Visited after the thank-you visit with a newborn baby. Reserved a hot pot course. The private room, which felt like a room that extended a bit to the eaves, was cozy. The meal was quite filling with tempura also served, although I forgot to take photos. The restaurant is quite spacious inside. I would like to visit again.

Wara-san is a tofu hot pot restaurant that requires reservations. We visited after paying our respects at Wara Tenjin Shrine on Inu no Hi (Day of the Dog). My mother had been here 30 years ago and recommended the delicious tofu hot pot and ginger rice. The restaurant is located in a residential area in a standalone house. When we arrived at 12:30, we were told that they were fully booked due to walk-in customers. The interior felt nostalgic, like visiting a relative's home, with traditional tatami rooms and a garden. It was a bit cold inside, but we warmed up with green tea while waiting for our meal. We started with sesame tofu topped with real Japanese pepper and wasabi. I usually don't like Japanese pepper, but this one was tolerable. Then, a large pot of tofu hot pot arrived, filled with smooth tofu in a special broth that complemented it perfectly. It also contained cabbage, mitsuba (Japanese wild parsley), and yuba (tofu skin). After warming up with the hot pot, we enjoyed a variety of tempura including carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato, seaweed, shiitake mushrooms, and green peppers, served with grated daikon radish and dashi broth. The tempura was delicious, especially the carrots, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin. We then had grated yam and ginger rice, which was so tasty that we finished every last bite, despite feeling full. The rice was cooked with ginger juice, giving it a unique flavor. After the meal, we felt warm and satisfied. We were the only customers during our visit, but a few others were turned away due to not having reservations. The restaurant seemed to be busy with only one group at a time. The restroom was clean and modern, and there were low chairs for elderly customers in the tatami room. The parking lot was a bit hard to find, but it's spot number 66. We would love to visit again next time we pay our respects at the shrine.

When it's cold, I always feel like going to Kyoto to eat yudofu. It seems like a typical thing for people from outside Kyoto. Locals in Kyoto don't really think about going out to eat yudofu or imobou. But it's only natural to crave something warm to eat during the cold season. This time, I was taken to this restaurant by a senior colleague. It was a place I didn't know, a first-time experience for me. It's located in a residential area, and I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't been told. It's kind of fun to discover a yudofu restaurant in such a place. We ordered a set of yudofu. They also had some side dishes available as individual items. Since we had made a reservation, the food came out pretty quickly. As for the main dish, the yudofu was... well, just delicious in a normal way. It didn't have any particular standout feature, nor was it extremely delicious. My senior colleague mentioned that this place is a hidden gem, but personally, I didn't find it particularly appealing. At this price point, I couldn't help but think that I could buy the most expensive tofu from a tofu shop in Hakone and make it myself. However, I didn't dislike the feeling of visiting a regular household. It was relaxing. I don't think I would go out of my way to come back here, but if someone else wants to go, I would be willing to go along.

It was a very cold day with bad weather, so I warmed up my body with yudofu (tofu hot pot). I made a reservation to visit Kinkaku-ji and stopped by this restaurant. The interior was a cozy traditional tatami room which made me feel comfortable. I enjoyed yudofu, vegetable tempura, sesame tofu, grated yam, ginger rice, and pickles. Everything was made by the hostess herself and had a simple and gentle taste. Even though I usually don't like carrots, the tempura was sweet and delicious, and I finished it all. My body and soul were warmed up. I'm glad I came.

When it comes to Kyoto, I wanted to try delicious Yudofu (tofu hot pot) at least once, so my friend made a reservation for us. It's a reservation-only place. The restaurant looks just like a regular house, you might not even notice it if you pass by without knowing. We took off our shoes at the entrance and were guided to a private room. When we visited, there didn't seem to be any other customers, but there were other rooms available. We had the main Yudofu, sesame tofu, tempura, grated yam, ginger rice for the finale. Everything was delicious.

First of all, this place is not really a hidden gem, just a regular house. I was surprised when I was shown to my seat. The old-fashioned and cheap-looking trays and dirty cushions... I had reserved the lunch course, but I seriously doubt if the tofu was homemade. The earthenware pots and dishes also looked cheap, and honestly, I've had better homemade tofu at home. The tempura and ginger rice were okay. The family next to me with noisy kids made the atmosphere even worse. I don't think I want to go back again, it was a disappointment.

I wanted to try delicious tofu in Kyoto, so I made a reservation and went. It was a bit hard to find as it was tucked away in a regular house with a small sign, but I managed to get there. The menu only had a tofu course, but it included sesame tofu, hot tofu, tempura, grated yam, ginger rice, and more. I was really full by the end, especially the sesame tofu was delicious and the tempura was crispy. It cost around 3500 yen per person. It's nice to treat yourself to something luxurious once in a while.

This is a completely reservation-only restaurant. I had been curious about it because I heard they serve delicious tofu dishes, so I made a reservation when my mother came to visit during the autumn foliage season. The restaurant is really just like a regular house, and even when you go inside, it feels like a normal home. At first, I was surprised, but it has a cozy atmosphere. The homemade tofu was rich and delicious. There are many popular tofu specialty shops in Kyoto city, but personally, I think it's nice to reserve a spot at a place like this and enjoy the taste of tofu while relaxing when visiting Kyoto.

The location and atmosphere of this restaurant are known only to those in the know. It is situated in a residential area and looks just like a regular house from the outside. The seating is limited, making it difficult to secure a reservation. The tofu is homemade with such dedication that they even go out to fetch water for it every day. The tofu, sesame tofu, tempura, and ginger rice included in the course are all incredibly delicious. Personally, I'm not a big fan of carrots, but the carrot tempura here is amazing! I never knew carrots could taste this good... It's rare to find a place that is so delicious, has such attention to detail, is reasonably priced, and has such friendly staff.

A few years ago, I stopped by for lunch during a trip. The restaurant is located in a residential area near the Golden Pavilion, and it looks like an ordinary house from the outside. We made a reservation for seven people in advance. Since there were no other customers, we had the whole traditional tatami room to ourselves. We ordered a tofu course for about 3000 yen. The dishes included yuba, tofu hot pot, sesame tofu, and grated yam, all of which were delicious. Personally, I found it interesting that the sauce for the sesame tofu was not miso, but a mixture of soy sauce and white dashi. Since then, I have been enjoying it at home in the same way.
