This is my favorite tonkatsu restaurant that I keep coming back to! Every item on the menu is appealing, but today I was really hungry so I went for the "Ton Gorilla Special" which left me 120% satisfied. The set includes: minced pork cutlet with shiso, jumbo shrimp fry, and chicken cutlet. You can choose between sauce or grated ponzu at the beginning. When it comes to tonkatsu restaurants... you get rice, cabbage, and miso soup with free refills, which is a nice service! The food was served quickly, probably because I arrived a bit after lunchtime. The crispy coating and juicy meat were as delicious as always! I thought about getting a rice refill, but I didn't think I could finish it all, so I decided against it. I will definitely come back when I crave tonkatsu again! Thank you for the meal!

I always see several groups of customers lining up on the stairs leading to the restaurant. It's located near Kawaramachi, so I always think I can go anytime, but it's been years since I last visited. On this day, with several groups waiting, I was in the mood for tonkatsu so I decided to go. The menu mainly consists of loin and fillet cutlets, as well as assorted sets, chicken cutlets, and the original blue shiso minced cutlet. They also offer a variety of fried food options. I ordered the Pork Gorispecial. You can choose between white rice and barley rice, and miso soup and cabbage are free refills. Sesame dressing and blue shiso dressing are provided for the cabbage. The Pork Gorispecial includes a set of chicken cutlet, blue shiso minced cutlet, and a large shrimp fry, along with tartar sauce and a small side dish. You can choose between ponzu sauce or regular sauce when ordering, so I chose ponzu sauce to try with the meal. The crispy blue shiso minced cutlet is popular, as it is a soft minced cutlet with chopped blue shiso for a refreshing taste, making it a popular choice among women. Other popular items include lotus root tempura and the Pork Gorikyo (Miyako) set with tender fillet cutlet, which are also favorites among international customers.

Pork cutlet bowl for 870 yen (tax included) with free refills of cabbage and miso soup. It's nice to be able to eat a meal slowly away from the hustle and bustle even in the center of Kawaramachi. The pricing is also very reasonable and helpful. The taste is average, but the customer service is good, and the restaurant is very clean. The toilet is also very clean. The floor may feel sticky from oil, but that's understandable for a tonkatsu restaurant. By the way, the cutlet was a layered type like a mille-feuille with thin meat slices.

After returning to Japan, my first lunch was at a different restaurant, but since I was staying near here, I decided to try it out. The prices were cheap, but the batter was a bit greasy. The rice was also a bit sticky, which I personally don't like. The sesame sauce was delicious, but I felt that it needed more salt and soy sauce. It would have been better if it was a bit crispier. I was also intrigued by the limited 5 servings!

Here it is. There seem to be several branches. This Kyoto tonkatsu restaurant offers delicious food at a great value. I waited in line for a bit. They have a wide variety of menu options. This time, I had the pork fillet cutlet set for about 1300 yen. You can get unlimited refills of cabbage and miso soup. The cabbage is also deliciously shredded. I will definitely visit again.

Visiting the temple during the autumn equinox. I was planning to go to Popeye today, but it was too early and not open yet, so I ended up wanting to try the tonkatsu here at Shiki Kaitaku instead. I decided to go with the 160g pork loin cutlet. It comes with unlimited rice, miso soup, and cabbage. I crushed some sesame seeds and waited for the meat to arrive. I started with the rice and miso soup. The shredded cabbage was sweet and delicious. The rice was a bit too much, so I'll go with half next time. I poured the sauce over the crushed sesame seeds for a sweet taste. I tried a little bit of Japanese mustard. The pickles were tasty, so I bought some to take home. The tonkatsu was crispy and not too heavy, I could eat as much as I wanted. It was delicious.

On weekends, the popular Ton Gorilla restaurant can get crowded during lunchtime, so I visited around 7 pm. Despite the crowd, I was seated at a table promptly. I ordered the special New Year's meal set, which was a bit pricey but I couldn't resist the Scotch Egg. The meal arrived in about 10 minutes, and it included rice, cabbage, and miso soup with free refills. The rice was fluffy and you could choose between white or barley rice. The pork cutlet was a bit small in portion but tasty. The highlight was definitely the Scotch Egg, a hidden gem on the menu, which was incredibly delicious with a minced cutlet style. The shrimp fry was also generously sized. Although the prices have gone up slightly, the quality and taste remain excellent.

It is located on the 2nd floor of a building. I ordered the Kyoto set meal with pork cutlet, lotus root tempura, and shrimp fry. You can choose between white rice and barley rice. Cabbage, rice, and miso soup are free for refills. I waited for about 10 minutes. A plate of fried food with a crispy coating was brought to me. The pork cutlet was tender, and the lotus root tempura still had a crunchy texture. The shrimp fry was also a good size. It seems like the sauces like tonkatsu sauce or tartar sauce are necessary as the flavors were a bit lacking.

I was planning to go to the restaurant next door to have pork cutlet curry, but it was closed. I relied on a sign on the street and entered a restaurant where the tables were arranged interestingly, divided by a counter between the street side and the kitchen side. Although it was a tonkatsu restaurant, they didn't have the pork cutlet curry I wanted, so I ordered a set meal called "Tonkatsu Kyoto Goshu." It came with pork fillet cutlet, large fried shrimp, and lotus root tempura on a large plate. They also asked me to choose between ground sesame or ponzu sauce when I placed my order. I was happy that I could have unlimited cabbage refills. It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

I visited during lunchtime. For cheese lovers, the Cheese Katsu set is a great choice at the lunchtime price of ¥950. You can have unlimited rice and cabbage. The sesame dressing is also appreciated. The miso soup is red miso based. Please note that the ice cream service is currently suspended.

After a long time, I took a stroll in Kyoto at Shijo Kawaramachi. While thinking about what to eat, I suddenly felt like having tonkatsu and rice, so I searched and found this restaurant. I decided to indulge a bit and ordered tonkatsu made from Oita prefecture's Kinunokuni pork. It was delicious. What is this? It's different from the usual tonkatsu. You can really taste the sweetness of the meat. Oh, I found a great restaurant. I wish it was closer to my house.

There are three tonkatsu restaurants in Kyoto. Well, to me, they are more like fried food restaurants. For lunch, I recommend the service lunch shown in the photo, but there are also many other variations to enjoy. It's a wonderland of fried food. This time, I had the pork cutlet and shrimp fry. The fried food here is crispy and light, which is why there are quite a few female customers. It's not the type of fried food that makes you feel heavy. Even for someone like me who loves fried food, I think the quality of the fried food here is high. There are many variations like menchi-katsu, so I find myself coming back here multiple times. There are famous tonkatsu chain restaurants, but I personally think that Tonkatsu Pork Gorilla is tastier. When you're out in Kawaramachi and in need of a hearty lunch, be sure to visit here!

I often hear the name, but I thought the restaurant was far away. But then I found out they offer delivery! I placed my order and it arrived in less than 30 minutes. I could even track the delivery status on my phone. What a convenient world we live in now! The "Kyotamba-produced highland pork cutlet bento" for 2000 yen was amazing. The pork cutlet was thick, yet tender and juicy, with a sweet and savory sauce. The added cabbage was also nice and crunchy. The delivery kept the food crispy, which was a big plus. There are other types of cutlets available too, I can't wait to try more!

I visited around 16:50 on Saturday. Luckily, I was able to order from the lunch menu until 17:00. It seems like the menu is different on Sundays. There were two groups of customers before me. I chose the Lunch Special for 909 yen because I was craving onion croquettes. The onion croquette was delicious as always! However, the cabbage was thinly sliced too much and became too fluffy for my liking. The batter was also fluffy, so it seems like when you come to this restaurant, you have to enjoy the "fluffiness".

First visit. I went because it's a popular restaurant. When it comes to tonkatsu in Kyoto, people often think of Katsukura, but Tonkatsu Gorilla is just as good. Unlimited rice, miso soup, and cabbage, with condiments and pickles on the table - are they exactly the same? Well, they're just similar. For this price and this taste, with unlimited refills, I understand why it's so popular! Thank you for the meal.

A tonkatsu restaurant with crispy cutlets and a variety of lunch options priced in the 800 yen range. The main store is located in Marutamachi Nanahonmatsu, and this is the second branch. The Shinkyogoku store is open all day, making it more convenient. I ordered the lunch special which came with pork cutlet, minced cutlet, and onion croquette for 1,000 yen including tax. You grind the sesame seeds yourself and pour tonkatsu sauce on top before eating. The three types of cutlets served were generous in portion size and crispy. You can have unlimited rice and cabbage, but I was already full with what was served. Overall, everything was crispy. The croquette had a strong sweet potato flavor and was delicious. The restaurant is convenient, reasonably priced, and offers good service. While high-end tonkatsu is nice, I also appreciate this kind of friendly establishment.

I visited for lunch when I came to the Shinkyogoku shopping street in Kyoto. The location is on the second floor of a building inside the Shinkyogoku shopping street. The restaurant has a standard cafeteria atmosphere. I ordered the pork cutlet set (160 grams). The crunchy coating combined with juicy pork meat made the rice go down smoothly. I finished it in no time. Overall, it was good, but the only disappointment was that the oil draining may not have been enough, as the coating on the side facing the grill was a bit soggy. It's not that bad, but it stood out a bit because other parts were good. Recommended for meals around Shinkyogoku.

Before, I saw Tonkatsu Buta Gorilla on a TV show hosted by Tokoro-san and I wanted to try it, so I visited the restaurant. The show was not about introducing restaurants, but it was about a heartwarming surprise for a hardworking father by his daughter every day. Leaving that aside, the restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of a building about a 5-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station. I went around 18:30 and a few more groups came in later. There are various tonkatsu menu options, and I ordered the Ton Gorilla Special for 1,218 yen, which includes a large shrimp fry, minced cutlet, chicken cutlet, rice, miso soup, and cabbage. The tonkatsu breading was incredibly crispy with every bite, and the texture was amazing! I was surprised by how crispy tonkatsu can be. The shrimp fry had a strong shrimp flavor and was delicious. Rice and cabbage are free for refills, making it very cost-effective. I highly recommend it!

On Tuesday at 7:42 PM, I headed to Tonkatsu Buta Gorilla. I don't usually crave fried food, but for some reason, I felt like having it that day. As I climbed the stairs and opened the sliding door, I saw that the restaurant was about 70% full. There were women and Westerners dining there as well. I ordered the Buta Gorilla Kyozan for 1,345 yen (including tax), which included lotus root tempura, pork cutlet, and shrimp fry as the main dishes. You could choose between white rice and barley rice, and I chose barley rice. I opted for grated ponzu sauce (there was also sauce on the table). You could get free refills of cabbage, rice, and miso soup. At 7:55 PM, the Buta Gorilla Kyozan arrived. The shrimp fry looked impressive with the tartar sauce. The miso soup was rich in flavor. The fact that the staff came around to offer cabbage refills before I even had to ask was a big plus. There were two dressings for the cabbage refill, one with green shiso and the other with sesame. I used the green shiso first, then switched to sesame. The fried food was average, but if the service continues to be good, I would consider coming back. The free refills would definitely be appreciated by my hungry eaters at home, so I might bring them along next time. Thank you for the meal.

Family of three visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening around 6:30 PM. The restaurant was almost full, with only one table left for four people. Customers were coming and going, with a new customer entering every 5 minutes at this popular restaurant. We usually go to the main branch, so this was our first time here. Our 10-year-old son had the 120g pork cutlet for 1190 yen. My husband had the 160g pork cutlet for 1460 yen. The 160g cutlet looked juicier and thicker compared to the 120g one. I had the pork fillet cutlet and lotus root sandwich for 1350 yen. It was a generous portion with pork fillet cutlet, shrimp fry, and lotus root sandwich. I really like the shrimp fry here. While the pork cutlets come with a little salt for the 160g, you can ask for salt for other dishes for free. The salt went really well with the lotus root. Grating sesame, preparing the sauce, and waiting for the cutlets was enjoyable. You can choose between grated sesame with ponzu sauce or tonkatsu sauce, but the tonkatsu sauce is already on the table, so getting ponzu sauce might be a nice change. The dressing options are shiso and sesame dressing. Rice is served in a traditional wooden tub and you can have refills for rice, cabbage, and miso soup. In the main branch, even for two people, you get a rice refill, but here it seems like you have to ask the staff for refills at a table for two. It might be a bit awkward for women to ask, but the staff were very attentive and offered refills with a smile. The restroom was nice with a speaker on the ceiling so you wouldn't hear any noise. It was spacious and had a cute Totoro poster. They accept credit cards, which is convenient. At the end of the meal, our son got a candy. Thank you for the meal, we would love to come back again!
