2014.9 Late at night, I stopped by a restaurant with my mother on our way home. It's a place with a large "食" sign that has remained unchanged for a long time - Torisei Daigo store. If you head towards Daigo Sanboin (east) from there, near the intersection where it meets Shindo (Prefectural Route 36), you'll find this restaurant. The interior is reminiscent of a refined izakaya, with a focus on sake, decorated with calligraphy, pottery, and books about the local area. There are about 6 seats at the counter and two tables in the raised tatami area, providing a spacious and relaxed atmosphere. The place is run by the master and a woman who seems to be his wife.
We ordered a sashimi platter, Camembert tempura, grilled squid tentacles, and garlic shrimp. My mother, who doesn't like beer, had a bottled beer, while I had a toast with Ebisu beer. The appetizers included tofu salad and edamame. The sashimi platter featured seasonal fish like swordfish, octopus, squid, salmon, and lightly boiled sea bream. Swordfish had a unique texture that I had never experienced before.
The Camembert tempura was a favorite, served hot with salt, and the melted cheese inside was irresistible. The grilled squid tentacles were tender and delicious, especially when squeezed with lemon. The garlic shrimp was a first for us, with anchovies and shichimi adding a perfect balance of flavors. The garlic was not overpowering, making it a delightful dish.
We also tried the garlic shrimp for the first time. It was a delightful dish with shrimp, squid, and eringi mushrooms, served with a slice of toast. The dish had just the right balance of flavors, not too spicy or salty. The toast was perfectly toasted and soaked up the remaining oil, making it irresistible.
For dessert, we were served a vanilla ice cream with nuts and dried fruits, giving it a slightly adult flavor. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality and atmosphere make it worth it. Be careful not to overorder, as it can lead to a surprising bill. Overall, it's a place where you can relax and enjoy good food and drinks. We'll definitely visit again in the future.
