It's been a while since I came here. I started with the main dish of dumplings and a highball. I also added the spicy lotus root spring rolls from today's menu, which caught my eye. I think this might be my first time trying them. I wasn't sure if spicy lotus root is usually fried. I was tempted by the anglerfish cutlet, but I'll save it for next time since it's still on the menu. The dumplings were decent, and the cucumber appetizer was a perfect match. The spicy lotus root spring rolls were a hit because of the cucumber. The filling in the spring rolls was made of lotus root and it was delicious, but it's for those who like spicy lotus root. I might try making it at home since it's doable. Overall, it was a successful drinking session tonight.

I am in Momoyama Fushimi. I decided to take a break and have a drink during the day. I walked through the shopping street, and there are a few places where you can have a drink during the day here. After walking from end to end, I decided on this place. I really wanted to eat gyoza, so that played a part in my decision. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I ordered a drink. I chose a lemon sour, a specialty of this bar. It's described as "crisp and refreshing," so I'm going for a crisp and refreshing feeling. For the gyoza, I ordered their recommended "Ichiban's pan-fried gyoza" and a unique gyoza called "shiso gyoza." The nicely cooked gyoza looked delicious. I asked for garlic in them, so the flavor was perfect. The small-sized "shiso gyoza" had a great shiso flavor and was really tasty. I also ordered the "nabe soup gyoza" as an extra. It's like water dumplings. The broth is amazing. I might order this dish again next time. I also had some bacon as a snack. It was thick and satisfying to eat. The seasoning was a bit strong to go well with the drinks. As I enjoyed the drinks, I ended up ordering more. The atmosphere was cozy and I had a great time.

Appetizer 220 yen Dried baby sardines with grated daikon 308 yen Deep-fried fish cake with seaweed 418 yen Garlic stir-fried razor clams 528 yen Hot sake 418 yen x2 Total: 2,310 yen I love green onions, but I don't think they are necessary in the dried baby sardines with grated daikon. The deep-fried fish cake with seaweed lacked flavor and the aroma of seaweed, so it wasn't very tasty. Is the fish cake usually seasoned before frying, or was the fish cake of low quality? The garlic stir-fried razor clams were delicious, with a nice texture.

The appetizer was 220 yen, the marinated mackerel was 528 yen, the monkfish tempura was 528 yen, and the hot sake was 418 yen each x2. The total was 2,100 yen. They recommended the menu items but they were just average. I don't expect anything special, so if they serve normal dishes, that's fine. P.S. When we asked for the bill, they said, "It's on the house," and served a cup of clam soup. It was a thoughtful service, but I wish the clam flavor was stronger.

In the vicinity of Fushimi in Kyoto, we found a great place for a casual daytime drink. We were able to cheers with a highball for 190 yen (excluding tax)! Just then, a plate of thinly sliced cucumber pickles appeared. It was about 10 slices, and we were a bit surprised (as we were just a party of two) so we asked the staff if it was something we ordered. Turns out, it was a complimentary appetizer for 400 yen (excluding tax). We laughed it off and ordered some gyoza (7 pieces) for 280 yen (excluding tax). The gyoza, which is the specialty of the restaurant, was just average. Moving on, we tried the mapo tofu for 380 yen (excluding tax). It had a strong and straightforward flavor, almost like they used the base for simmered eggs directly on the tofu. The seasoning for the tofu was okay, but the seasoning for the meat was quite bold. My friend Kitasan couldn't stop critiquing the dishes. The conversation dwindled, and we realized this place might be more suitable for couples. Overall, it was an interesting dining experience. Side note 1: The way the menu was presented, the pricing, and the overall composition of the dishes definitely reminded us of a popular chain restaurant. Side note 2: Kitasan, who loves chain restaurants, immediately started searching online. Side note 3: It turns out it was indeed a branch of that chain restaurant. Side note 4: It was like a mini adventure for us.

A popular izakaya called "Gyoza no Sakabaicchan" located in a major shopping street. I visited here because I wanted to eat gyoza. My impression is "it was delicious". We ordered grilled and fried dishes, so it was a bit oily for a middle-aged couple like us. But we just ordered what we wanted to eat without thinking about balance (laughs). We came here thinking of having gyoza for dinner, but the atmosphere was more like an izakaya. Gyoza with a lemon sour in hand... I think it's great (⌒∇⌒). What we had: Garlic gyoza (2 servings) 560 yen, Hinadori (1/4 chicken) 580 yen, Shrimp gyoza (1 serving) 480 yen, Ankou (monkfish) Karaage (1 serving) 480 yen, Otoshi (appetizer) for 2 people 400 yen, Lemon sour 190 yen, Tomato sour 380 yen, Oolong tea 190 yen. Total including tax and discount (5 yen) was 3680 yen. The gyoza was perfectly crispy. I wish it had a bit less oiliness. The taste was to my liking, so I enjoyed it. The shrimp gyoza had a nice texture from the shrimp. The Hinadori had crispy skin and tender meat (^^♪ They are taking thorough measures against the new coronavirus upon entering. The staff were friendly and the interior was clean, creating a nice atmosphere. Thank you for the meal (⌒∇⌒).

We ordered 3 servings of gyoza for two people, along with draft beer and highball. It was cheap and good. When we ordered a highball, we rolled two dice and got a double, so we received a mini bottle as a bonus. I'm not sure if she is the manager, but the service from the woman was very pleasant. She was efficient and had a strong sense of professionalism, which was quite impressive.

The bill started at 220 yen. Red sausage 418 yen. Clam and dashi rolled omelette 528 yen. Hot sake 418 yen x 2. Total 2,000 yen. The clam and dashi rolled omelette was not what I expected at all. When I saw the clay pot, I almost said, "No, I didn't order that." The dashi, omelette, and clams were all delicious. Especially the dashi, I could drink sake just with that. I wish the omelette was a bit softer. I will come back to eat the clam and dashi rolled omelette again.

"Ichiban" is a popular choice for the second bar to visit during drinking parties. I recently found out that their chilled green peppers are a must-try. When I had to work from home during the pandemic, I tried to recreate it at home but I couldn't imitate the meat miso! Even though you can find miso dip for cucumbers at the supermarket, there's no meat miso available. I gave up and visited the bar again today for the second round. It's still delicious! Just dipping the green peppers in meat miso or stuffing them with juicy meat dumplings and dipping them in meat miso is great. These green peppers are really tasty. Also, it's great that you can still smoke inside the bar even after April 2020. (Sorry to non-smokers) Thank you for the meal.

C&D Group's popular izakaya with a focus on the bar. I have reviewed their stores in Koyamachi, Kichijo, and Pontocho. I started with ordering beer and "Itchan's grilled gyoza". Along with the beer, they served pickled cucumbers as a starter. These cucumbers were salty! The gyoza was quickly ready. They are small and have thin skins, which must be why they cook quickly. The small, thin-skinned gyoza were nicely crispy, with a strong garlic flavor and tasty filling. It's definitely a signature dish. Next, I ordered the meat and tofu dish. Despite being priced at 380 yen, it uses sinewy meat. Sinewy meat is fine if it's tasty. However, the balance of flavors was off, with too much pepper overpowering the sweet broth. After having beer, I also had a lemon sour, and when I finished, they served clam soup as a complimentary dish. This kind of service is really nice. Perhaps this unexpected service comes from their experience running a bar. I'd like to try more dishes when I have a bit more room in my budget.

During a year-end party with my part-time job friends from high school, we decided to go to this restaurant for our second stop since we were craving some dumplings. We randomly chose this place, and to our surprise, both the lemon sour and highball were only 198 yen each. The dumplings were delicious, with the juicy meat overflowing. This seemed to have revved up our appetites, as we ended up ordering mapo tofu and motsunabe, even though we were already full from the first place. The mapo tofu had been simmered for a long time, allowing the flavors to seep into both the meat and the cotton tofu. The motsunabe was also delightful, with the spicy broth complementing the sweetness of the cabbage. Thank you for the meal.

Before I knew it, a gyoza specialty shop had opened in a major shopping street! It seemed quite popular with customers... If I go, I'll make sure to go during off-peak hours. They also have a Happy Hour and a weekday Happy Hour, which are really cheap! The gyoza is small and easy to eat in one bite! They disappear quickly, so I had to order more. The gyoza was average... The mapo tofu with half-cooked egg... I didn't like it at all! The deep-fried young chicken... I had to wait quite a while for it, but it wasn't as good as I expected. The cucumber, which was also in the picture, was the most delicious. I think it was called "asazuke" on the menu... After ordering, you could have unlimited refills. Of course, I went for seconds twice... Thank you for the meal!

On the second day of my summer vacation, I decided to have a late lunch in Ote-suji. I remembered seeing a flyer for dumplings in my fridge earlier in the day, so I went to this place for lunch. During happy hour from 3pm to 7pm on weekdays, dumplings, beer, sour drinks, and highballs are only 190 yen each! So, I ordered beer, dumplings, a quarter of fried young chicken (580 yen), and stewed eggplant. The dumplings were not as juicy as I had hoped, but they were still good. The young chicken was a specialty from Shikoku, and even though it was a quarter portion, it was quite filling for two people. However, I felt like it was fried a bit too much. It might be the way it's supposed to be, or maybe it lacked some moisture. I guess I won't know for sure until I try it in its hometown. Still, considering the price until 7pm, it's not bad at all. It's wallet-friendly.

I decided to visit this newly opened restaurant that caught my interest last year. I arrived around 7:30 pm on a holiday. I was seated at the counter near the entrance and looked at the menu, which seemed familiar. Ah, it's quite similar to a restaurant I recently visited in Shin-Kaijo. I wonder if there's a connection. I ordered a bottled beer and was served cucumber as an appetizer, just like the restaurant in Shin-Kaijo. The restaurant's specialty dumplings had a nice crispy texture and were delicious, especially when dipped in the meat miso provided on the table. I ordered a few more dishes, but when I asked for meat tofu, I was served meat juice dumplings instead. They sound similar, right? I decided to just go with it and found the dumplings to be juicy and flavorful. In the end, I still wanted the meat tofu, so I confidently pointed to it on the menu and successfully ordered it. The tofu was soaked in a flavorful sauce, making it a perfect dish to pair with alcohol. The seats near the entrance were a bit cold as the door kept opening and closing, but overall, it was a satisfying dining experience. Happy hour deals were great, and I plan to visit earlier next time. Thank you for the meal.

Started with 200 yen chilled tofu, 280 yen one-chan's pan-fried dumplings, and 190 yen for a quarter of hinadori chicken. Three highballs at 190 yen each during happy hour. Total came to 1,960 yen. The dumplings had a strong skin and not enough filling, but I still liked them. The hinadori chicken was delicious. I wonder if it's worth coming back during happy hour on weekdays?

After enjoying the autumn leaves in Kyoto, I took the Keihan train and made my first visit to Fushimi Momoyama Station. I strolled through the bustling shopping street in front of the station, which was apparently selected as one of the "New 77 Energetic Shopping Streets" in 2009. I decided to dine at "Gyoza Izakaya Ittchan," where they offer a happy hour deal on weekdays - all drinks (beer, highball, lemon sour) and grilled gyoza for only 190 yen each! It was such a great deal! I sat at the counter, surrounded by housewives who seemed to be stopping by after shopping. I ordered a 190 yen lemon sour and enjoyed some cucumber appetizers while waiting for my gyoza to be grilled. The gyoza arrived, and it was delicious! The combination of minced meat miso and chili oil as dipping sauce was my favorite. The crispy texture of the gyoza skin was amazing! For my second drink, I had a 190 yen highball. I also tried their famous quarter portion of deep-fried baby chicken for 580 yen, and it was incredibly juicy and tasty. After finishing my meal, they served me clam soup as a finishing touch. The total bill came to 1660 yen. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied, not too full, and not too drunk. It was a great dining experience.

I visited the newly opened store on the second day of its opening at the Otemote Main Street. The interior of the store was very clean and there were a few small tables in the back with a counter at the entrance. Despite the 99 yen sale for the grand opening, I decided to order my favorite dishes without considering the sale. Although the store's name suggests that it specializes in gyoza, it felt more like an izakaya with slightly higher prices compared to other places in the area. The service was still inexperienced, and all the dishes were served late. Unfortunately, the non-gyoza dishes were lukewarm. I hope they improve in the future!

Rumors were circulating that a new restaurant would be opening in November. During my work lunch break, I decided to visit with two of my bosses. They were offering various items for only 99 yen for a limited time, including beer. I didn't know about this special offer! Besides dumplings, they also had other dishes like sashimi. We ordered one of each type of dumpling, but they weren't as filled as we had imagined. The staff had big hoop earrings. As we placed additional orders, the service started to get slower. Oh well, they seemed busy so it couldn't be helped. I ended up having oolong tea instead of beer. I only took a few sips. My bosses treated me, so I want to say thank you to them!

I went to this newly opened restaurant! The food was decent and it gave me the impression that it's a place to enjoy alcohol! It seems like a good place for when you just want to drink with friends! There weren't many people, so the food was slow and the orders took a while to come. I'll give it another try once it's more settled!
