I visited around 6 pm. I ordered sake, wakame onigiri, and karaage. The total was 650 yen. The onigiri had a unique shape with a pointed tip and a firm texture. The taste was simple and homely, just like the karaage. Thank you for the meal.

In front of Demachiyanagi Station, there is a rice ball shop. I bought one for breakfast before getting on the train. It's a bit smaller than convenience store rice balls, but it's neatly shaped like a triangle and wrapped in nori, very cute. I tried the salmon wasabi for 150 yen and the spicy pickled mustard greens for 140 yen. I was tempted by the fried chicken for 180 yen, but I chose the assorted tempura for the same price. The tempura included shiso leaf, eggplant, lotus root, fish cake, okra, pickled ginger, and sweet potato, all half-sized but worth it for 180 yen. In total, it cost 470 yen. It was a cost-effective and delicious meal.

I was a complete mess from drinking since morning on this day, a total "good-for-nothing". I was in no condition to go out, so I asked my family if there was any bento available, and since the onigiri was delicious last time, I asked them to buy it for me. Instead of buying a mediocre convenience store bento, I was recommended this place. It was recommended in a way that was almost rude. Highly recommended for people from Kyoto.

Next to the shop, there is space available. It may be difficult to access by car since it is near the station, but everyone can enter from the street in front of the station. You can choose your items from the alcohol section on the left side of the entrance and pay at the register. It seems like you can step away from the line while choosing your items. In addition to onigiri, they also offer bento boxes and side dishes at reasonable prices. The locals seem to understand that this shop is synonymous with freshly made products. It has been working hard for a long time. The products rotate around, and you can feel at ease knowing the taste and the situation of the shop. The biggest difference compared to others is that they are always open, providing a consistent quality. The location is also a strong point. As for the onigiri, the unique triangular shape stands out, with a soft and fluffy texture. The filling is generous, and each bite feels fluffy rather than soft. It is reassuring that they use natural ingredients. The portion size is average, and the taste is as described above. This shop is perfect for enjoying a comforting onigiri outdoors due to its excellent location. As for the combination plan, it would be a great travel companion. Whether visiting Mount Kurama, Mount Hiei, or Kamogawa River Delta, or taking a bus to Shizuhara, Ohara, or the airport, having this onigiri as a companion will surely bring comfort. If you are not in the mood for bread from Karne or Yagetsudo, this onigiri is recommended.

The desired bakery was closed, but I found a retro onigiri shop in front of me. I love the highball, spicy highball, and dried sardines. The dried sardines were the last one. The rice was slightly firm and delicious. It's easy to eat and at the perfect firmness that I like. The dried sardines were a bit sweet and delicious. The spicy highball was exactly as the name suggests, spicy with a crunchy texture that I love. They only accept cash payments.

Wasabi greens ¥150 and bonito ¥130. When you leave Demachiyanagi, turn left and you will see a sign right away, so it's easy to find. There are about 20 types of onigiri, so it's hard to decide what to choose. I chose wasabi greens and bonito. The onigiri has a slightly pointed shape, which is a distinctive feature, and the thin part makes it easy to eat and delicious. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. 5.8

I visited the restaurant on a weekend morning in May 2022 and stopped by as soon as it opened. It was fun to line up and see all the options available.
I purchased the following items:
- Bento box: The bento box included a "wakame" and "mixed rice" onigiri in the center, along with grilled salmon, potato salad, fried chicken, simmered dish, kamaboko, and broccoli. The flavors were gentle yet well-seasoned, and I believe they were made without the use of artificial seasonings. I enjoyed the simple and delicious bento box.
- Tempura rice ball (Tempura Musubi): The shrimp tempura in the center surrounded by mayonnaise had a striking appearance. I was used to tempura with seaweed in the batter, so the combination with mayonnaise was a bit surprising. While the combination of mayonnaise and tempura may be a matter of personal preference, I found the flavors to work well together.
- Beef stamina: This dish also had a striking appearance with plenty of sweetly simmered beef on top. The flavor was gentle yet well-seasoned, not as intense as a stew. Despite the seemingly large amount of beef compared to rice, the gentle seasoning made it easy to finish quickly. The dish was not overly rich, and the rice did not fall apart due to the drained broth. I believe that overall, the dishes are cooked with gentle seasoning without the use of artificial seasonings and are delicious. I would like to visit again if the opportunity arises when I am nearby.

I stopped by while eating my way through Demachiyanagi. The long-shaped onigiri was interesting! There were many different types to choose from. I had a regular onigiri and it was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

I ordered the following menu items: Norazuna rice ball, grilled salmon rice ball, salmon and wasabi rice ball, plum rice ball, seaweed rice ball, fried chicken, and okara salad. The total cost was 1150 yen. This shop is located about a 3-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station. The rice balls are around 170 yen each, side dishes range from 200 yen, and bento boxes are about 500 yen, making it a reasonably priced shop. The shop owner greeted us with a warm smile, creating a pleasant atmosphere upon entering. Since it is a takeout-only shop, we bought our food and sat by the Kamo River to enjoy it. The rice balls were seasoned just right, not too salty, and very delicious. The saltiness, sweetness, delicate ingredients, and umami flavors were all well-balanced, making for a high-quality rice ball. I would definitely like to visit this shop again!

An early morning solo trek from Kurama-kou to Kurama-dera to Kifune Shrine to relieve exercise deficiency! Starting from Osaka, take the Keihan line to Demachiyanagi station. From there, transfer to the Eizan Railway to Kurama-kou (currently bus transportation is available due to disaster). Purchase breakfast at the station here at 7 am, which is a delight. They offer creatively made onigiri with unique Kyoto ingredients. Options include new rice with sprouts, simmered leaves and hot pepper, beef stamina chicken chili sauce, and pickled mustard greens with mentaiko. Also available are side dishes and bento boxes. I bought a bento box for 540 yen (excluding tax). They gladly offered to give me extra rice at no additional cost. It has become a routine for me to mistake the edamame on the shelf as green beans and almost eat them with the skin on. The bento box includes simmered vegetables, grilled salmon, and fried chicken. Despite the traditional menu, the light seasoning brings out the quality of the ingredients and makes the meal enjoyable!

After moving from Yodoyabashi to Shugakuin for a meeting, I stopped by Demachiyanagi for lunch, or more like a snack, and enjoyed the onigiri from Kurama Shigure. I'm not sure why the pickled stem seaweed is called Kurama Shigure, but it was delicious! I devoured it in no time.

I visited this place as I was nearby in January 2020. It is located just a stone's throw away from Eizan Electric Railway Demachiyanagi Station. Upon entering the store, there are racks of packed bento boxes (rice not yet packed) and racks of onigiri. I bought the "Kurama Shigure" and "Ho Togarashi" varieties. I enjoyed them a little later after moving to a different location.
- Kurama Shigure: This is made with stem wakame seaweed. It has a slight sweetness to it. Personally, I prefer it to be a bit softer when pressed, but it has a distinct handmade feel to it. The rice is delicious, and the seasoning is mild, allowing the flavor of the rice to shine through.
- Ho Togarashi: This also has a subtle sweetness to it and is not spicy at all. They sell home-style onigiri, but the rice is delicious. I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area.

I went to Demachiyanagi to see the Kurama Fire Festival in Kyoto. I wanted to buy something to eat here, so I went to this rice ball shop. However, it seemed like they were already closed and cleaning up. But I wanted to buy at least one rice ball... Luckily, they still had some rice balls left. Phew! I got on the Eizan train to Kurama, and when I arrived, there were crowds of people from the station. I followed the flow of people and gradually moved forward. Taking photos along the way. When I reached a place with fewer people, near Kurama Onsen, it was a bit dark, so I decided to eat the rice ball while walking. Mmm, delicious! It's hard to find food to eat in Kurama, so I'm glad I bought it earlier. By the way, there were food stalls at Kurama Onsen too, but most of them were sold out. Thank you for the meal.

◼️ Detailed Food Review [April 2019]
- Salmon Onigiri (140 yen) *Actually totaled 270 yen
- Bonito Onigiri (130 yen)
- Both the salmon and bonito onigiri have a very unattractive appearance, resembling horns of a demon.
- The basic performance as onigiri is standard.
- Salmon filling is visible from the outside and seems generous.
- Saltiness is decent, but slightly firm, possibly due to being left overnight.
- Not a gourmet onigiri meant to be eaten warm, so they could improve in this aspect.
- The bonito onigiri is made with Marumiya's bonito flakes mixed with rice, nothing special.
- Priced in the low 100 yen range, so recommended for those who prioritize price.

Today I will introduce a review of an onigiri shop near Demachiyanagi Station that opens from 7 am (review rating 3.49). When I woke up in the morning, I still had the lingering taste of the delicious kaiseki meal I had at Koku the night before, so I wasn't very hungry. I decided to take a walk along the Kamogawa River to burn some calories. That's when I stumbled upon a yellow tent with the name of an onigiri shop near Demachiyanagi Station. I decided to buy some onigiri for a light breakfast and enjoy the nature by the river. The items I purchased were salmon onigiri for 141 yen, red rice onigiri for 152 yen, pickled mustard greens onigiri for 141 yen, and chicken karaage for 162 yen. I had half of the salmon and pickled mustard greens onigiri. The onigiri was surprisingly delicious and filling for the price, making it a great deal. "Thank you for the meal."

At 7 am, I arrived at Demachiyanagi Station near the Kamigamo Shrine by myself. Before boarding the Eizan Railway, I looked for a place where I could have breakfast. I found a yellow sign rice ball shop a little off the side road from the station. The small shop had a variety of rice balls on the shelf - salmon, wiener, salted kelp, pickled radish, dried young sardines, plum natto, spicy cod roe, plum, bonito, pickled greens, pickled mustard greens, wasabi pickles, salmon and wasabi, shiso seaweed, spicy pickled mustard greens, and combination bento. Since it was near the station, maybe it's popular for commuters to buy breakfast before work? However, with such a wide variety early in the morning, customers kept coming one after another. The cash register was busy with long lines. Afterwards, I enjoyed a luxurious breakfast time at the bench in the Y-Zone, where the Kamogawa and Takano rivers meet, feeling the cool Kyoto air.

One day in September, after work, I found myself at Demachiyanagi Station due to various circumstances. I had dinner at a nearby okonomiyaki restaurant and then wandered around the area near the station. That's when I stumbled upon "Onigiri-ya"! I realized that I may have never been to a specialty onigiri store before. Excited, I went home and did some research on onigiri shops in Kyoto on various food review websites and blogs. I found quite a few places specializing in onigiri. I decided to make this the subject of my first review!
Onigiri-ya is a takeout-only store. The exterior features a cute yellow tent with drawings of onigiri. Inside, there is a wide variety of onigiri lined up, along with side dishes and bento boxes. I was spoiled for choice.
I purchased:
- Salmon onigiri (141 yen)
- Beef stamina onigiri (162 yen)
- Karaage (162 yen)
- Mixed vegetable side dish
I decided to enjoy my meal by the Kamo River. I cracked open a can of beer from the convenience store and savored the delicious food under the clear blue sky. The salmon onigiri had fluffy rice and decent quality salmon. The beef stamina onigiri was lightly seasoned with a sweet and savory flavor, a good combination of rice and beef. The karaage was delicious, especially with the sunny weather enhancing its flavor. The mixed vegetable side dish was simple but tasty.
Overall, the dishes were not mind-blowing but had a homely feel to them. The restaurant is conveniently located near Ginkaku-ji, so it's a great option to consider before or after visiting the temple. Thank you for the meal!

Blog post can be found here...http://harapekooyaji.blog104.fc2.com/blog-entry-1620.html
On November 12, 2017, after indulging in gluttony at Sanai Fanten and Takumi, I visited an onigiri shop located in Tanaka Kamiyanagicho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. I stumbled upon this shop while on the move, and although the shop had an old-fashioned feel and was not particularly clean, it was constantly filled with customers. Being a big fan of onigiri and having not eaten any at the previous shop, I couldn't resist the temptation and decided to dive in. It's a common feeling to want to try onigiri from a specialty shop, right? The shop was not on my radar, but as soon as I entered, I had a strange sense of déjà vu. The onigiri had a distinctive appearance that I had seen before. I had forgotten about this place because the impression of the blue onigiri shop in Kyoto was too strong. The shop had a limited selection of products, possibly due to time constraints, but there seemed to be over 30 different types of onigiri. Perhaps they could make more if requested? I decided to try the "Sakewasabi" and "Yukari" onigiri. The shop, run by elderly women who skillfully made the onigiri, had a surreal atmosphere as they worked silently in the back. I bought the onigiri and took a commemorative photo on a bench outside the shop. The Sakewasabi onigiri had a mild flavor with a generous amount of salmon, while the Yukari onigiri had a classic taste that I enjoyed. Both onigiri were soft and fluffy, making them a delightful treat. The Sakewasabi lacked the intense wasabi kick I was expecting, but it was still flavorful. The Yukari onigiri had a perfect balance of saltiness and aroma. Both onigiri were about the same size as those sold in convenience stores, but the soft texture made them a different experience. The onigiri were so delicious that I couldn't help but thank the shop after finishing them. The fluffy texture and the way they melted in the mouth made them far superior to convenience store onigiri. The only downside was that the salted rice ball was a bit difficult to eat without making a mess. Overall, the onigiri from this shop were simple, delicious, and definitely worth a try.

The hand-made onigiri eaten at the summit of Mt. Hiei was incredibly delicious! I would definitely want to buy it again if I have the chance.
