I read the review by MyReviewer and decided to check it out. I was planning to keep it light since it's my second visit, but the deal was just too good to pass up! First of all, the alcohol. It's Japanese sake, but they have Tamagawa's Ice Breaker for 630 yen per cup. That's a pretty decent price, so I ended up ordering quite a few. And the snacks. They are so cheap and delicious! Not your typical cheap quality, but actually really good. You can't compare it to sushi restaurants or high-end Japanese dining, but for the price, the quality is exceptional. It's even better than what you'd find at chain izakayas! The shock factor is comparable to when I visited Uogashi or Ore's group in Tokyo! But the amazing thing here is that it's much cheaper than Uogashi or Ore's group! (Well, the quality is slightly lower). Compared to other cheap and delicious restaurants that rank high on Tabelog, this place is much cheaper and tastier! Even though I had already eaten yakitori, I couldn't resist ordering more (laughs). I ordered four items including Tan Croquette and three cups of sake, and the total came to a shocking 2000 yen. Wow, if there was a place like this in my hometown, I'd be going there every day, much to my wife's chagrin (laughs). The great thing about this place is that it's a step above the cheap and delicious type of restaurants, and most importantly, they have a great selection of sake. In Tokyo, even if you find a place with delicious snacks, the alcohol tends to be lacking. Uogashi has that covered, which is why it's so popular. They seem to have expanded to Kyoto, but I hope they make their way to Osaka as well. I'm looking forward to it.

The hot days continue every day, but suddenly it's already September. It's a time to start running towards autumn. This shop, which has several outlets in Kyoto, I have visited the one in Kawaramachi before, but this was my first time visiting this shop. The exterior has a Kyoto-like machiya atmosphere, and inside, nostalgic songs from the 80s play, creating a very cozy space. The dishes are overall on the richer side, suitable for alcohol, and they also offer a variety of sake. Compared to other standing bars in Kyoto, this shop felt relatively reasonable. I plan to revisit this shop in the future. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the popular standing bar, Suiba Tako Yakushi Shomachi store, in Shijo-Karasuma area after 9:30 pm and was able to get in without any issues. Lucky me! I ordered a highball with ice and lemon, Akebono limited-brewed junmai sake, Signature Highball, Ankimo with ponzu sauce, fried corn, Yukke with fresh fish, grilled onigiri, and homemade potato salad. The drinks were ice-cold and refreshing. The highball was delicious and priced at ¥390, which was a steal. The fried corn was visually appealing with a nice charred flavor. The Yukke with squid and salmon was tasty, especially with the added wasabi. Although the grilled duck was sold out, overall, the experience was enjoyable. The atmosphere was dimly lit, but I liked the adult-like vibe of the place. The total bill for two people was around ¥4000. The portion sizes were a bit small, but I look forward to visiting again in the future. It is a standing bar that I used after 9 PM. I ordered two beers, two highballs, and a platter with five different dishes: karaage, thick fried tofu, and grilled fish. Even with just these items, the total came to 3,290 yen. I really liked it! All the dishes were delicious and the portion sizes were just right for one person. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I often go to the Kyoto Station store, but I was curious about the one in Shijo so I visited around 6 pm on Sunday. I didn't make a reservation and there was still space on the first floor, but I was seated on the second floor. The atmosphere wasn't great with a cheap interior and layout where you couldn't see outside. We ordered a sashimi platter, potato salad, chicken tenders with ponzu sauce, red wiener sausages, ham cutlet, nama-fu dengaku, draft beer, lemon chu-hi, and ginger ale for three people. It cost 1300 yen per person. The sashimi platter had salmon, squid, and sea bream. The portion size was average for the price. The ham cutlet was soft and delicious! It may be cheap, but I probably won't come back again.

The streets of Kyoto are filled with various names that may be confusing to us, but locals probably understand them well. While wandering through these alleys, we stumbled upon this place. It seems to be a standing bar, but it looked bright, clean, and had a delicious aura from the outside. So, my friend and I decided to go in and try it out. We started with a Hakushu highball. For snacks, we had potato salad, squid ring fry, and simmered mizuna. It was really good! The service was just right, not too intense or too laid back. We only stopped by for a quick drink, but this place would be perfect for a regular night out. Japan, especially Kyoto, has so many great places like this scattered around.

This shop with a nice traditional atmosphere was quite a pleasant visit after a long time. I arrived around 6 p.m. on a holiday and sat at the counter seat facing the wall, which was available. Here is what I ordered this time:
- Draft beer 390 yen
- Twisted chicken with green onions and ponzu sauce 360 yen
- Oak Master Mega Highball 600 yen
- Rolled omelette with broth 480 yen
The twisted chicken had a nice firm texture. I like how the flavor seeps out as you chew. It's a perfect accompaniment to alcohol. The rolled omelette was fluffy and soft. No need to chew. It was full of dashi flavor, very tasty. It was a relaxing visit after a long time, the calming atmosphere is nice. I might drop by again for a drink. Thank you for the meal.

Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always stop by this place called Suiba, including their other locations in the area. This time, since my hotel was near Sanjo, I went to the nearest one. As always, the prices are so cheap! After drinking quite a bit, I had a glass of sweet potato shochu on the rocks, a potato salad, and some tempura with liver and ponzu sauce and pickled ginger to finish. And all of this cost less than 1000 yen. If this was in Asakusa or Tsukishima, I wonder how much they would charge...

I came to Kyoto at night and wanted to have a drink somewhere, so I decided to visit this restaurant that I had been wanting to go to for a while. The street was not very crowded and it was easy to walk around at night. When I arrived around 9pm on a weekday, there were only 2-3 customers already there, so I was relieved that I could easily get a table. The highball drink was refreshing and went down smoothly. The deep-fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with a light and tasty flavor. I had missed lunch so I was finally able to eat something (laughs). The highball drink went well with the three side dishes: mapo tofu, cabbage with a western-style dressing, and meat and tofu stir-fry. They all had a home-cooked taste and were delicious. The staff were all young and friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable. The bright and clean interior made for a pleasant dining experience. Thank you for the meal.

Kyoto's standing bar "Suiba" is very famous. There are multiple locations, but this time I visited the Muromachi location. It's about a 5-minute walk from Shijo-Karasuma Station. Their specialty, deep-fried crab stick, is always a must-order for me. I felt like the size might have gotten a bit smaller, possibly due to the high cost of ingredients. Nevertheless, I think the taste and value are still good. I also ordered dishes like ankimo ponzu, fugu sashimi, and firefly squid and bamboo shoot ajillo. Suiba is known for their delicious seafood, so I focused on ordering seafood dishes. They have a good selection of tasty Japanese sake as well. The sake I had this time was also very good. Even after eating and drinking quite a bit, the bill came out to around 2000 yen per person, so I think the value is really good. It's a standing bar, but it's a great place to enjoy various dishes while sipping on Japanese sake. Many standing bars don't necessarily prioritize taste, but all the small dishes at Suiba are delicious and go well with the drinks. It's a place I want to visit regularly.

This is the very popular "Suiba" located on Shijo Street in Kyoto. The store has a traditional townhouse style and a great atmosphere. Suiba has several branches, including one in Kawaramachi, and it is a favorite restaurant of mine. You can easily go for a drink alone, and the prices, cleanliness, and overall balance are excellent. Today, I made good use of a little time to have a quick drink. I tried the Ankimo with grated ponzu sauce for 310 yen, homemade potato salad for 200 yen, tuna cheek meat steak for 650 yen, deep-fried crab stick for 220 yen, and draft beer for 330 yen. The recommended dish of the day was the tuna cheek meat, and it was incredibly delicious with a great melt-in-your-mouth texture. Standing bars have really improved their quality these days. I also couldn't resist ordering the potato salad, which comes in a small but generously filled dish. And of course, the famous "deep-fried crab stick," a hearty dish with a large crab stick deep-fried whole, all for the amazing price of 220 yen. Suiba offers a great balance of delicious food and satisfaction at a reasonable price, making it one of my favorite places. I would love to visit again during my next Kyoto exploration. Thank you! #Kyoto #QuickDrink #Balance #Suiba #SavannahinLion 🍻

Visited in February 2022 ◎ At the time of posting, the restaurant had a rating of 3.48 on Tabelog (86 reviews). I went to "Suiba Takoyakushi Shomachi Store," a standing bar perfect for a quick drink alone. The dishes are mainly single servings, so even when dining alone, you can enjoy various dishes, which is nice. They have a great deal with the weekday limited "Tipsy Set" for 550 yen (available until 7 pm). I ordered this set which includes a drink (draft beer, chu-hi, highball) and a choice of two side dishes. I had a couple of draft beers and tried dishes like pork belly daikon, curry-flavored Chikuzen-ni, beef tendon terrine, and deep-fried dashi potatoes. The Chikuzen-ni was packed with ingredients and had a delicious curry flavor. The daikon was flavorful and crunchy, perfect with beer. The dashi potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The beef tendon terrine had a good volume and tasted great. Overall, it was a satisfying experience, and I will definitely visit again.

A few minutes' walk from Karasuma Station. I stopped by here today. The interior of the restaurant has only standing counter seats, and the main menu is typical of a standing bar. So, I ordered the tipsy set. The drink was draft beer, and the two side dishes were basil vermicelli and oyster and cabbage with sesame oil. Let's dig in! The basil vermicelli was just as it is. It's served in a small dish, so I finished it in no time. The oyster and cabbage with sesame oil had a slightly strong flavor, with one oyster included. It was a bit small, so I added potato salad at the end. So, thank you for the meal! This tipsy set is available on weekdays until 7 pm, and at 550 yen, it's easy to order. All the menu items are affordable and come in small portions, making it a good place to casually stop by alone for a quick drink before heading home.

I was wandering around and feeling like having a drink, so I decided to check out "Suiba Takuyakushimachi Store". It was my first time at a "Suiba" restaurant and I was impressed by how clean and cost-effective it was. The staff were friendly and their service was great. The drinks and food were delicious, and everything was served quickly. I wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. I would love to go back again.

A convenient standing bar located within a 10-minute walk from Shijo Kawaramachi. They have good infection control measures in place, with alcohol disinfection and temperature checks before entering. The interior is mainly counter seats, but they have spaced them out well so it doesn't feel cramped, and the staff are friendly. I ordered draft beer and a few dishes, although it's a shame that it's non-smoking inside. Overall, it was a satisfying place to take a breather.

I visited the restaurant on a weekday before 7 PM. I quickly ordered the slightly tipsy set, which can be ordered until 7 PM. The slightly tipsy set includes a choice of drink and 2 side dishes for 550 yen, which is a great deal. Today, I chose stir-fried rice noodles and simmered dish. The side dishes had a gentle Kyoto-style seasoning. In addition, I also ordered fried oysters, Kamonasu miso-glazed eggplant, and a platter of 5 types of oden. After enjoying 2 glasses of draft beer, I tried Shiga's local sake, Hagi no Tsuyu. The fried oysters were freshly fried and paired well with tartar sauce. The Kamonasu miso-glazed eggplant was delicious with two types of miso. The oden had a rich flavor. The food and drinks were delicious, and all of this only cost 2500 yen, which was surprisingly cost-effective. I would like to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for the meal.

Visited in September 2021 ◎ Foodlog rating at the time of visit: 3.51 (66 reviews) ■ Tantanmen 780 yen → 500 yen + Medium rice (180 yen) including tax. Special price until the end of the state of emergency! Currently operating as a Tantanmen specialty shop for lunch, Suiba Takoyakushi Muro-machi store. Unlike the last time I had the "soupless Tantanmen," it is now being offered at a special price until the end of the state of emergency! Moreover, you can sit comfortably in the cool interior of the standing bar. For now, I decided to order it as a single item and see if I wanted to add rice later. The Tantanmen that came out looked delicious from the appearance. Wearing a paper apron, I first tried the soup! The smooth soup didn't feel too rich in sesame, but it had a refreshing spiciness that was delicious. The prickly sensation from the sansho oil and Sichuan pepper was just right, and it gradually intensified as I ate. It may be my personal preference, but I think I prefer the "with soup" version over the "soupless" one. In the end, I added a medium rice and mixed it into the soup! It was also delicious, and I finished it in one go. The pickled mustard greens today had a nice balance of acidity, and it was a delicious way to finish the meal. Thank you for the meal.

Visited in August 2021. At the time of posting, the restaurant had a rating of 3.51 on Tabelog based on 66 reviews. I tried the Spicy Dan Dan Noodles for 780 yen with a side of rice (medium) for 180 yen (tax included). Normally, this place is a standing bar, but until the end of August, they are operating as a limited-time Dan Dan Noodle specialty shop. I thought the end of the month was coming up fast, so I visited early, but the staff mentioned that there is a high possibility of an extension. After going through the alcohol and temperature check at the entrance, I saw that chairs were set up inside, making it a comfortable and cool dining experience. The Dan Dan Noodles come with the option of "with soup" or "without soup," and the rice comes in two sizes. They even provide paper aprons. I chose "without soup" and found that the noodle portion wasn't too large. The dish included minced meat, komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach), nuts, green onions, and white sesame seeds, all mixed with chewy medium-thick noodles, which tasted quite delicious. The spiciness was quite strong, with the Sichuan pepper adding a tingling sensation, giving it an authentic flavor. The amount of Sichuan pepper used was close to the limit of what I could enjoy. I was debating whether to add rice with the leftover ingredients, but the portion was just right, so I decided to add a medium portion of rice. It turned out to be the perfect decision, as a large portion of rice would have diluted the flavor significantly. I finished off the meal with some slightly sour pickled mustard greens for a refreshing end to today's lunch. Thank you for the meal.

On this day, I stumbled upon a temporary lunch service at a standing bar that I had been wanting to visit at night. There were no other customers inside, so I sat at the counter by the wall. The menu only had two types of tantan noodles. Since it was slightly hot that day, I chose the "tantan noodles without soup (780 yen)" to avoid raising my body temperature. However, just the visual and aroma made me crave it. It came with pickled vegetables as a palate cleanser. The spicy and numbing sauce mixed with the noodles and ingredients was delicious. I reached about 80% full, but I considered adding rice in the middle of the meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was as I imagined, and the staff's service was pleasant, so I thought I would visit again when alcohol service is allowed in Kyoto. Thank you for the meal.

I came to Kyoto for work and stumbled upon this shop near my hotel. I was originally planning to go to another shop, but the bright atmosphere here caught my eye. They had a set special until 7pm on weekdays, which included a drink and two side dishes for 500 yen. It was a great deal! I ordered it without hesitation. The drink was draft beer. The side dishes were marinated mackerel with spring vegetables and bean thread noodles. They were small portions but delicious. Intrigued by the affordable prices and varied menu, I also ordered white wine and grilled mackerel with miso. The grilled mackerel was authentic and tasty. In total, it came to just over 1200 yen. I think it was a fantastic value. I definitely want to come back again. Thank you for the meal.

Met with friends for a meal, and this was our second stop. I remember being impressed when I visited this place while living in Kyoto before, thinking "I can't believe you can get food of this quality at a standing bar." So, I was quite excited to visit again after a long time. Kyoto is currently under a request for shorter operating hours, with last orders at 8:30 pm. Well, given the circumstances, it's understandable. We had already had a fair amount to drink at our first stop, so I decided to go for some hot sake here. We ordered a sashimi platter, shrimp mayo, and grilled chikuwa. The dishes were served in about 10 minutes, starting with the sashimi, and we dug in. Hmm, something seems different? (laughs) The sashimi didn't have the same fresh, juicy taste as before. The shrimp mayo and chikuwa were okay for the price, but nothing special. Maybe it's because I went to the Shijo Kawaramachi branch last time? It was a bit disappointing this time. I definitely want to experience that initial excitement again, so I will revisit for sure, but I think I'll skip this branch just in case. Oh, the staff were polite, and they have thorough COVID measures in place for alcohol service, so that's definitely a plus point.
