I had dinner at the restaurant in Arashiyama called RanZan and enjoyed a Kyoto-style kaiseki meal. The seasonal ingredients were incorporated beautifully into the meal. I later remembered that I had visited this restaurant once 10 years ago, and felt a strange sense of connection in choosing it again this time.

On the second night of my trip to Kyoto, I stayed at the lovely Ryokan Ranzan in Arashiyama, right near Togetsukyo Bridge. The location and the view from the rooms are fantastic! For dinner, I enjoyed a course of Kyoto cuisine and teppanyaki beef at the elegant restaurant called Kyoga. The dishes were very refined and seemed to cater more towards older guests. The teppanyaki beef was incredibly tender and delicious.

A restaurant with private rooms overlooking a beautiful garden, perfect for relaxing after exploring Arashiyama. We decided on traditional Kyoto dishes as tofu is not popular with foreigners. The seasonal ayu fish was expertly cooked and everyone was impressed. The price, including dessert, was unbelievably reasonable. The service was excellent and highly recommended. It was a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Arashiyama, allowing us to enjoy a lovely lunch.

Ranzan's dining at Seiyo no Yado. Basically included in the price of one night stay with two meals. It's a pure Japanese cuisine kaiseki course. The menu with the chef's name includes seasonal flowers, creating a great atmosphere. The dishes are professionally prepared and the quality is worth the price in Arashiyama. However, some dishes may feel too cold or show signs of being prepared in advance, so comparing it to top-notch restaurants might be unfair. Overall, it's a good choice for both the food and the location and accommodation.

Keiga is written as 京雅. When staying at RanZan in Arashiyama, dinner and breakfast were included. The atmosphere was very calm, and enjoying the beautiful garden while eating was a luxurious experience. The kaiseki cuisine by Chef Izumi made us feel the essence of Kyoto in each dish. The appetizer, sashimi, grilled dish, simmered dish, rice, miso soup, and dessert were all delicious. The breakfast buffet also felt luxurious, with a choice of rice porridge or white rice. The view from the room overlooking the garden made us forget ourselves for a moment. I would like to visit again in a different season.

When I visited the Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama, Kyoto, I came across a Japanese restaurant while walking along the Katsura River. It was located inside an accommodation facility but they also allowed walk-in customers. It's a bit off the main street of Arashiyama, so it's a peaceful place to enjoy a meal. The menu offered around 3000 yen Kyoto-style bento boxes in three varieties. I ordered the yudofu (tofu hot pot) bento, which came with sashimi, grilled fish, simmered dishes, and more. The flavors are generally subtle, allowing the taste of each ingredient to shine through. The dishes are served in carefully chosen colorful and uniquely shaped plates, making the dining experience visually appealing as well as delicious.
