I used to go to Kyoto a lot in the past, but recently it's always packed with foreigners and traffic jams, so I only go occasionally now. This time, there was a yacht race at Lake Biwa, and I was invited to join, so I took a train to go there. After the race, I mentioned to my friend that I wanted to visit a shrine in Kyoto, and they happily agreed to go. We met at Kyoto Station and took a bus to Okazaki Shrine (lots of rabbits). On the way back, we got hungry and ended up at this place. It's about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station, and the colorful curtain outside made it easy to spot. As soon as we entered, we noticed rugby memorabilia all over the walls. I'm not really into rugby, but my friend seemed excited. We ordered Ruby to start, and my friend got Ginger Ale. We ordered Ebi Tempura, Ebi Tamago, Cheese Spring Rolls, Ramen, and Champon. The Ebi Tempura was small but tasty, especially when dipped in the unique salt and pepper mix. The Ebi Tamago had a nice crunch from the cabbage and burdock, and the egg was fluffy. I skipped the Cheese Spring Rolls, but my friend enjoyed them. The Ramen was delicious, with a mild chicken soy sauce broth, and the Champon was full of vegetables in a soy-based broth. We ended the meal with Highballs and left feeling satisfied. This place is definitely worth a repeat visit. Thank you!

Kyoto, I worked at Toji Temple, and for lunch, I decided to try an unexplored restaurant in Nanajo, which is quite far away. About 10 minutes walk from Kyoto Station, there is Seikaen where I went. The restaurant had a couple managing it, and the interior was filled with rugby-related items. I ordered the ramen, half-fried rice, and half-omelette set for 1100 yen. The ramen had a gentle soy sauce flavor, different from the usual Asahi style, and the fried rice came with a unique style of an omelette with bamboo shoots inside, which was delicious. The fried rice was amazingly tasty, with each grain of rice being chewy. The master even gave me the restaurant's sticker as a gift. The master was a real legend, being an actual student from the legendary "School Wars." The service was very polite. The fried rice here is a must-try. Thank you for the meal.

Located in the southwest direction of Keihan Shichijo Station, I decided to visit this shop that had caught my eye for a while. I arrived around 8 pm on a weekday. I found the shop on the first floor of an apartment building. There were no other shops around, just the shop standing alone with its lights on. Inside, there were about 5-6 students enjoying their food and drinks. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. There was a tempting winter limited oyster champon, but unfortunately, they were no longer serving it as it was already April. I ordered the "Gomoku soba for 800 yen & draft beer for 500 yen" instead. Although the Chinese scorched rice was recommended, I passed on it as I wasn't in the mood for scorched rice. The shop was decorated with rugby uniforms and a large monitor showing a rugby match. I started with a gulp of the draft beer that arrived first. After a short wait, the Gomoku soba arrived. It had a generous amount of vegetables and looked visually appealing. The soup had a strong salt base with a good sesame oil flavor, stimulating my appetite. The noodles were thin curly noodles commonly seen in Chinese restaurants. The toppings included Chinese cabbage, carrots, onions, pork, and wood ear mushrooms. It was piping hot, and I had to be careful not to burn myself until the last bite. Towards the end, when I added chili oil, the taste transformed into a spicy punch, and I almost finished the whole bowl. I overheard the shop owner talking to the students and learned that he was a former member of the Fushimi Technical High School rugby team. He even claimed to have been present during a legendary scene from School Wars. Although the students who hadn't watched School Wars were surprised, as a member of the generation who grew up watching it, I was secretly amazed by this revelation. The simple and pleasant customer service made me want to visit again. Next time, I might try the recommended Chinese scorched rice. Thank you for the meal.

I came for lunch on Sunday, January 26, 2020. I ordered gyoza, ramen, fried rice, char siu, and 3 glasses of shochu highball. Everything was delicious and excellent. I had a meaningful time from lunchtime. I am very satisfied. I am happy with the favorite seasoning. I went to Kyoto Station once, but this is my first time in Shichijo. Next time, I plan to visit the food stalls in Suijinshinmachi. Thank you for the meal. I will go again. I will give thanks to all the ingredients in this world. Calling for delicious food♪ The more you eat, the more power overflows♪

I went to "Seikayuen," a Chinese restaurant in Kyoto that can be considered a holy place for rugby. I had dumplings, grilled pork, champon, and sweet and sour pork. They were all delicious, but the pork was especially tasty. The restaurant, run by the owner of Real School Wars, is filled with rugby goods. A large TV was showing a rugby match as well. Next time, I would like to try the Chinese okoge. Thank you for the meal.

I tried comparing dumplings at Kyoto Tower. The frozen ones tasted not very good. It tastes similar to Kokurakuen.

Located within walking distance from Kyoto Station, this Chinese restaurant has a down-to-earth atmosphere. As soon as you enter, you can't help but notice the numerous rugby jerseys hanging on the walls. It's clear that the owner is more than just a fan - with signed Japan national team jerseys and most customers at the counter having the physique of rugby forwards. Despite considering myself a casual rugby viewer due to my time at a university in Kyoto, this place is a true gathering spot for rugby enthusiasts. It's best to avoid pretending to know more than you do. I chose this place for a reunion with an old friend and we spent almost 2 hours enjoying several beers, gyoza, char siu, mapo tofu, and more. The food is on the pricier side compared to other local Chinese restaurants. I recommend this spot for rugby fans, those looking for a casual hangout near the station, and of course, for classic dishes like fried rice and ramen.

I went to a Chinese restaurant called "Chukaen" located east of Kyoto Station. The entrance looked like a closed shutter from a distance, but it was actually open with a curtain hanging. Inside, there were rugby shirts and autographed color papers displayed, giving off a rugby-related vibe. There was a large TV monitor showing festival footage. I ordered the Chinese fried rice, which had a satisfying crunch and great flavor. The Ma Po Donburi also came with soup, which was delicious too!

This is a Chinese restaurant called "Seikaen" near Nanajo Station. The restaurant is located in a complex under an apartment building, so it may not be very noticeable, but it has a curtain hanging outside, making it easy to find. There is no parking available. The interior of the restaurant gives a clean impression, with rugby shirts displayed on the walls and rugby matches being broadcast on a large TV, showing a love for rugby. The service is polite and the menu offers a variety of Chinese dishes. Prices range from 500 to 1000 yen for individual dishes, and there are also set menus available from 11:00 to 14:00 at affordable prices. On this day, I ordered the winter limited menu item, Oyster Champon for 900 yen. It was a Champon with a cloudy soup filled with cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots, leeks, and plenty of large oysters from Hiroshima as toppings. The soup had a rich salty flavor, not as light as expected, but well-balanced without being too salty. The noodles were thick and straight, similar to udon, with a moist and delicious texture. The large oysters added a melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness when combined with the vegetables. The size and quality of the oysters at this price point impressed me. I randomly decided to try this restaurant, but it seems they have a lot of attention to detail in their noodles and soup. Even just trying their noodles alone would likely result in a high level of satisfaction. I often visit this area when going to the National Museum, so I would like to stop by again and try a different menu item next time.

This was my first visit to the restaurant. The first thing that surprised me was the display of rugby jerseys on the walls and the large LCD screen that was playing high school rugby videos. The other customers seemed to be regulars, and I think the owner of the restaurant must be a rugby fan. During my high school days, I used to watch rugby matches often, especially when Fushimi Kogyo was at its peak with Ohnogi and Hirao. The interior of the restaurant seemed to have been recently renovated and was quite clean. However, it felt a bit awkward to sit alone at one of the two large tables or three to four counter seats. I ordered the "gomoku soba," which had a very traditional appearance and a strong flavor. If you're a rugby fan, I recommend giving this place a try.

Near the office in Kyoto, there is a Chinese restaurant that has an overwhelming atmosphere, which made me hesitant to enter. However, I gathered my courage and went inside. To my surprise, the restaurant had been featured on a TV show by Tomizmasa. I decided to order Champon and Gyoza. The Champon had lots of vegetables, a thin straight noodle, and a delicious soup that was light and free of chemical seasonings, making it suitable for children as well. The Gyoza was slim but had a homemade feel to it. Although it may be hard to enter due to its location, it is a pretty tasty restaurant.

Visited on December 17, 2011 (Saturday) around 11:55 AM. There was one customer before me, one customer after me, and a woman getting takeout. The kitchen is located on the right side of the entrance, with a counter seating for 6 people in front of it, and two tables for 6 people on the left side of the entrance. There are no tatami seats. According to the restaurant's website, they have been featured on TV for their Chinese burnt soy sauce dish. However, I decided to order the classic ramen for 600 yen and gyoza for 330 yen. Rice dishes start from 600 yen, so if you combine them, it will be over 1000 yen. The food arrived in about 8 minutes. First, the ramen came, followed by the gyoza a minute later. The ramen was a very ordinary soy sauce flavor. The noodles were thin and slightly overcooked. It might be better if they were a bit firmer, but older customers might find this just right. The gyoza was also average in taste, a safe and universally pleasing flavor. This makes it a good choice for those who want a taste that won't get boring. However, the limited variety of set meals might make it difficult for regular lunch visits. Bento boxes like sweet and sour pork are available, but they are priced at 950 yen and up. Extra rice costs 100 yen, so the cost performance is not the best. The man next to me was drinking beer. Since the snack menu is not very extensive, it seems more suited for those who just want to drink without any fancy snacks. Since it's close to my place, I will probably visit again (laughs).

It's been a while since the last time I visited this downtown restaurant. The champon here is similar to Tokyo's tantanmen. They generously add chili oil and vinegar. It's a great way to relax after playing tennis. The only downside is that the noodles are not the wide, curly type found in Tokyo, but rather thin. The gyoza has a crispy skin and is delicious. I prefer to add a lot of vinegar and chili oil, with just a little soy sauce. I also ordered the Chinese rice bowl, which comes with soup. I like to sprinkle pepper and enjoy the generous amount of sauce with a small portion of rice. All of this cost less than 2000 yen, making it feel like a food challenge. Next time, I plan to order a cheap vegetable stir-fry, rice, and gyoza with a similar approach.

The vegetable filling is delicious. Dishes like yakimeshi, chuka don, age-soba, and yakisoba all have a tasty sauce on them, which makes them all delicious. The age-soba is served with hot sauce poured over freshly cooked hot rice. The sound of sizzling and steam rising makes it a joy to start eating. It has a neighborhood Chinese restaurant vibe, perfect for casual dining. The wonton noodles were also delicious.
