I went for an early autumn foliage viewing in Kyoto, visiting Togano, Takao, and Ohara. Now, what should I have for lunch tomorrow? I realized I have never tried Yudofu (tofu hot pot) in Kyoto. Is it really better than the ones in Fukagawa or Yunishigawa? So, I searched on my smartphone for the best place, and found the quaint and promising Douzuiro restaurant. I made a reservation immediately. On the day of the visit, I got off at Sanjo Keihan subway station and relied on Google Maps to find the restaurant, but I couldn't locate it. I ended up wandering around Pontocho area. After asking a local lady, I found out that I had confused Sanjo Ohashi and Oike Ohashi bridges, as Google Maps didn't show the bridge names. Frustrated, I dashed towards Oike Street. I arrived at the restaurant 40 minutes late, only to see a sign saying "Today's reservations are full." I entered anyway, and was warmly welcomed to a counter seat by the river. The lunch course "Miyama Course" for 4389 yen (tax included) was already reserved, so I ordered a beer and took in the surroundings. The appetizers arrived - a plate of boiled watercress, maple tofu, ginkgo tofu, and stone wall tofu, all with a typical light Kyoto flavor. Next, a sashimi platter with yuba, squid, and tuna was served, fresh and delicious. The main dish, Yudofu, came in an old wooden hot pot, keeping the tofu warm with a wire in the water. The tofu was homemade with just spinach and yuba as toppings. The taste was light and traditional Kyoto style. The meal continued with steamed soy milk yuba with peanuts, and tofu and fresh yuba miso grilled in a sweet and savory sauce. The staff offered a refill of Yudofu, which I accepted, making me quite full. Lastly, a tea pickled in dried small fish and pickled greens was served, with a stronger flavor compared to the earlier dishes. The meal consisted of 8 courses and cost 3800 yen plus tax and 5% service charge, totaling 4389 yen. It was a very satisfying and affordable lunch experience.

Dinner time at the renowned tofu cuisine specialty store, "Tofu-ryu Koyamachi Main Store" in Kyoto. We enjoyed the "Takasegawa Course 6800 yen" while overlooking the Kamo River, a popular reservation-only restaurant. The course included: - Appetizers: White seasoned fruit tomatoes, potato tofu, chimaki, mini mix of corn and pumpkin - Yuba-making: Sashimi of scooped-up yuba with yuzu and seaweed, konjac - Oboro hot tofu: Cold oboro tofu with spinach and shredded egg, simmered shiitake mushrooms - Namafu: Namafu dango, namafu eggplant, fukusayaki - Steamed dish: Yuba manju with summer vegetable sauce - Fried dish: Fried fig with dashi - Rice: Cold soup-flavored miso tea-soaked rice with hamo soboro on top - Dessert: Sherbet We also enjoyed a bottle of beer for a toast and three bottles of Koto Junmai Ginjo for 1900 yen each. We were looking forward to the traditional floor dining experience, but due to the heat and humidity, we opted to stay in the cool interior of the restaurant. Dining on the floor is available for an additional 1500 yen per person. The elegant dishes, attentive service, and pleasant atmosphere truly reflected the distinguished tradition of this long-standing restaurant. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Family trip to Kyoto. Made a phone reservation in advance. The hotel was within walking distance, so it was a nice little stroll. Wanted to experience the atmosphere of Kyoto, so reserved a riverside seat. Seating fee was separate. Although I didn't specifically request a seat along the Kamo River, it was already taken by a previous reservation. Visited in the middle of summer, so I would love to try the warm tofu dishes in a cooler season. Opted for the Takase River course. Each dish was brought out separately, with some explanations, but at times it was hard to hear clearly. Having a menu could enhance the interest and appreciation for the dishes. Tried fresh fu and yuba dishes for the first time, creating a lovely and memorable experience. One downside was that the staff seemed a bit lackluster, perhaps due to the heat and busyness. Also, the rice in the porridge at the end was quite firm, which was a bit concerning as we have two family members who have had esophageal and gastrointestinal surgeries!

It seems like it was his place of memories, so I suggested going there completely out of spite. However, during last year's cherry blossom season, I tried calling for a reservation several times but couldn't get through, so I gave up. But this year, I was determined to get revenge...! After trying about 10 times with intervals, I finally got through... and when I tried to make a reservation, they said they were fully booked this week and the only available slot was next Saturday at 5 pm. Grateful for just being able to make a reservation, I booked it and that's how I ended up visiting Kyoto this time. ----- Taste Impressions ----- I was seated at a nice counter and chose the Takase River course. The spring vibes were already present in the appetizers. Although they explained each dish to me, I have a bad memory and was even more forgetful due to nervousness. (All the dishes were delicious, of course.) While I was eating, they prepared unlimited hot pot tofu for me. Inside were hot pot tofu, spinach, and fresh wheat gluten, with a ceramic pot attached to the container, and the sauce to pour over the tofu was also heated together, which I found quite practical and interesting. Sashimi konjac and hot pot tofu were served. ...Sashimi konjac is this delicious? The hot pot tofu was also delicious, but I was so surprised that it completely stole the show. The fresh wheat gluten with sweet miso sauce was incredibly delicious. A side of burdock root and pumpkin was served. Both were like palate cleansers and went well with the miso sauce for the fresh wheat gluten. The bamboo shoot tofu with green seaweed sauce was delicious and had a nice texture. The warm green seaweed sauce went well with it. The tempura of hot pot tofu and vegetables were all delicious. I wanted to eat more. The one that looked like bonchiage was my favorite. The tea-cured spring cabbage and cod roe rice porridge had no cod roe on my bowl, so when I explained to the staff, they hurriedly brought me another one with more cod roe, which was clearly more than his, and it was amusing. (Probably) The cherry blossom gelato was my first time trying it, and it was delicious. Cherry blossom flavor always has a unique taste, but the slight bitterness goes well with tea. ------------------- Although my initial motive for visiting was impure, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was really nice, so in the end, I was glad I made the reservation and went. Maybe it was just difficult to get a reservation because of the cherry blossom season, so if you go at a different time, you might be able to get a reservation easily...? I felt a bit empty while making the reservation, so I would be happy if they could make a reservation for me next time (personal message). Thank you as always. It was a delicious meal!

In the summer, Kamo River's riverside is bustling with many people, but this time in January, the purpose is to enjoy a leisurely hot tofu while looking at the quiet Kamo River. Mamezuro, which also has a shop in Gion, has a dignified atmosphere similar to a traditional Japanese restaurant at its store in Kiyamachi. We visited on a Friday night, and while the restaurant was not full, it was a relaxing dining experience where we could feel the time passing by. We ordered the "Miyabi" course, which is like a kaiseki meal with hot tofu, and since the hot tofu is all-you-can-eat, it's easy to overeat. It's not exactly a high-end kaiseki meal, but each dish was satisfying. Even with indulging in drinks, the cost was slightly over 10,000 yen per person. Considering the location, this price can be considered a good deal. Off-season Kamo River is quite enjoyable. Thank you for the meal.

A renowned tofu restaurant located in Kiyamachi, overlooking the Kamogawa River. You can choose to sit on the floor, but since it was a bit cold, we opted for a tatami room this time. The interior of the restaurant exudes a sense of history with its elegant and traditional decor. The strong Japanese ambiance is further enhanced by the courtyard. The tatami room with a sunken kotatsu offers a cozy atmosphere. Today's menu included: - Appetizers: Oboro tofu, Yudofu, Tofu skin and konjac sashimi - Grilled dish: Namafu Dengaku and burdock - Steamed dish: Yurine tofu and walnut tofu - Fried dish: Sweet potato and Yudofu chazuke - Dessert: Black sugar kinako soy milk ice cream Drinks: - Hot sake (Hinode Mori) - Beer - Highball - Craft shochu highball (Kyoto yuzu) The menu is very healthy with a focus on tofu dishes, which may appeal to women. Despite the calm due to COVID, Kyoto was bustling with foreign tourists, giving a sense of revival to the tourism industry. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

My boyfriend made a reservation and we arrived at the restaurant. Since it was an early reservation, we were seated at a table closest to the river, but it was a bit cold. (They brought us a blanket later on, which was very thoughtful.) The Yudofu (tofu hot pot) was delicious and you could get seconds. The customers seemed to be mostly older people and couples in their twenties, creating a very elegant atmosphere. I thought it would be a great place for a date.

During my summer trip to Kyoto, I decided to visit a restaurant to try Kyoto cuisine, particularly tofu. Among the many dining options, I was fortunate to come across the main branch of "Dozuro Mamezuro" in Kiyamachi. Their specialty oboro tofu was unlike any other I've had before - silky but not too soft. I took a bite and it was delicious. The addition of condiments allowed me to enjoy different flavors. I couldn't help but ask for seconds. The meal ended with a comforting ochazuke. The happiness of savoring the broth. The staff bidding farewell with a "ookini" as I left made the whole experience a moment where I could truly feel Kyoto with all my senses. Thank you very much. It was a feast.

I made a reservation for a course at Takasegawa to enjoy Kyoto cuisine. The menu was suitable for pescatarians, including dishes such as "Kumiage Yuba Sashimi," "Famous Chilled Oboro Tofu," and "Seasonal Steamed Dish" that showcased colorful tofu dishes using seasonal ingredients. We were able to enjoy the seasonal tofu dishes. The staff was very kind and the restaurant had a high level of satisfaction. If you want to eat fish or meat, I recommend checking with the staff.

I visited for lunch this time. It was a very lovely and delicious tofu restaurant. The dishes were all beautiful, and I was excited to open the lid of the spring-like soup. A dessert similar to cherry blossom mochi came out, and I definitely want to visit this place again. I was seated at the counter, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. The view of the inner garden was also lovely. I ordered Tamano Hikari sake. I usually like Junmai Daiginjo sake, but the full-bodied and rich flavor of Daiginjo sake here was perfect for the dishes.

While taking a stroll in Kyoto, I happened to come across this restaurant and decided to give it a try without a reservation. It seemed to be fully booked, but I must have given off a strong desire to eat there... haha I ordered the lunch kaiseki course, which includes all-you-can-eat yudofu. However, the portion was quite large so I couldn't eat much. The appetizers, yuba sashimi, and miso-grilled dishes were all delicious. It was a delightful lunch for me who doesn't usually get to choose such meals. Lastly, it came with soy milk and pear sorbet. I forgot to take a picture... haha What I ate: Lunch Kaiseki Tsubaki 4042 yen

For our first meal in Kyoto, we went to a charming tofu kaiseki restaurant on a small street along the Kamo River. Unfortunately, it was raining so we couldn't enjoy the famous riverside dining. We opted for the Wind Chime Course, which included dishes like yuba sashimi, cold oboro tofu that you could have seconds of, my favorite nama-fu dengaku, taro soy milk croquettes, and tea-cured rice porridge with sweet simmered aburaage. The dishes looked refreshing and tasted rich, making our meal a delightful experience.

Thanks to a fortunate encounter, I had a sudden business in Kyoto. Since I hadn't done any research and had limited time, I decided to go to a restaurant recommended by my hotel. The entrance had a charming atmosphere in the photos. I arrived in the early evening and enjoyed the twilight until dusk. Later, I found out that if I had made a reservation through the site I used, I could have earned points - what a missed opportunity! The restaurant was located by the Kamogawa River, offering a riverside dining experience. This time, I had riverside dining in Kibune and now in the city by the Kamogawa River. Finally, I could enjoy some drinks! I ordered a glass of Ichiban Shibori beer and Tanba wine. Then, I had a course menu in the 7000 yen range, and I was delighted to learn that I could have seconds of the Oborodofu (tofu). We decided on the additional servings based on our overall hunger level, and it was a satisfying experience. I forgot to take photos, but besides that, we enjoyed various drinks. By the time we left the restaurant, it was already night, and I went back to the hotel and fell into a deep sleep. The sweetfish I had in Kibune tasted delicious, and it was also tasty here. Considering the variety of dishes, flavors, the luxury of overlooking the Kamogawa River and the city, the pleasant open-air atmosphere, etc., I was amazed by the cost-effectiveness of this place. Traditional long-established restaurants are great, but there are also many places like this one in Kyoto where you can enjoy a high cost performance and a charming atmosphere. Kyoto is truly wonderful! Thank you for the wonderful meal! \(^ω^)/

I decided that the first thing I wanted to eat in Kyoto was "tofu cuisine," especially since it was summer, I had to try dining on a "kawadoko" by the Kamo River! I only made the decision to go to Kyoto a few days ago, but once I decided to go, I did my best to research. I found a 130-year-old machiya renovated into a restaurant called "Mizusuirou" where I could enjoy tofu kaiseki cuisine. Dining on a kawadoko by the Kamo River is a summer tradition in Kyoto, and it was a dream come true for me. The tradition of kawadoko dates back to the time when Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Jurakudai. Kyoto's "cooling floor" can only be enjoyed in a few select restaurants, and I raised a toast with bottled beer! The tofu kaiseki cuisine at "Gin" overlooking the Kamo River cost 7,854 yen (including tax), with an additional seating fee of 1,000 yen per person for the kawadoko. The meal included appetizers like tenshinamazuke, yuba, namafu, and shrimp salad, as well as sashimi with fresh conger eel, which I had requested when making the reservation. The meal continued with dishes like manjumazumasu, the famous "cold oboro tofu" served by the chef, vinegar dishes with seaweed and yuba, steamed crab and sea urchin sauce, and fried dishes like yuba and fried tofu. As I enjoyed the cuisine of Kyoto, the sun set over the Kamo River, creating a beautiful evening atmosphere. The meal ended with lotus root inari tea pickles, red miso soup, and a refreshing dessert of green apple and soy milk sherbet. It was a delicious tofu kaiseki meal that incorporated plenty of Kyoto's local ingredients. By the time we finished eating, it was past 8:00 PM, and we had the perfect timing to experience dining on a kawadoko, a summer tradition in Kyoto. The Kamo River is called "kawayuka" in this area, while in Kifune, it is known as "kawadoko."

I stayed at The Mitsui Hotel Kyoto and had dinner there. I love tofu, so I decided to try Kyoto cuisine. The Yudofu (tofu hot pot) was all-you-can-eat! The original sake was also delicious. The final ankake (thick sauce) was also very tasty!

I entered a quaint old shop along the Kamo River, just down from the intersection of Kiyamachi and Oike, where a familiar waiter welcomed me. I was led upstairs to a slightly elevated seating area with traditional low tables and cushioned seats. The first course was a bit on the salty side but beautifully presented. Next, I enjoyed a hot pot with yudofu (tofu in hot water) containing silky tofu and raw wheat gluten. The sashimi platter included squid, tuna, striped jack, and flounder, as well as shirauo (icefish) with sea urchin on the side. The texture of the shirauo was very tender, but the sea urchin was hard to discern in flavor. The dish was slightly lukewarm. The tempura, resembling fried spring rolls with yuba (tofu skin) wrap, was delicious, especially with lemon salt. The sunomono (vinegared dish) was well-seasoned but served cold. The meal ended with a unique dessert of yudofu ice cream and yudofu tiramisu, which was surprisingly tasty. The ambiance, food quality, and service were well-balanced at this casual eatery, but it seemed like they were short-staffed as the waiter appeared very busy. The delay in serving the dishes, such as the lukewarm soup, was a bit disappointing.

Accompanied by my parents, I visited a riverside restaurant for the first time in a while. It was a joy to enjoy the changing sunset views under clear skies. We opted for the course menu, and you can see the details in the images. Tofu is a specialty here, and the tofu dish was so delicious that we couldn't help but ask for seconds. We savored the meticulously prepared dishes.

Located in Kamishichiken, Kyoto, just a few minutes' walk from Kyoto City Hall Station. I visited this restaurant for lunch before the nationwide travel restrictions were lifted post-COVID-19. The interior of the restaurant is in a Taisho-era building, with counter seats, table seats, and even riverside seating. I ordered the Machiya Zen set meal (2,800 yen), which included appetizers, yuba tofu, steamed dish, fried dish, chilled oboro tofu, ochazuke, pickles, and dessert, all explained by the staff. You can enjoy a variety of tofu dishes in a charming setting at a reasonable price.

I visited a tofu specialty shop during my trip to Kyoto. The yuba with sauce was very delicious. I recommend it to tofu lovers. They had a wide variety of sake, which was also very tasty. I couldn't really tell the difference in tofu types and flavors because I'm not that experienced, haha. Thank you for the meal!

I visited around lunchtime and was able to enter the restaurant right away. It was my first time eating yudofu, and I was surprised at how different tofu can be! The homemade tofu had a rich sweetness and flavor, making it the most delicious tofu I've ever had. It seems to be specially made to complement the yudofu, which may be why its deliciousness stands out even more. You can have unlimited refills of tofu, but the lunch course includes other dishes that are also delicious and filling, so you can't keep getting refills too many times (laughs). I felt luxurious in the very calm atmosphere. The staff were also very kind and made my time enjoyable. I definitely want to visit again!

I really wanted to eat here. The most reasonable option was the Higashiyama course. I also ordered the Yuba sashimi. The Yudofu (hot tofu) is all-you-can-eat, with a sweet and gentle taste that warms the heart. I had a lot of refills, but I believe Yudofu has zero calories. Thank you for the meal. I forgot to take a picture of the dessert, but it was apple and soy milk sherbet. It was refreshing. Thank you for the meal.
