Four years later, I visited the lunch service from 11:30 to 14:00. The saury teriyaki set meal costs 980 yen, which comes with rice, miso soup, and four square plates of fish, totaling 11 dishes on a tray. It's like a jewel box of set meals. The sashimi, including thread-sail filefish and tuna, is compact and the teriyaki is well seasoned, making it a great match with the rice. It's a fun and delicious lunchtime in a corner space of the fish market. By the way, today's special set meal is 1280 yen for shrimp chili, and the special selection set meal is 1580 yen for butter-grilled sea bream. Including side dishes and sashimi, it must be a great deal. Looking forward to the next visit!

Today's lunch was at "Sakanaya", a restaurant run by a fishmonger in Rokujizo, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto Prefecture. Located a bit off the Nara Kaido towards Rokujizo Station, the shop has a modest storefront with a large sign hanging outside. Inside, there are counter seats and two compact table seating areas. The lunch menu is extensive, with the option to order a la carte and even enjoy some daytime drinking. I was intrigued by the chef's choice sashimi set, but after some research, I decided on the "Simmered Mackerel Set" for 980 yen. Customers kept coming in one after another, and the staff recommended the sashimi set to the customer who came in after me. I felt a bit of regret. When the seats were full, new customers were directed to a branch nearby. Along the Nara Kaido, there is a modern dining-style shop called Arena where you can enjoy similar dishes. There was a water server set up, and it seemed like the cold water was self-serve. They had kelp tea available, which you could make by pouring hot water yourself. After a while, a surprisingly luxurious set meal was served, with six small side dishes included. The dried daikon radish had a strong, refreshing taste. The white miso dressing was also fancy. The squid tentacles were full of flavor, and the sweet potato was simmered well. There was also chilled tofu, shrimp and beans, and macaroni salad, an overwhelming variety. The shrimp and beans dish was particularly unique. Despite being few in number, there were three types of sashimi, all fresh. The main dish was the simmered mackerel, cooked lightly to bring out the fatty flavor. It was boneless and easy to eat. As expected from a fishmonger, the lunch provided excellent value for money.

Grilled mackerel set meal for 880 yen. I had bookmarked this place back when it was almost half the price, so I was a bit surprised. But now they accept QR payments, so it's fine. Some recent reviews mentioned that the rice and miso soup were cold, but I didn't experience that. It might be because it was a weekday during Golden Week and the place was not crowded. When the dish arrived, my first thought was "the mackerel is small!" but upon closer inspection, there were a lot of items - miso soup, 6 side dishes, pickles. It seemed healthy with vegetables and fish. The mackerel had a nice plump skin that looked delicious. The taste was good too, with the right amount of fat and saltiness. The miso soup was a bit salty, and it was interesting to see cabbage in it. The pickled turnip had radish sprouts on top. The firm tofu had no water content. The simmered clams were a bit salty but tasted good with sashimi. The simmered beans had small shrimp in it. The crab stick mayo salad was a bit watery. The simmered hijiki seaweed was good. Overall, if you don't think about the price too much, it's satisfying. The staff seemed like fresh new employees, and it was amusing to see an ashtray even though there was a no smoking sign inside.

After asking for recommendations at a certain restaurant mentioned in a news site article, the recommended dish was the sashimi set meal (1580 yen). Water and tea were self-service, with the tea being the type where you put the powder in a cup and pour hot water over it (not sure how much to put). The sashimi set that arrived consisted of three cuts of tuna, yellowtail, and squid, all of which were frozen. At this point, my heart froze as well. I ate in silence and left without saying anything. Isn't this just too terrible?

Today, I came to this restaurant for lunch for the first time. There were two women already seated at a table when I arrived. I ordered the grilled saury with miso paste lunch set from the various lunch menu options. When the food arrived at the table, I picked up my chopsticks and first put wasabi on the sashimi, dipped it in soy sauce, then dove into the rice to soak up the excess soy sauce. I quickly took a bite and dug into the rice. Wait, something's not right. No, it must be a mistake. I took another bite of rice. It was cold rice. Thinking it was a mistake, I asked, "Is the rice supposed to be cold?" The two women who were about to leave also mentioned that the rice was cold. One of them asked if the main grilled fish was also cold, so I checked and found that my fish and miso soup were fine. However, the rest of the side dishes and rice were all cold. The two women who were there before me were angry that even the main dish was cold and left. The miso soup was made with miso paste and seaweed, but the seaweed seemed to be not washed properly, giving off a fishy smell rather than a sea scent, making it inedible. Overall, it was a disappointment with poor cost performance. I decided to visit this restaurant based on other people's comments, but it was a letdown. Maybe it was better in the past!

I am visiting Rokujizo in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. I found a pamphlet called "Rokujizo Notebook" issued by the Uji Chamber of Commerce, as there didn't seem to be many notable shops around. I decided to visit a dining establishment called "Sakanaya" run by a fish store. It's a small space with two tables and a counter. I ordered the "Grilled Yellowtail Set Meal," which came with grilled yellowtail, flounder and sea bream sashimi, cold tofu with sakura shrimp, simmered eggplant, simmered daikon radish, simmered hijiki seaweed, miso soup with wakame seaweed, and rice. The dishes were all delicious, but the sashimi was especially tasty. It's clear that being run by a fish store, the quality of the seafood is top-notch. I would like to try more menu items at this restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I visited for the first time today. The cost performance seems to be quite good. I had the mackerel miso stew set meal, which came with 5 side dishes in addition to the main dish. It costs 780 yen excluding tax. It seems that even the cheaper menu items come with the same side dishes as the main dish. I think I'll try ordering something cheaper next time. Grilled fish might be recommended?

After descending from Inariyama, I was enjoying my favorite sweets when it suddenly became lunchtime. My next plan is to visit the World Heritage Site, Daigo-ji Temple. Although the temple is famous for its cherry blossoms, it's still too early for them to bloom, so I expect to be able to visit without the heavy traffic like at Fushimi Inari Taisha. Since the approach to Inari Shrine was crowded, I decided to take the JR train to Rokujizo, where I found a nice restaurant nearby. The restaurant looked like a fish market with a small seating area and counter at the back. They were offering a grilled horse mackerel set meal for only 500 yen during lunchtime, which seemed very reasonable. I wasn't expecting much due to the low price, but I was impressed when the meal arrived. It included grilled horse mackerel, simmered radish, fried tofu, salad, cold tofu, simmered beans, and some kind of sashimi. Everything was delicately seasoned and satisfying. Oh, they also served miso soup hidden behind the rice.

Fish market's super cheap lunch - Rokujizo Sakana-ya (Fish Market) Hello, this is Yamadera! On this day, I bought a one-day unlimited pass for the Kyoto City Subway and went out to explore Kyoto! As lunchtime approached, I walked about 5 minutes from Rokujizo Station to a fish market to have lunch! The name of the shop is "Sakana-ya" (Fish Market), just as it is (laughs). I have uploaded a video of this day, so please take a look if you are interested! The interior of the shop has counter seats and table seats, and it is small. I went there a little after 1 pm, so it was not crowded! Lunchtime is until 2 pm, and after that, each set meal will be 300 yen more expensive. They also serve alcohol, so you can have a drink during the day~ I ordered the grilled salted saury set meal for 500 yen (excluding tax). After about 10 minutes, it was ready! Wow, there are so many side dishes!! The main dish is grilled salted saury, along with lotus root kinpira, harusame salad, hijiki, cold tofu, shrimp and pea leaf stew, and sashimi! Wow, even sashimi is included! As expected of a fish market, the fish is delicious without needing to explain, right? I thoroughly enjoyed the meal! It was a really wonderful lunch. Of course, I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal. ☆Basic Information☆ Address: 40-12 Rokujizo-cho, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture Closed: Sundays, irregular holidays Business hours: 11:30 am - 9:00 pm (Last order at 8:30 pm) (Lunch 11:30 am - 2:00 pm) Difficulty of entry: ★☆☆☆☆ (Easy)

I went to this restaurant after seeing it on a food blog. It is quietly located near Ito Yokado. The shop is a fish store with a simple interior, and the back is an eat-in area. The menu is extensive, and during lunchtime, you can choose a set meal starting from 500 yen. I chose the Miso-simmered mackerel set meal for 680 yen. After a few minutes of waiting, it was brought to me, and it looked very colorful and abundant. The mackerel was so delicious and fluffy! It also came with dried baby sardines and whitebait, which were incredibly tasty and fresh. There was also sashimi included. It was my first time having such fresh seafood, and I was impressed by how delicious it was. The simmered dish was just for color, nothing special. The highlight of this restaurant is definitely the fresh seafood! The miso soup broth was made with bonito and kelp, and it was incredibly delicious. 500 yen is cheap... It seems that the prices are a bit higher outside of lunchtime, but still very reasonable. I hope more people get to know about this place!

It's a lunch spot that feels like a typical salaryman's set meal restaurant. The focus is on taste and price - cheap and delicious! The interior is very cramped - only two 4-person tables and four counter seats. There aren't many female customers, and the owner, who seems busy, runs the place alone so everything besides cooking is self-service. They also sell fish in a section of the restaurant. The set meals are well-balanced and mainly fish-based, with options like daily specials, simmered fish, and grilled fish. The food was really tasty and reasonably priced. It's not a fancy place, but the food is great. I want to go back and take photos next time. Update: I went again and the seating arrangement changed. It was a bit cold without heating. I ordered the grilled saury set meal and my companion had the grilled mackerel set meal - both only 500 yen! The main fish dishes were accompanied by 6 side dishes, sashimi, miso soup, and pickles. The miso soup was a bit cold, but the side dishes and fish were delicious. The rice was a bit dry though. Despite that, the place was always busy, and the owner working hard alone made me want to support the shop!

There was an advertisement in the pad that caught my attention. The restaurant has only 2 counter seats, 4 counter seats, and one table seat, so it is small. Lunch starts at 500 yen, so it is very cheap. I went after lunchtime (until 2 pm) so I paid the regular price. I ordered the grilled fish set meal. The fish was chef's choice, and it turned out to be swordfish. In addition to the grilled fish set meal, there are also sashimi, firefly squid, fried foods, and many other options. Everything was delicious. The rice was also delicious. I would like to come back to this restaurant again.

The restaurant is run by a fishmonger, a bit hidden away, so it has a kind of insider feel. But it's a shame if people don't know about it, because the fish is really delicious. As someone who mainly eats fish due to family allergies, I can say for sure. When you enter the shop, there are seats next to the fresh fish display. Sitting down and looking at the menu, there are quite a variety of options. Flounder with sauce, salted mackerel, fried horse mackerel... around 880 yen is the usual price. I decided to order the salmon set meal. When it arrived, I was surprised. There were so many dishes. Daikon radish and scallops, a little simmered fish, white fish sashimi, hijiki seaweed... so luxurious♪(´ε` ) Above all, the star of the show, this salmon, was delicious. It was plump, and when you put your chopsticks in, the fish oil came out thick and smooth. It's not something you come across often, this quality. I want to try the other dishes too(((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))
