I have been hosting a banquet at this place for a certain gathering's annual celebration. The food is always fantastic, the drinks flow freely, and we have a great time. The surrounding streets have a quaint charm, and I always think to myself how nice Kyoto is. They only had photos of the lunch menu, so even though we didn't have lunch this time, I'll still share it for reference. Posted on 3.24.

Before going to Uji, let's have lunch in Fushimi! I'm torn... There's a pizza place nearby that I really want to go to, but today I'm in the mood for Japanese food, so let's go to Yoshikura-an. I think I heard about it a few years ago on a TV show, and I finally made it here. The interior of the restaurant is not as high-end as the exterior, it has a casual Japanese dining feel. What, a dim sum set!? Chinese food!? This is a Japanese restaurant... but it actually piqued my interest. "I'll have the dim sum set and tempura set, please." While waiting, I looked up dim sum and found out that it's like a combination of appetizers, small dishes, simmered dishes, and grilled dishes in Japanese cuisine. I didn't know that... I feel so embarrassed for saying "Chinese food!?" at first. Lesson learned. The dim sum looks amazing! You can tell it's delicious just by looking at it. The taste is as expected! Overall, it's gentle but not bland, and delicious. And it's quite a generous portion, with the octopus being so tender. The taste of the pickled vegetables is not too sharp, and the somen noodles are cooked perfectly. The broth serves as a substitute for soup, and the chirimen sansho and rice are also delicious. This is something that amateurs like me couldn't make. Professional Japanese cuisine is truly the best!

Today, after visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, I came to Fushimi Jikkasei Funakurabashi for a boat tour. Fushimi Port used to prosper with Jikkasei boats and Sanjikkasei boats for waterway trade. The town is also known for famous sake breweries such as Tsukasakura and Uji River and Gokawa's water level difference is adjusted by the Misu Lock Gate built in 1929 for safe navigation. I visited the museum to see the exhibits and the actual gate. Near the Jikkasei boat landing, there is a restaurant called Yoshikyoan. The clean and traditional Japanese restaurant offers a great view of the river from the window. I had the Tempura and Sushi Set. The cold soba noodles were delicious with a refreshing texture, the tempura was crispy and tasty, and the steamed Anago sushi in a steamer was also delicious. I felt like I was enjoying a high-class Kaiseki meal.

I heard that the taste of the dashi here is delicious, so I decided to try it out. It is located on the north side of the Uji River in Fushimi, across from Chokeiji Temple. The food here is like a Kyoto-style bento. They have dishes like rolled omelette, simmered octopus, and ayu fish with roe. The dashi for the noodles is pretty average, nothing special. It seems like it's more geared towards tourists.

I was completely captivated by the charm of Fushimi, and my friend, who is a heavy drinker, invited me to an event where we could walk around the town to our heart's content. Excited about exploring Fushimi, I immediately agreed to participate in the Fushimi Meisui Stamp Rally event. We met at Momoyama Go-ryo-mae Station at 10:30 a.m. and started the stamp rally. We visited various places such as the Mikami Shrine, Torisei Main Store, Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Hall, and Choken-ji Temple, and after about an hour, we were already hungry. So, we decided to have lunch at Yoshikuni An, which is near Choken-ji Temple. For lunch, we ordered: - Tempura Assortment Set 2000 yen (me) - Dim Sum Set 1800 yen (my friend) - Gekkeikan Daiginjo Sake (glass) 550 yen x 2 The Gekkeikan Daiginjo Sake we chose was described as having a fruity aroma and a refreshing aftertaste, which was accurate. It paired well with the oily tempura. The Tempura Assortment Set included eel, shrimp, and vegetable tempura, along with side dishes and miso soup. The tempura batter was a bit soft, and the sauce lacked a strong flavor. After lunch, we continued the stamp rally, visiting places like Kizakura Kappa Country, Daikoku-ji Temple, and Kinshi Masamune. By this point, we had already walked about 7 kilometers, and with 3 more locations to go, we decided to end the rally for the day. We took a break at Kinshi Masamune and then returned to Momoyama Go-ryo-mae Station for a tea break. It was a delightful experience, and I look forward to visiting Yoshikuni An again in the future.

I was worried that the restaurant might be too expensive, but I was surprised by how reasonable it was. The Matsukado bento was 2160 yen including tax and it included grilled dishes, simmered dishes, sashimi, and fried dishes. The presentation was great and everything was very delicious. The dessert of lotus mochi was also delicious. I thought the service was a bit lacking because the person before me got a hand towel while I only got a wet tissue from a bag. I'll just consider it part of the relaxed atmosphere of a tourist spot (sorry for being sarcastic). The food was good so I will definitely go back again.

This time it was even better than last time. It was delicious - a 4000 yen course with appetizer, sashimi, steamed dish, grilled dish, soup, fried dish, choice of soba or kachimen with sansho rice for the finish, and dessert. The cost performance is amazing. Each dish is carefully prepared with a seasonal taste. I heard that Tankuma-san was there. The soba is also delicious. The dipping sauce is slightly sweet and has a deep flavor. I wanted to drink up the soba dipping sauce. This time, I added dashimaki to the course. It has become my favorite restaurant. I want to go again.

Next to the Meiji Kura Memorial Hall is Yoshikai-an, where I had lunch. It is located very close to the boarding point for the Jikkoku Boat Tour. Inside the restaurant, you can see people sketching from the window. The atmosphere is nice with plenty of light coming in. I toasted with a plum soda. The Matsuhana-do bento allowed me to enjoy different textures and the taste of Kyoto. It was so delicious that I even had seconds of rice. Finally, I had lotus mochi. It melted in my mouth and was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

During the "Sake Brewery Seminar" 2018 hosted by Gekkeikan and Sake Lab Kyoto, we had the opportunity to experience Kyoto's cuisine and sake. On the second day, we had lunch at "Kisshoan." I couldn't find a website for this Japanese restaurant, but the name "Kisshoan" itself is charming. The area around the restaurant is filled with historical sites such as the Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Hall, the Gokonomiya Shrine, and the Teradaya where Ryoma Sakamoto stayed. The bright interior of the restaurant offered a view of the Horikawa moat, with boats departing and arriving at the Benten Bridge. People were sketching the beautiful scenery. We enjoyed colorful dishes made with seasonal ingredients, such as tempura, sashimi, simmered dishes, and chirimen sansho. The dessert, lotus mochi, was also delicious. We also tried Gekkeikan sake and plum wine, made from the clean and beautiful Fushimizu water in Kyoto. The combination of food and sake was perfect, and we had the chance to taste a variety of delicious Japanese sake over the two days. It was the most sake I have ever enjoyed in my life. I have a party here once a year without fail. We always have the whole place to ourselves. The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's a bit far, so I don't get to go there often outside of these parties. I can't wait for the next one.

When I went to ride the boat at Togetsukyo Bridge, I wanted to eat delicious food at a Kyoto-style restaurant. The ambiance was just what I was looking for, and it was conveniently close to the boarding area, so I decided to go in. The soba noodles were also very delicious. I sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the kitchen while savoring the food. I had been exploring sake breweries, so being able to enjoy delicious cloudy sake from noon made me very happy.

It is much cheaper to eat here than on the bustling street. And the food is quite delicious. The soup dishes are clear but have a strong dashi flavor and taste delicious. The tempura is made with good ingredients, but the batter or oil seemed average. The soba noodles were also delicious. However, the highlight was the eel sushi and rolled sushi, which were very tasty! I also got a dashi roll to go and it was delicious as well. I would love to come back for the rolled sushi again!

At lunch, I had the Kichikouan lunch course. The dishes were served in a bento-style box, each one beautifully presented and a feast for the eyes. The hot dishes were all freshly made and served piping hot. The tempura was crispy and freshly fried, while the simmered dishes had unique seasonings and were each carefully prepared. The side dishes had a delicate and elegant flavor, with the dried baby sardines being particularly delicious - I wanted to buy some to take home. The dessert was a smooth and delicious jelly-like texture.

I finally visited a restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. My first impression upon entering was that it felt more like a local soba restaurant than a traditional Japanese kaiseki restaurant. They also serve lunch, making it accessible to anyone. However, the counter seats seemed a bit lacking, so it may not be ideal for solo diners. From the table seats, you can see the Tenjiku Boat Landing, which is recommended during cherry blossom season. For this visit, I tried the 3000 yen kaiseki course, which had decently seasoned and presented dishes. The soba noodles were particularly recommended and tasted good. The portion size was moderate, but considering the affordable price, it was fair. I ended up drinking too much beer though. Nearby, there are remnants of old buildings from the former red-light district, including the Teradaya Inn, making it a nice stop during a stroll in Kyoto or Fushimi.

After leaving Byodoin Temple, I headed north along the Uji River towards Fushimi. I enjoyed Su Pom Pom's Oryosan at Teradaya (lol) and headed to lunch. Leaving the restaurant choice to the driver, we arrived at a place next to the Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Hall. The facade didn't have much charm, but it was neat and tidy. The interior of the restaurant was flooded with natural light from the canal side, and the white wooden grain was dazzling to the eyes. While glancing at my wife, who doesn't drink, and the driver, I sipped on Gekkeikan's cloudy sake, which had a refreshing acidity and a hint of sweetness characteristic of Gekkeikan. I ordered the assorted tempura and sushi set recommended by the driver. The first to arrive was a sesame-dressed small dish and tempura, which made a crispy sound. Oh, the sake evaporated, it's strange, no, this is Fushimi! Let's have another glass. I enjoyed the thickly cooked shiitake mushrooms and thick rolled sushi that I could drink again. The conger eel was also cooked well and melted in my mouth. Oh, the sake evaporated again (lol). I couldn't order an additional glass, so I finished off the remaining soba noodles. The broth was sweet, but for a lunch in an unfamiliar place, I won't complain, and the soba noodles were quite normal. Thank you for the meal. Day drinking is delicious all over the world! Fushimi, the land of sake, is truly wonderful! I want to keep drinking like this! Oops!

Around September, I was wandering around the area near Keihan Nakashojima Station when I came across a building under construction. At first, I thought it might be a high-end sweets shop, but I heard from an acquaintance that it was going to be a traditional Japanese restaurant. It's a rare genre in this area, so I was curious and decided to visit for a quick drink. There were orchids lined up in front of the store, and a menu board was displayed. After taking a look at the menu, I pushed open the curtain and entered. Inside, there was a counter seat on the right side and table seats elsewhere, with a second-floor seating area as well. I sat down and ordered a beer with a side dish of simmered ayu fish with mountain pepper. Although I love this dish, the seasoning was a bit strong and the eggs were scattered all over, not looking very appetizing. I wanted to order a single-variety sashimi platter, but they only had a four-variety platter with red snapper, flathead fish, island horse mackerel, and squid. The cuts of fish were not very distinctive, and the presentation felt lacking. If they are going to call themselves a traditional Japanese restaurant, I would prefer a more creative and free-spirited approach. By the way, I remembered that this place used to be owned by the Tsukasa-Kadokawa group, and all the alcoholic beverages seemed to be from Tsukasa-Kadokawa as well. Perhaps this restaurant is part of the Tsukasa-Kadokawa group... (Scores for "Overall" and "Food" are tentative until I visit a few more times)

During the day, it gets crowded. At night, it's a bit lonely to drink alone at a 4-person table. It's better to enjoy with 3-4 people. The food is excellent.
