I was lured in by a big sign saying "White Shoyu Ramen". You can add toppings to the basic white shoyu ramen, and there are daily specials as well. Today's special was fried rice, so I decided to go for it. The white shoyu ramen had a very light and gentle taste, even though it was made with pork bone broth instead of chicken. There was no pork smell at all, thanks to the white shoyu flavor. Thank you for the delicious meal. #Grateful for life #Kyoto gourmet #Kyoto dinner #Kyoto lunch #Kyoto ramen #Kyoto sightseeing #Kansai ramen #Let's go to Kyoto #Ramen lovers unite #White shoyu ramen #Chashu ramen #Noodlestagram #Ramen lovers #Ramen tour #Connect with people who love photography #Kyoto ramen club #Kyotogram #Ramen patrol #Kyoto ramen tour #Ramen time #Kyoto foodie #Kyoto gourmet tour #Ramen Instagrammer #Ramen club #Noodle adventure #Ramen #Kyoto gourmet trip

It is located a little away from Kamigamo Shrine, towards Demachiyanagi Station. The taste is quite light and may be good for those who prefer mild flavors, but it wasn't to my liking. I also ordered fried rice, which was curry-based and a bit different than expected. It would have been nice to have a menu explanation beforehand. I probably won't be going back.

I used to like firm noodles, but the white soy sauce ramen (800 yen) with light soup and soft thin noodles was really delicious. I want to try the recommended toribushi next time. It makes you thirsty because it's either oily or salty.

Today, I visited a restaurant in Kyoto that I had never been to before. I found a shop along the Kamo River with the words "white soy sauce" written on it. I entered the shop promptly. The shop gave a neat impression with alcohol disinfection, temperature measurement, and so on. My companion ordered the white soy sauce ramen and rice set, while I chose the Showa soy sauce ramen in a large serving for 950 yen. After about 10 minutes, our ramen arrived. The white soy sauce ramen had dark-colored bamboo shoots, naruto, green onions, and chashu toppings. Despite being called white soy sauce, the soup was a light brown color and the noodles were very thin. The Showa soy sauce ramen also had thin noodles in a light brown soy sauce soup, with white onions, naruto, a few thin bamboo shoots, and three slices of chashu. The shop's attention to detail was evident in the choice of toppings for the white soy sauce ramen. The soy sauce ramen I had seemed to have a strong chicken broth flavor, with a significant amount of chicken parts used in the soup. I enjoyed the chashu, but felt that the bamboo shoots were a bit lacking, so I decided that I would like to try adding bamboo shoots as a topping next time. Although I ordered a large serving, I didn't feel completely full, so next time I would like to adjust with additional toppings.

I had been curious about this restaurant for a while. I visited after 11:30 AM, where they checked my temperature and provided hand sanitizer at the entrance before seating me at an empty counter. In addition to the menu items listed, there were also limited-time specials available. I decided to try the White Soy Sauce Ramen (780 yen) as recommended by the staff, who also suggested adding the Chicken Broth (150 yen) for extra flavor. The dish arrived quickly, with a clear soup in a white bowl, topped with chashu, menma, naruto, and the chicken broth. The soup had a light and refreshing taste, but adding the chicken broth enhanced the richness and depth of flavor. The noodles were cooked just right, although I prefer them a bit firmer. The chashu was thinly sliced and well-seasoned, complementing the soup nicely. The staff clarified that the soup was made with pork bones, not chicken as commonly mistaken. The use of white soy sauce gave the ramen a flavor similar to salt ramen, allowing the broth's taste to shine through. As time passed, the richness of the soup increased, making it even more enjoyable towards the end. While some may find the soup lacking in impact, adding the chicken broth as an extra topping completed the dish perfectly. Overall, I felt that including the chicken broth from the start, even at a slightly higher price, would enhance the overall experience.

I visited the restaurant for lunch on Thursday, March 12, 2020. There were no customers inside. I ordered the white soy sauce ramen, but the staff recommended the chicken and vegetable rice bowl, so I went with that. The taste was not particularly rich in flavor. The noodles were thin with a wavy texture and they paired well with the soup, although the soup itself lacked a distinctive feature. I was a bit disappointed as I was expecting something more unique. What surprised me more was that the ramen shop had a kids' play area. It could be a good option for families.

<Introduction> It has been a while since my last visit. Among the many ramen shops in Kyoto, this particular shop stands out for its unique and differentiated light and clear ramen. They have a strong commitment to their soup and noodles, but it seems that their excellence is not fully appreciated, as they continue to struggle. I revisited the shop with a colleague to try out multiple menu items and evaluate them. <White Shoyu Ramen with Chicken Broth Topping> We started with their signature dish, the White Shoyu Ramen, and this time we added the "toribushi" (chicken broth) topping. The chicken broth topping had a significant impact on the already light and clear soup. The gentle and light soup, which may leave some feeling unsatisfied due to its lack of richness, was complemented well by the addition of the chicken broth. It's a ramen that serves as a satisfying finish to a meal, and if there were a shop located in areas like Kiyamachi or Sanjo Keihan, it would likely thrive. However, given that Kyoto is a student city where hearty and cost-effective ramen is preferred, and traditional tonkotsu shoyu ramen is the mainstream, this shop faces a challenge. The addition of chicken broth helps to enhance the umami flavor for those who find the soup too light, making it more appealing to a wider audience. However, the increase in price due to the chicken broth topping may pose a challenge. The specially made noodles sourced from Niigata were a perfect match for the soup, but it's a challenge to convey the cost and effort put into them to customers. Overall, it's a ramen that may be well-received by those who are not fond of traditional ramen. <Curry Ramen> We also tried the Curry Ramen, which is a stark contrast to the ultra-light White Shoyu Ramen. The soup is rich and topped with potato fries. It's not the typical curry ramen flavor but rather a sophisticated, adult-like curry with a hint of Indian curry. It's not spicy but has a restrained sweetness, resembling a mature curry. The potato fries topping was surprisingly delicious, even for someone like me who isn't a fan of potatoes. <Summary> In addition to the two ramen dishes mentioned above, we also tried another bowl which I forgot to note the name of. It was a lard-infused ramen targeted towards the younger generation, contrasting the lightness of the White Shoyu Ramen. Despite the attention to detail in their dishes, the shop faces challenges in terms of location and pricing, making it difficult to attract a wide audience. However, for those who appreciate light and clear ramen, I recommend visiting this shop.

Recently, I have been going to Riverside Cafe all the time, neglecting this place. Due to Riverside Cafe's sudden closures, I decided to have lunch here instead. I ordered the same menu as last time - TKG (raw egg over rice) and white soy sauce ramen. The price has gone up to 930 yen. The ramen still tastes the same, delicious. The TKG had salt in the meringue-like white egg, and soy sauce was not necessary. It was quite filling. Thank you for the meal. Over a year later, I had lunch here again. It's been a while. It's interesting how Tabelog serves as a memo. It was past 1:30, with only 2 customers in front of me. I sat in the corner of the counter. Oh, is the wife running the place alone today? I ordered the white soy sauce ramen (small) and egg over rice set for 900 yen. The small ramen was quite large. The taste was still the same as a year ago, refreshing and well-made by the wife. The TKG looked delicious with the egg already on top. I mixed the soy sauce with the rice and enjoyed it. Ramen and TKG, it might be my first time having this combination. Surprisingly, it was a good match. I ended up quite full. Oh, by the way, the area near the sunken floor entrance has been transformed into a kids' room. Maybe it's for moms with their friends and kids. Thank you for the meal. (From June 2015) Just a one-minute walk from home! Probably the shortest distance to a restaurant where I can eat out. It opened over 10 years ago. Before that, there was a shop serving udon and soba, nothing special, but as a noodle-loving couple, it was convenient to have a place nearby. When that shop closed down, this "Maachi" took its place. I would have preferred a soba shop, but I went to check out the enemy's situation once. Honestly, I wasn't very impressed. Soon after, "Sen no Kaze" opened right next door. However, before long, "Sen no Kaze" relocated. The "Maachi" sign was painted over and the focus seemed to shift to "white soy sauce ramen," with the noodles getting thinner. Gradually, the reviews online started to improve. So, after nearly 10 years, I visited alone after 1 o'clock. There were two customers already. I sat at the counter. A tall young man was running the place alone. Just like old times. They have a variety of rice and side dish sets. You can also add toppings or extra portions. But I went for the white soy sauce ramen for 690 yen. It arrived soon, the white soy sauce ramen. Ah, I see, it has changed for the better since my distant memory. Light broth with menma, green onions, and meat. I used the ladle to take a sip of the soup. It felt slightly lacking at first, but it gave me a good feeling. This is the pattern where it gradually becomes delicious. The noodles were thin. Just the right firmness and amount for me. I quickly finished the soup and noodles. Over the years, after trial and error, I think I've finally found my way here. As I finished eating, a young woman in matching clothes with the owner entered the kitchen holding a baby. Ah, I see. So, they've been working hard in that aspect too. Congratulations.

I have been going to this restaurant occasionally since it opened, so it's been almost 20 years now. Although they have a sign for their white shoyu ramen, they also offer different flavors without pushing the white shoyu ramen too much. From what I remember, they had miso ramen, garlic shoyu ramen, and Niigata shoyu ramen as well. Each one has different noodles and soup, so I have been trying out various options. Personally, I like the white shoyu ramen the best, but the other flavors were also delicious.

The rice bowl is cold. The garlic soy sauce ramen is too strong in flavor, almost like miso. The limited-time secret menu fried rice is hard and not tasty. Due to being short-staffed, customers are left waiting at the entrance for a long time for temperature checks.

This place has been around for quite a while, right!? I pass by this road often, but I never noticed it at all. This time, I discovered it while browsing through Tabelog, so I visited for the first time. I entered a little after 11 am, and there were no other customers, so it was like having the whole place to myself (laughs). The interior has counter seats and one table, and right next to the table is a kids' space... or something? The set meals include minced cutlet and horse mackerel fry, which are not commonly found in regular ramen shops, so it was confusing for someone like me who just wanted to eat fried chicken set meal or fried rice set meal. So, I ordered the white soy sauce ramen with extra toppings. The ramen arrived shortly, and I thought, "Oh, this is how they use chicken broth!?" The color of the soup is somewhere between salt ramen and soy sauce ramen. The ramen itself was delicious, but I didn't really feel the special touch of using white soy sauce, and I thought maybe they didn't need to add the chicken broth... (I specifically ordered the chicken broth as it is rare, so it's not the fault of the staff). The spicy rice was decent, but the outside of the rice bowl was greasy, and my hand holding the bowl was covered in oil. This kind of thing happens occasionally, but maybe they don't realize it because they are working with oily hands...

After visiting the shrine, we decided to have lunch somewhere nearby. Since it was still January 3rd, most of the major restaurants were closed for the New Year. We noticed a ramen shop near the entrance of the shrine handing out flyers, so we decided to give it a try. The shop looked quite ordinary both from the outside and inside. I was intrigued by the limited edition miso ramen on offer. I ordered the miso ramen for 900 yen, while my friend ordered the A set meal which included white soy sauce ramen and fried horse mackerel for around 990 yen. The ramen arrived shortly. The miso ramen had a rich and sweet miso soup, with a thick and garlicky flavor. It's the type of ramen that some people may love while others may not. I personally wished it had a bit more punch to the flavor. On the other hand, the white soy sauce ramen had a light and refreshing soup. I found the freshly fried horse mackerel to be particularly appetizing. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

This might be my first time here! For some reason, the taste seems addictive! The husband and wife (I think) who run the place were very welcoming, and today they were joined by their baby who greeted me. They were a kind couple, and they made the ramen together. It's a cozy little shop where you can feel at ease. The soup was gentle, just like the owners. The noodles were thin and curly, in a clear white soy sauce broth. It wasn't salt ramen, but a delicious shoyu ramen. I definitely want to come back to this place!

My high school friend recommended a ramen shop that he absolutely loves, so I decided to check it out. He visits this place once a week and has been inviting me for a while now. The shop is called Shiro Shoyu, and I remember seeing the sign while driving along Kawabata Street. When we went during the day, there were only a few customers - just me, my friend, and one other group. The menu was limited, so we both ordered their signature Shiro Shoyu ramen. The first thing I noticed was how light the soup was, much lighter than the average ramen in Kyoto. At first, I thought it was too thin, but as I kept eating, I started to appreciate its subtle flavor. My friend mentioned that even though it's light, it's still packed with deliciousness. I personally prefer a stronger flavor in my soup, but the noodles were amazing - perfectly chewy. Despite wanting a bit more punch in the soup, I found myself strangely wanting to go back to this ramen shop again.

"Maachi" is a rare ramen shop located about 5-6 minutes from Demachiyanagi Station. They offer a white soy sauce ramen, one of the few places where you can find it. There is no parking lot, but there is a coin parking lot about a minute away. The interior of the shop is clean and has a sense of cleanliness, with raised tatami seating near the entrance and counter seating towards the back. What I ordered: - White soy sauce ramen (with egg) for 780 yen The cute naruto fish cake on top adds a nice touch. The soup is clear and almost like a salt ramen, likely made with chicken broth for a gentle flavor. The sweetness of the white soy sauce is not overpowering, making it very light. I found myself drinking it quickly. The noodles are thin and curly with a high water content, resembling somen noodles. They were smooth and easy to eat. The thinly sliced chashu pork had little seasoning but was tender and delicious. I wish I had ordered extra meat. In Kyoto, there are many ramen shops that specialize in pork fat soy sauce ramen, so a shop like this with a white soy sauce base is quite rare. Personally, I prefer the white dashi broth at "Ichiichi" for its depth of flavor. If you're looking for a light and gentle white soy sauce ramen, I recommend this place. They also offer side dishes like shrimp dumplings and edamame, making it a good place for drinking as well. I will definitely visit again.

Maachika Lui, Kyoto 2014-06-24 08:30:00 Theme: Kyoto: Ramen About a 7-8 minute walk north along the Kamo River from Demachiyanagi Station, there is a shop that serves white soy sauce ramen. This was my first time hearing about white soy sauce, which is made mainly from wheat with little or no soybeans. I ordered the night-only S set, which included white soy sauce ramen and simmered pork rice bowl. The white soy sauce ramen had thin curly noodles and a clear soup that was light but flavorful. I couldn't resist finishing the soup. The simmered pork rice bowl was juicy with the sauce soaking into the rice. The handmade shrimp dumplings were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, with a nice shrimp aroma. It was a delightful discovery of delicious ramen that was light yet flavorful. Thank you for the meal.
