On July 24, 2021, December 25, 2021, January 2, 2022, and May 2, 2022, I visited the sushi restaurant at night after a five and a half year hiatus. This restaurant, which opened in 1966, has a history of over 56 years in the local area. The original owner, Mr. Sueharu Nakagawa, retired completely at the age of 75 (according to the current owner, the original owner is still doing well, which is reassuring). The restaurant has now passed on to the second generation, Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, the son of the original owner. I have visited four times since he took over. The current owner has a striking resemblance to the original owner, especially when viewed from a distance. The taste of the sushi, the pricing, the atmosphere, everything remains the same as when I frequented the restaurant when I lived in Kyoto. The standard 8-piece sushi set is still priced at 2,000 yen before tax, and the "negima soup" made by the owner's wife has the same flavor. The restaurant has maintained its perfection in terms of taste, pricing, and atmosphere, just as it was when I used to visit frequently. The counter is almost always full whenever I visit, which makes me extremely happy to see that the restaurant is thriving. The current owner humbly says that it's not a big deal, but I disagree. The standard 8-piece set includes fatty tuna, sea urchin, and salmon roe, all for the same pre-tax price. I order the standard set, add a few extra pieces, enjoy the negima soup, have some drinks, and the bill comes out to less than 5,000 yen. Considering the recent rise in seafood prices and sushi trends, the pricing set by the current owner is unbelievable. Located near Kawaramachi Station in central Kyoto, the fact that the current owner has maintained this pricing with such dedication is truly commendable. I first visited the restaurant in 2010, before starting to use Tabelog. I have visited more than 30 times since then. This restaurant is very important to me. I sincerely hope that the local people in Kyoto will continue to cherish this restaurant.
