The taste and price are both friendly at this Shanghai-style Chinese restaurant. Lunch is around 800-900 yen with a wide variety of options. The service is quick and the turnover is fast. The family-run restaurant, likely from China, is located in a back alley with a yellow sign facing Marutamachi Street, a sign that they are open. I have visited this place about 5 times. It's been a long time, so I don't remember the details, but I often order the sweet and sour pork. The black vinegar sweet and sour pork has a sweet and sour flavor with tender pork. They also offer a regular sweet and sour pork option. Even now (March 2023), it's only 850 yen, which is great. Students, hospital and university staff, and some tourists visit this place. The prices are quite wallet-friendly. I've known this place for over 20 years, and I hope they continue to operate for a long time. I would love to visit again.

I feel that the atmosphere is a bit cramped, but you get used to it in a minute. I've been there for lunch 2-3 times, and it's nice that you can order from a different menu for dinner. The sweet and sour pork and stir-fried dishes are delicious. There is no garage, so you have to park in a nearby parking lot, but it's a bit far... it takes about 5 minutes to walk.

Hidden in a cozy spot just south of Maruta-cho on Higashioji-dori Street, you'll find a Chinese restaurant called Shichifukuya. They offer many great value lunch sets, allowing you to easily enjoy authentic flavors. I tried their new jellyfish cold noodles, which were very satisfying. This is a warm and welcoming place!

Tenshinhan: The sauce is savory with seafood flavors and the egg is fluffy. (Delicious)
Gyoza: Neither good nor bad.
Spring Rolls: The shrimp is impressive and tasty. Overall, the prices are reasonable and the food is delicious.

Red Braised Pork Rice Bowl (Pork Belly Stew Bowl) 1,050 yen
Gyoza 550 yen
Draft beer 630 yen
Total: 2,230 yen
The braised pork rice bowl has a unique spice that makes it incredibly delicious. The sauce is generously poured over it but it's not soggy. The pork is tender and flavorful. Although it's not visible in the photo, there's plenty of rice in it. A satisfying dish. The gyoza sauce has a taste that's hard to describe but it's also delicious.

Today, my family and I visited this place. "Heian Shrine" is the neighborhood where I've always wanted to visit. We found the outdoor signboard along a narrow residential street from "Marutamachi Street." The cozy interior without music has a kitchen on the right side, a high counter with 6 seats in front, and a raised tatami seating area on the left side. There are also many tatami seating areas on the 2nd floor. The place is run by a family who seem to be from the hometown. The menu is easy to understand, with numbered items ranging from a la carte to set meals and courses. There doesn't seem to be any extremely high-end dishes using luxury ingredients. We ordered "8 Fluffy Tianjin Rice, 31 Kyoto Meatballs (deep-fried pork shoulder with black vinegar), 53 Mapo Tofu" as individual dishes. The dishes arrived after a while. The Mapo Tofu had a rich flavor with minced meat and silky tofu, finished with a sprinkle of prickly ash that added sweetness rather than spiciness. The Tianjin Rice, topped with a transparent sauce, had a strong saltiness from chicken broth, and although it had no fillings, it was quite tasty. Lastly, the meatballs arrived with a generous amount of rich black vinegar, crispy on the outside and juicy inside, accompanied by crunchy slices of yam. Each dish had a strong and well-balanced flavor profile. There was a wait for the last dish to arrive, and as more customers were being seated on the 2nd floor, we decided to skip ordering more. I would like to try other dishes next time. Overall, the service was good. Thank you for the meal. Personal note: wheelchair accessibility is average, there is a traditional Japanese seating area at the back of the 1st floor, and there is no parking lot available.

After the Kyoto Budo Center Shinichi Chiba Cup ended, I had dinner at a Shanghai home cooking restaurant. I ordered steamed chicken with green onions and soy sauce, xiaolongbao, mapo tofu, sweet and sour pork, crab and egg soup, Shanghai fried noodles, braised pork belly, Tianjin rice, and crispy fried noodles. I quickly placed my order, ate, and then headed home. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I finally got to visit a restaurant that I've been curious about for years. I tried the "Black Vinegar Sweet and Sour Pork Set" for 880 yen (tax included) and it was delicious with its balance of sourness and sweetness. The pork was tender, and the onions, green peppers, and carrots were crunchy. I also had the "Fluffy Tianjin Rice" for 880 yen (tax included), which had a deep and tender seafood broth with just a hint of salt. The egg was really fluffy, and the rice was cooked to a soft texture, making for a perfect combination.

In the narrow streets of Higashioji Marutamachi, you can find the Chinese restaurant "Shichifukuya". Lunch starts from 800 yen, which is a reasonable price amidst the rising costs. They serve a generous amount of tea in a large glass to start, which is much appreciated. The Black Vinegar Sweet and Sour Pork is served on a small plate but packed full of flavor. The pork is delicious and goes well with the rice. The restaurant is always busy during lunchtime, with customers coming in one after another.

Black vinegar sweet and sour pork for ¥800, served in 15 minutes. The restaurant has many elderly customers. The ingredients include pork, onions, carrots, bamboo shoots, green peppers, and more. The strong vinegar flavor is nice. The pork pieces are a good size, not tough, juicy, and tender with some fat. There seems to be no batter on the pork. Very delicious. The onions are sliced along the fibers, retaining a crunchy texture. However, they are cut small and get lost in the sauce, making them hard to eat. Served in a small bowl with chewy rice, lightly flavored egg soup, and pickled vegetables. As the dish is quite filling, the amount of rice is just right. The pork in the sweet and sour pork dish is top-notch. If they offered a dish with just the pork, I would consider coming back.

My daughter and I were wandering around Kyoto and found this restaurant on Tabelog. When we entered around 2 pm, the staff were having their meal. They seemed apologetic but welcomed us in. The menu was extensive. My daughter quickly chose the shrimp chili set meal, while I struggled before ultimately deciding on the Chinese-style omelette set meal, which turned out to be covered in shrimp chili sauce. We both love shrimp chili now! The photos on the menu may look similar, but they are different dishes. The food had a mild flavor that paired well with the white rice, and we finished it all in no time. The staff seemed to be Chinese, and their service was polite. It seems like the restaurant turns into an izakaya at night, so it would be nice to enjoy some delicious Chinese food with drinks.

I came to try the rumored meatball dish~ Stir-fried squid and celery are excellent! The Chinese way of cooking squid is very delicious! Tianjin fried rice is fluffy and pure white! The salt seasoning is just right and very tasty~ The meatballs are luxurious! Deep-fried pork shoulder with black vinegar. Perfect. And it was very affordable! Thank you for the delicious meal~

I tried something different this time. Is this a dish that looks good on social media? Five-flavor mixed vegetable fried rice. It's fluffy and airy with plenty of meringue. Well, sometimes I feel like just eating the fried rice at the bottom. With pickled vegetables and soup, this delicious meal made for a great lunchtime. Thank you for the meal♪

I was curious about #Shichifukuya next to the Chinese Heian Shrine. The dishes and presentation may not be flashy, but the flavors that come from within are excellent. This is true Shanghai home cooking, showcasing the essence of Chinese cuisine. The best dish was the white Tianjin rice, which competes with broth instead of black vinegar for a light yet delicious sauce. It's addictive once you try it. The appetizer, scallion oil white chicken, was amazing with the aroma of scallions and the flavor of the chicken. The bean paste ink fish with pumpkin was a good deal, with a rich bean paste flavor and a mix of squid, shiitake mushrooms, and vegetables. The dumplings were so good that I wanted to take some home, but since they were available frozen, I'll bring a cooler box next time. While Kobe is known for Chinese food in Kansai, there are many delicious Chinese restaurants in Kyoto and Osaka as well. With the rise of new Japanese-style Chinese restaurants, there are still plenty of tasty options to explore. Once I can drink alcohol again, I plan to start with a Chinese food and ladder drinking tour in Kyoto, starting with that top-rated restaurant that recently relocated. Just like delicious food, there are countless choices out there. Thank you for the meal!

I used this restaurant twice. The first time I had sweet and sour pork, and the second time I had black vinegar chicken (pictured). The sweet and sour pork was delicious, with tender pork shoulder pieces and a good amount of bamboo shoots, onions, carrots, and green peppers. The soup was also of high quality. The second time, I tried the black vinegar chicken, which was initially tasty but the unique taste of the black vinegar became a bit overwhelming towards the end. I prefer the regular sweet and sour pork. For dessert, I ordered almond jelly, which was not too sweet and had a nice texture. The menu listed the dessert for 450 yen, but it was only 300 yen during lunchtime, which was a pleasant surprise. When I visited at night and asked about the menu, I was told that the portions were slightly larger than during lunchtime. Since I was dining alone, I declined politely and the staff was understanding and kind. This Chinese restaurant is not pretentious and I would like to visit again.

On April 10, 2021 (Saturday) around 1:00 PM:
- Gomoku soba: A nostalgic and Japanese-style dish with vegetables and seafood broth, topped with pork in a savory sauce. The broth is so delicious you can keep drinking it. This is my grandmother's favorite.
- Harumaki: A spring roll with a soft and flavorful filling of pork and seafood.
- Water dumplings: These dumplings have a chewy skin and a generous amount of shrimp filling.
- Sweet and sour pork: The tangy black vinegar in the sauce is excellent. It's not too sweet, and the aroma is lovely, reminiscent of Shaoxing wine. The portion size of the pork chunks is large, making it a bit difficult to share. The restaurant serves elegant Shanghai-style Chinese cuisine with delicious seafood dishes. The sign is visible from the street, but the restaurant is a bit hidden in a back alley. It's a familiar place for locals, but might be hard to find for tourists.

I felt like eating again and came back. I wanted to have black vinegar pork, but I was also tempted by mapo tofu. Today, I chose mapo tofu!!! This was definitely the right choice. The staff warned me that it was spicy, but it wasn't too spicy, just the right amount of heat. It went well with rice.

I entered a Chinese restaurant near Jingu Marutamachi. Everything looked delicious, but based on the recommendation, I ordered the black vinegar pork set with added ramen. First, a cute-sized ramen came out and it was refreshing and tasty. When I finished eating the ramen, the black vinegar pork arrived. I don't usually eat sweet and sour pork, but this was delicious. The piping hot sweet and sour pork with tangy black vinegar was dangerously good. I want to come back again.

It's been a long time since my wife and I last came here, it feels like years. I'm sure we had the black vinegar sweet and sour pork set meal back then. The sweet and sour pork was tender and delicious, especially when eaten with the rice and sauce. I should have ordered a large portion of rice... The egg drop soup was also tasty. The fried chicken set meal at the table next to us looked good too. Maybe I'll try that next time. This is a casual Chinese restaurant in town. Thank you for the meal!

In Kyoto Kitayama, I bought a lot of baked sweets for a gift at a small wheat shop and headed to Kyoto University of Art and Design Harushunza for a summer vacation performance that both children and adults can enjoy, "Unseen, But Want to Hear" by Mam and Gypsy organized by Takahiro Fujita. Before that, lunch ^_^ Kyoto is experiencing guerrilla heavy rain, so I chose a restaurant with a parking lot or close to a coin parking lot. The shop on the street has flashy signs and is a bit off the main road. There is a counter and a raised seating area. It was just past the lunch peak, so we were seated quickly (*^^*). There are several lunch sets to choose from, and most of them are only 750 yen, which is cheap! Fried rice and water dumplings are also appealing! I decided to try the water dumplings (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵). What's the main dish? I chose the black vinegar sweet and sour pork set. Sweet and sour pork, egg soup, pickled vegetables, and rice for 750 yen. The rice portion is small! I said it three times. Really, a small portion! The sweet and sour pork is quite generous with plenty of black, sticky sauce with a strong black vinegar flavor (#^.^#). There were about 5 large pieces of meat in it. The meat is cooked through but still tender, with a crispy surface and a lot of sauce, so the vegetables and meat remain hot. The crunchy onions are a nice touch. There was leftover sauce, so I thought it would be delicious to pour it over the rice, but I had already finished the rice. The water dumplings are chewy and packed with filling, which is great! Lately, I've been ordering two dishes for lunch, and I'm glad I did this time *\(^o^)/*.

I went for lunch. I love spare ribs, so I was excited to see spare rib rice on the menu and decided to order it. However, the spare ribs were thin and small, only 3 pieces, which was disappointing considering the price. It was more like bean sprout rice. The spare rib noodles my friend ordered also seemed to have a small portion of fried spare ribs. The seasoning was also very light, which is not my preference for Chinese food. The access to the restaurant is good, but I don't feel like coming back for a while. Looking at other customers' photos, it seems like they got around 6 pieces of spare ribs, while we only got 3 each. This was definitely a mistake.
