The atmosphere of this ramen shop with about 10 counter seats is reminiscent of the past. I am not familiar with the unique taste of the rare ingredients used in the past, so my review will focus on the ramen itself. The flavor is not typical of Kyoto-style ramen, but rather falls into the category of Chinese-style noodles. However, the soup has a fragrant aroma and the noodles are unique, making it a ramen experience unlike any I have had before. It's a taste that is hard to come by in the area, with a rich salty flavor that makes you want to linger and savor the guilty pleasure of finishing every last drop. I look forward to visiting again! Thank you for the meal!

Char siu ramen for 950 yen. This is the main dish of the day! I found out after leaving the restaurant that it used to be a shop called Chinmoto, which closed down. The person who used to be a customer there recreated the taste and opened this lovely ramen shop. This is what Kyoto ramen is all about - a clear soup with plenty of pork fat, rich and easy to drink, yet so rich and satisfying. I fell in love with it instantly. I originally went there without much research, but I became a fan. They also recommend their curry, so I'll try the curry set next time. The area around Omiya and Nishikujo has many traditional ramen shops and Chinese restaurants, so it's really enjoyable.

Today's lunch was at "Chukasoba Futaba" in Kyoto City, Nakagyo-ku, south of the Mibu River Bukkoji intersection. It's a ramen shop located along the corner of the intersection. The building looks old, but the curtain is new. There is a dedicated parking lot on the left side of the entrance. The interior of the shop consists of a counter seat surrounding the kitchen in a horseshoe shape. There are newspaper articles pasted on the walls. This shop has an interesting backstory where it was opened by regular customers who recreated the taste of the closed long-established Chinmoto ramen shop. They offer only one type of ramen, with options and sets available. They also serve curry. I ordered the standard "Ramen - Regular" for 750 yen. You can help yourself to cold water in a red cup and various condiments are available. The mirror on the wall seems to be from the previous shop. They also sell original caps. The ramen served had a retro vibe, with medium-thin straight noodles which are a staple of Kyoto ramen. The clear soup had a rich and oily taste, but it was still easy to drink with a deep historical flavor. The thickly sliced chashu was generously placed on top with a strong savory taste. It's a precious shop where you can enjoy the revived taste.

Regular customers often have a strong attachment to a particular ramen shop, so much so that even if it closes, they may revive the shop. This is a common story in the world of ramen. Ramen as a genre has a strong element of emotional dependency, unlike other food genres, where the focus is on taste. It is a unique world. I wonder how many people living outside Kyoto know about the famous shop called "Chingen." It was a masterpiece with a unique soup that stood out from typical Kyoto ramen, with a distinctive flavor of kansui. The noodles matched perfectly with the soup. Despite the faint memories, tasting the soup brings back memories of Chingen. Talking with the owner about those days while sitting at the counter, which still retains its old charm, brings back those nostalgic feelings.

There was a ramen restaurant called Chinmoto in Minami Ward, Kyoto City. It was quite an old-established ramen shop. Initially, it was run by a couple, but later the husband passed away. The wife continued to manage the business, but unfortunately, she had an accident and the restaurant closed. When I first learned about Chinmoto, I believe the ramen was 450 yen. Despite the affordable price, the soup, which strongly featured chicken broth and ginger, was rich and full of wild flavor. A former regular customer who knew Chinmoto well opened a ramen shop in the same location, aiming to recreate the taste. It was covered in the news and newspapers, I think. However, the shop name had changed. I loved Chinmoto, so I wanted to visit once. There were two male staff members, one of whom might be the owner. I was the only customer at the time. The interior of the shop seemed mostly unchanged. I ordered chashu ramen with gyoza. It was served promptly. The soy sauce soup with a beautiful color had plenty of chashu floating in it. I took a sip. I could taste the ginger, but compared to the powerful earthy flavor from before, it was more refined or subdued. Whether this was a good or bad change, I couldn't immediately decide. It could be said that it has become closer to modern ramen. If you are seeking the taste of the past, you might think it's a bit different. With this soup, I feel like changing the noodles would be more suitable. Without any preconceptions, as a ramen dish that you try for the first time, it is definitely a good taste.

I was drawn to the phrase "Homemade Gyoza at Chukasoba Futatobi" in Omiya and wanted to stop by on my way home. It seems like they opened in November last year. It's a new store, but it has a lot of history as it seems to be the same as the previous ramen shop "Chingen". Since we were all hungry, my friend and I decided to share our order. We asked the owner if it was okay to order something other than a regular size, and he kindly allowed it. Thank you.
- Ramen (Regular size): 700 yen
- Gyoza: 300 yen
- Drinking set: 900 yen
I also wanted to try the curry... later I found out that they use the same soup as the ramen for the curry. The ramen was a chicken broth, ginger-infused pork bone soy sauce ramen. The firm thin noodles went well with it. The homemade gyoza was also delicious! The drinking set included char siu, kimchi, and menma. We were all full, so we couldn't fully enjoy it.

At the Jinyuan Respect store, I had the Imono² Futago (Kyoto, Shijo-Omiya) with a pork bowl and curry rice set. I requested to change the set menu items. The pork bowl had extra grilled pork on top, and the curry used the set menu soup. This dish was not available at Jinyuan before. I requested the ramen to have extra pork fat, extra green onions, and to be served with plenty of black pepper. It was a lunch for working on a holiday.

I heard that someone who used to be a fan during the Genen era finally visited the restaurant after a long time. Although I didn't visit often during the Genen era, I vaguely remember the faint ginger scent. I found the ramen light and enjoyable, but strangely, my mouth felt a bit greasy afterwards. Maybe it's just my imagination. I thought the price of 700 yen was reasonable. The smell of curry was strong in the restaurant, which made me a bit worried, but when the ramen arrived, it didn't bother me.

Fried chicken set, ramen (regular size), fried chicken, rice soup - The roughness of the ginger from the early days is no longer there. The soup now has a stable, solid impression with a hint of ginger aroma. Some may have preferences, but this amount of ginger might be just right. The moist bamboo shoots are chewy, and the noodles, boiled slightly firm, have a powdery texture that complements the soup well. The tender chashu pork is also appealing. It's satisfying to eat such honest, well-prepared food. The fried chicken is muscular, so you'll need strong teeth to enjoy it. Thank you for the meal.

On January 24, 2023, I visited a ramen shop that opened on November 11, 2022. This shop was originally called Chinmoto and had been in business for 37 years until it suddenly closed in September 2018. I heard that the regular customers of Chinmoto worked with a friend who is a chef to revive and recreate the flavors of the original shop. The ramen shop has about 10 counter seats.
Menu:
- Ramen with chicken bone pork broth and soy sauce soup in 3 sizes
- Chashu ramen
Side dishes:
- Gyoza
- Char siu (roasted pork) tempura
- Chicken karaage
- Grilled pork bowl
- Curry rice
- Fried curry
- Kimchi rice
Set menus (ramen with rice and side dish):
- Gyoza set
- Char siu tempura set
- Karaage set
- Curry rice set (with small ramen and curry rice)
Drinks:
- Bottled beer
- Highball
*Water is self-service at the entrance.
Ordering method:
- Sit at the counter and place your order with the staff.
Order:
- Regular ramen for 700 yen
Impression:
Although this ramen shop aims to recreate the flavors of Chinmoto, I had never been to the original shop. The old-fashioned Chinese soba soup with a hint of ginger is delicious, with a mellow and gentle taste.

In 2018, a legendary ramen shop called "Chinmoto," which is said to have been the model for the ramen shop in the movie "Tampopo" directed by Juzo Itami, closed down without much fanfare. However, last year on 11/11, a long-time fan of Chinmoto opened a new shop at the same location, keeping the same exterior design. The ramen offered is a classic Chinese-style ramen with toppings of green onions, chashu pork, and bamboo shoots. The nostalgic flavor of the soup, combined with the wheat-flavored medium-thin noodles, creates a comforting and delicious taste. They also have side dishes like gyoza, chicken karaage, and fried pork belly tempura. While modern ramen shops are great, it's nice to see more of these old-school ramen shops popping up.

In 2018, the curtain fell on the 37-year history of the "Chukasoba" specialty store, Chinmoto. The famous film director Itami Juzo also visited this old Chinmoto ramen shop. Fast forward to November 11, 2022, and a new ramen shop called "Chukasoba Futaba" opened at the former Chinmoto location. The name Futaba means "twin pigeons" and it seems to have been taken over by regular customers who frequented Chinmoto for many years. I tried the Char Siu Ramen (900 yen) and it arrived in about 5 minutes. It's nice when the food comes quickly, right? The soup is a light soy sauce base with a bit of pork fat floating on top. A hint of garlic flavor gently follows. The Char Siu is thinly sliced and arranged on top like flower petals. A simple and classic soy sauce ramen that I finished easily. While I can't quite recall the taste of Chinmoto, this ramen had a nostalgic flavor to it.

Today, I came here. "Chigamoto" had been in business for 37 years... but closed about 4 years ago after the mother passed away due to an accident. Following the mother's wishes, the daughter, under the guidance of former regular customers, opened this new restaurant. The radio plays, creating a refreshing atmosphere. The interior is clean and organized, with the kitchen in the back right corner and a high counter seating around 10 people. The layout remains the same but seems a bit tidier than before. The place is run by three people, two men and one woman. The menu is simple, offering only "ramen" as the main dish with side options like gyoza and karaage, along with drinks. I ordered the "chashu ramen" and it arrived shortly. The soup, with a hint of back fat floating on top, has a clear yet deep flavor base with a gentle, lingering taste. The noodles are soft and thin. The toppings include thin slices of chashu, menma, and green onions. I finished the meal shortly, with the soup being light in quantity and a hint of shichimi at the bottom. I can't remember if this is the same taste as "Chigamoto" ramen, but I believe the mother in heaven wouldn't have wanted an exact replica. The fact that they didn't inherit the store name is also a positive impression. The mother is probably happy as well. Service was good. Thank you for the meal. From my perspective, there is no wheelchair accessibility, a washlet on the left back side, and one parking spot next to the store (see photo for reference).

I wrote a diary titled "That store might be coming back in June 2020. This is the restaurant. A regular customer of <<85987887,珍元>> tried to revive "that taste" and the story is quite interesting. The regular customer had no cooking experience and sought the help of a former classmate who was a chef... It sounds like something out of a manga. The interior of the restaurant has been renovated with new paint on the walls and removal of bookshelves, but the unique polygon-shaped counter remains. The kitchen has been updated with new equipment and a slightly different layout. The price of the ramen, which used to be one of the cheapest in Kyoto at 550 yen, has now increased to 700 yen. Other original menu items include fried chicken and tempura. I ordered the tempura set, which had a visually striking presentation with a bunch of green onions in the center. The noodles were thin and the soup was clear, with a sweetness from the lard adding depth to the flavor. However, the ginger flavor was quite weak, which was a bit disappointing. The pork belly char siu was tender and melted in the mouth. The tempura, made from char siu scraps, was an interesting addition but didn't quite match the usual side dishes for rice or ramen. It seems like the restaurant is experimenting with various changes in a short period of time, as indicated by other reviews. With prior information, it's difficult to decide whether to evaluate it based on its connection to <<85987887,珍元>> or as a standalone restaurant. I struggled with this, so I will refrain from giving a rating. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant with space for two cars.

I was curious about the accuracy of the taste of Chinmoto-san, so I went to "Chukasoba Futaba" this time. I ordered the Chashu-men with firm noodles and extra green onions. The ramen that came out had a slightly generous amount of green onions, haha. The amount of chashu seemed a bit less compared to recent ramen places, maybe because the bowl is slightly larger. First, I took a sip of the soup, and I could taste more garlic this time, although the ginger flavor that was one of Chinmoto-san's specialties seemed to have diminished compared to last time. In terms of taste, I don't think it has declined from last time, but in terms of Chinmoto-san's replication, it may have drifted a bit. The chashu had a slightly tender texture and was delicious. I can't help but be concerned about the replication accuracy, but I look forward to going again in the future.

The soup has a subtle garlic flavor and is slightly spicy, which gives it a unique and pleasant taste. The noodles are firm and slightly on the smaller side. The customized set with garlic-flavored miso added richness and was delicious. This miso probably comes with the ramen from the start... It has a unique and delicious taste.

This is a shop that opened on November 11th. The owner seems to be running the shop with a taste similar to the original "Chigen" shop that was there before. I visited on the second day of opening, and it still seemed a bit unsettled. This is my second visit. The Kyoto ramen here has a traditional taste that reminds me of "Chigen" shop. The spicy miso ramen has also improved, resembling the one from Chigen. The gyoza also seems to be made following Chigen's recipe. I look forward to seeing how this shop develops in the future.

"Sen'en" Respect Shop, quite delicious. Chinese soba at Futaba (Kyoto, Shijo-Omiya). Char siu ramen with extra noodles + tempura set. The restaurant is said to be one of the models for the movie "Tampopo" (directed by Juzo Itami in 1985), which has since closed. They accommodated the change to char siu ramen with extra noodles for an additional fee, which was a savings of 250 yen compared to ordering them separately. The ramen comes with char siu tempura and rice, not listed on the menu. I requested extra lard and green onions. They also offer self-serve pepper miso. There were available seats at 12:55, and the restaurant remained almost full until I left."

I visited Futatsubato for the first time. I have only been to "Chigara" once before, so I can't compare it to how it used to be. However, it feels like it lacks a punch. It's more like a place to go when you're not feeling well and think, "I guess I'll have some ramen," rather than when you're craving ramen.

When it comes to ramen reviews, I suggest checking the previous review first. This time, I will review the "char siu tempura" and the differences from the previous visit. The char siu used in ramen is shredded into dumpling-like shapes, dipped in batter, and fried to create the "char siu tempura." It looks similar to tempura mushrooms served at izakayas. In reality, it is harder and less fatty compared to the char siu on top of the ramen. The crispy tempura crumbles in your mouth, while the pieces left on your chopsticks maintain their shape. The slight alcoholic aroma reminiscent of toast dissipates after a few sniffs around the nose. It may be noticeable even to children. The set includes three pieces of tempura. I tried adding one to the ramen, waiting for it to soften slightly before eating. Indeed, the combination is good, and this set is worth it. This is delicious. As for the ramen, the ginger aroma was subdued, and the green onion aroma was stronger. Most importantly, the amount of lard has decreased. It was already modest, but now it's reduced by about half. The richness has also decreased. I thought about changing the rating, but for now, I'll leave it as it is. Thank you for the meal.
