Wow, today for lunch I went to Karafune Coffee Shop in Ogura, Uji City, which is very close to where I live. The location is 84-1 Kasugamori, Oguracho, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. It's about a 10-minute walk from Kintetsu Ogura Station. Although they have relocated to a different place now, the shop used to be on the north side of the former National Route 24, where Uji Tokushukai Hospital was located. Karafune Coffee Shop is a long-established coffee shop founded in 1972. They are known for their Dutch coffee, which is brewed with water instead of hot water. The shop has its main branch in Sanjo, Kyoto, and has six branches in Kyoto Prefecture, two in Osaka Prefecture, and one in Hyogo Prefecture. The Ogura branch has a spacious parking lot for 36 cars and the entire seating area is non-smoking, with a total of 113 seats.
For lunch, I ordered the Mix Sandwich Set for 590 yen and the Set Matcha Parfait for 300 yen. The Mix Sandwich Set includes a sandwich with ham, tomato, egg, and lettuce, along with onion soup. It was delicious with a homemade feel, and the egg and lettuce were plentiful. It's definitely different from the sour-tasting sandwiches you get at convenience stores. The Set Matcha Parfait is a lunchtime limited dessert option. It's a smaller version of the regular parfait, available for an additional 300 yen. The Matcha Parfait had matcha ice cream, whipped cream with matcha sprinkles, vanilla ice cream, cornflakes with matcha syrup, cherries, and fruits. It was really tasty.
The shop offers a wide variety of parfaits, with about 40 different options. It may seem a bit pricey when ordered as a single item, but getting it as a set makes it a good deal. The staff at Karafune Coffee Shop Ogura were very friendly and provided excellent service. I will definitely visit again.
