I'm short on time, can't decide on lunch, need something cheap, or for various other reasons, this meal for 270 yen is perfect. Some people worry about the ingredients being from China or the low price, but I don't mind at all. It's surprisingly delicious for 270 yen. The ingredients are probably foreign. The staff are likely foreigners too, but that's no problem for me. Once you try it, you might get hooked. The only downside is the long line at the register sometimes. But I keep coming back. Give it a try out of curiosity, you might just like it. Highly recommended.

They still have a wide variety of bento boxes piled up, and today I had the sweet and sour chicken bento. They also sell vegetables outside, and inside the store, they have several types of fried food. Foreign staff members work efficiently. The prices are unbeatable, starting from 250 yen and even though they have gone up a bit, getting a bento with this much volume for 270 yen including tax in the middle of Kyoto is amazing. It was lunchtime and the place was packed with people. I looked at the displayed bento boxes and decided to go with the sweet and sour pork. Just as I was about to pick up the bento, I heard a voice behind me saying, "I'll go with this again today." I turned around and saw my buddy Boo-chan (laughs). And the bento he was getting... it was huge! It was the "Gutsy Double Hamburger Bento" for 399 yen. It was more than 1.5 times the size of a regular 250 yen bento. I was surprised to see such a big bento. I decided to get one as well and headed home. Let's talk about the food: - Sweet and sour pork bento (250 yen): It had fried chicken, carrots, onions, bell peppers, bamboo shoots, fried shumai, and pickled radish. The portion was generous and the flavors were bold. - Croquettes (25 yen each x2): They were simple and plain, nothing special. - Yakisoba (150 yen): It was your typical yakisoba, but I always enjoy these kind of dishes. - Gutsy Double Hamburger Bento (399 yen): It had hamburger, cheeseburger, sunny lettuce, seasoned rice, and pink pickles. The cheeseburger had a tomato sauce which was a nice surprise. Overall, it felt like getting two regular hamburger bentos in one. After eating the 399 yen bento, I always think I should get the regular 299 yen bento because the portion is too big. But I'm silly, so I always end up getting the 399 yen bento. Today's bento had hamburg steak with two pieces, topped with a ketchup-based sauce and cheap-looking cheese on one of them. It didn't feel very satisfying. But the rice was soaked in the sauce and turned out surprisingly good. The hamburg steak portion was not that big. It's actually the rice that's tricky - there seems to be more rice than it looks. It would be better if they sprinkled furikake on it, made the hamburg steak smaller and added a side of fries, or included egg or potato salad, otherwise I end up with leftover rice. Maybe I'm just not eating it right...

Bentos like fried chicken, mapo eggplant, shrimp chili, and salted mackerel were selling out and being restocked. I decided to try the salted mackerel bento. It only cost 270 yen, so cheap! The ingredients were probably all from China, but that's typical for eating out, so I didn't mind. I had it with cold green tea and miso soup with clams at the office. The salted mackerel was quite salty, but it would be fine even if it got cold. It came with kinpira burdock, croquette, and pickled vegetables. There was plenty of rice, and I was satisfied.
